  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) You have clearly demonstrated that you feel wronged, and it seems to me like if we would have let you off you would probably do it again. Now, I bet you stop and wait 3 seconds at every stop sign you go through Yeah but I said I was guilty. I think he shoulda let me off, though. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) Well, with the USA being as "unsafe as it is today", that cop was just doing his part in making it safer. IN THESE PARTS WE CALL THAT BEING OWNED. Yeah but once he saw I had no gun and hadn't been drinking he shoulda let me off with a stern warning. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) Sorry Greg, no pity. As I said, I've had numerous tickets such as speeding, wreckless driving and was caught drag racing twice on the street. I never argued with the cop because I knew I was in the wrong, just accepted that it was my fault. I know rolling stops are kind of petty but it can lead to developing a bad habit to where you roll through all stop signs and that's a bad thing in residential areas at any time of day or night. Another thing is and I mean this with no disrespect, its pretty bad that you rolled through the stop sign in front of the cop. It tells the cop you weren't paying attention to your surroundings. Just stop at the signs my man. I didn't argue either. Didn't help. I was too polite.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 04:56 AM) I'm going to come out and say it, but if you claim to be a true Sox fan and are cheering for the Cubs this postseason then you are a f***ing idiot. Our beloved franchise has always been the ugly step-child of the Chicago sports scene and a Cubs World Series victory would make us even more irreverent. Go ahead and come up with some lame excuse on why it's ok to cheer for them, but you are literally rooting against the well-being of your own franchise. There is no good that comes to the Sox from the Cubs winning the World Series, none whatsoever. It's absolutely disgusting how many "Sox fans" I know are jumping on this bandwagon and it's even worse how many members on this site, a forum that is home to some of the most die-hard Sox fans in the world, are pro-Cubs right now. I just don't care. I don't want them to win but if they do, big deal. I will say a lot of Sox fans have to be disgusted about what's happened since 05 to our team. But if the Cubs have to win it all, fine, although it's always funny when they blow it. Like if they get shut out three games in a row here would be funny. p.s. I'm one of those guys who deserves credit lol for picking the Sox over the Cubs as a kid. We lived on the southside and my grandfather loved the Cubs; my dad loved the Sox. My grandfather would take me to a lot of Cubs games in the shrine I never thought was even that great, Wrigley. My dad took me to a batch of Sox games. I enjoyed watching baseball and actually rooted for both and was amused watching my relatives argue about the teams. I became a teen and embraced my Sox side roots and was a Sox only fan and have been a Sox only fan. 05 was great.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) Because we all know he should ignore people he sees rolling through stop signs, because they might NOT be a DUI guy. Surprisingly you dont seem to be owning up to your f*** up greg. And I say that sincerely, I wouldnt think you would be one to blame everyone but yourself when you screw up in front of a police officer and you get busted for it. I said right away in the thread I was guilty. I'm just saying any reasonable cop woulda let me off.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 11:24 AM) You could try that defense in court, but it would work about as well as arguing that going the speed limit or slightly less is dangerous when there are large wolf packs of cars or trucks flying by at 75-85 mph. And the idea of getting out of violations based on recent charitable donations...I don't even know where to start. The police would srgue if you don't have enough socked away to pay a ticket you probably shouldn't: 1) drive or ) give so much money away. Try it though next time u are in USA. If you are at a four-way stop and there actually is some traffic, watch in your rearview how fast the car behind you approaches figuring you'll roll through. Then when you stop and count 3 seconds the guy/gal likely will be right on your bumper. And the people at the other stop signs are pissed at how slow you are progressing. That's why I just say it's so common for people to stop a little and proceed like I did at 1 a.m. The cop that got me did a fine job, he raised 140 bucks for the city coffers while probably really stopping me cause he thought he might get a DUI guy.
  5. Ho hum. Just chalk it up to another day in USA. Bam, you're dead. Just remember to always watch your back. You may be shot on purpose or accidentally. Read about those Chicago shootings. Some people just walking along and felt a pain. Hey don't they know they shouldn't be taking walks in America nowadays?
  6. QUOTE (farmteam @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 04:03 AM) By definition, you should not expect to catch a break. How can anybody be allowed to drive then? I mean I've been watching people the last week since I stop fully and pause a full three seconds at stop signs now. People are on my tail and my bumper and you can sense their anger at me for stopping so long. Also, when it's a multi stop sign intersection, the other people look at me angrily cause I stop and count to three. I'd venture to say many many people 'roll' stop signs by definition and it actually can prevent a bumper to bumper accident cause people are rite on my bumper and very surprised at my stopping completely for 3 seconds.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) Did you not live in Chicago in the 90s? There are so many deaths in Chicago on a given weekend this year and last it's ridiculous.
