QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 04:26 AM) Yeah, it's a shame he couldn't pitch as long as someone like Ted Lyons. But who cares about the past? Anyway, Mark is the active leader for IP at 3283.1 IP, 95th all time. Still really damn good. And Hawkins is a reliever. This is a no brainer. Sign Mark Buehrle. One year and an option at 5.5 mill a year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:43 AM) how about not bunting and getting better hitters Yeah but I'm being realistic here. Ventura DOES call for the bunt a lot. He's not going to change in that regard. If it's 2-2 in the sixth and we have a runner on and nobody out, we probably are bunting. So they must learn how to fricking bunt!! Remember watching Lexi try to move a runner or whomever? It's downright horrible and is costing the White Sox ballgames.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:31 AM) It's quite sad in the modern day, where there are millions of ways to measure receptivity to your product, that this organization has suddenly become so tone deaf and stubborn. If we are gonna keep Robin, Jerry should at least demand somebody like Luis Aparicio (if we need to keep it in house) or Cal Ripken come to spring training and teach the guys how to fricking bunt! I can't remember but Cal was such a solid Hall of Famer I assume he was a good bunter. I mean, baseball is not THAT physically demanding a sport. Have the guys out there an hour early each day, Robin, and make them learn how to bunt. I've seen batting practice. They normally make a couple half-assed attempts at bunting then start trying to pull home runs instead of fricking work on their swings. But seriously Robin calls for the bunt and these stiff cannot bunt!! Make them learn how to bunt with Cal Ripken JR.!! Hire Cal as consultant. Then bring in Tim Raines and pay him some spring training money to teach these bums how to run the basepaths. Again ... make these millionaires spend AN HOUR A DAY running the bases and make them learn how to do it! That's two extra hours a day the millionaires must spend on the field. Tell them, "Maybe next spring we won't have to do this if you guys f***ing lay down bunts when called on and actually run the bases well this season!" That would require raising one's voice and being a leader and I am NOT SURE Robin has that in him. Can he speak above a monitone? So bring in Ripken and Raines next spring. Finally, fire Steverson's ass and bring in another hitting coach (Seitzer? Ripken? anybody) who preaches hitting to all fields. Tell the millionaires that hitting into the shift is selfish and sickening and they need to spray the baseball to beat the shift. Tell LaRoche that his 12-home run season forfeits the right to hit into the shift. Since he cannot pull the ball over the fence, DEMAND he go with the pitch or not play in the final year of his contract. Yes, bench him if he hits into the shift. Finally bring in motivational speaker Tony Robbins to talk about TEAMMORK and WINNING. Or Donald Trump to talk about WINNING. Or Ditka! That.Is.My.Suggestion. You can't deny it all starts in da spring!!!

Has the country (or the world) really gone this far off the rails?

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 03:06 AM) With all of the new security precautions, how could there be a "massacre" at a major sports arena? Glad u asked, Jose. I've thought about this a bit. Here's what happens. Let's say you are in a college basketball crazed city like this town I live in or Lexington, Kentucky or Bloomington, Indiana. Or even Wichita, Kansas or Omaha that sell out all their basketball games. Three morons who want to cause a stir and die over their sick causes, arm themselves with tons of weapons, maybe even a hand grenade. Each have a hand grenade which I would think they could acquire nowadays. So they wait until the second half. Everything's going smoothly and the rent-a-cops (so to speak) on hand are even catching a peek at the game. The 3 crazies who have cased the building out beforehand take their weapons and go charging out on the court, flip the hand grenades into the crowd and start shooting. Or they throw a ton of smokebombs first to get the place all clouded up then start firing. Or a college football game. Even at a lousy program like Kansas you get 35,000 at a game with rent a cop type security. Now there is a chance a real cop (there might be some real cops on hand) might shoot and kill the lunatic gunmen before they do their damage. I think probably not. It probably would be even easier at a sport like women's basketball where the school maybe draws 5,000 fans in a 20,000 seat arena. It still would be a huge tragedy obviously and would be easier to gain admittance before hand with weapons and hand grenades. Or volleyball with 90 year old rent a cops at the entrances and crowds of 3000 or more at some schools like Kansas. I think nutjobs could definitely storm the entrances or have spots they've been in hiding waiting for the right moment to pounce. I want to say I pray (yes I'm religious) this never happens at a sporting arena, but I've often wondered what would happen if the lunatics wait until the second half or latter stages of a game ... then ATTACK! It did happen at the boston marathon which was very sad and very destructive to human life. But I think ISIS or somebody could hit a sporting event and it would change sports forever. -
Say what you want about Limbaugh ... it's not a bad take. He points out a.) the media doesn't want to talk about the fact the gunman targeted Christians. It's uncomfortable for the liberal media who do not wanna go there. And b.) The minute I think I'm for getting rid of all guns I read this and Limbaugh points out this school was a gun-free zone. He says it's exactly what the liberals want. But the bad guy does have guns and there's nobody to stop him cause none of the good guys have guns. It's worth thinking about. If we assume the bad guys are gonna get guns anyway ... don't we have to have some good guys with guns as well? Or else we're just out to get butchered by bad guys ... If you have time, I challenge you to read Limbaugh's take and not just say, "Gawd-dammit it's Limbaugh!!! I'm not reading Limbaugh!!" http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2015/10/...e_zone_shooting

