  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) It's cute you think those kids are thinking rationally enough to care about their job future. When I was a teen I cared about my future and would not put myself in a position to get arrested like that. I'm middle class though. Maybe they are poor; who knows? I'm glad somebody (NBC) finally checked on the cops stats. Actually 78 got arrested last night, not 35 like Ron Johnson said. Now they need to go to the hospitals and get condition reports on those shot and find out who they are and why they got shot. You can't just blindly trust the police facts at 2 a.m. news briefings in the street. They also interviewed a guy who explained how he got arrested last night. He said he was driving away from the scene and 20 cops pulled he and his people out of his car and stepped on them in the street and arrested them. He claims they were just trying to drive away after the gas warnings. Hmmmm.
  2. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Dec 14, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2013/12/13/...t-in-aliquippa/ One more person that should go right in the ground without a f***ing trial. A piece of s*** like this does not deserve to breathe one more second of air. And it should be as painful as possible Pure evil.
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 06:31 AM) Greg, I don't normally even bother to argue with you as you're like arguing with a brick wall, but I have to tell you you're wrong. It's like saying "how good of a driver could ____ be?" after they get hit by another driver. You can be amazing at something, but you can't account entirely for other people. That's true, but like he pointed out, there had to be a mistake made if an unarmed guy is shot that many times. Now if the kid tried to get the cop's gun, the cop knows he's unarmed. I guess if the kid went for the gun, he deserves to be shot and possibly die. But if he shot him should he blast him five more times? And why would they let the body just rot in the street after the kid was killed? I think mistakes were made in any scenario. And this is assuming the kid tried to get the cop's gun? If this is a fact not an opinion, then the kid deserved to die, I guess. Will this ever be proven to be the real scenario?
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 06:21 AM) That's accomplishing more than looting, stealing alcohol, shooting at the police or throwing Molotov cocktails. Very true. But why would a 20 year old kid want to be arrested?? It accomplishes nothing unless they are starving and want some jail food. I mean it makes no sense. They can protest all they want in the day as long as they keep moving. They were warned. Keep moving. Good luck to them trying to get a job in the real world with a conviction on their resume. That might even be a felony, right?
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 03:10 AM) Hawk is way past his expiration date. It's really sad. Was that when Lindstrom was pitching? I don't like Lindstrom, sorry.
  6. BMags had a great line in this thread when he said: "But how good of a cop could you be if a jaywalking arrest turns into a dead kid? Surely there was some slip up along the way even if the kid was aggressively behaving." I agree wholeheartedly. My comment after watching live feeds tonight. The cops told the crowd to disperse again "or you will be arrested" after midnight and four guys knelt down refusing to move. Now what in the hell are they accomplishing by getting arrested?? Protests are fine, but go home and resume in the morning at the organized marches. They looked pretty young. If I were their parents I'd freak out and wouldn't bail them out. I mean what are the 4 accomplishing? There's no media in the cop station to interview them. The interviews are all old news now anyway.... Q: Why did you get arrested? A: "I want justice for Mike Brown." Obviously those 4 youngsters don't care that will be on their record that they got arrested for disturbing the peace or something. Very sad. It's like the kids were saying, "f*** you national guard. We are not leaving. Just arrest us." If I'm the national guard I say, "Fine. Cmon with us. Your jail accomodations will be waiting."
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 02:22 AM) You just ripped on him a few weeks ago. I almost replied, but then I thought, "why bother expending the 1.7 calories it will burn while typing my response," so I decided against it. I think I responded in a thread where somebody wanted to consider re-acquiring Rios when the Sox looked like a contender. I don't think I was vicious.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 04:13 AM) I am a fan of making a run at Melky Cabrera. I am even guessing that 4/60 to 5/75 is the type of deal we'd be talking about. I'd rather wait for somebody in our system than trying to get Melky.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) Even if that's the truth nobody will believe it in that town. You are right about that. Nobody in AMERICA will believe it either. The officer is going to have to "take one for the team" on this one and go to jail for 30 years. The people probably won't think that's enough and riot some more if it happens. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 11:39 PM) Who just so happened to be doing some kind of victory dance or celebration in the middle of the street with their $49 worth of stolen cigars. Because obviously no one else in the city would have the right to holding/carrying cigars in their hands, so it was very convenient that the officer just so happened four hours later to find those two still carrying around the cigars instead of smoking them, handing them out to friends, etc. I like caufield's posts. The last 4-5 posts anyway. Nice job. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 11:48 PM) And you sound so gung-ho to go into Ferguson and bring some good 'ol fashioned law and order...at least I presented some evidence that MIGHT exonerate the officer, if it was actually truthful. You aren't giving ANY benefit of the doubt, at all... Amen brother.
