  1. I don't give a frick what any of you guys say when you blast me for 'overreacting.' Every 2 weeks now it seems we get one of these. The TV thing where the 2 got killed was the last one I believe; Out of the news cycle finally now this one. this one is really really bad. Ten killed? Let's hear all about the gunman, his life story, rinse and repeat. WTF is wrong with the United States of America?? If it's simply mental illness, well we are in trouble trouble trouble. Cause we're just now starting to create a generation of mentally ill people with all the drugs people have been on since childhood. Seriously, there are probably thousands of people considering or planning the same type of attacks. Is that an overreaction? Thousands? I'd say thousands are considering going out in style with multi mass murder attacks right now! Let's face it. No matter your position on gun control, it's pretty damn easy for these nutjobs to get their hands on the weapons they'll need to carry out their attacks. I wonder who will be the first to get a hand grenade somehow. What creeps these gunmen are. I mean what cowards. They go into places like the church and the classroom and start firing. And nobody else can fight back cause they are not armed. Asshole murderers! I'm sick of this; so sick of this. And the next one will probably be coming two weeks from now. I pray all of you and yours are safe. I leave you with this paragraph from cnn: "One law enforcement official said the shooter had body armor with him and was heavily armed, with a large amount of ammunition -- enough for a prolonged gunfight. Authorities recovered three pistols and one rifle at the scene, one official said." Good Lord. WTF. What a fricking coward. He gets the guns and ammo; the average joe who was in the wrong place at the wrong time has nothing. All these murders!!!
  2. We stink. I think it's time to build a new stadium like the Braves do every 20 years or so. Cmon. Build it downtown, make it a palace and make a commitment to excellence for the next 50 years.
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 02:48 AM) Congrats Jose 30/100 first 2 years. What a great player! And he hasn't complained about playing for a non-contender which is cool I guess. He's excellent player.
  4. Hey, good to see that series in Kauffman was a fluke. We lost 2 of 3 to KC again at home. My boy, Johnny Danks, is out of gas. He shoulda been shut down all of September IMO. This being a s***ty team sucks. I don't see much chance of improvement next year. Only Detroit seems as wretched as us on paper.
  5. So it's 12:45 a.m., Oct 1, and I'm driving home after leaving the office and getting some snacks. Yes, I roll a stop sign on a side street, not a major road. Cop pulls me over and I immediately signal and pull over. He comes up, gets my license and insurance. He tells me he stopped me for rolling the stop sign. Obviously that time of night they are looking for drunks. I haven't had a drink even in a couple years believe it or not. He comes back and says, 'i am going to ticket you for the stop sign violation.' I told him it was late and I guess I wasn't concentrating and said sorry twice that I wasn't paying attention. I still get the ticket despite the fact nobody's on the road at that time on this side street. My question to you is ... was this a monetary decision by the cop? End of the month, beginning of new month? Pressure to make some $$$ for the city? Or b.) did I get the ticket for being too chatty. I mean I was very nice, but I offered up to him what I was doing. I said I had left work and went and got a snack on the way home and wasn't paying attention. I didn't give him the opportunity if he wanted to ask me a question and have me answer apologetically. I merely was apologetic to begin with so I may have blown it by not letting him take control and try to get me to beg. Is it the old, "f*** you nice guy. I'm a f***ing cop and I'm ringing you up." Or was it b.) listen bub, we need money in this city and by rolling that stop sign you just gave us a cool hundred bucks, chump!" Which is it. I mean, cmon. that time of night. Side street? No cars in the area? Yes I f***ed up big time in not coming to a complete stop. But geez. ... Tough to stomach. If I am a law breaking person, and deserve to get slapped by that cop, tell me. I can take it. I had no previous tickets this past year; I don't know if that shows up or not when he calls in my information. p.s. the cop did seem like potentially a dick. He told me they were having problems at that intersection. I really truly felt like saying but obviously didn't: "At 1 a.m.? With no traffic at all around? COngratulations on raising 140 bucks for your department, officer. You got me. I rolled the sign; no doubt I did but nooo you couldn't let me off." I'm telling you I was 100 percent nice not even a hint of my being a dick. Like I said I was a bit overly friendly however. I was hoping he'd ask me if I had a drink but he didn't even go there. --humor me and tell me when u got your last ticket for a driving violation or parking.
  6. Hawk convinced me a year ago Micah was gonna be a superstar. Now he's just a blah prospect. What happened? I was hoping he was the next Ray Durham.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 04:30 AM) From throwing way too many cutters... Hahn set the MLB record for worst trade deadline performance. Not dealing Shark. Keeping Robertson pointlessly when that money should have been invested into a starting position player. Not getting anything for Albers, Putnam, Petricka, Duke, etc. I'll never understand not dealing Shark a month BEFORE the deadline. It was obvious our team sucked and you can't convince me we couldn't have gotten some nice pieces.
