Mark Buehrle to retire?
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) Ed Walsh Chris Sale Wilbur Wood Eddie Cicotte Billy Pierce Red Faber Ted Lyons And then there are the pitchers who "put on a Sox uniform" but didn't spend their prime pitching seasons here. Don't get me wrong, Buehrle was a great pitcher for us, but let's not overrate him. His numbers aren't nearly as good as the posters here make them sound. I'll say this about Sox fans. They never forget those old-time pitchers. Those old time pitchers always are thought of better than guys like Buehrle, etc. Wilbur Wood was not better than Buehrle, BTW. Of course Sale has better stuff. Let's see if he has longevity. As far as Walsh, cicotte, Pierce, Faber, Lyons ... who gives a f***? Those guys are ancient! Let's talk about modern history. Buehrle was GREAT in the modern era. p.s. If that was Buehrle's last time on the mound, how ugly. All the runs were unearned but that grand slam was tattooed and so were some hard hit singles and doubles. I don't know why he wants to quit at 36 unless it's totally health related. If his arm is killing him I guess I can't blame him. Otherwise, we could trade Q for a ton of hitting talent and bring in Mark for 4-6 million one year deal with an option. s***, even if Buehrle's arm is falling off, he'd be better than Zach Duke for gosh sakes.

Best / Worst 2015
By anybody's account, even in the era of participation trophies, this was a horrible season. It could be characterized by losing. They were one game over .500 on May 18. That's it for being over .500. Low water mark was 11 under. It was a pathetic season. I'd give the Sox a D as a grade for the season. Only good thing was their performance in extra inning games. My grades ... Abreu: A Sanchez C- (bad hitter) Micah - D. Lexi - C (.250 hitter, bad defense early). Olt - D. Gillaspie F. Saladino B- Melky C- Eaton B Avi C to C- Trayce - A Shuck - C to C- Beckham - D to D- Flowers - D Soto - C- Sale - A Quintana - A Rodon - B to A-minus Danks - B-minus Duke - D Petricka - D Nate - C Robertson - B-minus Shark - C-minus to D LaRoche - D to D-minus. Robin - F Hitting coach: F Pitching coach: C Worst player on team: LaRoche. Best player on the team: Abreu. Best pitcher on team: Sale. Worst pitcher on team: Duke.

10/4 vs Detroit Tigers
Fitting ending to a horrible season. I laughed when I saw that was the lineup today. That lineup isn't gonna get more than three hits ... wait, that's how many they got in the game.

Another School Shooting
Well, it's all over. We are all at war over the nutjobs. Look at this. Four students plotting a mass killing at a high school. Targeting names and ways to kill. Just remember, everytime you step out of your house in America now, you are in a war against the nutjobs that want you dead. Many reasons for the new warzone called America, but it's undeniable. Going to school nowadays in America is VERY dangerous as is living your life. Some kooks with weapons may kill you. Live each day cause somebody wants you off this planet. Very sad state of affairs in weapon-ridden America. Keep glorifying these killers, media. http://news.yahoo.com/four-california-stud...-175242672.html

Mark Buehrle to retire?
QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) Look, I love the guy. But this was a nice thought that shouldn't have happened. The way it worked out. Second guessing is easy. He should have had an easy inning. Two errors including the first batter. s*** happens.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 03:54 AM) The entire country dropped what they were doing when Barry Bonds stepped to the plate, now they want to pretend like he didn't exist. C'Mon man. That's because he CHEATED. No Hall of Fame for any of these bums, please. I want success without cheating in my sports.

Mark Buehrle to retire?
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) it would great and fitting, if he can be at spring training and pitch the opening day.... for 1 pitch and then leave and retire. i really thought he would sign as a free agent.... I doubt the Sox would mess with something like that on Opening Day next season. Sox are going to have enough to worry about in trying to start winning games. Also Mark's body isn't exactly perfectly sculped. If he does retire and takes the winter off, I'd suspect it might be a mockery to put him in uniform and on the mound. I'd suspect he'll be out of shape big time after the winter.

