  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 04:36 AM) The presence of a few non-peaceful protesters throwing some rocks or bottles does not justify the response and the demands of the police here. They are indiscriminately tear gasing people, including the media and residential neighborhoods. They are arresting members of the media for taking pictures of the police. They have been attempting to push media out of the city all together. Their first announcement before the latest round of tear gassing was a demand that everyone turn off their video cameras. And this is all in response to a community reaching the breaking point after the police gun down an unarmed 18 year old kid, shooting him in the back and letting him rot on the pavement for hours and then refusing to explain themselves. The police response tonight was horrendous. There should be some mass firings, starting with the police chief. You can't arrest reporters for doing nothing wrong. You can't throw teargas at a media crew. That's the media part of this. Also, you can't throw teargas in neighborhoods when the people aren't doing anything violent. What's more the cop who killed that kid has to be charged with murder and tried. It's just the way it is. You can't kill an unarmed person and not at least be tried for the crime. That cop should be charged soon. But will he be??
  2. I don't know why some of you guys aren't more mad at Hahn for the Addison Reed thing. I mean it's inexcusable to trade away a good closer (a proven closer for those of you who don't think he was good) when you have no closer candidates in the current organization. It's pretty bad GM'ing I think. You know, he did acquire some pieces in putting together his version of a bullpen. It's not like he didn't try. He just failed. That's what makes me shake my head at you guys giving him a free pass. He thought he was building a bullpen, but he failed miserably. It's just plain ridiculous to see all these bullpen implosions. If I was a season ticket holder, I'd surely be mad.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 04:08 AM) msnbc reporter Trymaine Lee reporting that the police had a sniper on top of a vehicle aiming his weapon into the crowd The national media has to be scrambling getting its people to Ferguson now. Wonder if they are using the local affiliates. Looks like this is one city in the U.S. with a lot of mean-spirited Barney Fifes running around.
  4. They need to clean house at the Ferguson police department. They are firing rubber bullets and gas at crowds for no reason and telling people to stop filming? This is a police state. Obama should get his ass there and hold an immediate meeting with f***ing cops and kick some ass. Get some people fired ASAP. I mean this is unacceptable. At the minimum, if I'm Obama I get on the phone with the police chief and tell him to get his act together NOW.
  5. This is really an ugly mess. I do not think cops should be able to spray tear gas on people who are in their own yards. Use some common sense, police. I mean the minute the resident tries to climb the fence to approach the police, OK. But this is excessive bulls***. Also, the cops do appear to have committed a heinous act in killing this un-armed college kid. People have a right to be outraged.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) ... But there are other players who could have provided more value to the Sox. Well, yes, you are correct there. Many other players could have provided more value to the Sox. But you are talking about a team with L. Garcia as a key reserve. This team has a ton of unfilled holes. It's not like the Sox have a bunch of prospects being held back by Paulie digging in at the plate and shrugging his shoulders once in a while. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 08:57 PM) Ya see, I can't see how you can bash Dunn like you do and say that. He's been sad the last 2 years, and years from now I will choose to forget his last 2 years. I apologize sort of ... for blasting Dunn so much. He has hit some meaningful home runs. He has. Like today's gave the Sox a 1-0 lead. That's meaningful. I will admit Dunn has won some games and had some hits that have meant something. But his entire tenure has defined losing. Not all his fault, of course, but when I think of Big Adam, I think of losing and strikeouts. I should try to think more about the big hits he's had, cause he's had some, no question. ... I simply love Paulie however. I can't help myself in that regard and I get upset when I feel that others are bashing him. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) He is here to sell tshirts and bobbleheads. He'll, the sox have giveaways every game in September for him! Great post. I need to buy something Paulie related myself. How much is an extra large jersey (hey I'm 6-foot-2 and 200 so I need an extra large).
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 09:58 PM) Absolutely, I have no idea why he keeps pitching in the spots he does. Webb has been much better this year, at least give him some high leverage spots. Ugh. Webb is as bad as the rest of them. I kind of know what you are saying since Bella is the flavor is so bad he makes you want to pick up a bat, but re-think your position please. Webb is horrific as well. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 10:30 PM) 13 runs in last 8 games for the Sox. The play at home will overshadow the fact the offense has gone ice cold. I posted this in the Abreu thread, but it will be interesting to see if he even hits 40 homers now. You've said it before. You've pointed out that Sox really don't have many elite hitters at all. Less than a handful of good hitters and the rest mediocre to poor. So we shouldn't be surprised. Get to work with a better master plan, Mr. Hahn. Avi Garcia come on down!!!
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 12:26 AM) Belisario should be cut. We have some others in relief roles that shouldn't be up with the big club, but it's too late now and we are stuck with what we got for the rest of the year. Just going to have to accept it for what t is in 2014 and hope next year is better Yes, he's the latest who needs to be shown the proverbial door.
