How bout a grounder to the right side rather than a bunt? I'll take a bunt though.
-
Not to be overly negative but how slow has DeAza become? He would have been out had Porcello not made that horrendous throw. Watch the replay. He might have been able to set and fire and still get DeAza there.
-
Noesi is throwing BP right now. Fathom could whack a double easily off this guy.

Wow, we're really getting hurt by the Tigers' big guns.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 02:55 AM) He is what he is. If he was a good baserunner and fielder he could be a 2-5 WAR player. But, he's not, in fact he's an awful runner and an awful defender. It adds up to around 1 WAR unless he hits more than 260/310/400, and I really don't think he can. He has plenty of PA in MLB and the last 300 or so he's had zero injury excuse. At least a guy like Eaton can contribute even if he's hitting 260. Viciedo just bring nothing except his bat, and his bat isn't very good. I've also given up on Tank officially. He's a total home run hitter mentality and has five blasts in 220 at bats or so. Pathetic, really.
-
The Sox need to have Frank Thomas teach guys like Tank how to draw some walks. Tank's career batting average is really going to be awful unless he learns 'some' plate discipline. I thought Abreu's presence was really helping Tank. But Tank came into tonight at .260 with a mere five homers. A .311 OBP. I'm not giving him a passing grade for his 15 walks.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 04:00 AM) A bit extreme. The Spurs are a much, much better team than the Pacers. I despise Lance Stevenson. The Spurs for the most part share the basketball beautifully. But against the Heat they will do no better than the Pacers. If the Spurs were truly playing with a chip on their shoulder after last year, they wouldn't have given up home court. They sucked in crunch time. Like I said LeBron was great, the defense got turned up the last five minutes and Bosh hit the big shot. The Spurs looked like a normal team. They've been de-clawed. This series is over. I stand by my pick. Two easy Heat wins in Miami; Spurs probably win Game Five but I wouldn't discount the Heat there. But Heat likely wrap it up in Game Six. LeBron is special. Wade is very good. Bosh is a big timer. Heat in five or six.

There needs to be a name for Buehrle-type pitchers

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) Chris Sale, 2012-today - 68 G, 67 GS, 458.2 IP, 2.94 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 9.3 K/9, 2.1 BB/9, 0.9 HR/9, 4.5 K/BB, 11.7 fWAR, 15 bWAR greg, just...no Maybe I don't understand the term ace, correctly. Is he an All-Star and maybe even the All-Star game starter this year? Sure. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) For future reference, Chris Sale at 108 pitches, Robin is an idiot if he lets him face the next hitter if the game is on the line, let alone Mike Trout. Soxtalk would rather see Petricka face him. People are acting like the hits he had given up were rockets all over the place. If that is how you really feel, one thing is certain. Chris Sale INAA. Exactly. Keeping Sale in was the correct call. s*** happens. Grand slam. Boom. Plus, you guys won't comment on this, but Sale appears to be one of these Peavy-types that doesn't like to come out of games. Without a couple implosions like the granny by Trout, you won't get Sale to see the value in getting yanked for a reliever. I don't know why, but managers tend to leave their ace candidates in there much too late. It's happened with Verlander numerous times. REMEMBER PEAVY? Sale appears to be the same way. -
Does Chicago ever have a calm weekend anymore or are there multiple deaths every weekend? Don't blame the media entirely. These incidents are horrifying and some day a stadium is gonna get hit and the face of sports will change forever Obama is a joke ignoring the recent California tragedy. Yes violence angers me sorry

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 07:03 PM) Yeah, James Shields is definitely not an ace. Here are some aces for you currently in the league: Sale, Darvish, Scherzer, Hernandez, Kershaw, Wainwright. After that you got guys like Fernandez, Strasburg and Tanaka. There are probably no more than 10 "aces" in all of baseball at any given time. Sale is an ace? ... Not yet, folks. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) Compared to the rest of the potential field, I would not count Jeb bush out as a candidate yet. He may not interest the general voters but the people who got Mitt Romney onto the ticket were the big money people and Jeb could have the type of connections necessary to become their candidate. I definitely agree with that. Don't think he can beat Hillary, though. It's going to be weird having Bill back in the White House as First Man. I wonder if Hillary will try to stifle him if he opens his mouth a lot as First Man.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/06/08/2-pol...t-in-las-vegas/ Can't even eat at a CiCi's pizzeria without dying. What a joke. This one could have been a lot worse, which I guess, is the new American mantra. Obama needs to attack this issue. His era is going to go down as a very very bad era. And prayers for all those who died this weekend in Chicago. I assume the violence in my favorite town is continuing every weekend. p.s. Oh this is nice. Two 12 year olds stab their friend. Violence ... the name of the game. http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/two-...-times-saying-i

