  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 03:11 AM) Garcia struggling to get lift, but he took better swings in that AB Should be interesting to see what he hits the last several weeks of the season. He's going to get plenty of at bats.
  2. Paulie with a base hit to right. I still think those who think Paulie will retire after the season are mistaken. He's stunk, but not been completely embarrassed this year. If he hits between .240 and .250 wouldn't you think he for sure will want another 2-year deal? I would think he'd want to stay in Chicago. If he signs with another team and truly is finished, that would be mighty embarrassing for Paulie. He would have to have extreme confidence in his not being washed up to go to another franchise I would think.
  3. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 06:06 AM) I'd say old news. We text very casually, like a conversation every couple days, but I'm always the last one to reply. But she is definitely doing a great job of removing herself from getting too close to me, because I haven't seen her in 2 weeks now today, and probably won't unless she changes her mind at some point. But got a new story that probably won't go anywhere, given that I am going back to school in 5 days. I can't remember if I mentioned the old coworker from Chilis w/ having a sister that apparently was all about me, but I went in to eat on Friday and met her. Her name is Victoria. Her sister (the one I've known for a couple years) is Alex. Alex introduced me to her sister and said "You should chat her up, she'd love you". So I said "Whatever, I got a week, let's see what happens". I text Alex that night saying "Hey, your sister is cute, you guys should come to my buddies bonfire tonight". But they were both closing Friday, so they didn't come, but I was texting Alex all night until 2 am on Friday, and then a little bit yesterday, and then some more today. So I guess at this point I'd take either sister. Alex is a f***ing babe, I mean SMOKIN hot. Victoria is decent, a little thicker, but the good news is she looks like her sister. Got 5 days. I'm definitely not getting emotional attached to either, but I'll def. try a change of pace and get some strange out of this before I go back, why not? PS: To avoid any confusion I didn't say the "whatever, I got a week, let's see what happens" part to Alex, I just meant I was thinking that. I think my exact reply to her was "Oh yeah?". Good for you, chili. Good luck in your pursuit.
  4. Chili, what's the update? Are you two old news or ?
  5. I can't believe we swept the Yankees. Sox continue to be a bucket of suck. 3 of 4 to Twins in the Cell. Hilarious. To Robin and all White Sox coaches: You are sure doing a helluva job with this team.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 12:39 AM) scratch out easily from "can easily be contenders again next year" and I'll agree...IT'S POSSIBLE, but certainly not going to be easy by any stretch of the imagination even with "bad" Verlander and closer problems and Peralta-Gate, nobody's going to touch the Tigers again We had a good nucleus in 05 and didn't do squat ever again. Suddenly the Tigers are going to continue to win the division every year. WTF? Why don't their talented pitchers suddenly suck a year or two? Why doesn't Miggy pull a Pujols? Disappointing that we are the laughing stock of this division. Head to head we struggle against all division teams. Get your act together, White Sox.
  7. Caufield, think word of mouth will help it? I know I want to see it.
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 05:12 AM) Adam Dunn is no longer waiting for walks and has become a very good hitter because of it. Great atbats all day today. If he's a very good hitter why doesn't any other team want him? Still isn't worth the money apparently.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 12:48 AM) Well, just for the record, as much as I never liked Dayan, I like what I see out of Garcia. He'll probably never be an absolute stud because of the aggressiveness, but I think the Maggio comparison is a good one minus the plate discipline. He does have a bit more speed than Magglio had though. You mean he swings too hard to be an absolute stud? Or what are you saying? If he's known as Little Miggy he should copy Miggy more.
  10. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) If the Sox could sign McCann and Morneau and put together a few bullpen arms they could be a contender next season. The problem is convincing them to sign with the Sox. Now that's a helluva post. We're Chicago. Why not??? This excites me.
  11. Go ahead and blast me, but why didn't we pick up this Maxwell guy the Royals picked up?? He reminds me of a very young Jermaine Dye.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) Countdown until declarations that he's finished underway. I'd feel better about all our young players in the system if I had confidence in Manto. Like Tank. WTF is his approach all about? Can't they correct it?
  13. We could sign AJ for a year at catcher. What will he cost? 3 mill? That could fill that hole for one year at a very cheap cost. We already have a new rf and new ss. I fully expect we dump Alexei and move on from there. We need a 3B with some pop desperately.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) The Sox would have to be 7 games worse than the Astros over the last 48 games to get the first pick. That's not happening. The Sox are getting the 3rd pick next year. Once the Marlins shut down Fernandez, they'll lose more and get the 2nd pick. I figure the Sox will win 30 percent of their home games and only win 20 percent of road games the rest of the season. Where will that put them?
