  1. If a Republican did this the media would bury them. Hillary skates unscathed. ... http://www.vox.com/2015/10/1/9433805/hilla...ort-controversy
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) it would great and fitting, if he can be at spring training and pitch the opening day.... for 1 pitch and then leave and retire. i really thought he would sign as a free agent.... I doubt the Sox would mess with something like that on Opening Day next season. Sox are going to have enough to worry about in trying to start winning games. Also Mark's body isn't exactly perfectly sculped. If he does retire and takes the winter off, I'd suspect it might be a mockery to put him in uniform and on the mound. I'd suspect he'll be out of shape big time after the winter.
  3. Brother Rice beat Mt. Carmel. Holy s***. You guys were right. Rice's coach must be good enough after all. I thought he'd never have a good enough defense to compete.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) No, his contract is up. And it just sounds like they aren't putting him on their postseason roster. If he was in pain, I doubt he'd pitch today. I'm just sad. I was gonna pull for the Blue Jays because of Mark. Pretty good story here. His shoulder's ailing. He's done at 36. Weird. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/base...rticle26555885/
  5. This story is so weird. Buehrle has had a decent season and isn't getting lit up every outing. He rules the Royals still. I wonder if we're going to hear he's in so much pain. I mean doesn't he have a few more years on his contract, too? He's not that old, either. That's crazy he must be hurt beyond belief to not pitch in the playoffs.
  6. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 06:31 AM) One of the most overrated players by Sox fans. He was a good pitcher, but not 1st or 2nd ballot HOF like some people around here used to make you think the way they talked about him. Had a cool personality though. I think Toronto could use him in the bullpen for the playoffs as a long reliever. Just in case one of their guys gets in trouble, they won't have to burn their bullpen. What a lousy post. Overrated? What are you expecting from your players? He was amazing and a good example for all the other pitchers.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) 1. Because you're not interested in actually discussing anything about Democrats, you're interested in insulting one of them. You're the guy who won't stop talking about the Cubs in every single White Sox game thread. 2. This week, one of the senior Republicans in the House admitted publicly that the goal of holding so many hearings on Benghazi was not to actually improve security or to discover what happened during the attack, it's to hurt Hillary Clinton's poll numbers. They literally tell you that the point of this for the Republicans is to make Hillary Clinton look bad, and you wonder why no one believes that a bunch of Republicans writing bad things about Hillary Clinton isn't clear evidence that Hillary is terrible. Maybe you should try the Republican thread with that waste, because Republicans saying terrible things about Hillary Clinton seems more likely to be treated as the word of god over there. If you want it questioned and called BS, then feel free to continue posting BS waste of space stupid dumb foolish waste of time New York Post Rupert Murdoch Fox News co articles in here. Because that's what you're posting. But don't be surprised when it gets called a waste of time and an embarrassment to the person posting it. You usually know me pretty well. But mentioning the Cubs a lot? I don't know where you got that one. I think I've said a few times we're really going to be f***ed if the Cubs win it all. The Sox will be totally irrelevant. But other than that ... WTF? As far as being a Republican, I told u all I voted for Obama in the last election, so obviously I'm not a freak Republican. I also blasted the Republican moron governor of Kansas. s***, I see a timely article on Hillary and I post it. The guy tore her a new one, saying she's one of the meanest, rudest people of all time and gave examples. It wasn't even an anonymous source but a real one. I have no axe to grind. Yes I despise her but it's not like I vote all Republican. I might even vote for Bernie, who knows?
  8. Very weird. He has had great success against the Royals, too. Must have a dead arm or amazing amounts of pain.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) Seriously, go to the d*** Republican thread. That's why we have it. You want to rip Democrats, there's a thread for it. You can spout off all the NY Post rumors and tell us the virtues of mass deportation all you want. I didn't know specific comments about Hillary should be in the Republican thread. That confuses me. She's Democrat. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) Saying someone is evil is a little over the top. You can take pretty much every politician apart other than Jimmy Carter, and he was arguably one of the five worst presidents of all-time. Taking a quote from a Secret Secret agent (probably with an axe to grind, maybe he was relieved from her detail or caught up in one of the numerous scandals over the past couple of decades?) isn't going to convince anyone to compare her with Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Hitler and Joseph Goebbels. It's not a popularity contest. For every good trait of Bill Clinton as a politician or intellectually, there are just as many "evil/manipulative/lawyerly" ones that always worked to his detriment and will forever stain his two terms in office. Let's face it, the same characteristics in men...women always get described as "b----es." How come nobody ever believes articles where people say Hillary is one lousy person? Evil is the wrong word but excessively rude? Amazingly rude? Disrespectful? You rarely hear about people being this nasty who are serving the public.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) It's not all on Robin but we can all agree he has no business being the manager. Stop defending him DA. The weird thing is you never hear a word from anybody but us and the Sox announcers about how bad the Sox are in fundamentals and baserunning. It's pretty obvious Hawk and Stone think Robin blows cause if they thought he could lead a team they'd be telling us that over and over. Instead? Silence.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 04:54 AM) I'm just numb. I got down to the newsroom after class, saw this on our TVs and then just got back to work. Nothing will change. We'll mourn. We'll talk about the heroic dead. We'll ask why the media is saying the killer's name. We'll say it was mental illness. We'll say he'd do it with anything if he couldn't get a gun. And then we'll feel better. We'll forget the heroic dead. We'll forget the killer's name. We won't do anything for mental health in this country. We'll ignore that this keeps happening, Exactly. And as this escalates ... wow. In 20 years you won't recognize America. It's really going to be a mean, scary place where people are scared to death to go anywhere. Wait til we get an incident at a sports event, which is inevitable. Wow that will change sports too. Second half of a sports event a couple hours into the game when some nutjobs storm a 20,000 seat hoops arena or 50,000 stadium? Wow. Lots more will be killed but hopefully the rent a cops are armed and kill the nutjobs before they do too much damage.
