Nice to pile up the runs against a Central Division team.

Melky is really hot. I wonder how he turned it around. He should tutor LaRoche on turning seasons around.

Erik Johnson not listed as AAA starter
Johnson has done pretty well this year. Do you think he'll dominate in his second stint in the bigs?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 02:27 AM) I wonder if Hahn is trying to get a Major league player , someone he could plug in the lineup right away. Since Blue Jays need a starter and a RP and Hahn can make the trade without actually declaring the season over. All Sox fans will understand him making a trade, so it won't affect attendance either way. I'd trade Shark and Lexi and replace them with Johnson and Saladino in the lineup. Put Davidson at third for a tryout the rest of the season. Davidson/Beckham platoon if we must.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 02:32 AM) Sanchez is starting to come along, good news! We are about to go on a run I think. We have Boston next, I could see us going 6-1 or 5-2 for the week He's doing better but he's hitting .210. Big Hurt don't get fooled again. This team has no rhyme or reason to it. We just KNOW when the team looks like it's worth a damn it'll drop several in a row. this team seems to like being 8 or so below .500. then it appears to relax. Once it gets to 3 or 2 under .500 the choking begins again.

How can Saladino be this good? He went to Oral Roberts for gosh sakes. He has perfect reflexes and form on defense and he's hitting .290.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 01:16 AM) Timing could not be any worse for false hope in front office. You are correct. They better not be thinking we are WC contenders cause the losing streaks just show up out of nowhere with this team. This is a breath of fresh air, though. Saladino has really helped this team and this version of Melky is helping a lot. Oh well, we all know what it takes to win. This is great but again we can't be fooled into thinking the team will contend.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) ref birdman. i gave it a A- to A. excellent acting..... all around in movie. Keaton, on top of the game as well. i am confuse with the ending and i still am lost ... i think it will always be one of those things that goes unexplained. lets see, ending. dead vs flying powers vs grief reaction vs ???? nice post. If I ever hear it was just a dream I'm going to freak out because dream sequences are dumb. I can't see her having a positive reaction if she saw him splattered dead. That would come way later. She didn't want him dead, that is for sure. She either saw a vision of him flying to heaven or he was flying. If he was flying, the taxi cab driver scene would be unnecessary/wrong.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) http://www.salon.com/2015/07/25/its_not_wh...s_toxic_appeal/ Pretty good article about why Trump has been so appealing. Great article. That is why I love him. I'd just love to see him tear into Hillary if he runs. I like this part of the above mentioned article. ... “He doesn’t know what ‘PC’ means,” as one New Hampshire supporter raved. For these people, Reeve writes, Trump is appealing because “he violates social taboos but not their own political sensibilities.” He says what they believe but don’t have the guts to say for themselves. Granted, this sounds like a pretty frivolous metric to use when deciding who should be president. But humans can be exceedingly tribal and frivolous things! And because Trump’s fans believe that political correctness is primarily enforced by an ill-defined group of elites, his willingness to say things that most of us would consider grotesquely uncouth and bigoted is understood as a more wide-ranging opposition to the powers that be. Look, for example, at how Rush Limbaugh, another veteran practitioner of political resentment, recently defended Trump. He focuses almost exclusively on the billionaire’s critics, rather than the man himself:

Trust me, Sox will be shipping him to Toronto, so those of you who study it, what would be a proper return from the Jays? What would be the least that would satisfy you?

White Sox call up Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) Saladino on the Score now. Do young people in general just mumble because all they do is text? Yep. Texting is all they do in terms of communication. Phone calls non grata.

That's Another White Sox Winner
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 04:38 AM) For 2 games, this team has actually been fun to watch. Good D, smart baserunning, power hitting, solid pitching. Fun! Amen, brother. It's why Hawk is the only one who hasn't given up on the season ... besides the great El Rockin of course. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 04:59 AM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 2h2 hours ago Alexei Ramirez credited support of coaches for recent play. Said he and staff had a "friendly meeting" and it has helped. #WhiteSox Yay. Good for our staff. I like hearing that. Lexi is a paradox. Sometimes he's the good Lexi. Many times the bad Lexi. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) Here and there this season the White Sox have been a lot of fun to watch. It's been kind of a weird year. You enjoy them for a week or two and then it's back to corpseball. Repeat....enjoy....suffer. Nice post, Ed. You are right. Your post is one of the best of the year IMO. As far as my take on the game, nice job Q. Melky is doing well lately. I still don't like him, but maybe he's OK as far as modern hitters go. Most are not very good and most are very streaky. And most don't have batting averages much better than Melkys.