Brother Rice beat Mt. Carmel. Holy s***. You guys were right. Rice's coach must be good enough after all. I thought he'd never have a good enough defense to compete.

Mark Buehrle to retire?
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) No, his contract is up. And it just sounds like they aren't putting him on their postseason roster. If he was in pain, I doubt he'd pitch today. I'm just sad. I was gonna pull for the Blue Jays because of Mark. Pretty good story here. His shoulder's ailing. He's done at 36. Weird. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/base...rticle26555885/

Mark Buehrle to retire?
This story is so weird. Buehrle has had a decent season and isn't getting lit up every outing. He rules the Royals still. I wonder if we're going to hear he's in so much pain. I mean doesn't he have a few more years on his contract, too? He's not that old, either. That's crazy he must be hurt beyond belief to not pitch in the playoffs.

Mark Buehrle to retire?
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 06:31 AM) One of the most overrated players by Sox fans. He was a good pitcher, but not 1st or 2nd ballot HOF like some people around here used to make you think the way they talked about him. Had a cool personality though. I think Toronto could use him in the bullpen for the playoffs as a long reliever. Just in case one of their guys gets in trouble, they won't have to burn their bullpen. What a lousy post. Overrated? What are you expecting from your players? He was amazing and a good example for all the other pitchers.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) 1. Because you're not interested in actually discussing anything about Democrats, you're interested in insulting one of them. You're the guy who won't stop talking about the Cubs in every single White Sox game thread. 2. This week, one of the senior Republicans in the House admitted publicly that the goal of holding so many hearings on Benghazi was not to actually improve security or to discover what happened during the attack, it's to hurt Hillary Clinton's poll numbers. They literally tell you that the point of this for the Republicans is to make Hillary Clinton look bad, and you wonder why no one believes that a bunch of Republicans writing bad things about Hillary Clinton isn't clear evidence that Hillary is terrible. Maybe you should try the Republican thread with that waste, because Republicans saying terrible things about Hillary Clinton seems more likely to be treated as the word of god over there. If you want it questioned and called BS, then feel free to continue posting BS waste of space stupid dumb foolish waste of time New York Post Rupert Murdoch Fox News co articles in here. Because that's what you're posting. But don't be surprised when it gets called a waste of time and an embarrassment to the person posting it. You usually know me pretty well. But mentioning the Cubs a lot? I don't know where you got that one. I think I've said a few times we're really going to be f***ed if the Cubs win it all. The Sox will be totally irrelevant. But other than that ... WTF? As far as being a Republican, I told u all I voted for Obama in the last election, so obviously I'm not a freak Republican. I also blasted the Republican moron governor of Kansas. s***, I see a timely article on Hillary and I post it. The guy tore her a new one, saying she's one of the meanest, rudest people of all time and gave examples. It wasn't even an anonymous source but a real one. I have no axe to grind. Yes I despise her but it's not like I vote all Republican. I might even vote for Bernie, who knows?

Mark Buehrle to retire?
Very weird. He has had great success against the Royals, too. Must have a dead arm or amazing amounts of pain.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) Seriously, go to the d*** Republican thread. That's why we have it. You want to rip Democrats, there's a thread for it. You can spout off all the NY Post rumors and tell us the virtues of mass deportation all you want. I didn't know specific comments about Hillary should be in the Republican thread. That confuses me. She's Democrat. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) Saying someone is evil is a little over the top. You can take pretty much every politician apart other than Jimmy Carter, and he was arguably one of the five worst presidents of all-time. Taking a quote from a Secret Secret agent (probably with an axe to grind, maybe he was relieved from her detail or caught up in one of the numerous scandals over the past couple of decades?) isn't going to convince anyone to compare her with Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Hitler and Joseph Goebbels. It's not a popularity contest. For every good trait of Bill Clinton as a politician or intellectually, there are just as many "evil/manipulative/lawyerly" ones that always worked to his detriment and will forever stain his two terms in office. Let's face it, the same characteristics in men...women always get described as "b----es." How come nobody ever believes articles where people say Hillary is one lousy person? Evil is the wrong word but excessively rude? Amazingly rude? Disrespectful? You rarely hear about people being this nasty who are serving the public.