  9. Robin Williams' daughter leaves social media because of mean comments from people. People can be such assholes when they are anonymous. The Williams suicide is so sad. I don't know enough about depression but it must be so bad. One side of me says, here's a man who has 3 kids who do love him, all the kids are still young adults, and he really, truly should be looking forward to sharing their lives as they get married and have kids, etc. It makes me think he's selfish (sort of) for killing himself. But then I think of depression and how bad it must be and how it's not his fault for wanting out of this world. The second thing is, as a human, I wonder what possessed him to walk into a room and hang himself with a belt. If he was completely sober it makes me think this was a spur of the moment decision. It must have taken him a while to die if he used a belt as a noose. He had time to reconsider and call his daughter or do something, anything. His world is full of people who didn't want him dead. My conclusion is depression must be so insidiously bad that nothing logical occurs in one's head. They say there's no suicide note. He didn't want to explain anything to anybody, say goodbye to anybody, just leave the world apparently ASAP because of the pain of depression. Extremely sad. I LOVE his standup on HBO. I feel like he's a genius. Just read Carrie Fisher's take on Robin Williams having nobody. Isn't it a dad's responsibility to have his kids in his life? Why couldn't he be totally absorbed in their lives like so many on Soxtalk who live for their kids? Is celebrity different? https://www.yahoo.com/movies/carrie-fisher-...4639993537.html
  10. Garcia is a huge piece to help determine whether this team can ever get back on its feet (over .500). If he's a great hitter, he'll be a nice 1-2 punch with Abreu. If he is another Viciedo, that's not good. Here's hoping he's a star.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) For example, if Matt Lindstrom's projected to be the closer again next season...forget selling any season tickets. I'm with the crowd who says you can't keep wasting years of Sale and Abreu in their prime. That doesn't mean sign Scherzer, Lester, Shields, Hanley Ramirez or Sandoval...but they can definitely compete in 2015 if Hahn makes the right moves and all of the core pieces (Sale/Quintana/Eaton/Garcia/Abreu) can stay healthy. Hahn has some great players and a lot of lousy ones. It is unacceptable, though, to not be able to build a team around Sale, Q and Abreu. Hawk said it all last night when I believe it was Petricka (the names are different; they all are lousy) blew that 2-0 lead. He said starting pitching doesn't matter at all when you have a bullpen like that. Sox in my opinion will not climb over .500 without better bullpen and defense. Once you improve that, you still have holes on the starting staff if Rodon isn't on the staff next year and you still need bats. I disagree with those who say Sox are near contention for next year. Still one of the worst teams in the league on paper.
  12. Bruce Chen desperately needs to face the White Sox again to maybe once again save his career. He's been absolutely trash since that last shutdown of the Sox. He's so bad and yet if he started tomorrow vs. the Sox we all know the result. Six innings. One or two runs off three hits. That's baseball for you.
  13. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 06:52 AM) Have you ever consider we don't like seeing our World Series hero look like an awful baseball player? It's sad. I'm a wrestling fan and allow me to use an analogy. Hulk Hogan was a god to me growing up, but the guy strapped up his boots for far too long and there became a point where it was just depressing to watch. Does that mean I now hate Hulk Hogan?? Absolutely not. NOBODY hates PK.. Thing is, he hasn't been that bad. He's an excellent pinch hitter and still a good defender.
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 04:55 AM) One more thing before this thread gets closed I'd like to point out. I remember you were against resigning PK for this year as was I. By any measure the Sox bench has been bad. This was created by keeping PK and creating a need to carry a very weak hitting but multi-positional player like Leury Garcia . I don't understand how some posters can be so inconsistent in their views on how the Sox are constructed ,arguing about how Hahn failed in bullpen construction but on the other hand thinking the bench is somehow not nearly as important. Carrying PK is not just a matter of the 25th man. His presence affected the construction of the entire bench. Shouldn't the outcry in this regard be as loud as it was by the same posters who said the bullpen was Hahn's fault due to injuries ? Maybe Hahn's hands were tied by Reinsdorf in this manner but the bench being bad was far more predictable than the implosion of the pen. Man, I know this is just the internet but you are one tough critic regarding Paulie. How can keeping a World Series hero, a true hero, around one more year bother you so much? We're talking about one of the worst teams in baseball in the White Sox. What possibly has Paulie done to you to feel this way? I mean yes he's disgustingly slow. So is Dunn. To think having him around one more year has in any way affected the future of this franchise is simply wrong. Paulie rocks!
  15. Good job, Gordon Beckham. You got to flip the finger at those of us who have hated on you tonight. Nice job. Sale ... the master!
