  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) I'd be fin with 3/30 for Freese. I want no part of Cabrera or Kendrick though. I'd rather sign Avila for cheaper and bring back Alexei. IMO the ONLY reason Alexei won't get 8-12 million a year from somebody is if they think he's 40 to 45 years old cause of the birth certificate thing with some players. Otherwise, he's a workhorse who plays every day and isn't so bad a player. I think he'll get 10 to 15 mill a year for 3 years IF THEY ARE NOT afraid of the age thing. You know, if players listened to coaches in the big leagues I think a guy like Alexei would benefit. He obviously has a ridiculous approach at the plate and could use some tips from a hitting coach. But I'm sure he's one of those guys who doesn't listen to coaching since he's a veteran. If it's true Lexi sucks now and will only get 4 mill a year or something ridiculous like that, I damn well hope the Sox sign him. Saladino I'm afraid isn't the answer.
  2. These women on the View need professional help. I mean not to be obnoxious but they don't even apologize for their criticism of Florina's face? Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar commenting on somebody else's face?? They should fire the whole bunch of them. Florina should have never gone on that show. Those hosts would rather be denied pizza for a week than show respect to a Republican candidate. Florina should have asked them what they thought of Hillary's face to put them on the spot. Would they have said: "OMG, glad you asked. Hillary is gorgeous!!" How dare those women of the View, who are hideous looking themselves, criticize anybody else's face. My gawd. https://www.yahoo.com/tv/s/view-hosts-clash...-175237563.html
  3. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) Not that this is the thing that should stop Carson from being President, but in the book he literally says, "Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point." Note that nowhere in Carson's campaign's defense do they allege that Carson was offered a full scholarship to West Point. Thus, that statement in the book is still erroneous. But yeah, maybe the media should spend more time talking about how the guy thinks God gave the Egyptians the knowledge to build the pyramids in order to allow them to store grain for long periods. Or about how his tax plan would absolutely bankrupt the country. Greg, what policies of Carson do you like? Why? I'm not hooked on him yet as to where I'd say I fully support him winning. I'm just saying at this point in time it appears only 4 candidates have a shot. So in Greg's world AT THIS TIME they are. ... Hillary -- I feel she is mean to people beneath her, she is very rude, she feels entitled, is very rich (if we're talking lies how about that lie she gave about how poor she was) and just not the type of person you would want to reward with the highest office. Bernie Baby - I kind of like him. Not saying I wouldn't ultimately vote for him. Got to be honest don't like the voice very much (many voters are superficial). Carson - I'm ready to try something new. Sick of politicians. He's Donald Trump light if you compare candidates to beers. Also not crazy about his voice. Trump - I'd be willing to give it to him, slam dunk, but like Hillary, this guy is elitist and entitled and pretty full of himself, just as Hilly is full of herself. If Trump would promise to shut up for six months after winning and just work on the economy I might go for him. There are just four candidates and right now I like the non traditional Carson.
  4. The state of Journalism is Very very sad. Carson camp saying the story is false. I'm so sick of gotcha Journalism. Nobody cares, though. They'll see the headlines and say, "See, Hillary is the choice!!!!!" Yahoo article ... “[Carson] never said he was admitted or even applied,” Watts reportedly told the Daily Caller. “This is what we’ve come to expect from Politico.” Conservative political commentator and Carson friend Armstrong Williams defended the candidate in an interview with The Washington Post, arguing that it’s Politico who is guilty of “shoddy journalism.” Williams notes that Carson never claimed to have applied to West Point. In fact, Carson has said a number of times, in “Gifted Hands” and elsewhere, that he only had $10 to spend on college applications, forcing him to narrow his options to one: Yale. “Dr. Carson boasts about his scores in ROTC. Westmoreland encourages him to apply,” Williams told the Post. “As Dr. Carson says, they were impressed by his scores, but he never applied. They said to him, we could get you in. This guy got into Yale—obviously he could have got in. The headline was a fabrication.“