  8. Plays like that save games. He has to replace Melky next year in left. Just get rid of Melkster or Garcia.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) Quintana deserves a nice round of applause tonight. It's not his fault his team sucks. Too bad there will again only be about 8000 fans there and 6000 of em Royals fans.
  10. I kind of like this beating of the Royals. I don't know what it means but that's four in a row. Earlier this year that's an automatic loss. Moustakas would have smashed a hit off the wall with KC down 3-2 and Duke pitching in the eighth with two runners on. KC woulda just devoured us late. Now ... we win again over those assholes. Nine under .500 is such an embarrassment though. This offseason will mean a lot for the Sox franchise. If the Cubs somehow make the World Series or become last year's Royals, the darlings of the postseason, good luck to the Sox getting any coverage at all until the cub dynasty is over.
  11. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) This will be an interesting one.....If it gets to court it should take about 6 seconds to dismiss...But we are talking about the leftist paradise of Cally. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/calif-kin...SAu3?li=AAa0dzB It's a private institution. Their handbook says no homosexuality.Shouldn't they find a more welcoming kindergarten? Maybe they'll win the lawsuit of all lawsuits that changes the rules for good.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) Have you see his tax plan? Tax cuts for the poor, also tax cuts (big ones) for the wealthy. And his promised plan for how to cover the costs doesn't even come close to actually covering it, so really what he is suggesting is just "tax cuts for everyone!" without doing anything to cut spending or add revenue, so he just wants to run up giant deficits. That's not even touching on the fact that he spent all this time saying "hedge fund managers will hate me", then handed them a giant tax cut. I'm not a Trump fanatic but I can say he and the Surgeon are the only 2 who excite me at all.
  13. Somehow the Sox took three straight at Kauffman vs. KC the last time out. Would be crazy if Sox swept 'em again. KC has no momentum rightnow for the playoffs. Team is embedded in its first real funk. Sox have cured them and other central teams before.
  14. That headline is wrong. The Sox have nowhere to go but up? How many years did Baltimore, Pitt, Royals stink? We could stink easily for 10-15 years. Cause team has a ton of holes.
  15. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Pay top $$ for stars, not replaceable bums. Laroche? GMAFB. A decent organization signs guys like that off the street! Horrible signing. I'm just waiting for the Sox to make a move that uh, works! (Besides drafting good pitchers and signing good foreign players of course). Since the Sox seem to only get right the signing of foreign players, I'd continue doing that. LaRoche and Dunn were disasters. Melky is an average bat, not really of value at all since he doesn't hit HRs anymore.
  16. The Sox could be the darlings of the city if they built a downtown ballpark. Is there any property available? Isn't Grant Park big enough?? Anywhere else? Build a true palace with Cuban as the owner!
  17. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 04:47 AM) They have to replace Shark. In a year they have to replace Danks. Why would they also choose to trade Quintana. They would need 3 new starting pitchers in 2 seasons and are any of them going to be as good as Quintana? Nope. "We're going to need 2 new starting pitchers. Let's trade away Quintana too and replace with 3 pitchers who are all worse than Quintana." Does that make any sense or seem like a reasonably likely thing to happen? Great post! True we're a last place team now and one of the worst in the AL, but if the goal is to actually make the playoffs we have to keep the strong pitching staff and ask our GM to figure ways to make the everyday lineup better. Look, Melky and LaRoche are not going to discover the fountain of youth. God to get rid of them somehow. Addition by subtraction. Pray Thompson can play LF and hit .280 with some power and pray Avi can learn how to hit to go with our good CF. Sign the best free agent 3B available and trade prospects for a catcher to go with Flowers or Soto. Cut the loser of that battle. Sox got to figure a way to hit some home runs. But don't turn a decent pitching staff into an average one or we're really f***ed.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) I really, really hope we don't trade him. Trading Quintana would turn a major strength into a league-average position for us. I really, truly agree with this. They truly blew it not dealing Shark, who was NOT needed to finish last in the Central. Losing Q would really weaken this starting staff. Look: Sale, EJ, Q, Righty free agent veteran, Rodon is a good rotation. Bullpen of Robertson closer, Danks, the guy we took No. 1 in the draft, is a good start in the pen with Nate. Get rid of Duke, Petricka, any of the other hacks who simply are NOT CONSISTENT in getting anybody out. Do what the Royals do and let Danks, the guy we took No. 1 in the draft, Nate and Robertson develop some chemistry and become a lock down bullpen!! You can't win with a "sometimes good, most times s***ty" bullpen nowadays!!