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 01:42 AM) This "blow it all up talk" is beyond ridiculous. We have a young, cheap, championship-caliber rotation in place and for a long time. Big market teams don't go full-rebuild when they already have the hardest part of a team built. That's just f***ing stupid. Obviously building an offense can't be done overnight, but it can be done over the course of 2 offseasons IMO. The key is developing Garcia, Semien, Viciedo, & Phegley next year. That should be the priority. Also, use 2014 to see if Beckham & De Aza can be part of the future core and either lock them up long-terk deals or move them at the deadline. And don't be afraid to make smart free agent signings, especially at positions of need in the organization. I really think Morales could solve our 1B problems on a 3 year deal until Barnum or another candidate is ready. If 2014 goes well with the young guys, then you look to use our financial flexibility to add another key piece or two. There are actually some good 3B that will be free agents prior to the 2015 season. On top of that, guys like Thompson, Jacobs, & Sanchez may be ready to contribute. Point is we don't need to blow it up to rebuild our offense. We just need to be patient with the young hitters we already have, find creative ways to add talent (young non-tender guys with upside, prospects coming off bad years, etc), and be savy buyers in free agency. It won't be easy but it's definitely doable. Hahn mentioned his current pitching staff is what he wants to build around. You better believe he recognizes he has some pitching and doesn't sound like a guy who will dump that pitching. He made it clear the pitching is a strength. I think Hahn will "blow up" the everyday lineup but won't touch that starting pitching. He didn't mention Reed or Nate, but I'd be shocked if he traded those guys as well. He mentioned some coaches' contracts running out. I do hope he dumps some of them. I hope Manto's runs out.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 04:37 AM) My point always is that while Peavy's competitiveness is great, so far historically he has struggled in the few "big games" he has pitched in. It's only been a few times, but he hasn't done well. At least he was better in Chicago than in SD. The stat nerds (I say it lovingly) will get on me for this I'm sure, but Jake Peavy has been eminently hittable in many many games, including tonight's. Mark Buehrle in his Sox prime was so so so much better than Jake Peavy! I'm not a Peavy hater. I loved his bulldogishness (the times he refuses to come out of games, et.all) but Jake is not a maestro.
  17. The Hahn inteview was good. I forget his wording but I did like early on he referred to this "disaster" of a season or something like that. I like the fact he matter of factly referred to this season as you or I would: disaster, monstrosity, putrid. I forget the word but he said a "fan" word indicating this season has been horrific. I like the accountability/realism. He does not seem at all like he has a big ego. He seems like he knows how to run a team. Does that mean he'll get it done? We shall see. It takes some luck, too. Like A. Garcia. Great great prospect. But could he flame out? Of course.
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 03:35 AM) This Hahn interview with Bernstein is pretty damn good. I'm going to listen to it now to put me in a better mood entering the weekend.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 03:32 AM) Seeing a lineup like this tomorrow would at least keep me interested: ADA Beckham Alexei Dunn Konerko Garcia Gillaspie Viciedo Phegley I agree that should be the lineup. Put the three automatic outs at the bottom of the order and hope for the best one through six. I do like Phegs' potential but he needs some instruction still. Seriously, is this manto guy qualified?? Not bagging on him, I just want a GOOD hitting coach to help out Phegs/Garcia/Viciedo/Danks.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 03:28 AM) Was it 06 or 07 that the Sox lost a DH to Minnesota at home like 20-10, 12-0? I was there, it was much worse than this. I thought we learned how to beat Minnesota. I guess that was just a one-year respite from the agony annually faced when we play the Twinks.
  21. Again, it doesn't matter, but why give away the game bringing in Axe? Do we have any young arms in the minors to replace Tronsoco/Veal and Axe? I hated Thornton but I guess I'm getting what I wished for in wanting him gone, having to watch Axe blow it so often. Sox are going to have to rebuild the bullpen except for closer and main setup guy in Nate. Time to make some of our great starter candidates bullpen guys for a few years??
  22. I wonder why more guys don't bat like Harold. He had decent power and didn't swing real hard. Nice running, Garcia! Good job, sir.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 03:20 AM) This is the most ridiculous move you can make anymore. Why is Axelrod brought in in these situations let alone still with this team It seems stupid to bring him in to immediately ruin what has been a pretty good game. Bring him in earlier to lose the game. Why do it in the ninth or extras of tie games? Like somebody said here, it's like putting it on a tee. Tru though that Veal/Tronsoco stink too.