  12. I would feel better if Robin would admit he did a s*** job this year. He was proclaiming playoffs before the season. We're 10 under .500 for goshsakes.
  13. You can't trade him cause the goal is to win. We have a pitching staff, aside from some awful relievers, is playoff caliber. Our ONLY hope is to keep all these pitchers except for the trash relievers and work on the everyday lineup.
  14. Guys I don't make up this stuff. Go ahead and blame the messenger, this investigative reporter obviously made all this stuff up. I like the last quote: A person with Hillary's temperament should not even be hired by a McDonalds much less the presidency. She is evil, but go ahead and blame the messenger. http://nypost.com/2015/10/02/secret-servic...e-to-work-with/
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) Greg - I believe everything your saying and cop might have been that way, but you broke the law and deserved the ticket. Problem with rolling is the times that you drive on autopilot you very well might roll and not realize someone else is there. Could he have been nice and let you off, sure, but doesn't make him a dick because he didn't. That said, he could very well have been a jerk to you. You also have to remember that anytime an officer pulls someone over, it could be the last person they pull over. Never know who might pull something, etc...always on their guard. Makes sense. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 08:24 PM) Rule of thumb, dont do anything wrong on the roads in oak park. Why? Are they especially stringent?
  16. Congrats. Chris Sale, you are a superstar and thank you for not demaning a trade from this sorry team! Thank u!
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 02:34 AM) Next year should be do or die for Ventura and Hahn. They clearly want to go for it again, so there needs to be good transactions and Ventura needs them ready out of the gate. Good point, fathom. My question is ... are they going to extend Robin or is it the last year on his contract? The players matter much more than the manager and we have lousy players, sure, but like I said before the White Sox style of play reflects VERY BADLY on Robin: Horrible bunting (and yet he calls for bunts like all managers do when they need to move a runner in certain situations), gawd-awful defense, just horrendous; piss poor baserunning; amazingly bad situational hitting (guys won't go the other way when we NEED a hit, even with the shift on, granted this is not just a White sox problem). Basically the only thing I think Robin does well is manage the pitching staff (the best manager in baseball history couldn't do better maneuvering bullpen pieces since most of our bullpen pitchers have been abysmal the past few years) and manage well in extra inning games (except the 2 every year we run out of pitchers). Overall I'd give him a D-plus as a manager. You guys willing to grade him??
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 02:07 AM) Ya know, I have Ventura fatigue. No more. Sorry. Jerry obviously won't fire him. Loyalty baby.
  19. Whatever ... I hope Robin changes a bit. Obviously talent is the biggest thing for a manager. But his teams simply cannot lay down a bunt (reflects poorly on him), they do not play defense, they cannot move runners, they cannot score runners. He does a decent enough job with pitchers (maybe Coop takes care of that). Now maybe it's 100 percent on his players. Who knows? But Robin's teams APPEAR very undisciplined, very fundamentally unsound. He deserves a D for this season, C- at best but I'd give him a D.
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) Disagree, my line was called for and delivered. Trust me, in no definition of dick was I being a dick. The definition of polite was me. I pulled over instantly, not even 50 yards from the stop sign. I did everything he asked. I never once spoke in anything but a respectful tone, albeit a bit too chatty. I f***ing apologized to him twice personally for barely rolling a stop sign to which he had no response. I don't really understand why your line was called for and delivered. Trust me, this cop had dickish tendencies. I did not in this case. You won't even acknowledge the cop might have had some dick in him. I would ask all board members: Considering it was 1 a.m., he knew I wasn't drunk, it was a fricking side street, I did stop yet admittedly not completely and rolled through the stop sign, cmon the guy was a bastard for writing me up and costing me 140 bucks wouldn't you say?? I mean you have to be an asshole by definition to give somebody a ticket for a stop sign violation unless you are ordered to raise money on the last day of the month (although it was after midnight technically on the 1st).
