  1. Go ahead and mock Hawk's TWTW all you want, but we need some Torii Hunter's on our team. We need some AJP's on our team. Mock away, but we need guys who give a s*** and are gamers. If you don't believe TWTW is important, I feel YOU ARE WRONG. I'm hoping Grandy is like Hunter in that he cares. If he's healthy he's a step in the right direction. Sign him as a start this offseason. Sign AJ as well as a part-time catcher/bench coach.
  2. I've almost forgotten what it's like to have my favorite team even be .500. Man we've lost a s***ton of games since September of last year.
  3. As far as managers, I feel the Sox have had no sense of urgency for the past many years. We'd hang around .500 (before this disaster of a year) and always look at the calendar and said we'd have plenty of time to get hot. Remember all those games we blew last year in an attempt to put some distance on Detroit? Then at the end they smoked right by the Sox who finally had their awful streak. Now this year we dropped game after game until two weeks later we were out of it. Now it just snowballs. No pride. No nothing. Just losing. Sox have a lot of problems. I just don't get how somebody on a message board can give Paulie 75 percent of the blame and a manager 1 percent.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 05:10 PM) Ventura got way too much credit for last year's success and he is getting way too much criticism for this year's failure. This is a poorly put together baseball team. They all played above expectations last season. That was unrealistic for this year. A lot of these players are the same players that have been here for multiple failures. The White Sox have had 1 playoff appearance and 1 playoff win since 2005. That's not the manager's fault. The White Sox have players that don't get on base and they aren't hitting homers. Now, I hate how many outs Ventura gives away for no apparent reason but other than that this team is so flawed that I can't really blame him for much else. What do you mean he's catching too much criticism for this year's failure? I don't see him catching any grief for this year. He's been exempt. My guess is because he keeps his mouth shut for the most part, unlike my fave Sox manager of all time.I personally like him for calling out the lazy Rios, but I still think he's somewhat to blame.
  5. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 05:54 PM) Yea. 1% Robin 74% Konerko not being the Professor... 25% complimentary pieces being atrocious. (Hahn/KW/FO) Cmon. 74 percent on Konerko? 1 percent on the manager? OK, that proves managers do nothing. Might as well let some Soxtalk poster have the job. Konerko can't hit anymore, but he doesn't deserve 74 percent. Wow.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 08:56 PM) George Brett quit as hitting coach nearly 2 weeks ago. I know, but he turned around the team while he was there. The Sox just sat back and kept losing.
  7. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) Um... Let me clarify.... It's not easy to see the Sox lose... but really at this point, hoping for the best possible draft position is the only choice. Our team sucks... wanting them to lose is really just something called ACCEPTANCE. Eases pain. Makes something difficult fun and comical. Acceptance? This is a sport where one's favorite team plays every single day almost from April til October. I'll never accept losses and getting owned by the Cubs and teams in our division. I hate them all and want to WIN. I won't accept defeat. If it eases pain of some to follow the inning by inning fortunes of the Astros, go for it. I'd prefer not getting embarrassed every time we play a Central Division team. Four-game sweeps are a joke.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 03:44 PM) Losing 100 games and getting Rodon is better than 92 games and someone else. It's not draft loving, it's recognizing the best opportunity to get talent. Acting like any of us enjoy this season is asinine. Yet the Sox are still in a better spot than the Royals. Sorry, nobody will EVER be able to convince me the Sox are in better position than the Royals this season. The Royals are .500. We are 30 below. It's been agonizing. And as far as No. 1-3 draft picks. Yeah they've really helped the Royals the last 25 years. Do you have a crystal ball on Rodon? He could suffer an injury and never pitch. You just never know. Besides if we're picking that high, some of us might rather have a stellar HITTING prospect. I'd rather win and just take the best player available. I just think it's very dumb to write reports of how the Astros' game is going on here. Who gives a s*** about the Astros' rally in the sixth inning of some game? Not me.