  10. I still kind of have to see it to believe it regarding the Royals actually winning the division. I guess it's possible. I can see Hosmer wrecking the chemistry when he returns and KC slumping. Will Detroit take advantage is the question?
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) If the Sox had an opportunity to sign Scherzer to a 4/100 contract they would it in a heart beat. It'll never happen. Are you serious? What proof do we have of this? Even good pitchers turn to crud. Look at Peavy this year. The minute you sign a Scherzer to that, he can tweak an arm in an instant or lose velocity or whatever. I don't care about Jerry's money and wouldn't freak if they pay him, I just don't see it.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 10:43 PM) Only $19 million next year. He's already admitted to hitting a wall and seems to be experiencing some physical/wear & tear issues for the first time in his career. So after next season, Sox could get him for 4-5 million a year for 2 years?
  13. QUOTE (The Wiz @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 05:53 PM) I feel the people who are really in support of De Aza being back are the people who really put a ton of stock in stats. On paper sure he isn't bad. But when you actually watch him play and all the little things he does wrong, he doesn't really fit into what I assume Hahn and the rest of the FO are trying to build here. I think they are gonna be looking for fundamental players who can be counted on to actually catch most routine balls in LF and not get picked off at 1b when down by a couple runs in the late innings. De Aza has tools, but he isn't developing anymore and has been one of the main reasons why it looks like a circuit act on the field occassionally over the past 2 years. A lot of these reasons are why I also feel Viciedo will be gone. I'd rather they send him packing. Stats don't lie, however, and he's been good since June. Like Wiz said he's not "developing anymore.' So bye bye.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) Don't you remember his Alex Rios hatred? He was having a 3 fWAR season with us and greg was convinced he was actually hurting the team because he didn't like his "devil-may-care" facial expressions. It had nothing to do with facial expressions. I didn't even see any of those from my mlb.com. I despised him as a player. But since he's left I've said nothing bad about him. The Dunn talk disturbs me. Don't you think if anybody wanted him he'd be gone by now? Hahn is not a dummy. He also works for an owner who doesn't like paying guys to play for other teams apparently. No other team wants Dunn on the payroll, thus good luck to him finding work next year.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) No they didn't. Sox fans are a class act just like Buerhle and Konerko That's what I was thinking, how classy the people are who go to games. I wish Mark would come back. He still has several good years left with his rubber arm and style. How many years left on his current contract? Please come back! Like Paulie said he should be finishing his career on the South Side.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) I can't speak for a cop or what their rules should be, but I can tell you what my rules are: somebody breaks into my house, they are getting a gun pointed at them. If their next move isn't towards the exit, they are getting shot. I'm not waiting to assess whether or not they may be hiding a weapon or what chance I have of taking them in a fistfight. Would you at least yell out, "Identify yourself or you are going down?" To see if for some reason your drunken uncle didn't come over unexpectedly? I like your attitude though. No thugs should be in your house. I don't blame u for shooting 'em. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) Is this your first day listening to Rush? I try not to listen to him, but I was curious about his take. Why mock the guy who died? "Gentle giant" is bulls***. Let the guy rest in peace. I don't know if anybody can prove it, but if the cop did fire a last bullet to finish off Mike Brown, that cop needs a one-way ticket to prison for the next 75 years.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 06:59 PM) You seem to know Adam intimately. Do you know what it is about him that makes him so destructive to a team's morale that they'd want no part of him? No, I simply meant performance issues. Let's say they acquire him and he goes into a strikeout binge and a 1-for-24 thing with 17 strikeouts. That's not exactly anything but buzzkill. I'm just saying if I"m a GM I don't risk it with my first place team.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) BTW, greg, you refer to Adam Dunn's penchant for doing nothing but striking out, walking, and hitting home runs and how it can destroy a clubhouse and a lineup's production while those same exact Orioles employ a guy putting up a .195/.298/.400/.698 line while striking out 34.1% of the time (147 times) and walking at 11.6% (50 times). Considering Dunn's .229/.353/.446 with superior walk and strike out rates, I'd say he's been a better player than Chris Davis this year, yet the Orioles are magically in first place still. Imagine that. Well, if they have Chris Davis why do they want Adam Dunn? Are they going to release Davis? I just simply cannot see a GM sticking his neck out to acquire Adam Dunn, whose tenure in Chicago has been a disaster. If I'm wrong I'll be proven wrong.