  5. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) I know that you've been told this before, but you do understand it's very hard to intentionally shoot a moving target in the leg right? And if the shooter misses, we might go from zero fatalities in this case to more than zero fatalities. Because each of these hypothetical armed students will not be marksmen. I guess I was thinking about what I'd do. I'd take a ton of lessons on how to use my gun (or gub as Woody Allen said in that hilarious movie Take the Money and Run) and if I saw the guy wield his knife at me, I'd try to shoot him in the butt or leg. Just me.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) Ben Carson fabricated a story about getting accepted to West Point. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/11/ben-...st-point-215598 What's with all the gotcha Journalism surrounding Ben Carson? Man they are out to get him and no outrage. I didn't realize the Republican party was hated as badly as it is. They're just paving the smooth road for Hillary with all this. As far as this story ... so far I'm not enraged by it cause all politicians lie (cop out but true). Just like all major college and pro coaches lie. They just do.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) Yea, Hilary is certainly getting the kid gloves, all of the candidates have had to go before congress and answer questions just like her. I like Ben Carsons assumptions that the pyramids were just large granaries built by Joseph. I totally want the president of the United States to be completely ignorant of the world. That was the Republicans' doing, her having to go to Congress. It helped her cause it showed the big bad Republicans couldn't get our Hillary. It turned into a HUGE victory for Hilly. It was portrayed in the media as the jealous Republicans trying to bring our Democratic favorite down and it didn't work you bad Republicans!! Vote Hillary!! It was awesome for Hillary and I'd be surprised if a smart person like you would deny that. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 05:56 PM) I guess if Carson is the nominee we'll see how much of the "black" vote he'll receive since that's the only reason blacks voted for Obama before. Race is a slippery slope and I don't want to go there, but I really feel like he gets none of the black vote because he's seen as a rich surgeon and as Jason Whitlock writes many of the African American community do not want people of color to cooperate and make it through what they perceive is a White system. So Carson's success in the business world goes against him. Obama was merely seen as a political figure, not a business succes story. Read Jason Whitlock on race.
  8. 15 million is nothing nowadays for one year so I doubt the Sox threaten Boras with the bullpen. As much as I despise Shark, at least he contributed a few good outings whereas LaRoche was pretty bad the entire year. In other words, I'd laugh if he returns but not be TOO mad. Shark is merely bad, not Dunn bad or LaRoche bad or Keppinger bad or Beckham bad or Rios bad (when he was here).
  9. One thing I forgot is Lexi could be 42 by now. The age thing.
  10. It seems like every day some media type is trying to get "the big one" on Carson. They keep bringing up things he's said and appear to be trying to get him to lose favor with voters drastically. How come Obama was basically off limits from this kind of stuff. It was all kind, gentle coverage of Obama during his eight years. Hillary's getting the kid gloves, too. In this world of cliches and 20-second max soundbites, the main story on Hillary is ... "Big Bad Republicans Continue to Attack Hillary Who Did Nothing Wrong with Her Emails and Did Nothing Wrong Regarding Benghazi" Meanwhile, they are trying to make Carson look like a Loonie-Tune (despite him being an incredible surgeon and brilliant man). The overwhelming vibe given from media's coverage of Ben Carson is that he's a man with weird thoughts and ideas; Meanwhile they are trying to make Trump also look like a Loonie-Tune and a sexist and an all around bad guy; and finally they scoff at the rest of the Republican candidates as merely being unworthy of high office. What's with the media going after Carson?? Do they not like his voice or something? His voice is kinda weird sounding. Considering his resume I do not think Carson is some scary-thinking bizarre cat, which the media is kinda wanting us to believe! They certainly aren't giving us the picture of Carson as a brilliant surgeon; no way is that the media's portrayal of Ben.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) Hmm it's almost as if knife attacks tend to be much less deadly than mass gun attacks! Not to be a contrarian asshole, but if the students were carrying guns, once the perpetrator whipped out the knife, boom, shoot him in the leg and incident is over. It's dangerous out there and I am all for the bad guys taking a bullet in the butt or the leg when they are wielding knives and guns.
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 5, 2015 -> 11:45 PM) Why would any team reject a $10 Mill option, only to make a 15M QO? I know it's hard to believe it now, but Sox life will go on without Alexei. The org. will find a way to endure. True, but we don't know what the plan is. Like I said earlier, an infield of Olt, Saladino, Sanchez (or Micah), Abreu is very very weak offensively. We don't have a shortstop and nobody's really stated a possible acquisition at short. So it'll probably be Saladino/Beckham, LOL at that.
