8/9/13 Sox v. Twins Day/Night DH

Not that it matters, but it's hard to lose a DH to Minnesota in your own ballpark. This rebuild may take a while. -

Haven't Hahn and Robin and Coop seen enough of Axe? It doesn't take a genius to see he's not big-league caliber. -

Back to the independent league. No use for this guy in the big leagues. None. -

Oh no. Axe is in. Once again, team works hard only to give it away in the 10th cause of Axe. Just my prediction. Trouble is brewing. -

Josh's on base percentage isn't very good. Hope he's learning. -

Woulda been nice to get the leadoff man on base, instead a weak fly ball. -

QUOTE (mike89128 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 03:03 AM) Perfect example of the frustration felt by Manto and Baines. Five hittable balls, and he overswung on everyone of them. The guy is regressing big time. That's what frustrated me there so much. Those pitches were all hittable like u said. -

Who is Detroit's hitting coach? We could use a disciple to work with Little Miggy and Viciedo. Pls. fire Manto. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 02:59 AM) What's your take on Viciedo? Here is a guy that looked like he had finally figured it out last year and this year is garbage at the plate in my opinion My take is what Fathom said and what I just said. He needs to be reborn/remade. He's a very very bad baseball hitter right now. -

That was a bad at bat by Tank. Hope he learns how to hit the next 6 weeks and starts out strong next year. Can't somebody teach Tank how to hit?? If not Manto bring in somebody else to work with Tank on developing an approach up there that doesn't require him trying to hit everything 600 feet. -

That should be a base hit. If they are gonna play in the outfield, Dunn deserves a hit on that! -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 02:49 AM) Thornton Marte Hermanson Ah Marte and Hermanson. I loved Hermanson. He could get you a full inning of perfection. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 02:46 AM) Is the radio feed giving you these facts or is it the Internet. One barely breaks 90 the other sits in the mid 90s. Sure Mark Buehrle looks a lot like Chris Sale as well. I meant in terms of the ball being meaty up there begging to be hit. -

Remember Barry Jones? Was that his name? Is he the last truly reliable setup man we've had on our Sox?I can't remember our setup guy in 05. -

Lindstrom looking a lot like Axe. 2-2. -
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) Don't look now but he's hitting .226 for the season. All of a sudden those numbers are looking more and more respectable. Excellent point. But too much money for the reality that is Adam Dunn.

Best wishes for Alex Rios in Texas.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) Rios has never been considered the complete clubhouse cancer and general f***bag that Guillen was though. Not really fair. Fair enough. I mean your argument being fair enough. Rios has never been called out as being a dick like Guillen. You are right there. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:19 PM) Greg we dont care about the Royals, Royals players, KC, anything royals related on this site. The only time we care is when we face them or in the all about competition that is the AL Central. Every conversation brings in some random Royals comparison, some internal poll of the good people of whatever city you live in or where you work. No one cares. I haven't been able to come up with any other player to compare Rios to. It's not often you can point to tangible signs of laziness on the field. People have asked me why I despise Rios so I answered finally. There aren't many guys with that type of reputation. I love the one scout calling him a 5 tool player. The ship has sailed on that. Look at his career numbers.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) Oh enough. You've proven you cannot be anything close to objective when it comes to Rios. I'm saying I like the trade and like Hahn. I wish you'd read my takes closely and not just get lost in my utter dislike for Rios. Now, Alexei is next to deal. I'd expect we get 2 prospects, hopefully at least one is a real good one. Lexi is not getting any younger. Already the pop is gone in his home run stroke apparently. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) Did Rios sleep with your mom and/or sisters, Greg? I just think he's Jose Guillen II. Has a lot of talent and very very very little desire. I don't like players like that.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) I don't know, but Rios is owed $17m, and picking up the entire tab would still leave us with a small market payroll next year and would have gotten us a better prospect than Eduardo Escobar 2.0. I can't tell you was available, but it isn't unprecedented. Off the top of my head, the Mets paid Beltran's salary to send him to the Giants for Zack Wheeler. With all due respect, Rios is a different kind of cat. Being that Stone said he's loafed since he got to Chicago and EVERYBODY in baseball knows it (scouts), I'd bet Jerry would rather be tied down and whipped than pay Rios' salary for another team. I bet it killed him to pay $1 million. I think the Sox got a great deal. They got a guy ready for the bigs at 22 and only had to pay $1 million? Success. You can't judge Hahn on a guy like Rios. s***, Rios didn't make Hahn's job any easier when Robin had to yank him from a game during a period of time TONS of scouts were in the stands to assess Rios. Bye bye Alex. Don't blame Hahn.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:35 PM) They should be prepared to tank the next two years, at minimum, now that they've traded these two, with Dunn and Konerko out shortly and Alexei on the wrong side of his career. The problem is they're unwilling to commit to doing so. Hahn's trying to get the most he can from teams despite not being able to send any money. I think they are committing to it. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:35 PM) Good post. It is weird to see the kool-aid drank here since this trade does little to nothing to help either side of the spectrum, the rebuild crowd or the retool crowd. We will see what the plan is this offseason. How can you say that? Sox have already got a new young rightfielder. If he's good, he can have the job 10 years. We just got a shortstop who has been in the big leagues at 22 and could take over tomorrow. That's 2/8 of a rebuild on the diamond and we haven't received our return for Lexi yet. We traded Thornton who is on the DL and close to being finished for another young slugger in Jacobs. Sox are getting a body for Crain and 3 more prospects in Peavy deal. Now if A. Garcia is crap, ugh. We shall see. Still six weeks of baseball to be played.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:57 PM) The Sox may not have Garcia on their roster the rest of the way. He's likely a PTBNL because he's already on Texas's major league roster. He'll have to pass through waivers to the Sox to be traded. It's possible the Astros could be nice and just let him through, we don't know yet. This is not good. L. Garcia sounds like a legit prospect. I'd think the Astros would claim him. Why not? Another cheap body in the system??
-
L. Garcia played in the bigs this year already. Should Sox dump Lexi now and have both Garcia's in the lineup the rest of the way? That'd be quite a switch already. Two of the eight position players replaced in the same season with young guys. That's 2/8 of the rebuild already done.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:30 PM) I would love for Texas to be terrible next year to see what they get for Rios. Interesting. For all we know, Texas will try to trade him this winter or at next year's trade deadline just as the Sox would have tried to do. If he's ever going to have a career year it'd be next year cause he'll be playing for a contract. I won't second guess Hahn on this one. He's gone. Sox got a decent prospect and got rid of all that money.