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) Molotov cocktails? Has anyone seen stats on how many arrests have been to out of town people? I don't believe anything I read anymore for sure, but I saw that of the 7 arrests on Fri or Sat night, all 7 were from people who did not live in Ferguson. Have no way of knowing if that was true, but it was reported. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 06:24 PM) Going back to this....this is why you don't f*** with cops. This is why you follow their instructions. At the end of the day, they will almost always have the "justified" argument on their side, whether it's right or wrong. I know that sucks for people who think the police are out to get them, and for people who are actual victims of police abuse, but you gotta win that battle in the civil courts, not by fighting the cops in the streets. I'm guessing the shoulder cameras are too costly at this point. And I wonder if the various municipalities will even want them when they become more affordable. Yes, it might save them from a lawsuit like this one, but how many more is it going to start? That's a pretty good point in your opening paragraph. When I get stopped I turn off all attitude and it's yes, no. I answer their questions. Rush Limbaugh is insensitive by the way. He's calling Mike Brown the "gentle giant," over and over mockingly. Call him by his name, Rush. Whether or not Brown was in the wrong, he was unarmed and he's dead. There are a lot of sides to this story and calling him gentle giant I think is insensitive. Rush also is upset that the community looted its own stores. This is a complicated issue. There are some thugs from St. Louis coming into town taking advantage of the situation. How the hell does Rush Limbaugh know who is looting? Finally, I think officer Ron Johnson is in a no win situation. He brings donuts to the protestors today and I saw somebody on Twitter blast him. "You think bringing donuts can stop us?" Some are calling him "Uncle Tom" on Twitter. I'm amazed that depending on the time of day he's either Mother Teresa or a bum. During the day, giving speeches and briefings, he's going to be our next President, according to people. During the evening, he's the devil and nothing he says can be believed, etc. Tough gig.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 06:08 AM) Who gives a s*** what Sale thinks. I would sign Scherzer to a 4/100 so quick your head would spin. I get REALLY excited imagining Sale/Scherzer/Quintana/Rodon in the same rotation. Just let some other team sign him at that dollar amount and shake your head when he gets hurt or turns into Verlander.
  21. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 10:53 PM) Baltimore needs a LH bat for playoff push to go with Cruz and paying Dunn 1 month salary is doable. Baltimore will want no part of Dunn. There are intangibles involved. He should be nowhere near a playoff team. Too risky. He could get in one of those strikeout streaks and buzzkill a team's whole offense. I stand by the fact he will finish this season as a Sox.
  22. This is getting very scary. Missouri national guard has been called in. The situation is so bizarre. By day, when the sun is out, Ferguson is an inspiring place. All the people love Ron Johnson, the new police chief, who gave a great, impassioned speech. Then night falls and all hell breaks loose. If you read twitter, people at night suddenly don't believe Mr. Johnson when he says outsider thugs are shooting guns, throwing molotov cocktails, blocking streets, looting. At night, they say he's lying, that the police are flipping teargas canisters at peaceable people. The problem as I see it is some of the responsible, upstanding citizen protestors who protest during the day, continue protesting at night, between 8 o clock and the midnight curfew. But thrown into the evening mix are thugs from other towns, gang members, intent on causing havoc. Looting, etc. So when Mr. Johnson reacts with teargas, now all of a sudden some little kids are getting gassed, some good people (protestors) are getting gassed. And all the people that suddenly don't believe Mr. Johnson (about the thugs causing trouble) are claiming police brutality. Personally I think the law abiding protestors should stay in the safety of their own homes after 6 p.m., and let the police take care of the criminals causing illegal trouble! I realize the good people have a right to protest. I'd say do so at the formal rallies during the day. Stay in your safe homes at night. This problem scares me as if the National Guard comes in and kicks some ass, when does this outrage spread to other cities? This situation is a powerderkeg. People are very mad in America about economic disparity and other things. I'm glad people aren't getting organized and rioting all over the country. I don't blame Mr. Obama for taking a well deserved vacation, but I think the timing was unfortunate on this vacation. What's going on in Ferguson, Missouri is a crisis and a national disgrace. Something has to be done. That cop has to be charged with something significant and fast. The National Guard ... I dunno. It might make matters worse.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) Webb has much better secondary pitches Webb has good pitches of any kind? Not a fan.
  24. It is amazing Abbatacola obviously hates Hawk after Hawk did so much for him using his name in his play by play. Kind of odd. That was a big break for Abbatacola that a Hall of Fame announcer like Hawk would use his name in his play by play regularly.
  25. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) Try reading your posts. The world has yet to end when a team moves. I'M ALL 4 IT IF IT HAPPENS! What are u talking bout? You said, "I'm all for the Sox moving to a new state, one that doesn't have MLB if it generates more revenue and it's spent wisely." You said you are all for them moving. I was horrified by that sentiment.
