Anybody Found The Last Couple Days Easier to Watch?
greg775 replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) I'm with you Greg. The chance of one high pick is not worth rooting for losses. Nor is it worth losing, from the sox standpoint. I wish it was. It would be an easy way out. For me the only way it makes sense is if the sox are going to suck this bad for multiple years. I notice more of the board newcomers or those who don't post a lot tend to agree with my controversial stance. -
I want Ws plain as day, pure and simple. But my stance on the matter has been well documented by me.
-
I like Lexi, but he does boot a lot of ground balls. I wonder if Sox should move Lexi to second, Becks to third and let a minor leaguer take over at ss.

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) I know I'm suppose to be rooting for the draft pick, but I kind of like seeing my team win. Amen, brother. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) People wanting Reed out as closer just don't have a case. Jones is best for a set up role. And Webb needs to prove something in the show first before being named closer. Addison Reed is so good on a bad team that it's scary. He's our team MVP by far, even ahead of Sale IMO.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 03:09 AM) Somewhere in Kansas there's a really happy guy named Greg. I did get to watch some of this at work on mlb.com. Really loved seeing Tank go deep and DeAza. Like the old days with multi home runs. Also loved seeing Garcia rope a hit. And seeing Reed do his thing again.

QUOTE (MAX @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 04:38 AM) That's not a terrible question. I can't believe my love of the Sox is still getting questioned with "troll" accusations. El Rockin is the most optimistic Sox fan ever, beyond belief, and yet nobody calls him a troll. I just praise him cause he's so optimistic. I think Dick Allen is the only one who has mentioned some of my opinions actually turn out 100 percent correct yet my haters bring up the "troll" stuff occasionally. I promise you I bleed White Sox colors. -

QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 05:19 PM) are you a troll? You ask that just cause I don't give a flip about the baseball draft? I think most of America agrees with me considering few people pay attention to baseball's draft when NBA and NFL Drafts are big TV extravaganzas. I am a huge White Sox fan who believes if we add AJP or another catcher who can hit, Abreu and Grandy, we could maybe win next year. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 07:46 AM) And want them to be forever bottom feeders? How the hell is a No. 2 draft pick going to magically make us better when in many years the No. 15 pick turns out to be a better player than No. 2? -
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 05:43 PM) Danks will be shopped, I'm sure. There's no way that they keep 4 of 5 starters as lefties next year. Especially if they want to try Johnson in the rotation. Hilarious. Just another guy an MLB team wants/needs to get rid of after signing him to a ridiculous contract. Keep signing guys to lucrative long-term deals, general managers and owners. Really makes lot of sense. Almost immediately after signing guys, teams want to rid themselves of these players. Insanity.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 11:09 PM) It was tongue in cheek because you call any player that is unclaimed an overpaid bum. But now that Paulie is, is he a bum? Or is he still going to get that 2 year deal? And trust me, he's one my three childhood baseball idols (Frank and Mark being the other two), but he's not that good anymore unless his back magically heals at 39 years old. I didn't know it was tongue in cheek so I was standing up for Paulie. My bad.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 04:06 AM) We are winning too often. Stop it please, white sox. Just win, baby. Beating the Twins means something to me, yes it does.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) I don't think Flowers can be overpaid when he pretty much makes the league minimum, regardless of how much he sucks. I just figured whatever Flowers is being paid is too much. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) Danks has been quite bad and has made a lot of money, regardless of injury. You can't account for De Aza's mistakes because that introduces a sample bias because you are simply recollecting what he has done based off you memory. Alejandro De Aza has actually been one of the Sox best players. I guess I was trying to tell Soxtalk what I thought it wanted to hear re. DeAza. I thought he was generally pretty despised on here. I don't mind the guy. Don't like his defense and/or baserunning very much.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 07:52 PM) So John Danks is earning his $13 million putting up a 4.54 ERA and a 5.10 FIP while De Aza is barely earning his league minimum salary putting up a .275/.331/.423/.754 triple slash with the second most homers on the team. Danks is coming off the injury and just getting the arm going again, so I figured he was doing all he could to earn the cash. DeAza ... I figured I better account for his incredible number of stupid mistakes/misplays this season.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 07:48 PM) Come on, man. We all love Paulie. 38 year olds with back, knee, foot, and wrist problems are typically on their way out. I just sensed some extra venom in his last few Paulie posts, kind of like me commening on Dunn/Rios.
-
I had no idea the Sox outfielder prospects were doing that badly. Those numbers pretty much couldn't be worse in most all instances.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) I did a fist pump this morning when I saw that the sox lost in a walk-off. I kind of like the way the past few games have gone. Lots of positives in SP and young position players, bullpen blows meaningless games in the end. I cussed when I saw the Sox lost in a walk-off. Painful, embarrassing season in all aspects of being a fan to those of us who don't care about the draft. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) Then we can give him a standing O when his new team comes to Chicago, as long as someone convinces that manager to let him start a game that series. Uh oh. I'm sensing somebody doesn't like Paulie very much. We'll never know how badly his injuries have been. My guess is they've been really bad. If so he'll probably retire. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) I don't know. He has shown he can come back strong from injuries. His back has been bothering him all season. If it gets right he may be able to do it. PTATC do you think if his back is killing him, he'll just retire? Back pain probably is even keeping him awake all night, right?

