  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) One might classify a person who thinks "blowing up countries" is a good idea in general as well described by the last 5 words of that post. I'm just repeating stern after 9-11. I really don't want to be kidnapped and beheaded
  2. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 06:10 AM) I don't think you do know because you continue to discount that fact. I like how you avoided all the stats people put up...None of which are "advanced stats". You noted his ERA, again I'll say he has the highest ERA of any closer. You also noted his conversion rate, which is in the bottom 10. Well if somebody can continue to say Davidson would have been great this season had he made the team out of spring training and his mental makeup caused his lousy minor league season, then I can say Addy Reed would have been even better in a White Sox uniform as closer this season after a pretty good year the year before. He'd have been even better than in Arizona cause of the comfort level as continuing Sox closer.
  3. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:53 AM) I was thinking earlier today while I was taking a s*** about how a good way to quantify a teams pitching performance might be to compare total batters faced to total outs recorded in the full season, and then just comparing that figure to the league averages. You need to face a minimum of batters anyway, but how many extra PA are we allowing beyond what is necessary and how does this compare to the league average? Then just go down the list, each pitcher gets a ratio of batters faced to outs recorded, each number is compared to league averages, and we base our decisions (i.e. the Danks decision) on this. Rather than money. Anyway stats are great in theory. But you want as many useful ones as possible and you want them to be as unique as possible so you can find different opportunities in them and so on. The first 11 words of your post usurp the meat of your post and are kind of gross IMO.
  4. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:33 AM) Yes, they are consistent. They are consistently full of opinions based on emotion and use of archaic stats. This post is an example of using outdated stats. People gave up on trying to explain advanced stats to you. Then why were the stats used in the article? The reporter used them with confidence. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:38 AM) Top 100 prospect for a meh closer is always a good trade in theory. But Zona willingly made the trade. Hmmm... do they know more than Buddy Bell? QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 04:48 AM) D- Seriously? You like this trade? This is a results business. We gave up a strong closer candidate (he figured to be mighty comfortable in the role again this year on the South Side) for a guy who does not look like a prime prospect anymore. Maybe he'll be great. Did the Dbacks figure he was a strong candidate to be a bust? I happen to think a GM, if he is doing his job, at least has a closer in waiting if he trades a decent closer. I know, I know ... Nate Jones.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 11:08 PM) It got your attention. It's working perfectly. They've turned themselves into the hot rebel group and they're getting attention, assistance, and money worldwide. Saudi Arabia does it and no one cares. These guys are making a show for the cameras to get you riled up, because if you're angry at them, then anyone who is angry at the US starts supporting them. True, but geezus. This last story really annoys me. So we can be mosey-ing about in our own country and perhaps in future years some ISIS bastards in the USA or when we are visiting Europe is going to kidnap us and we have to worry about having no head in the foreseeable future. Just great. Or they'll hijack airplanes and start systematically beheading passengers. This sounds wild but I agree with Howard Stern after 9/11. It may be time to just start blowing up countries that harbor these types of people. I mean how else is civilization going to continue on with these f***ing animals roaming our world???
  6. Okay anybody who has seen any of my posts know I feel the loss of Reed had a horrific effect on this team. He couldn't close so we trotted out a number of closers who basically all failed. Some had a run of a couple good saves, then failed. Davidson at this point is a prospect who appears to be a non-prospect. He has his work cut out. I give the trade a D to D- on Hahn's resume. Why? This line from the above-mentioned article ... " As of today, 9/18/14, Reed holds a 4.13 ERA with 31 saves and an 86.1% save conversion rate." That, folks is a damn fine conversion rate and damn fine number of saves. I'd have preferred him closing for the Sox and finding two decent set up men from the number of lousy pitchers in our organization. Go ahead and fry me now. p.s. You all may hate me and/or my posts but at least you must admit I am consistent in my opinions.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 10:54 PM) Ok, but is this any better? I think anytime you don't actually hit or whip or spank somebody, yeah it's better. Although it did make me want to leave home and never come back which basically I did starting in college up to now.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) The whole "I was hit or spanked as a child and I turned out fine" crowd just needs to go away. I'm sure as kids they also didn't sit in safe infant car seats, but they turned out fine, why should kids use them now? I think most reasonable people would agree spanking is wrong. My dad scared the crap out of me and my siblings and never hit us. Yet we were scared to death of him and doing anything to piss him off. Somehow he got that across without touching us.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) Holy crap! http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/09/18/au...illing-pm-says/ What's with these bastards and the beheadings?? f***ing barbarians.
  10. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) Would you rather lie and people say he hasn't sucked this season? I'm just appalled anybody could ever say anything negative about the guy after what he meant to this franchise. I bet if somebody has a "Thank You Paulie Forever" thread after his final game, some people still will rip him on there. Like the caveat, "Paulie never did that much for me, but ... Or "I thought Paulie was overrated, but ..."