Hahn Confirms: Ventura back for 2016
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) It's not all on Robin but we can all agree he has no business being the manager. Stop defending him DA. The weird thing is you never hear a word from anybody but us and the Sox announcers about how bad the Sox are in fundamentals and baserunning. It's pretty obvious Hawk and Stone think Robin blows cause if they thought he could lead a team they'd be telling us that over and over. Instead? Silence.

Another School Shooting
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 04:54 AM) I'm just numb. I got down to the newsroom after class, saw this on our TVs and then just got back to work. Nothing will change. We'll mourn. We'll talk about the heroic dead. We'll ask why the media is saying the killer's name. We'll say it was mental illness. We'll say he'd do it with anything if he couldn't get a gun. And then we'll feel better. We'll forget the heroic dead. We'll forget the killer's name. We won't do anything for mental health in this country. We'll ignore that this keeps happening, Exactly. And as this escalates ... wow. In 20 years you won't recognize America. It's really going to be a mean, scary place where people are scared to death to go anywhere. Wait til we get an incident at a sports event, which is inevitable. Wow that will change sports too. Second half of a sports event a couple hours into the game when some nutjobs storm a 20,000 seat hoops arena or 50,000 stadium? Wow. Lots more will be killed but hopefully the rent a cops are armed and kill the nutjobs before they do too much damage.

Hahn Confirms: Ventura back for 2016
I would feel better if Robin would admit he did a s*** job this year. He was proclaiming playoffs before the season. We're 10 under .500 for goshsakes.
-
Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
You can't trade him cause the goal is to win. We have a pitching staff, aside from some awful relievers, is playoff caliber. Our ONLY hope is to keep all these pitchers except for the trash relievers and work on the everyday lineup.

Guys I don't make up this stuff. Go ahead and blame the messenger, this investigative reporter obviously made all this stuff up. I like the last quote: A person with Hillary's temperament should not even be hired by a McDonalds much less the presidency. She is evil, but go ahead and blame the messenger. http://nypost.com/2015/10/02/secret-servic...e-to-work-with/

Not stopping at a stop sign? Really police?
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) Greg - I believe everything your saying and cop might have been that way, but you broke the law and deserved the ticket. Problem with rolling is the times that you drive on autopilot you very well might roll and not realize someone else is there. Could he have been nice and let you off, sure, but doesn't make him a dick because he didn't. That said, he could very well have been a jerk to you. You also have to remember that anytime an officer pulls someone over, it could be the last person they pull over. Never know who might pull something, etc...always on their guard. Makes sense. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 08:24 PM) Rule of thumb, dont do anything wrong on the roads in oak park. Why? Are they especially stringent?

Hahn Confirms: Ventura back for 2016
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 02:34 AM) Next year should be do or die for Ventura and Hahn. They clearly want to go for it again, so there needs to be good transactions and Ventura needs them ready out of the gate. Good point, fathom. My question is ... are they going to extend Robin or is it the last year on his contract? The players matter much more than the manager and we have lousy players, sure, but like I said before the White Sox style of play reflects VERY BADLY on Robin: Horrible bunting (and yet he calls for bunts like all managers do when they need to move a runner in certain situations), gawd-awful defense, just horrendous; piss poor baserunning; amazingly bad situational hitting (guys won't go the other way when we NEED a hit, even with the shift on, granted this is not just a White sox problem). Basically the only thing I think Robin does well is manage the pitching staff (the best manager in baseball history couldn't do better maneuvering bullpen pieces since most of our bullpen pitchers have been abysmal the past few years) and manage well in extra inning games (except the 2 every year we run out of pitchers). Overall I'd give him a D-plus as a manager. You guys willing to grade him??

Sox Fire Mark Parent
QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 02:07 AM) Ya know, I have Ventura fatigue. No more. Sorry. Jerry obviously won't fire him. Loyalty baby.