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 12:22 AM) So banning guns would be worse because....people would just substitute knives and bombs? I'm almost to the point of agreeing with Greg again, that if the media didn't report for days and days about the shooters and their psychological issues, some of the motivation consequently be would be removed. One of the first social media quotes to come out was about the shooter's feelings of insignificance. "This is the only time I'll be in the news." According to the Oregonian newspaper, the shooter reportedly "asked people to state their religion" before opening fire. Of course, going back at least to John Hinckley almost 35 years ago...you have that same driving force (desire for fame) present in many of these shootings. So now we're getting the predictable stories about the killer and his mother, etc. The killer is glorified forever. The rinse, repeat media cycle will get around to writing about those who were killed (maybe). I guess the more of these incidents we have, the lazier the media will get in reporting about who died. I mean, in reality, the masses don't really care about who the 9 are who died. Those have been made secondary stories -- "ah isn't it a shame that the 19 year old who was shot in the face five times volunteered every summer for the peace corps" Nobody cares. But the media makes us hear about the killer, all his beliefs/motivations, blah blah. f*** the killer. f*** him!!! I say if it's obvious that it's not a deal where others were involved or he reprents ISIS or somebody ... STOP THE COVERAGE OF THE KILLER!!! These people want to be famous and are going to continue plotting these murders. Right now you damn well know THOUSANDS of cowards in the US of A are thinking about how they are going to make a splash and go out with a bang. Just pray you aren't the poor helpless unarmed sap sitting in church when some crazy busts through the doors with a machine gun. Or at a pep rally at a high school and somebody comes blazing in firing away. Or at a library or in an adult education class when some f***tard comes in and starts shooting. Stop the madness and quit telling us about these assholes, Mr. and Ms. MEDIA!!!! Take away the fame aspect of this!!!
  22. Not trying to start a fight, just defend myself and Ozzie. So the Sox fire Parent with a weekend to go of meaningless games. I guess Hahn quit on the team by removing somebody before all games were played. Uh ... this is meaningless just like Ozzie leaving with a week to go meant NOTHING. Both teams sucked beyond belief and it mattered not. I don't know why Robin would want to stay BTW. This team is going to suck again next year. Why does he want to manage bad hitting and defensive players.
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) And not for nothing, but while you're busy trying to lay blame on the officer for being a dick...you're the one that broke the law knowing the possible consequences. Is he a dick for not letting you off, or are you the dick for breaking the law and then blaming him for being a dick? I said I was guilty. Your line is uncalled for. I said I broke the law. The reason I said he "seemed" like a dick is uh, because he did seem like a dick. He mentioned twice my court date like I was going to go to court over this. He said I could mail it in or pay online. I said surprisedly, "I can pay online?" He got prickish and said, "what's that?" while an amazingly bright light was still lighting up my car and my face. I got the sense he was hoping he had a shot at me slurring my words being drunk even tho I don't drink. I just sensed he might be a prick. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) I think the quote of not concentrating got you the ticket. They could have and probably should have given you a warning especially if you didn't totally blow of the sign. Rolling stop at least is better than flying through. I tend to agree. The more I think about it, me being chatty instead of letting him be a powerful big shot and control the conversation nailed me. I did think of something later I wish I'd done. After I signed the ticket, I wish I'd said very politely. "Hey I always have had this question. Can I ask you a question?" He'd think I was going to be a prick then. I'd say, "I've always wanted to go along with an officer during his night shift. Do you know if our police department would allow me to go with you or some other officer? How would I go about setting that up?" What would he say? "f*** if I know, man." Or would he be helpful. At any rate I think it'd be an effective come back after getting a ticket for f***ing rolling a stop sign. I mean the more I think of it. I've had no tickets in a year or two at all! I have never broken the law except for speeding years ago. And this prick nails me at 1 a.m for rolling a stop sign?? On a side street? No traffic in sight?? My god. He hit the jackpot making 140 dollars for the city which i've already mailed in.
  24. Obama gave a good speech today following the shootings. For those who say he's not religious, BTW, catch the final 30 seconds of his speech. It's all about God. Obama makes a great line early in the speech. He says many groups will say this proves we need more guns. He said, "Does anybody really believe that??" Good job telling it like it is. Aren't even responsible gun owners sickened by all this? Like Obama said, other countries have mental illness and they don't have these shooting problems. Our country is a cesspool with Americans getting off on killing Americans with enough ammo to kill hundreds. Sick and sad.
  25. So according to CNN the gunman makes the students stand up and asks 'em if they are Christian. So if you they said yes he says 'good you are going to see God in a couple seconds' and blows you away. I mean what horror. I don't know what he did to the people who said they were not Christian. p.s. I don't care what you who say crime is down say. Our country is a f***ing warzone and nobody is gonna tell me otherwise. At any moment you or your loved ones can be gunned down. And you will have no chance to fight back. Now you have to be asked if to renounce your faith or get shot in the face. Geez what a life.