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 10:01 PM) Don't think his arm has two years left. This proves that Jamie Moyer was the last of the guys able to pitch forever, as well as LaTroy Hawkins. I mean Mark has never been on DL, has that smooth motion and is done at 36? Poor pitchers. Their arms just can't take the stress. 36 is not old compared to some of the dudes of the past.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) I am going to be so depressed when Hawk finally hangs up the mic for good. I love him so much and he's a great announcer. Sox games won't be the same without him. I worship him, too, but I don't understand this one. I mean, he's got to be rich beyond belief. Stay in a hotel for half the home games. So you stay 45 nights in a hotel at 200 bucks a night (check Air B and B and you could probably get a really nice condo for 200 a night). That's 9,000 bucks. At Hawk's age, 9000 bucks is obviously like 50 bucks to the normal Joe. Not even an annoyance. You might even be able to write it off on your taxes. The other home games, suck it up and drive home and back as you've done the last many years. It's only April through October. I don't understand how the team would OK him only doing road games. Just seems ridiculous. That said, I'd go for Stone as lead announcer on all home games with somebody like Paciorek or Frank Thomas or AJP or Buehrle joining the team as home games color man. On the road, it's Hawk as play by play guy with Stone; and Farmer/DJ as radio crew.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 01:29 AM) I don't know, the ages and the silly reason, just seems like such a waste of life. It's like I've been saying, in 20 years it will be a whole different America. People are going to be scared to go anywhere. I mean now it's dipping down to kids shooting kids. I always think of the parents (assuming they are good ones). So mom gives birth to a boy one day at the hospital. Can you imagine if you could look into the future and told her, "Your boy will commit murder at the age of 11. He will blow away a neightbor girl with a gun." She'd have told you you were insane. Can you imaging a mom giving birth to a little girl at the hospital one day. If you told her, "Your daughter will be shot and killed at the age of 8 by an 11-year old boy." She'd have said, "How the hell is that going to happen? That's just not possible." Our country is in the toilet and it is only going to get worse. Folks who read my posts know that I'm predicting the end of sports as we know them once one of our big stadiums/arenas has its first massacre. I'd still rather live here than anywhere, but America is a warzone, no doubt about it. Be safe, people, be safe. And like the guy said in another article somewhere, if you are ever in a situation some madman brandishes a gun, by all means fight back with your car keys and charge the gunman. Not a fair battle, though, car keys vs. semiautomatic weapon. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) It was Levine reporting he was retiring. It was horrible reporting. There's no accountability for the media anymore. I'm convinced if somebody tweets something most of the other reporters don't even check. They just quickly chime in "sources confirm buehrle to retire." I mean if his arm feels OK he should definitely keep pitching. He obviously hasn't made up his mind. Part of it might be whether the Sox or Cardinals want him. If the Sox want him, he'd probably come back. Ditto the Cards I believe.
-
This is dumb. If he doesn't want to do the home games, get rid of him. I mean these announcers aren't THAT good to do something bizarre like only road games. I love Hawk but this is too dumb. He's not that valuable. Whoever does the home games is more the "voice of the White Sox" anyway. It's the guy the fans see around, etc.
-
Is there anybody on this board who truly thinks Robin can lead the Sox to a season where we win more than we lose next season? I see no way. There's no reason the sox couldn't have been at least as good as Minnie this year and been in the WC race til the final week. I mean, cmon. Minnesota?? Until the Royals dusted them off in the final series, they had a chance at a WC. Robin needs to retire.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 01:07 AM) Saw this on another web site and it's absolutely perfect. "The White Sox lost 6-0 and collected only three hits in their home opener. The White Sox lost 6-0 and collected only three hits in their home finale. Fitting bookends." Mark Yes. Awesome post. Sox need to dump that hitting coach NOW. Bring in Kevin Seitzer or somebody. Anybody.

QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 02:44 AM) Buehrle's comments after the game made it sound like it's up in the air whether he'll retire. Joked maybe he'll try to start a new 200+ inning streak next year. We'll see. Until he says it in the offseason, you never know. Hell, the Jays may still need him. This is where I hate twitter, etc. It was reported the night before the game he was gonna retire. What a joke. Those sites that lied need to retract. They had NO sources on this as it turned out. Now the Sox CAN sign him!! Trade one of our lefty starters and sign Mark on the cheap for 1-2 years!