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 02:42 AM) Nadal -120 and Miami +160 was probably the easiest parlay I've ever made considering the value. I don't think anyone expected them to take both in San Antonio. I expect the Spurs to take one in Miami too. E: Great game by Lebron too. The Spurs are not going to win in Miami. This is just like the Indy series. These teams beat the Heat once and don't have the same WTW the second game, then before you know it, it's a crucial split. Manu played like s*** the last 2-3 minutes. Miami is going to bring it back to S.A. up 3-1. I wouldn't discount a Miami win in game Five, but Spurs will likely salvage game five, then Miami wraps it up at home. Once again, the genius Gregg Popovich shows he's just like any other coach. Scott Brooks would have gotten fried for losing this game down the stretch. Players win games. Bosh hit the huge shot; LeBron was great on both ends. Heat turned it up on defense in crunch time. Result a victory.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 7m Ventura talked pregame about Marcus Semien playing OF at Charlotte to expand versatility. Hopes he'd be good enough to handle CF if needed. Stupid. Somebody should have asked Robin if he liked playing the outfield in case he was needed out there. Sox are desperate for outfielders obviously.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 06:41 PM) IMO, it's a combination of the media's desire to treat government as a bunch of celebrity stories and the fact that everyone in government spends a huge fraction of their time prostituting themselves for money from rich people, so having contacts with the appropriate rich people gives a leg up. Oh, and the education and connections that are available to the kids of the super-rich and connected but not to the rest of us don't hurt either. Yep, great post. You are right. The media does do that. Obama is a helluva celebrity story. So are the Clintons. The Bushes aren't bad copy either. Still it's pretty sad like the poster said we have Bush/Clinton only interrupted by the handsome Obama. Now it's back to Clinton, then if the Republicans get their s*** together, it's Bush following Hillary unless Chelsea wants to run.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 08:22 PM) This is a hilarious misconception. Normal mental health treatment is spotty half the time, let alone an insanity plea that sends you to a state mental hospital prison. I toured the one in Missouri for a story and it's awful. I've heard from people that life in a normal prison would be preferred. If I'm wrong, my bad. Is the mental hospital worse than a normal prison because it's sort of a One Flew Over the Kukoo's Nest type setting? Drugs, zombie type people, etc? I think I have the right to be frustrated these mass murderers get a break because they are "insane." I think he's a murderer.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 06:27 AM) I'm just curious, for anyone out there who really likes Robin Ventura. What, in your mind, is he one of the five or ten best managers in MLB at doing? What aspect of his job does he excel in? A couple of seasons ago, I would have said he has the right amount of patience and that "player's manager" feel...but without all the baggage and unpredictability of an Ozzie Guillen. We also knew he was never going to be a great post-game interview or wizard dealing with the press/media, such an important role for modern-day managers. With how the defense and fundamentals haven't clearly improved coming off last year's debacle...and yet with new players at many position, you start to wonder if the institutional culture (outside of Cooper) needs to be changed at the big league level. If it wasn't for the fortune of bidding on Jose Abreu in the perfect offseason for him to be available, this team would be 5-10 games under .500 and foundering, with no or little help available from the minors other than Rodon (assuming he signs). I think Robin is doing a great job this year keeping this team around .500. Like I've written many times, when we are 2 over .500 he's actually a candidate for manager of the year because of the injuries and the lousy roster. Now when we dip below .500 I amend that comment a bit. I think someday we are going to learn Coop makes all the pitching decisions. I'm telling you guys, it's tough with these "aces." They don't want to come out of games. Managers, including Robin, manage them differently. They let them keep going in games. Remember Peavy? He wouldn't leave games either. Or got really pissed when he got yanked. I am pretty convinced Coop is calling the shots. I think Coop got burned tonight (with no proof). I think Robin looked at him and Coop said, 'You f***ing leave him in. He's Chris Sale.' Then boom, grand slam. s*** happens. -
Ugh. I must admit I was surprised when we led 5-0. I always assume losses when we play at Oakland and at California. Usually at Boston and New York, too, since that one road trip late Ozzie's last season I think it was when we got smoked. Or it was Robin's first season.

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 04:44 AM) Good job Robin. Great job leaving him in there. He did everything he needed to do thrue 7. You couldn't see he was done in the 7th? Please resign after the game. I can't blame Robin until the writers tell me for sure he's in charge of the pitching. I mean isn't there a good chance it's all Coop? QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 04:50 AM) Followed by hector santiago TRVR @trevorbeal_ 2m Chris Sale grabs a bat and UNLOADS in the bottom part of the dugout. Can't blame the guy! I hate when players do this. Chris is one of those guys that has a bit of an edge, right? Like Verlander and Peavy, I get the impression he doesn't want to leave games, etc. Calm down, Chris. Breaking bats does nobody's health any good.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 04:57 AM) The question was not who you'd take right now, it's who'd you choose to start an all-or-nothing game. Age means nothing That's a good question. I'd probably take Sale, with the assumption it's the healthy Sale. I wouldn't want Sale having a dead arm and having to leave after four or something. Sale is on a roll right now, though. Who knows which one I'd take in October? It might be Mark depending on the health of the two and how both are doing at the time.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 04:55 AM) I assume you put hatred in quotes because you realize that no one hates Buehrle and you're just being dramatic. It was more referring to modern 'hate' term. Haters gonna hate.
-
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 04:54 AM) it's not hatred. No one loves MB more than me. I've met him. Love the guy. I just would rather have Sale. I don't know who would hate MB. I'd rather have Sale as well at this stage, but Mark is pretty amazing. Good posts on Mark, the last 3-4 of them.
