QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 12:35 AM) I think our whole political system is a complete train wreck right now (just better then plenty of other places still) but I think he's a failure for the reasons our country is becoming a failure. More and more people in our country are expecting things from the government and expecting to receive hand outs and more and more of those people construe the voting public, therefor, we are getting to a place with less and less self empowerment and more and more government dependency (since you have to pan handle to that majority to win). I blasted Bush on this site for his role increasing the government and it has gotten even worse. It is an utter joke in my opinion. The republicans don't help things by focusing on what I consider to be social issues that are far less important then the broad base government bloat that is going on. I do not want to rely on the government to get me places. I rely on myself and my family. It is the same problem with society as a whole. Lets figure out what excuses to make and who to blame vs. taking ownership and responsibility. This is the post of the year. Great points. Amazing post.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 12:26 AM) I've already made that statement, although Jimmy Carter was truly awful. Everyone has short memories though so hard to say, especially in this day and era with the media. Do you think he's been horrible because of the reason I listed or do you have others?

QUOTE (gatnom @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 11:37 PM) Why exactly do you hate Obama, greg? Just curious. I despise Hillary, not Obama. In fact, I couldn't believe it but I walked in the booth and voted for Obama. I couldn't stand the thought of Romney and figured I owed it to the country to vote for a candidate. I despise the fact Obama is not a leader, though. He can't get anything done. There are ways presidents can charm Congress to get some things passed. The Obama era will in my opinion go down in history as the one in which it became ALL partisan politics and it sets the tone for the future in which no president will be able to get Congress to pass anything. It'll be the same, only worse if possible, for Hillary. She'll stand no chance to get anything passed. I just find it amusing these polls come out when we all know Obama would win, win, win if he could keep running. p.s. Obama's statements yesterday show he's given up. The statements in which he ripped Congress and just barked something like, 'pass some bills!'

So polls say Obama is worst president since WWII. This is so bizarre because you know and I know if Obama could run again he would win in a landslide again. Does it make Americans feel better to say this s*** to pollsters when they know damn well King Obama would win in the next election and again four years after that and four years after that? Obama should laugh at the polls cause he gets the last laugh ... every time he runs for office! Do you think he's worst president since WWII? Do u agree with my premise here?? http://news.yahoo.com/u-poll-more-voters-s...-122609810.html

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 12:56 PM) Now you're just lying. It's been pointed out to you that Hobby Lobby is not paying for abortions yet you refuse to listen. You said earlier you were getting offended, you deserve to be. Typical. Nobody cares if they offend people over religious issues. Thanks for the confirmation. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) I just find it hilarious that you're blaming the company for causing "pain," like there aren't alternatives out there. Exactly.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) The homerun derby is not meant to boost the morale of fans of bad teams. It's meant to showcase the power of some of the homerun hitters in the league. I'll be honest, I like it, but I usually end up only watching the first half. It has taken way too long the last couple years. I voted yes for Abreu to compete, but I'm okay with him sitting it out. If he feels that it may mess up his swing, then by all means he should sit it out. And this season hasn't been "pathetic". It has been pretty much we expected (or should have expected). Remember that this is a 99-loss team entering a rebuilding year. I'm excited to see the potential of this team. We're going to see some good stuff from Sale, Quintana, Abreu, and Eaton for a while. The way I see it is we're wasting Sale and Abreu and Q. Put some players around them, Mr. Hahn! We're averaging 20,000 fans a game. KC's soccer team averages about that.