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 02:46 AM) Not really bait. I just am amazed at the 20 minutes of fame thing we have in America. Ahmed's is over for now.

200 innings 14 years in a row for Mark; Wilbur five years total of 200 innings. Albeit he threw 300 innings four years in a row. Why is Wibur getting so much love. I like him but ?
-
QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 02:19 AM) Ventura and Fisk are probably starters on the all-time team, so... Also, you really don't think Wood deserves to be in the same conversation as Buehrle? I'd love to read your analysis. Just won/lost records Wood was 164-156; mark is 214-159 to begin with.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 01:40 AM) Those guys gave a lot to the organization, that's why people give a f***. In 20 years do you want people asking who gives a s*** about Buehrle? Pierce and Wood were in the modern era. JFC. Greg, if you had your way we wouldn't retire Mark's number because WHO GIVES A f*** IN A FEW YEARS? AMIRITE? I just get sick of any lists of all time Sox greats and having the list ALWAYS permeated by the old, old timers. I know Wilbur Wood is modern but he is no Mark Buehrle. Cmon. Wilbur Wood isn't in the discussion. I mean if we make a list of all time sox greats, almost all of them will be from the Joe Jackson era or up til 1960. It's not like we have the history of the Yankees. There's room to praise heavily the Buehrles, Baineses, Fisks, Venturas, McDowells, etc.
-
Funny how the news cycle works. Ahmed is such old news. His 20 minutes of fame have expired. Gotta strike when the iron is hot like his family did ... however, now reality sets in. He needs to find a new school and continue on with his life.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) Ed Walsh Chris Sale Wilbur Wood Eddie Cicotte Billy Pierce Red Faber Ted Lyons And then there are the pitchers who "put on a Sox uniform" but didn't spend their prime pitching seasons here. Don't get me wrong, Buehrle was a great pitcher for us, but let's not overrate him. His numbers aren't nearly as good as the posters here make them sound. I'll say this about Sox fans. They never forget those old-time pitchers. Those old time pitchers always are thought of better than guys like Buehrle, etc. Wilbur Wood was not better than Buehrle, BTW. Of course Sale has better stuff. Let's see if he has longevity. As far as Walsh, cicotte, Pierce, Faber, Lyons ... who gives a f***? Those guys are ancient! Let's talk about modern history. Buehrle was GREAT in the modern era. p.s. If that was Buehrle's last time on the mound, how ugly. All the runs were unearned but that grand slam was tattooed and so were some hard hit singles and doubles. I don't know why he wants to quit at 36 unless it's totally health related. If his arm is killing him I guess I can't blame him. Otherwise, we could trade Q for a ton of hitting talent and bring in Mark for 4-6 million one year deal with an option. s***, even if Buehrle's arm is falling off, he'd be better than Zach Duke for gosh sakes.

By anybody's account, even in the era of participation trophies, this was a horrible season. It could be characterized by losing. They were one game over .500 on May 18. That's it for being over .500. Low water mark was 11 under. It was a pathetic season. I'd give the Sox a D as a grade for the season. Only good thing was their performance in extra inning games. My grades ... Abreu: A Sanchez C- (bad hitter) Micah - D. Lexi - C (.250 hitter, bad defense early). Olt - D. Gillaspie F. Saladino B- Melky C- Eaton B Avi C to C- Trayce - A Shuck - C to C- Beckham - D to D- Flowers - D Soto - C- Sale - A Quintana - A Rodon - B to A-minus Danks - B-minus Duke - D Petricka - D Nate - C Robertson - B-minus Shark - C-minus to D LaRoche - D to D-minus. Robin - F Hitting coach: F Pitching coach: C Worst player on team: LaRoche. Best player on the team: Abreu. Best pitcher on team: Sale. Worst pitcher on team: Duke.
-
Fitting ending to a horrible season. I laughed when I saw that was the lineup today. That lineup isn't gonna get more than three hits ... wait, that's how many they got in the game.

Well, it's all over. We are all at war over the nutjobs. Look at this. Four students plotting a mass killing at a high school. Targeting names and ways to kill. Just remember, everytime you step out of your house in America now, you are in a war against the nutjobs that want you dead. Many reasons for the new warzone called America, but it's undeniable. Going to school nowadays in America is VERY dangerous as is living your life. Some kooks with weapons may kill you. Live each day cause somebody wants you off this planet. Very sad state of affairs in weapon-ridden America. Keep glorifying these killers, media. http://news.yahoo.com/four-california-stud...-175242672.html

QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) Look, I love the guy. But this was a nice thought that shouldn't have happened. The way it worked out. Second guessing is easy. He should have had an easy inning. Two errors including the first batter. s*** happens.