  16. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 05:32 AM) Gordo's D with bases loaded was without a doubt the play of the game. Bag on his O all you want...his D is stellar. I despise Gordon, but give him credit. He won this game (along with Sale of course). If that ball gets through, Sox lose, no question about it. So the advanced stat people need to put this W in Beckham's list of advanced stats. He is solely responsible for the win (once the s*** bullpen blew it for Cy Young winner). QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 05:38 AM) I'm pulling for success of players who matter to our future. And a loss, every day. Ugh. I want a win every day. It's gonna be a long six weeks in game threads.
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 04:58 AM) Pretty much a perfect scenario so far. Sale dominates for 8 innings, and we could still possibly come away with the loss. Draft position baby! LOL. Who cares about draft position when your team gets embarrassed like that?
  18. Utterly embarrassing. Speechless at this organization's bullpen.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 11:51 PM) Maybe he should have a spot on the 25 man roster until he dies then. He doesn't want that. He just wanted one more season and actually hasn't been horrible.
  20. If any contender wants him after his first good outing, trade him. Get rid of him ASAP.
  21. I think this thread has become kind of disrespectful to a sox legend and nobody can deny his status in sox lore. I think it is making sox fans look bad but I'm all for free speech too. Anybody agree?
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) Treat your players with respect. He still gets the loudest cheers at USCF. It is good at least the "casual" fan appreciates him. Call me a meathead fan, but his overall body of work, and this one AB should be enough for White Sox fans to let him go out like he wants to go out Great post. I'm glad fans at the cell are like me and cherish each paulie at bat QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) Funny I thought this was a rebuilding year. He wasn't going to be traded so he's pretty useless for a rebuild, He's not young nor does he need AB's to develop so pretty useless for a rebuild. He's well paid, set up for life while getting to retire 25 yrs. before a working stiff. He'll get a statue most likely and he gets to go out on his terms ? Most of us would've just liked it if he didn't take up valuable space on this years roster. It has nothing to do with the enjoyment of his fine career. This was a year for youth and speed and athleticism to be served , to building for the future. Paulie contributed nothing to those things so some us question how dedicated Hahn might be to a rebuild if he can appear to not care about every spot on the 25 being used to achieve his goal. He's been extremely well compensated for his efforts. Go for a rebuild with every resource you have or I can't take you seriously. There's only so much time Sox fans will have patience for a last place low payroll team but might have a little more if they feel the effort from the front office is pure. PK already has all of what most of us have to break our backs for. He didn't have to stand in the way of progress also. Wow. Paulie standing in the way of progress? If he's so lousy, so bad a hitter, so terrible then Hahn should be fired for keeping him on the roster. Paulie doesn't write the checks. I savor every one of his at bats as much as u despise them.
  23. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 12:12 AM) I think guys like him have a place on contending teams, but Sox could just resign Dunn and not give anything up. Why in the heck would Sox re-sign Dunn? He's not been productive. If the Sox want to keep rebuilding and losing they could see if Dunn would DH for 4-5 million a year. What's the purpose though. You get 50 RBIs maybe all year? Stupid. If you are gonna do that, sign another plodder, Billy Butler for 7 million and see if he can reinvent himself. If not, he's as slow as Paulie and Dunn so we have our next plodder.
  24. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 01:03 AM) Yeah, with his history of drug abuse it is not shocking. It does suck though. His shows were some of the best. Very very sad. Just do a youtube search on him and you will find him doing standup in recent years that is dirty as hell, funny as hell. His take on golf and viagra are f***ing incredible. He cracked me up so much. His interview last year on Craig Ferguson is creative, funny, incredible. His take on bible miracles is so damn funny. This shows the power of depression and addiction. My god. This man had four blockbuster movies coming out. It's not like he was a has-been. He was HOT still. He had a 25 year old daughter. He has other kids. Depression was so great he didn't want to follow their lives and his grandkids' lives. So sad. Rest in peace. He was funny as f***.
  25. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 08:58 PM) It's hard to appreciate the good times when over the last two he's been worth -2.6 WAR. That's worse than De Aza, worse than Flowers, worse than Beckham and worse than pretty much every player in MLB. I appreciate Paul Konerko's career. I don't appreciate that he wanted to go out "on his terms" and cost Chicago both development time for a youngster and a few games in the standings. Ugh. Some of you guys want more from your heroes than I do. How many players would just up and quit after one bad season? He wanted to play another year. Big deal. The team is a last place or next to last place laughingstock (unable to win despite all the small market teams in the division). He didn't do anything to hurt the team. I'm glad people at Sox games are giving him loud ovations when he bats. Study Konerko's career stats. So it says a lot of bad things about our fan base that a guy can have a career like that and be criticized so much. So basically if one of our players has one or two bad years out of 10 and the rest EXCELLENT YEARS and he's one of the best players in our team's HISTORY, we don't like him anymore? Oh well, it's a what have you done for me lately society.
