  1. Yes. But it's Fenway. Could be a long evening. An 11-9 type win again??
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 07:18 AM) I think Samardzija gets something like 5 years $105 million. My gosh. What owner would agree to that? You know it's just overpaying and the team that pays that will want to dump him by July next year. QUOTE (JolietThunder @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) This four game sweep was the worst thing that could have happen for our long term future. I hope FO doesn't start believing in this team like I did after seeing great pitching( which is norm for us), stellar defense (not use to seeing around here) and some timely hitting ( also not use to seeing). I want this team to take CUBS approach and suck for few year and stock pile our minor league roster. Might as well keep winning and win the WC. Like somebody said the other day on soxtalk.com, it'd be nice to have a team for once come out of nowhere from the dregs to steal a playoff spot. It'd be so NOT like the white Sox organization to do that for once. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Yep, Shields is going to be a very hard sell. Imo, Shields' contract sheds a little light as to what Samardzija could be looking for in his next contract. Not necessarily back loaded but the annual salary (21M) and years (5). I would not touch that. This is what I don't get. We're just past the all star break and suddenly Shields won't be wanted by anybody. Yet just a few months ago, last offseason, he was highly sought after and commanded the ridiculous contract he got from the Pads. Why can't GMs and owners do some projecting and realize guys like Shields and Shark are not worth 20 million a year. I mean Verlander isn't worth 5 million a year now. I wish I had monopoly money to throw around like baseball execs. At least in football they can sign guys to ridiculous deals then release them. The only money that matters is the upfront cash.
  3. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 04:33 AM) BMags: Also keep in mind Robertson threw a lot of innings the last few years with the Yankees and that's not counting the times he warmed up and wasn't used. It all adds up. The Sox have to seriously think about moving Danks to the pen if they in fact get back in the race. You simply can't have a guy getting beat up and blowing out the bull pen in three out of every four of his starts. But with what he's getting paid would the Sox do that? Mark It's not that bad. I quoted the stats last game when Danks dominated. I think he'd been excellent in something like four of eight starts. It's not easy to pitch in Fenway. I expect Shark will have some trouble as well tomorrow. BTW, Stoney was saying Danks had an uncharacteristic start tonight during the wrap part of the broadcast. Why won't the Danks haters accept the fact he's been damn good for a fifth starter. Again ... take the money out of the equation. He's been OK as No. 5 as he continues his comeback from that surgery.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 04:06 AM) Get the f*** out this thread you f***ing jinx. Calm down. You are getting awfully mad lately at somebody you don't know, who merely posts stuff on the internet. I am not a jinx. Be careful before you get banned. Just put me on ignore. Nice win, White Sox. Time for the team to keep winning, albeit it's tough to do on the road in a loud park like Fenway.
  5. Nice play by Saladino. Can't beat making the routine plays! That's a big win in Fenway. I don't care how s***ty the Sawx are, it's nice to win there. Sox won't be trading Shark now folks. Add a starter and a hitter. Trade some of our prospects to do that I guess.
  6. DeAza was a tough out there. Why no change ups? We in big trouble, folks.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:45 AM) How was Danks today big guy? It ain't easy facing the Sawx in Fenway. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:49 AM) Not even Bob Dole thinks Tyler Flowers is okay. The Red Sox radio guys started off the broadcast saying he was entering tonight in a 1 for 26 slump and that it was one of the many positions the White Sox would love to upgrade offensively. Luckily, LaRoche wasn't in the line-up to get targeted. Btw, did Hanley Ramirez manage to also misplay that one, or it was a double all the way? Not many catchers consistently hit nowadays. Cmon get DeAza out!!! Robertson is angering me.
  8. Tyler baby. You guys gotta admit when u are wrong! Greg has told you all along Flowers is OK!! Let's win this game.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:41 AM) Greg, seriously man, can you get out of this thread please? You are like the ultimate f***ing jinx bro. They are really hot. Sanchez is over .220 and Melky is nearing .280.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:32 AM) Petricka is amped right now. Good. Like to see guys compete finally. Nice.