  9. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 04:25 AM) Again, who would want him? What would you expect him to bring in a trade? He's an average-at-best hitter with no defensive position... We're stuck with him for the foreseeable future, so let's hope he can show some improvement. I wouldn't want much for him. Trade him for a big leaguer who is struggling and needs a change of scenery and one prospect this offseason.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 04:45 AM) Houston lost. (my god their bullpen is terrible, there's no way the sox are worse than that team) I guess on the bright side is Minnesota won, cause they were starting to suck alot as well. Separates them a bit from the pack. You draft lovers have it made. You can still enjoy the rest of this pathetic season. A few of us are in misery on a nightly basis over the Sox results since we do not care about the draft.
  11. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 04:29 AM) Nobody gives a s*** about your Royals. Gee, sorry I can't make a comparison. They brought Brett to the dugout and they got to .500 and now are 2 over. We got to .500 and have lost about 90 percent of our games since. Shoulda brought Frank in in a similar Hall of Fame move to re-energize the team IMO.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 01:14 AM) They need to stop playing Keppinger I wish the Sox had better talent evaluators. Can't they project when players are apt to go on the decline? Keppinger is one big bust.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 06:01 PM) Not sure if these two examples were in the same game, but Ventura did use Septimo instead of Veal once to face Fielder (who had no chance vs Veal), and Prince homered. Then, with the Sox making a furious rally off of Benoit, he asked Youkilis to bunt which resulted in two poor attempts and strike 3. I was saddened 2 games ago when Hawk said none of this is Robin's fault. OK, I love Hawk, but Hawk consistently said we had a good team up until the all-star break. So I guess Hawk is blaming the players and only the players for this pathetic play. Hawk was so adamant it was NOT Robin's fault it made me embarrassed to be such a Hawk homer that I am. Cmon Hawk. You love Robin, but he's manager of one of the biggest embarrassment teams in Sox lore. This team blows and yes, part of it is Robin's fault. Maybe he blames Manto and Coop. The players can't be the ONLY reason this team blows.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) Seems like a good enough way to get all of the young guys at bats. In the "we might win next year if everything goes right" scenario, we are much better off with Dunn at DH than at 1B I'm glad you said "might win if everything goes right" because when you are 30 under .500, it's tough to immediately become a .500 team the following year. I personally think we are going to stink for a while. We need some amazing acquisitions and these acquisitions have to play well (that means you, Grandy and whatever catcher we pick up). QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 02:47 AM) Get used to it first base is Tanks future home very soon. Dayan at 5-11 just doesn't look like a first baseman. He also may be a candidate for a "change of scenery" trade. He's not cutting it as a White Sox.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) Please for God's sake stop trying to make Frank the hitting coach. Please. Please. Please. It's too late now. The Sox just did nothing but lose, lose, lose. No changes. I meant a figurehead coach like Brett/Thomas if Sox weren't going to fire Robin. BTW. Why does nobody criticize Manto this year? Walker was basically ripped on a daily basis.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 09:20 PM) Settle down folks. Don't tell me they are losing on purpose or have no pride in themselves. We ain't good for sure but there are other factors in play here You remain the best fan in White Sox history. I remain one of the worst cause I prefer to blast this joke of a team for its ineptitude. Day after day, loss after loss with nobody accountable. At least the Royals brought in Brett to turn things around. If we weren't going to fire Robin we could have brought in Frank as hitting coach. Just to have him in the dugout like Brett. Brett was a figurehead for KC. He stuck around two months and at least it was a change. The Sox?? Nothing. I can't believe how bad this team is. Sox are losing home games at an alarming, alarming rate to go with the automatic road losses. EMBARRASSING!!! Fire somebody at least!
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) I guess I'm just not sure that Manto is what "turned" Dunn into our best hitter. I would be more inclined to believe that were it not for that whole "get more aggressive" experiment we had in April that was a total disaster. Dunn got productive when he went back to being his old self. It says a lot of negative things about our players and coaches if Adam Dunn, the guy nobody else in baseball would take, is our best hitter.
  18. Did Hahn say the word "embarrassed" in the interview? I'd like if he said they were all embarrassed at this year's product.