  8. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) Greg, just pay the damn ticket and quit trying to look for a loop hole out of it. Incidents like this are why this country has really gone off the rails. It's like I've been saying, in 20 years it will be a whole different America. People are going to be scared to go anywhere. I mean now it's dipping down to guys running through stop signs thinking they're above the law. I always think of the parents (assuming they are good ones). So mom gives birth to a boy one day at the hospital. Can you imagine if you could look into the future and told her, you're boy will one day run a stop sign. She'd have told you you were insane. It was 1 a.m. It was a side street. He learned I wasn't drinking. I didn't blow through it like a racecar driver. I pulled over w/in 2 seconds of seeing him come after me. I was polite, albeit chatty. Can I not expect a break when I had no tickets thru the whole year?? Not to pat myself on the back, but I've been donating a lot of money lately - our church expansion project, United Way, regular church Sunday donations, giving to some other projects ... I could use the 140 bucks. I am guilty though, but ??? QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) you can call the police and request video related to the incident if any exists. It's an open records request. I used to prosecute traffic violations and saw tons of video. Not once was there a wrong decision on a minor traffic violation. Everyone talks a big game about how the cops are just out to make money or profiled them or whatever. I made it my policy to dismiss questionable tickets. Traffic violations were never wrong where the cop witnessed the violation. And yeah, unless the cop has a history of lying in court (rare but happens) you will lose. You should also know that video usually only comes on if 1. The officer turns it on, or 2. The overhead lights are turned on. Sometimes they don't catch the violation if the cop forgets to turn the camera on while he's parked. Thank u very much for the advice and explanatory material here. I appreciate it. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 01:14 AM) I don't see the problem, stop means stop. No offense meant Greg. That's coming from someone that has literally had enough tickets in his lifetime to wallpaper a mansion. True, but cmon. 1 a.m.? Not drunk? Side street? No pity for Greg?
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) You think he pays for his hotel room? If he gets a nice suite comped, even more the reason to enjoy downtown Chicago and do 30 to 50 home games. Why not? He's gotta be home all that time?
  10. The White Sox are good at ... being loyal to players and managers and front office people. The Sox are bad at ... having a sense of urgency about anything. I really truly don't think we're gonna ever get over .500 again for an extended period until we clean house. It's always "early." No need to panic. It's too early. Then every year we hit September and oh, yes, it's too late. September is a boring methodical funeral for the rest of the season. Don't worry, folks, it's early they said after going 0-4 to open the season. Oops. Give me some urgency!! We finish 10 under .500 and I sense Jerry and everybody are OK with this. Hey folks, the season sucked!
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:09 AM) Oh the irony You talk of rational people, and try to tell us that Rush Limbaugh is one of these rational people You guys always want to maim the messenger so to speak. Sometimes Limbaugh and the NY columnists say things that are true you know?
  12. Astros and Cubs are the darlings right now. Royals Game One is crucial. Can the young emotional pitcher Ventura get the job done Thursday night with an afternoon game Friday coming so soon after Thursday's result whatever it may be? If Royals lose Game One, they done.
  13. Cubs are officially the darlings of Chicago again. You get in the playoffs and win the WC game, now they have a real series coming up. It's a young team with key pieces coming back. No matter what happens they'll be so excited for baseball next April while we Sox fans are just clamoring to finally get over .500 during a season again. Well, the White Sox now truly have to compete against the Cubs which truthfully is probably good for us fans. When the Cubs totally sucked and the sox were great, the Sox sat on their hands and let the franchise crumble instead of building on 05 which is such a long time ago. Good luck Hahn, Jerry, marketing, everybody trying to compete with Cub mania now!! On the field, Good win for the Scrubs. That was a nice play by Bryant at third to turn the DP in the sixth or seventh. Kept the 4-0 lead safe and sound.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) greg laughs at all of your "facts" and "numbers". He knows the score. Guys, most rational people agree with me. America is not safe. America is less safe than 20 years ago. Cmon. Do you guys live in a bubble?
  15. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 08:45 PM) Is it possible for you to enter a single conversation without bringing the Royals up? It's clear that you're obsessed with them. You could have said the Tigers, Twins or Indians but of course you chose the Royals. I'm sure there is a good Royals message board you can go to if you want to talk about your favorite team all the time. Whatever. The Royals happen to own the White Sox and I despise losing 80 percent of our games to them every year. Of course you make a good point. Minnie, Cleveland and Detroit own the White Sox as well.