  11. If we win this game, there will be talk Sox want to add a starting pitcher and a hitter. This.Team.Is.Wild.
  12. Melky and Sanchez are so hot it's amazing. If Sox can hold on and win, that would be nice.
  13. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) You paint a scenario that makes you right. Actually 100% right and without any room for argument. Based on your situation there would be little or no chance of helping and a prudent person should not add to the problem by shooting. Your example is so tight that 99% of people would agree with you. Now how about it's the guy in front of me who just stood up and is shooting people in front of him. He's close enough for me to see and touch? I like my chances in my scenario. At some point he is going to turn around and start shooting behind him and I'm next in line. Of all the possible scenarios we can start arguing I will agree that probably 90% would result in fleeing or hiding being the much better option than pulling the trigger. I'll concede that point. But it becomes a rather worthless argument. You can hypothetically argue that every person carrying is going to take stupid shots based on your knowledge of gun owners who have qualified to carry. I'm going to argue that people who are carrying in your situation would not return fire in that scenario. I'll also argue that if you were standing next to the guy and he was aiming for your head, you would wish someone would shoot him first. My approach will be much better than the people who are not carrying who will stand up and run towards the nearest exit, in some cases right at the killer, making the killer's shot even easier. You see if you can make gun owners do stupid stuff in your example why can't I make those not carrying do stupid stuff? Does that prove my case any better? Great post. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 01:01 AM) Y'all are perfect at creating a scene where a gun would not be useful. It is also not very useful when held by a cop ten minutes away. It isn't useful in arguably 90%+ of situations in a theater. With a straight face here are a couple situations where it is useful. If I am close enough to see the shooter clearly, perhaps within 10' to 15' a gun would be extremely useful. If you are hiding between the seats pissing your pants and the gunman turns down your row and is standing over you aiming for your head, a gun is extremely useful to you. If they are aiming at your spouse or child, you will really wish you had one. But if you are too far away to safely take a shot at the murderer in the crowd, you are also safer hiding because he will also have little chance to kill you. His best chance is also your best chance, close up. The only situation worse than a shooting in a movie theater would be sitting in front of a guy shooting in a movie theater. All the environmental factors you mention make it a terrible place to shoot someone. To help your hiding you may wish to wear black clothes. But bottom line y'all are thinking about the person carrying and protecting everyone. I'm thinking about carrying and protecting the people immediately around me. If we are far enough away that I don't have a shot, either will the murderer, so we keep hiding, taking cover, trying to flee. If we come face to face with the killer, then y'all hope for the police to save you, I will, with a straight face, believe my gun will be more useful than your ability to do whatever. Another great post. Tex is right. If the bastard comes up to you and you have a gun ... bang, the perpetrator is DEAD. Tex is the man.
  14. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Going to keep beating this drum. If the Sox think they are going to get back in it this week, Soto should be getting playing time at C and DH. No way around it. LaRoche and Flowers are currently two weakest links on the team. You guys act like Geo is Johnny Bench revisited. He's just another guy. Flowers isn't the problem with this team. How many games did he catch in the Cleveland series? Last I looked we won all 4 games in that series.
  15. Hmmm. Would they have taken Shark for Finnegan and Lamb, leaving out the third guy? Finnegan and Lamb both are ready to join the Sox rotation. Did we blow it in not making the deal??
  16. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 03:50 AM) This team wants to play. They are playing to stay together and not trade away Shark. If they continue to win until the deadline, then they earn the right to stay together. I guess I might say they are showing us that TWTW. (Oh Hawk, you poet you). Actually F*** Hawk, but this team is playing some good ball. It might be even more fun to watch if we can somehow parlay LaDouch out of here and maybe bring Micah up. Good take. Can't argue with that at all.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 03:17 AM) Serious question about Samardzija's impending free agency. I was just looking at James Shields' contract which pays him 21M per season covering the 2016/17/18 seasons and a 19 team option of 16M. Shields numbers have gone down despite switching to the NL in a pitchers park , pitching in a division with pitchers parks. Samardzija is about three years younger so just how much is he going to ask for? So about a month or so after signing Shields to that ridiculous contract, the Pods want to get rid of him. Baseball is the best/worst sport, run by idiots. Shortly after signing Shark this offseason, the team that does it will be trying to get rid of him, certainly by midseason. Where is the common sense??? NOBODY is worth this kind of money. Verlander?? LOL, nuff said.
