QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) Somebody needs s*** canned for this crap! It's difficult to be this bad. With Sale sucking today you have to wonder what is going on. Sox may be in line for a historic amount of losses because they CAN'T win at home and the road defeats are pretty much guaranteed. Poor Robin. This season he looks like a guy who is totally overmatched. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 07:44 PM) Joke is on you Cleveland you will win nothing this year whereas we are headed for that Big Draft Pick in the Sky You guys are ridiculous with this draft talk. It's embarrassing IMO. I was telling a group of sports fans about this board and how Sox fans are all excited about getting the No. 1 pick and they laughed their asses off. Who cares about the baseball draft when our team is shockingly terrible? I'm sure Cleveland fans feel the joke is on them after sweeping us again and being a game out. I love you Jose, but that's grade school.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 07:20 AM) I know it's beating a dead horse with you but... Rios has a ton of value to other teams as well. I just saw that he hits .315 vs fastballs after hitting .361 the previous year. If you put Alex Rios in front of a really good hitter he's gonna see more fastballs and he's gonna be very productive. He would look really good in front of Beltre in Texas. At this point Dunn, while still dangerous, isn't a guy an opposing pitcher is gonna say "Oh man I better not mess around with this guy with Dunn on deck" Cmon, isn't it obvious after this trade deadline thing nobody wants to pay Rios and certainly nobody is going to claim him and pay the full amount of his remaining contract? Rios got 6 fricking hits in a game and still nobody wants to pay his full contract. If somebody truly valued Rios, he'd no longer be a member of the White Sox. Agree??? I would say if I were a GM, and wanted to overlook his reputation of being disinterested at times (how's that for a nice way of saying what I'd really like to say here) I think a fair salary for Rios now is about 3-4 million a year. Obviously teams agreed because NOBODY made the Sox a decent offer for him at the trade deadline.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 06:23 AM) Perhaps, but if you're going with Morneau you're not gonna have one of Tank, Dunn, Rios, De Aza, or Garcia in the lineup and they all play a huge role in my dream. De Aza because we need a leadoff hitter. Rios because I think he's smash in front of Cano Without Dunn the lineup loses a good deal of power. And without guys like Garcia and Tank(who like I said they should extend now) the lineup could get rather costly. Getting a guy who produces so well at 2B makes all the difference in the world. Extending Tank now IMO would be ridiculous. He still could be a complete bust. If he's willing to go 4 mill a year or 3 mill, OK. No big contract for Tank. He is not a real major league outfielder/slugger yet, no way.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 04:16 AM) Im sure Axelrod will still be here and what about Snodgress? Or we can just sign a long reliever that can fill in Big Hurt, Axelrod better not be here. He really is not a big-league talent. Back to Indy League. He was a success story for a bit but my gosh, he can't cut it. His stuff is just no good IMO.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:14 AM) Because girls of this mindset say things to sound proper, but often don't mean them. Like I've said a million times, girls in this mindset are often young(er), and those in that mindset love to tell the "friendzoned" one thing, and then do the exact opposite with the "jerk" she then complains about to that same friend. So in this series, I see you as the good guy. ...and then she met a jerkface. Stop being the movie quality "good guy", you do realize you could have slept with her and still been respectful of that fact, right? IMO, that still makes you the good guy, only THAT good guy got laid. Exactly. I tend to agree with this 100 percent. I know a lot of people do start out as "friends" then end up lovers and married for 40 years. That's great. But when it's going to be a summer fling, you got to complete the deal on the summer fling. Like Y2 said you could sleep with her and still be respectful of that fact later.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 04:19 AM) If any team wants to claim Ramirez or Dunn, you let them take those guys and their contracts. I'd flip flop Ramirez for Rios in that sentence and be OK with it. Alexei isn't a miserable player IMO. He has value to an MLB team even though he makes a decent wage.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:27 AM) Definitely not, but Rios and Dunn? I would let them go for nothing but full salary relief. You know what? So would I. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 03:51 AM) Sox have the right to dump them on that team with all salary or work out a trade. Or do nothing. Then Sox can work out a trade with anyone for that player. What happens if you can't work out details of a trade? Do u just give them the player and his contract? Or is he back to the White Sox?
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 03:48 AM) This just doesn't end ... like a bad movie... a nightmare .... a bad marriage. Wow! At the very least, Robin has to be embarrassed. Can you imagine going to work every day with these results? In the real world you'd get a lot of dirty looks and ultimately the pink slip if the guys you were responsible for were performing like this.
-
What happens if you put a guy on waivers and a team claims him? Do you have to make a trade? What happens if no team claims him?