Gillaspie to the Angels for cash
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) here is a question, what happen if he really performs for them...... i let yous guys fill out the rest. He won't. I guess he could get that sweet stroke of parts of last season back for a bit. He was really good at smashing the ball where it was pitched. But alas the season ended and took away his momentum and he pretty much stunk this entire season. His defense of course has always been mediocre to poor. Angels could get him on a hot streak if he gets that stroke back, but he's not capable of it for an extended period. I'd give his fielding a D and hitting a C.

7/24 Sox @ Indians 6:10 CSN
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 02:55 AM) Back to 6 games under! Nice, but don't be fooled into thinking we have a .500 team please. This team goes from playing OK to laughably bad in a second. And it drops games in bunches as we know. I really think it's gonna take a new coaching staff to change that.

Another Movie Theatre Shooting
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:50 AM) Be honest and think here. In a movie theater, under fire, it's dark, only light is from the screen. You really think that under fire, probably from behind, you could turn around, aim, and get a clean shot off without accidentally hitting the wrong person? While the person has a semi-automatic handgun and can keep pulling the trigger? Per the police, as the crowd was leaving the theater this guy snuck into it and almost got out of the theater before someone stopped the crowd/stopped him. The people fleeing the room didn't identify the shooter as he left the theater with the group. They couldn't tell. Now you're telling me you could honestly figure out who the shooter was with enough accuracy to pull the trigger? The closest example of a mass shooting interacting with a person carrying a weapon I can think of is the Gabrielle Giffords shooting and the person across the street who had the gun nearly shot the wrong person. And that was in the daylight. Well, I have confidence in Tex, that he'd get the guy. Just kidding (sorry, on a sensitive subject). But you make some good points, I'll give you that. I just want to see some progress on this problem. I mean, f***, you are risking your life going to a movie nowadays. Thank goodness he picked a night there were only 25 people in the damn theatre, not 225.

Yasiel Puig
Q is pretty darn good. The Sox's only hope for the future is building on this excellent starting staff. I would only trade Shark and closer Robertson off the staff. The only hope is to try again and acquire new everyday lineup guys. Trade Melky now that he's hot. Trade LaLob. Trade Lexi. Trade Eaton, but I would keep most of the starting pitching. It's really the team's only hope to ever contend again, to dominate on the mound and keep trying to find everyday players worth a s***.

Another Movie Theatre Shooting
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) Greg, basically you're describing a mixture of Donald Trump with the aggressive nature of Michael Douglas' character in the "white men fight back" movie Falling Down. While we've probably all sympathized with the breakfast at the fast food restaurant (why doesn't the food ever look like the pictures on the menu? I want my breakfast even though it's 10:31!) scene, perhaps threatening everyone with a handgun to get whatever you want won't work if everyone starts to do that. What if two Trumps meet each other? How will they avoid a "saving face" confrontation...and de-escalate it? From his appearance on the Scarborough show, it seems he wants to just provoke arguments over anything at this point. Imagine the leaders of Iran or North Korea did anything remotely offensive...like airing a propaganda/satire movie (The Interview crossed with You've Been Trumped). Is there any conceivable way to imagine they wouldn't be nuked out of existence? If someone shouted "you lie!" during a speech to Congress (or threw shoes at him) he'd just pull out a revolver and blast away. Is that what we really want to be teaching our children? For every would-be hero who saves someone, there are going to be ten who get themselves and a number of innocent bystanders killed. Do we want "good samaritan" laws that protect civilians who accidentally kill others in public with handguns? But you are assuming these people who LEGALLY have guns on them will do what you suggest ... lose their tempers and start firing. If so, then these law abiding citizens must spend the rest of their lives imprisoned which is not what they want. You make good points. But I dunno. I want to fight back against the nutjobs when they do these things. It's so cowardly to whip out weapons in dark movie theatres and start firing. Pisses me off. Would be nice to see him stopped before the damage continues. Tex would have shot him after the first blast of the gunman's gun.