  18. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 03:05 AM) This team needs to go 3 of 4 in BOS and sweep NYY before I can buy in. Just can't let myself believe yet. You are prolly right. This four game sweep of Cleveland is probably one we'll look back and say, how the hell did that happen?
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) Beat a bad Cleveland team nothing has changed at all. Look at last home stand tells me all I need to know 100% seller. True, but the WAY we beat Cleveland has to make you pause just a bit and say, WTF? I watched a Robin interview and he was saying, "Sometimes it takes a while to finally gel." I mean, I throw up my hands in exasperation. I do believe this team is horsecrap, but I can't PROVE it. So if they want to play out the string with the current players, I think I know what's gonna happen (finish about 10-20 under .500) but I can't prove it. So f*** it ... do whatever you want, Hahn. It's impossible to figure out this team. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 11:19 PM) We were dominated by 2 good teams, and we beat a bad team. Nothing has changed. Honestly, this continued White Flag paranoia is what is unsaleable. This ceaseless sojourn for some veteran that Kenny Williams believes is "elite" is what needs to stop. I tend to agree nothing has changed, I really do. But ... what if 3B and 2B really have improved this much?? What if this is the real Melky? What if our five starters continue to roll?? If you put a gun to my head I'd agree with you "nothing has changed." I really would. But ...
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 02:32 AM) I remember the "Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija" thread got like 200 pages of responses. It's sad that in such a short time, the "What can we get when we sell Samardzija" thread exists and has 86 pages. It's amazing how weird this saga is and continues to be. The Sox get Shark and many magazines pick them to win the division with this amazing pitching staff. Then the team plays so putrid and goes on so many weird losing streaks and stretches of abysmal play, most of us give up (El Rockin and maybe 1-2 others kept faith). Now, suddenly Sox are only 5 out of the second wildcard and there is the chance this upcoming trade will be what kills the team's chances once and for all, lol. Moral of the story: Don't play such BAD baseball when you are bad. I mean, ON PAPER, this team continues to be in the wild card race. The trade of Shark, however, figures to doom the team more, unless Johnson is amazing. At this point, I won't even be mad if they keep him and we get a draft pick when we lose him to free agency. I mean, this team is so fricking WEIRD we probably should keep it intact all season to see what ultimately happens. I mean this team is so bizarre LaRoche will probably find his stroke in September and hit 15 homers that month. At this point I'd rather keep Shark then send him away and get ripped off. Like I said, this freakishly weird team will probably go 25-5 in September and win the WC, then loose in the playoffs, cruise to the World Series.
  21. Good win. Great sweep. The Sox did so many anti-Sox things this series, basically mauling a Central Division team. Would be nice to win the opener vs. Boston and show them we've come to play ball. Rodon does look amazing. Can you imagine a rotation of Rodon, Sale, Shark and Q, with a servicable five in Danks, not 5-10 over .500?? Very bizarre season.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:10 PM) If this is true' why is Terry Francona and a roster not making $150 million a good manager? It is a good argument against managers mattering much. You have to admit though, Dick, the Sox are a dysfunctional team. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) Thanks! You know things are changing when a couple months ago that would have cost us the game That's for sure. That error would have opened the floogates for a quick 3 spot and loss. All hail the bizarre White Sox. Today that error didn't matter a bit.
  23. Well those 4 wins make up for a lot of the bizarre losses this season. Hard to believe but that was an impressive sweep out of nowhere. Could we humbly ask you White sox to keep it up?
  24. Uh oh. Time for Robertson to rear back and throw nasty the rest of this inning.
  25. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) Wow...some real "fans" here....hoping to lose...wow. It's been fun. I don't think anybody wants 'em to lose. You have to admit this team has been a bizarre squad to follow.