Bless our Veterans, WTF is Wrong with America??
greg775 replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
Oh this is a really nice story ... not. Pathetic treatment of our armed forces heroes. from cnn Veteran Finally Gets VA Doctor’s Appointment – 2 Years After He Died Doug Chase, a Vietnam veteran who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2011. In 2012, his wife, Suzanne, tried to move his medical care to a nearby Veterans Affairs hospital. “It was so difficult for him to take the ambulance ride into Boston, we wanted to be closer.” They waited about four months and never heard anything -- Chase died later that year. But two weeks ago, he got a letter, from the VA in Bedford, saying he could now call to make an appointment to see a primary care doctor. “It was addressed to my husband and I opened it,” said Suzanne Chase. “I was in complete disbelief. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 05:43 AM) No HR Derby is stupid, pointless and it can't help Jose. It's meant to boost the morale of fans of last place teams like ours. Why not have some fun and make it the highlight of our pathetic season? It would be awesome if he competed. Why not? What could it hurt?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 02:14 AM) Why do Hobby Lobby's employees have to give up their freedom of religion due to the beliefs of their management? Where is your respect for the actual people who work there? Why are their religious beliefs unimportant to you? What are you talking about? The people can still get their abortions. Unfortunately for them this particular employer doesn't want to pay for the four contraceptives.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 03:56 AM) Noesi/Carroll= Angels have to be laughing how easy it was today. What a tough break having to pitch those two minor leaguers on the same day. It's almost like we conceded two games today. By my count, we've conceded three this year. Today and the day Leury had to pitch.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) Well what she did is a pretty minor offense. She put on lacrosse clothes and mocked the right wingers on her campus. She also said she recognizes that she hurt people's feelings and then voluntarily left her post. I fail to see the big deal here. Seems like another example of white folks wanting to feel like they too are oppressed. For some reason I just read the story and thought about the backlash that would happen if the races were reversed. This has to be the most pompous resignation line ever: "“I understand why I hurt people's feelings, but I didn't become president to make sure rich white guys had more representation on campus,” Peterson told BuzzFeed, which reported the story on Monday. “Let’s be honest. They're not the ones that feel uncomfortable here.” Peterson graduated from Lawrenceville, a private school near princeton, N.J., in June.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) I don't see your point, greg. It seems like they ran her out of town. She got her degree. She resigned her post as president in what appears to be about the calmest manner possible. Her statements throughout scream "me me me; I am great."

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) Call it part of the reparations she's owed. I love the part where she blows off getting fired, just says she has to be herself. And she blows it off basically saying, 'hey that's what these white guys are; just pointing it out to you.' She wears the boots, the hockey stick, Yale shirt. I won't even list the things a white person might wear to stereotype blacks mockingly. Oh my gosh, just thinking about what would happen to that white kid if he/she did such a thing scares me. Poor kid would have to move to Canada. The media would attack that person to no end. This story ... well it won't be a story. period.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) Jenks, didn't you know that corporations exist at the whim of the State and that the money they make isn't theirs to keep and use but the government's to use for it's own purposes because THEY know how to spend (your) money better than you do, and that any bit of money they are allowed to keep they should be grateful for? Come on, get with the times! Government is getting bigger and bigger (obviously) and when one more liberal judge hits the Supreme Court, wow.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:29 PM) Because actual doctors say that's not how they work. The court seems to be OK with ruling for Hobby Lobby and its belief they do cause abortions. Because it's the law. If they don't want to comply with the law because they have a certain set of religious beliefs, they are free to either not incorporate for the legal protections or to not operate a business. Nobody has actually forced them to change their beliefs. The idea that paying for health insurance plans that include provisions for the insurance company to pay for contraceptives that your employees may or may not use is some gross infringement on your personal religious beliefs is a pretty ridiculous stretch anyway. You say "it's the law." Hobby Lobby just was backed by the highest court in the land. They are totally OBEYING the law here. You say it's a ridiculous stretch. That is offensive. The Hobby Lobby owners don't want to pay for this because of religious beliefs. Why can't we have our religious beliefs? It's no stretch. If I owned a company, I wouldn't want to pay for that, either. This is becoming borderline offensive to me. Why can't Hobby Lobby owners and thousands of gregs have religious beliefs that are respected? Freedom of Religion.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) I disagree about the sincerity regarding the practices of the owners of Hobby Lobby. They previously provided a plan that covered contraceptives they now object to, and they still provide employee matching and administration for a 401k plan that includes investment options for the companies that develop and make those contraceptives. They are sincere. The Catholic church has been talking about this kind of stuff a long time and asking people to take a stand and write letters to congress people, etc.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) they don't actually cause abortions Employee compensation is not a "free lunch," though Hobby Lobby will still be getting tax breaks for providing their employees with health benefits even though they don't meet the minimum legal requirements. These people should be getting contraceptive coverage offered as part of their health benefits compensation just like everybody else does regardless of what their boss's personal religious beliefs are. How do you know they don't cause abortions? Those 4 contraceptives? I can't believe your second paragraph. How can you be against freedom of religion in this case? Why should employers have to pay when it is DIRECTLY against their religious beliefs? And what do you mean they don't meet the minimum legal requirements, when the courts just said they don't have to pay for these things they don't believe in?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) I'm sure Greg would be happy to give up his religion if his employer wanted him to. What is so wrong with Hobby Lobby owner not wanting to pay for contraceptives that cause abortions when they are against abortion for religious reasons? Yes Catholic policy is against abortion. Yes there is freedom of religion in this country. Those people can still get those contraceptives, just have to find a way to pay for them. Sorry not everything is a free lunch around here. I find it funny how in America over the last 20 years it's OK to mock Catholics and OK to mock those who believe in God good luck to you trying to mock some other groups. it's pretty sad that believers can be mocked openly by people like Maher and the general public. Let's see him mock some other groups.