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) Because Wilkins has been awesome right... I know you hated the idea of keeping Paulie around but it is necessary to bash him every chance you get? You want the highest pick possible and you think Paulie is terrible so shouldn't you be happy when he's playing? I'm embarrassed to be a Sox fan sometimes because of the negative commends surrounding Konerko. It's like a Bears fan blasting Butkus; it's like a Cub fan blasting Ernie Banks; it's like a Blackhawk fan bashing Bobby Hull. Paul Konerko is everything right with White Sox baseball, case closed. People just wanted him to quit after last year, the first year in a long time he started a major decline. It's so simple nowadays, just retire, just quit, don't see if you can have a bounceback season. Like I've said a million times he has not embarrassed himself yet like say, Pudge Fisk did at the end and Willie Mays at the end, etc. Also as far as the people who care about draft picks, I told some huge baseball fans about people on this message board wanting the Sox to lose to improve draft stock and ALL OF THEM said, "In baseball? They care about the draft?" They laughed heartily.
  12. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 04:16 AM) the lowly Twins took two of three from the Tigers. David Price looked pedestrian. baseball is a funny game. All these highly paid players are not worthy. They are all human. The salary scale for these average ballplayers is hilarious. I'd laugh my ass off except the owners have to pass all the costs onto the fans. Sad.
  13. Those are pretty good gifts. I wonder if Paulie pays somebody to haul all the gifts back to Chicago. The equipment guy will be getting a good season ending tip from Paulie this season I'd think.
  14. As far as Green Sox saying Alexei should have been traded in July ... that would not have been such a good move. I mean some of us don't want the Sox to suck eggs again next season. Losing Lexi would truly affect the team performance more than one or two games no matter what WAR says. I mean you lose a damn fine shortstop, hitting and defense wise, and replace him with uh, nothing?, and it'll assure the Sox of the No. 1 draft pick next year.
  15. Sox were on fire offensively with good at bats on Tuesday; tonight Ace Ventura just mowed 'em down. It's the inconsistent Sox we've become accustomed to. Don't know how we entered the game with one of the top pitchers in baseball and one of the top hitters in baseball and one of the lousiest teams in baseball. Weird. The team was a little bit better this year, but maddeningly inconsistent. Too bad for KC Bruce Chen wasn't around to start the middle game of the series or they would have gotten the sweep they needed.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 08:36 PM) It hasn't happened yet and there's no such thing as a suspension at this level. With the first one I'd probably make a joke. If it started repeating then I'd clearly ask people to stop bringing cell phones in and try to identify the person with the problem (My syllabus says that the technology policy is be courteous and I won't have to do anything harsher). Sounds reasonable. Cell phone disturbances are so annoying, however, I applaud you for being able to crack a joke. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 01:34 AM) You think a teacher could conceivably be suspended for telling a student that they're rude? What kind of soft-ass world do you live in? Sure. In this PC world? If it's a state-run university? I could see little Johnny going to complain to his mom and mom calling the chancellor and saying Johnny needs his cell phone cause he's diabetic or something like that and Johnny is so distraught over getting singled out in class. I can only imagine what would have happened years ago at Brother Rice if a kid had his cell phone ring in a class with one of those nasty brothers in charge of class or the former assistant football coach running the class. It wouldn't be pretty.
  17. I see the Vikings did the right thing the second time around and won't let him play. Smart move. I can forgive the team (I guess) for foolishly making the wrong decision earlier in the week. The Vikings got it right the second time. He won't be playing again this season.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) Nope. Maybe if it's in the front row or they fail to put something on vibrate, but I just assume it's happening and figure to some extent its their loss, they have to endure the exam. What do you do if somebody's cell phone is not on vibrate and rings? That's just rude behavior whether the student is paying for education or not. If I was a teacher I wouldn't be able to stop myself from saying how rude that student was at that moment. Or is that cause for teacher suspension by the administration?
  19. There is no way Peterson should be allowed to play this weekend or the rest of the season. Now I have to endure fans making complete asses of themselves again when they give him a standing ovation. Seriously and this is serious, the man should not play football the rest of this season and I'd suspect that will happen before long. What are the Vikings thinking? Did anybody see the pictures of the poor little kid?
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) Memba when batting average mattered? 9 AL batters are hitting over .300, and two of them are Abreu and Eaton. Gillaspie still 10th at .293. Abreu and Eaton are 5th and 10th in OBP. Batting average doesn't matter yet 100 percent of all announcing teams mention it out loud during broadcasts almost every at bat and SOME barely flash OBP on the screen. LOL.
  21. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 04:50 AM) Yeah he's completely overmatched in absolutely every respect. The talent level is not there at all. Having never seen him I was hoping maybe he'd bet a Gload type... hell no. That said, it's a nice message the org is sending to the other players in the minors, kind of a much smaller version of what the Twins did with Colabello (sp?) making the team out of ST and playing everyday for them. He'll be taken off the 40 after the season so the spot doesn't really matter, but the message is definitely cool. Oh but that said I bet Buddy Bell thinks that one day he's going to be really awesome. I had a bad feeling the day Bell got all that responsibility. Not impressed with BB.
  22. Sox didn't strike out much the last 4-5 innings; their hitters had a clue and were putting bat on ball and had some damn good at bats, led by Conor and Eaton.
  23. That's all conor has to do against lefties; bat on ball and stroke singles.
  24. KC's only hope is the Sox horrid bullpen. Six outs to go to pick up a game on Detroit. Odds definitely in favor of the southsiders but we've seen the implosion before.
  25. Bella whiffs Willingham. If you are Willingham you can't take that pitch. What a dummy. Bella is trash. He could have hit that low fastball.