Another Movie Theatre Shooting
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) i know if I was a millionaire, thailand would be the first place i would want to move to after a theater shooting. Because thailand is safe I might have gotten the country wrong. I'll ask him again. He did research and the country he wants to move to has absolutely no murders. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) This has been pointed out before. Greg doesn't read these posts. Crime is down you say? OK there are some figures. I accept them. But please people don't bury your heads in teh sand and say the media is over sensationalizing this stuff and it is not a real problem. Random killings are a problem! And a growing problem! You can't deny that! The media reports on this crap when it happens. Some nut whips out a gun in a dark theatre and starts killing people, yes, unfortunately people want to know a lot about the incident. There are ultimately some heroes and a lot of stories. These stories must be covered and not buried under the rug. I do wish we could stop even referring to the person's name in these stories. Just call him "the gunman" and go ahead and write about what kind of person he was, whom he was affiliated with etc, but try to not mention the killer's name if possible.

Another Movie Theatre Shooting
QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) I was just thinking most of the people I know who carry, men and women, don't do it out of fear, but out of anger. They don't want to be cowering under a theater seat praying someone comes and solves their problem. They want to stop the SOB who is terrorizing their community and terrorizing the good people. They want to stand up to the evil instead of hiding in the dark waiting for help to arrive and hoping it is in time. I'm certain there are some who are afraid of criminals and carry out of fear, just as there are people who are afraid of guns and the people who carry them. Perhaps we need better education to bridge some gaps there. Tex you are a great person and should run for office!

2015 Films thread
OK, watched the Skeleton Twins and Birdman on my computer this week since I have some free time. Is it common knowledge that Hader and Wiig can act? I'd give that movie a B-minus. Probably worth watching. Birdman ... how did Keaton not win the Academy Award? Can you do any better than he did as an actor? Did he win any of the minor awards for that performance at least? And to those who watched Birdman ... how do you explain the ending? What did it mean? Spoiler alert coming for old movie... Stop reading here if u still are to watch Birdman. OK, Birdman obviously had some powers. Remember Keaton willed that light fixture to fall off the ceiling and hit the actor on the head early in the movie and Keaton character broke some things just by looking at them. So he did have some powers and it was believable he might be able to fly. The scene with the taxi driver not getting paid, however, was an obvious ploy of the filmmaker to tell the audience Birdman cannot fly. So what was his daughter looking at as she gazed out the window? Did he really fly away or fall to his death? I would suspect he fell to his death and she was looking up happy he had escaped his demons and was now up in the clouds forever. But from the tone of the movie that isn't the correct response she would have. She was pretty emotional and wouldn't be happy her dad jumped to his death. Also, remember the last time he flew it apparently was an out of body dream like experience because the presence of the taxi driver proved he didn't fly. So there definitely could be another flying dream sequence at the conclusion of the film. I don't buy that he really killed himself on stage. I would think the movie would have ended right there had he done that or shortly after showing he got good reviews after all. The planned ending with Johnny Depp would have been really weird as well. What is the correct meaning of the ending of Birdman?? The fact it's not clear I think hurts the movie. I would say the scene with the taxi driver is telling that he cannot fly. Had that scene not been in the movie then I might be able to buy the current ending. Because of that scene I think they should have spelled out more what happened to Birdman. I would give Birdman a B as at times the darkness of the movie got annoying. I wouldn't argue with B-plus.

Attendance 2015
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:46 PM) The cell looks nothing like Kaufman, with or without fountains Inside the Cell it is the same bowl. The original upper deck was just like Kauffman (way too steep). Jerry wanted a functional park like Kauffman and he got it. For the team, it's perfect: clubhouses, locker rooms, managers offices, staff offices. For fans it's a blah place that is very acceptable in terms of comfort.

Gillaspie to the Angels for cash
Surprised the Angels are wasting their time on another Sox castoff. There was a time last year he had that sweet stroke going. But offseason came around and Gillaspie turned back into a pumpkin. Maybe with better instruction he'll be a good singles hitter to all fields.

Attendance 2015
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 05:09 PM) Just contributing to this discussion, FYI, in the book "Ballpark: The Building of Camden Yards," a rep from the HOK architectural firm was quoted as saying that JR was given the option to build Camden Yards in essence instead of what took place with the new Comiskey Park and turned it down. He was shown the plans but said no. And the rep specifically named him not another member of the organization when talking about that decision. The HOK firm designed the plans for both stadiums. Mark Reinsdorf was in love with Royals (Kauffman) Stadium for some reason and wanted the same stadium. That's what he got minus fountains. A pretty bland Cell. The Sox were mostly concerned with improving the clubhouses and offices and that's what they got. Except for die hard Sox fans most agree the Cell is a lousy looking ballpark. Great food and drink and all that but lousy ballpark.