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 03:02 PM) Overpaid? Yes. Bum? Never. This year's team and whether player is overpaid or not.... Kepp-Overpaid. Lexi-Overpaid. Becks-Earning his money. Paulie-Overpaid. Flowers-Overpaid. DeAza-Earning his money barely (I wouldn't argue if somebody thinks he's overpaid). Viciedo-Overpaid. Dunn-Overpaid. Sale, Quintana, Santiago, Danks-Earning his money. Reed-Earning his money. Gillaspie - Earning his money (assuming he is paid very little).
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) Unfortunately that would not be an unfair summary of his production this year. Ouch. You think it's fair calling Paulie a "bum?"
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 03:58 AM) Sox a pitiful 3-9 against the middling Twins this year. Yikes. Close to 3-10. Draft positioning. Very, very embarrassing. Robin has a lot of things on his current managing resume that he should not be proud of. My gawd. Wake up, White Sox. 3-10 vs. Minnie???
-
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 02:56 AM) He hits .240 without using his legs at all. I would say he should integrate his lower half into his swing but I assume his average would drop even lower. Something he can't afford at .240. He reminds me of a college player. Unreliable defensively with an average bat. I'd keep him around as utility guy maybe. If he's starting again next year, we remain in trouble as an organization.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 09:46 PM) -Only once over the course of his entire career did Kingman have an average over the course of a full season under .200. -He played in the postseason in his 1st season in the majors. He never did again. -Adam Dunn walks approximately 400% more than Dave Kingman did -Kingman ended up with 442 homers at the age of 37. It's certainly not likely, but 5 more seasons of playing could lead to Dunn ending up with 600 homers. Ultimately, Dunn is going to end up as the "Fred McGriff" of this generation as a guy who hit a lot of home runs and was generally a pretty good player but was never good enough for the Hall no matter what his final numbers indicate. It'd be interesting to walk up to a fan at the Cell and do a word association. Other ballparks, too: "When I say "Adam Dunn" what comes to your mind?" I'd utter something negative. Yet here people are pointing out he has moderate HOF numbers when he's done playing. Interesting.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) Only on Soxtalk would there be a serious conversation about Adam Dunn's HoF chances. It'd be like putting Dave Kingman in the Hall. Kingman was the same as Dunn wasn't he? Pathetically bad for stretches with a ton of K's? Then he'd get hot and blast some bombs. Like Dunn, Kingman never played for a playoff team did he? Also didn't Kingman have years where his average was under .200 for a long long stretch?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) This is a little bit putting the cart before the horse, but its amazing that in this day and age people are still mixing alcohol and painkillers. Its one thing to purposefully kill yourself, its another to just be stupid about drugs. With all the people on prescription meds for anxiety, depression ... is it OK to get completely drunk 2-3 times a week when you are full of those type of meds? Let's say you are on all sorts of anxiety stuff and high blood pressure medication and yet you drink like a fish. Could you just up and die one night?