So this student body president at a prep school, who is black, issues a bunch of stereotypes regarding whites and steps down as school president. She is unrepentant, basically saying, 'Hey, this is how all these white guys are.' Basically nobody will care. This story will have no legs. Can you imagine the Internet outcry if this president had been white issuing stereotypical and mean stuff about blacks? The kid would never work; the kid would pretty much be banished from society forever with threats, etc. Oprah and everybody would be after the guy and he'd be ostracized forever. This case ... yawn. https://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/blac...tml?cache=clear

QUOTE (MEANS @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) maybe some of us don't want "GOD" in our country I wish God could make a comeback. I don't know why people like Maher think it's so absurd that there is a higher power who created us. Are you atheists convinced we just popped onto this earth out of nowhere for no reason? Why can't there be a God who created everything? QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Businesses should have to abide by the generally applicable laws and regulations that apply to all businesses without being able to get around the law because of religious beliefs. It's called freedom of religion.

I wish he'd compete. As a fan I'd take my chances on him sucking the rest of the season. It will be the last truly fun event for the Sox all year, besides the game itself with Sale and Abreu.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) Attendance so far this season 28. Chicago White Sox 793,806 (39 games)...20,354 average 1. Charlotte Knights 402,723...9,589 average 1. Birmingham Barons 260,734...6,518 average Man, pitching Noesi and Carroll against a good team ... some of those Angels hitterscould have a day. The Sox are in deep trouble in both games in a hitters park. How the heck does a big market team like Chicago find itself pitching two hacks like this in a home doubleheader? Ever heard of free agency? You must do better, Mr. Hahn and Kenny. We'd probably split with a good AAA team today pitching those two guys.

Like the loudmouth O'Reilly said tonight, it is scary that four members of the court ruled against Hobby Lobby here. It's very scary four people though it was OK for Hobby Lobby owners to go against their religion to provide this FREE service. God help our country as we move on.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 04:16 AM) Have you seen him lately? He's fat right now, which is what I said. There's a lot more to relying speed than infield hits. He doesn't have much power which is reflected in his slugging percentage. His game doesn't match his body and most likely never will. His bust potential is extremely high and IMO, his ceiling is limited. Fat. No patience. Not enough power. What am I missing here? Is he really fat? If so that's demoralizing. If not WTF?

I'm no hitting coach, but it's pretty obvious he tries to blast the ball as far as he can every time to the plate. He never adjusts to the count. He swings as hard as he can and has connected only nine times. He'll probably wind up with 18-20 homers and hit .240. That's not very valuable. Get rid of him.