  19. This has to be the worst team I've ever seen play baseball. Blowouts, close games. They'll always find AWTL (A Way To Lose). You think the'd be sick of all these losses to teams in their own division the past few years. This team obviously has no pride. Amazing how much money some of those guys make. I guess they feel it's owed them because they are great individual players. So many guys are stealing money.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) You're right greg, maybe everyone here should try to post what you want to read. No biggie. I'll get used to the posts rooting for the No. 1 pick. I just see it as kind of dumb considering the fact picks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 to me are about the same.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 04:48 PM) Yup. Seconded. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 05:41 PM) People get sick of each others s***. Its the truth, nothing wrong with it. Do you think if not for the existence of children most marriages would ultimately end in divorce? That's it just natural the two people would "get sick of each other" for lack of a better phrase and would split? That the children help the bond between the married people and in effect keep the 2 together and in love? Or do you feel there's a magical bond between married people and they are together forever? I think I told you about my one friend who has been married 5 or so years. He continues to cheat big time. He flew a stripper to Vegas and she stayed with him for 2-3 nights. He remained 4 more nights with buddies who came out to Vegas to party. He also has a pseudo girlfriend or two in Texas. He's not close to getting caught and he insists he loves his wife and will NEVER leave her. They have 2 kids. He also goes out alone one night a week in town here and tells his wife he needs to do it cause of his stressful job. He's had some girls in those situations as well.Is he scum? Does he have a sexual addiction problem? Or is he just a guy who does what he wants and gets away with it cause he makes huge money? He's good around his kids BTW and treats his wife well at all times when they are together and speaks highly of her saying she is the best.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 08:06 PM) That's nice. One of the great things about Soxtalk is the minor league coverage. People come here to learn about prospects and with this team being as awful as it is, a number of us are excited to get a premier talent into the organization to help the team be good for years to come. It's not difficult to comprehend. There's also a great future Sox board which I rarely check. Some fans (the baseball draft is a snoozefest IMO) don't see much difference between the first pick and the third or fourth. I'm tired of the jokes about getting the No. 1 pick like you guys are of me blasting Rios.To want the team to lose and to mention the season ending series with Houston like it's a big deal is pretty strange to me. I care about the games in August and September not the draft. Even Strasburg, the great American hero, has been human. No one pick is going to excite me that much.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 07:07 PM) Look up and down the lineup and look at the OBP's these guys are putting out. Who the hell could possibly win with this s*** lineup? The defense and miscues, sure we have every right to be mad at that, but I don't know how to evaluate that since RV did a hell of a job last year on the fundementals and I don't know how it could all go to s*** so quickly. I'm just perplexed and think this has more to do with the fact that when we went into the tubes, the veteran leaders kind of just gave up and thats why I think it is nice to move someone like Rios, etc, and kind of clear house. I'm just assuming things though. I'm not in the lockeroom so I have no earthly idea what happened, but sometimes, when s*** goes bad, it stays bad till you can hit the reset button in the offseason. All I care about is the development of our young players and both Beckham and Viciedo have taken steps forward and our young arms have done a good job. That is what gets me excited. Now its about finding more young talent to go with them and then supplementing that with some solid veteran leadership and presence. I'm perplexed too. That's the word I got out of your post. Even in the rare games we compete like Games 2 and 3 vs. Cleveland, suddenly our bullpen implodes and we lose late. Reed gets bombed yesterday. Then Sale finally has a horrible game today, the offense musters about 5 hits and we get boatraced again. Frankly I don't see how they sell 1,000 season tickets for next year. If things don't change drastically we'll be out of it on April 30. I guess I'm going to assume our sudden lack of power ruined the offense completely and the pitching is great on paper but some nights actually sucks as well.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 07:57 PM) I think everyone is half-joking. Those that aren't are just looking for a silver lining. Is there anything wrong with that? You should stop accusing people of wanting the team to be bad, because it isn't true. Everyone here wishes we were contending. If they are joking, fine, but the baseball draft is boring to many fans out there considering it takes 4 years for the players to even make the majors most times unless it's a college guy. Often the college guys flop.
  25. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 07:44 PM) Joke is on you Cleveland you will win nothing this year whereas we are headed for that Big Draft Pick in the Sky I have a suggestion. Open a thread where people can root for the No. 1 draft pick and cut their little creative jokes about getting the No. 1 pick. Do that and keep it out of all other threads and I PROMISE I will not mention Rios' name again this season. The No. 1 draft pick talk is embarrassing for those of us who don't give a s*** about that.