  19. Trading him would be so stupid. To be a contender for wildcard anytime soon we need good pitching. Rotation should be Sale, Johnson, Quintana, Righty free agent veteran we acquire somewhere, and Rodon. Danks bullpen! Put our promising youngsters in the damn bullpen which has sucked during our recent years of suckage. Actually put some guys in the pen who can actually get guys out on a consistent basis. Not rag arm stiffs. So how do we improve the crap lineup? Trade the guy we took No. 1 this year plus another prospect for an MLB catcher, sign a couple free agents while really truly trying to trade Duke, Melky and LaRoche. It makes no sense to trade Q if we are trying to win anything.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 09:45 PM) Before Obama, there was only Carter and then Clinton. 12 years of Dems, 28 years of GOP presidents....Nixon/Ford, Reagan, Bush, GW Bush. So even with demographics seemingly in favor of the Dems, there's no overconfidence because of issues like Citizens United and the continued deterioration of labor groups/influence. Not to mention the fact that Asians are going to be an even faster growing demo than Hispanics until 2065, and it's way too early to assume the GOP will continue to piss off/offend both and force the majority to the Dem side. A young candidate like Rubio with charisma can carve off a lot of votes if he can only manage to articulate moderate or reasonable policies which appeal to both sides from the middle. Triangulation in Clinton vernacular. Can he get there from the right/Tea Party side without offending those same groups that put him in office, only time will tell. I still can't imagine Sanders being electable, Trump...no way, so that leaves Rubio, Kasich and Christie. Kasich has the most experience, but he might have a little too much of that Carson soft-spoken/understated thing going. He's almost too reasonable. Would like to see more fire out of him but playing it close to the vest and watchingthe field implode around him has its merits as well. But Caulfield, does any candidate excite you and make you all happy about the future? I'm a bit scared of Trump, but I tell you the economy is in such a shambles and almost everybody agrees there's no hope for ever having a boon again, I almost would be willing to let Trump try as a last resort. There's no $$$ in America; no prosperity right now, just exorbitant costs of everything with a serious illness threatening to wipe each one of us (except the totally wealthy) out. For some reasons corporations current goals are to pay one person -- the CEO -- about 40 million a year and pay everybody else pennies. What a weird country/world.
  21. Hey, this is not a rip on Hillary. Anybody who posts regularly here knows I despise her so I don't need to get word out on that. I did have a question in the Democratic thread, since you guys are going to win the Presidential election again IMO. And judging from my poll on God I assume we have a fairly Democratic board on Soxtalk, mostly all Demos/liberals. If I'm wrong, my bad. I had a question to you Democrats and Republicans: Q-Partisan politics aside, does anything about your candidate excite you, or make you gung-ho, bursting with pride about being an American and the upcoming Presidential election? Is there anything about your candidate that makes you say, "Damn, these 4-8 years are gonna be great!!! I can't wait!!!" Just curious. In my case, no Republican candidate makes me feel that way and of course no democratic candidate. So I wanted to see if you were as fatalistic about the future as I am. I mean Obama ran on change and youth the first time and people were stoked!!! What about now? For you is it just, yeah we'll win cause Democrats always win, but whatever. I have no faith my candidate will make much of a difference.
  22. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 03:58 AM) Maybe GMs are smarter than we think. I see nothing in Shark's stats that even point to ace. The Cubs and A's didn't think so and Sox fans bought into the hype. Sure they probably could have gotten a career AAA player that makes Beckham look like a super star. We'll see. I still predict 18 to 20 mill a year for four years for Shark. Some team will pay it foolishly. And it'll be seen as a good acquisition in the winter when all deals are considered blockbuster and great (LaRoche signing was praised??? Ugh). In reality, he's worth a Guthrie-like deal; 2 years 9 mill a year type deal.
  23. Serious question: Will next year's Sox offense be one of the worst in team history? Maybe modern AL history? With Garcia looking like an official flop, Melky and LaRoche a year older and not producing many ribbies and the black holes at 3B, 2B, C and arguably SS, it could really be abysmal.
  24. Sox are about to be 10 under .500. Just yesterday they were on that hot streak and were just a game under. It's taken consistently bad baseball to get to a season low of 10 under.
  25. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) 1st??? Holy s***! And that is despite early Noesi, the Danks highs n lows, & Shark being pure toilet? Amazing if that's true. If the Sox are first in something and this bad ... you won't see the front office dealing its only strength IMO. I think we coulda dumped Shark when we had a chance and picked up something in return. Now it's too late for that.