  13. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 11:46 PM) I'd say 90% of Soxtalk did not see this coming. Sure as hell surprised me. I have read few, if any, offseason plans involving a restructured Alexi contract. Why do a lot of people think he's gonna get a restructured deal with the Sox? He's a decent shortstop. He's actually above average and has a little pop in his bat. He's gonna get 12-15 million a year with somebody, believe it or not.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) http://news.yahoo.com/u-republicans-ask-ir...-001835332.html Greg will love this new "investigation." Where there's smoke ... There's an awful lot of smoke around Hillary. Oh I forgot, her popularity rises when we look into her. She's untouchable of course. BTW if you want some awesome political impressions/humor do a youtube search of Dana Carvey. He has some good stuff on Bill Clinton returning to the White House. It's pretty damn funny. There's Carvey on Fallon's Tonight Show recently and another clip of Carvey at a Comedy Shop with Jon Lovitz. I forget which one did the Bill back in the White House getting sex from Hillary and others. Very funny. I'm serious. Youtube it for laughs. And don't say "My god, Greg thinks Dana Carvey is funny; what a troll. What an idiot." You watch it and tell me you didn't laugh out loud as I did. Comic genius.
  15. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 06:43 AM) 1. I don't know why I'm going down this road 2. I don't even know why I'm in PHT to begin with, but.... You want a power bullpen and your first move is moving Danks to the pen? Just to face one lefty batter or two in a row.
  16. Can you imagine having an infield of Olt or Beckham at 3B, Saladino at SS, Sanchez or Micah at second and Abreu at first? With all due respect to Abreu, that's by far the worst infield in baseball 2016 and one of the worst in Sox history.
  17. Five people stabbed on a California campus. Horrifying. Not to be insensitive, but it was about time. Enough time had passed since the last atrocity. Tell your loved ones to be alert at all times. You never know when some nut is going to attack.
  18. All of the Sox current options are worse than Alexei. Should be interesting.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 05:44 AM) i know it is a women on women comment. but look at the men running and in the past, like they were what, great beauties???? this is really shallow of them, i really don't care it the candidate, whomever it is, looks like the elephant man, if this person can run the country, lead this nation toward a better 4 yrs, who the f*** cares on what they look like. I agree it's crazy. I mean how dare those ladies on the View rip Florina's face like that. It's ridiculous. Like I said Whoopi and Joy are no beauty queens. They better apologize Friday. Nah they won't. BTW I love Dana Carvey's political humor
  20. How insulting to Bud Black. He takes the job then hears he's been given a one year offer? My gawd. That's obscene.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 05:36 AM) Royals players decided to talk about how they didn't have a ROY, Cy Young or MVP but they're still awesome and beat them all. God they're assholes Quin, That was Gomes. He took control of the pep rally. I think he was drinkin. It was pretty funny more than anything.
  22. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 01:16 AM) I'm good with this pen as is. Only thing I'd do is add a power arm if possible. Sox need a power bullpen. Move Danks to the pen as the loogy. Robertson is an OK closer. Let Nate try to be the Sox version of Herrera until he fails, which I believe he will. Sox need gas in the bullpen. There's no reason to trot guys out there like Duke and Petricka and Webb who we know simply can't cut it.
  23. What is going on in the great city of Chicago? It's a fricking war zone. http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20151102/au...y-officials-say
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:05 AM) My biggest reason is the Clinton Foundation has become a personal wealth vehicle (along with a plethora of well compensated speeches)...it's nothing close to pure charity, and, although you can certainly find fault with, for example, Gates' Foundation and mission of spreading MS gospel, it's still 50-75% closer to the mark. She's a rich, elitist, mean grandmother type. Replace mean with b----y person if you must. Can't believe she wants to be president at the age of 77 (second term). Crazy to me.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 11:40 PM) Actually demented is more about mental state of mind/bearing than physical appearance. Questioning her stability...and poise, not her worthiness to be selected for America's Next Top Model. The funny thing to me is that any woman who's even halfway or moderately attractive like Sarah Palin or Ann Coulter suddenly finds herelf a superstar in the GOP ranks. No, they made it clear they were referring to her face. The Halloween mask comment as well. Whoopi made it clear they meant she is hideous looking.