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) I'll enter here to chime in with the fact that the world is a safer place today than it's ever been before, DESPITE the massive increase in population. The world maybe. America? Safer than before? Cmon. You can make any stats fit any argument. America is a dangerous land.
  17. "I don't recall that." "I don't remember doing that." "I must have had a reason to do that." Politicians are good at blowing stuff off. What a joke this guy is for screwing Jersey people and wanting his home state saved.
  18. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:24 AM) My last ticket I was going 35 in a 25, cop pulled me over and said he and his partner saw me talking on my cellphone which is why I was pulled over. I tell him my car has blue tooth and what you guys saw was me eating a bagel, he decided to give me a speeding ticket instead. Do the cops tape everything now? Like the bagel thing. I was wondering what would happen if a cop wanted to raise money and SAID you went through a stop sign when you stopped completely. If you go to court, they just believe the cop and you are out the cash? Or is it taped and they see if you rolled the stop or not?
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 07:55 PM) Like Keppinger, right? I said good free agent contracts. The big deals.
  20. QUOTE (Coach @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) If I were Ventura, I would see what happens to him in Spring Training. If it's the same, I would say eat the salary and get someone else. Shuck only struck out 11% of the time, so why not let him DH? They are both lefties. Why is this so hard for Ventura to figure out? Teams don't eat salaries. When a guy is making that much, they play them. It's another of baseball's unwritten rules. No matter how bad you are, if you have one of those good free agent contracts you play. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) This is like the Greg/Adam Dunn...why isn't he benched? debates of the past. Because the White Sox aren't in the habit of eating any contract of more than $5 million completely...until they've first thoroughly exhausted every avenue in an attempt to extract any remaining value. Exactly. Robin knows LaRoche blows. He can't do anything about it. You play him til mercifully the contract runs out or he retires.
  21. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) $5.5 million is a good bench or decent middle relief pitcher these days not a starter who puts up a sub 4.00 ERA with around 200 innings. According to Fangraphs Buehrle was worth roughly $16.8 million this year. If Buehrle plays another season, which I don't expect, somebody will be willing to give him a 1 year, $10-$12 million contract. If the Sox could move Danks without eating salary I would love to have Buehrle back but you're not going to get him for $5.5 million. Yes, but the perception now is the new Buehrle is done. He's not even on the playoff roster which is a total slap in the face. I hope the Royals don't give him that deal. I'd hate to see him mow down our lousy lineup 4-6 times a year.
  22. QUOTE (juddling @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 11:25 PM) I remember driving home from Bloomingdale (on 355) on a Friday night during rush hour. I was going faster than some.....slower than others though I still managed to be the one to get pulled over. The cop approached my car on the passenger side....put his elbows on my window and did the usual "Do you know why I pulled you over?" routine. I don't remember what i said to that but he said i was speeding and again the typical question "Why were you speeding?" In my head i was saying "because i'm on a f***ing expressway in f***ing Chicago and i don't want to get run over" but instead i went with something along the lines of "It's Friday...and just trying to get home like everyone else to start my weekend" OF COURSE, i get the smartass reply of "Well...It's Friday night for me too..and I'd like to go home to start my weekend" Obviously...there is nothing I can say to this that doesn't get me in deeper trouble so i say nothing. He then leans in a little closer (again...from my passenger side) and says my eyes are all red and asks why. I say 'Really?" and i look in my rear view and my eyes are as white as snow. "Sir...i know the light in here isn't great but my eyes are fine." He stares at me a long time and finally asks for my info and goes back to write me my speeding ticket. He came back with a ticket and of course the obligatory "You should consider yourself lucky this is the only ticket I'm writing you" I never did figure out what he was thinking he could write me another ticket for....i said "thank you officer and have a nice weekend" f***er still followed me for the next 10 miles....... Damn. That cop was a spooky bastard.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) And after his agent stopped laughing, what would you say then? He's worth more than that at his age?
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:55 AM) 22nd in sac bunts this year, and 6 of those were the light hitting Sanchez. They were dead last in 2014 under Ventura. Find something else to dislike about Ventura. When it's time for a bunt and we fail, it makes me mad. You can't deny this has happened a lot in his era.
  25. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 04:28 AM) I love Wimpy on the broadcasts. He brings so much life to the games. He would make the home games listenable and fun. I'll just mute the away games. I want Wimperoo! Bring back Wimpy!