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 03:40 AM) It really is and it's the worst part of this terribleness. I remember when Baines had his last tour with the Sox. He was bad but it wasn't surprising. Paulie's badness is somewhat sudden. This is somewhat similar to Fisk, though Fisk could no longer see or catch the ball behind the plate. He's probably lucky he didn't get killed. Seriously. I don't know if he'd be able to get out of the way of an inside heater. Pitchers must have had mercy on him busting off slow stuff to whiff him or get him to pop up. From all I can tell, Paulie can still field, though I haven't watched as many games this year for some reason.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 03:13 AM) Yesterday was the perfect type of loss. Rienzo pitched great, but they still lost. Much easier to accept that if Rienzo was horrible and they got destroyed. Maybe the Sox should change the rules. They play eight inning games and record the win or loss after eight. Then purposely implode in the ninth and/or extras to get the 'L.' Sox could keep track of their record after 8 frames to see if they are making progress, but make sure they lose it in the 9th if for some reason they are winning after 8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 03:26 AM) Axelrod will make this game over Good call.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 03:33 AM) Axelrod was bringing the heat in the relief role! It'd be fun to be a big leaguer and step in against Axe. His pitches, even the good ones, scream 'hit me.'
-
Not that it matters, but at this stage of the season wouldn't it have been smart to let Reed pitch another inning? I mean what Axe did was sooooo predictable. Again, I realize it doesn't matter, but I was hoping he'd trot Reed back out there if nothing else but as a penalty for his putrid 9th inning. I'm just frustrated, but I knew the game was over when I saw Axe. Gutty guy, but his ship has sailed. Axe is like Humber. His days are numbered.

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) Hahn is over his head. Give him time. Teams now know our players are available. They also know Hahn probably can't send money and won't just give away Sox players. The Peavy and Thornton deals prove he wants at least a viable prospect in return.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) Glad its over now so Rios can get this off his mind and continue to work Oh well. We agree to disagree. I respect the fact you love Rios as much as I despise him. My take on the trade deadline is a.) management told Hahn, 'You will not give money to teams to take ANY of our players. We will not pay our players to play somewhere else,' so that IMO probably 'hindered' Hahn a bit. b.) my opinion is the Peavy trade was a good trade, pretty fair return for Peavy. I feel Hahn in his first go-round is fully invested in the White Sox and didn't want to simply dump players having s***ty years for a horrific return. Mite set a bad precedent. For example, dumping a viable shortstop in Lexi for 2-3 nobody prospects would not be smart. I am thinking Hahn didn't want it known he's an 'easy mark' as a GM and he's not going to make trades that he feels are lopsided for the other team in any way. I am thinking he could have dumped Rios to the Yankees or Pirates or somebody had he paid half or more of the salary (probably more) and received some lousy prospect(s) - 2-3 warm bodies might be a way to put it - in return. But he's putting his foot down for the long haul showing he's not a GM who just throws players out the door. He wants something good in return even if the said players are sucking balls this season. Think about it, he could have traded several disappointing players. He didn't. My guess is because he was handicapped in not being able to send any money to those teams and the fact he was offered NON-prospects, not viable prospects, in return. Hahn is no easy mark for other GMs, even when it is debatable how good our trade chips are (were).

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:57 AM) Funny you bring this up, today of all days. We are done. At least for now. It's been a very stressful day. She almost randomly in the middle of a text convo sent me a huge long text saying how she can't wait for me while I'm at school, she will be too sad without me, she wants this to end now before she gets too attached. Says it's not fair to her or myself that we are away from each other for so long, says she just wanted to have fun this summer, didn't expect us to get this serious, and isn't going to spend 4 months waiting for a guy she has only been talking to for a month. Blah blah blah. Not that she's wrong about long distance relationships sucking, but at the same time, it bugs me that she won't even try to make it work. She just doesn't trust herself that she won't be depressed about not being able to see me whenever she wanted to. I tried to explain that I will be home every 3 or 4 weeks, and that my buddy offered to drive her to school for a weekend whenever she wants, but she doesn't think her parents will let her travel that far (ugh, 18 year olds), and she just doesn't want to even try. I told her I want to try again in December when I come back for good, and she said "Maybe! A lot can change in 5 months". Which to me sounds like a pessimistic comment, not an optimistic one. Oh well, I am super bummed out and surprisingly shaken up by this sudden and cold ending. I didn't think I liked her THIS much, but it's honestly killing me right now. I'm sure I'll feel better in a couple days, but it's going to be really hard going from what we had just as recent as Sunday, to this sudden end of contact. She says she "just wants to be friends" for now, but would still want to hang out when I come home from school. I'm banking on school being a giant distraction for me and not dwelling on this girl too much while I am enjoying my last semester of college. Does she watch a lot of movies? Seems like she utters almost every cliche in the book when discussing long term dating with you.

Damn, crazy stuff. Hang in there. Did it progress the past few weeks since you last posted? In terms of bf/gf status?

How could anybody want Lindstrom?
-
Any chance the Yankees want Rios? If they take him, again they'll probably take on his whole contract like Boston did re. Peavy. I hope it's Jerry-mandated that the Sox don't pay more than 2-3 million of Rios' deal for the team dumb enough to take him. TRADE RIOS!!! FREE GARCIA FOR RIGHT FIELD NOW!!

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:13 AM) If you're not going to get much for him and have to eat a lot of his contract, you're much better off saving him and hoping he can finish strong and then deal him this offseason. As you saw in the Peavy deal, teams aren't too interested it seems in high-priced guys with a lot of money left on their deals. Yeah but I want him in right field now, not Rios. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:15 AM) You know we're going to win like 20 out of our last 24 like we usually do when we suck but can't do to save our lives when we are actually decent. No way. Sox stink at home and the road losses will take care of themselves. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:22 AM) For those who who don't like the trade, Garcia is at or near the top of our prospect list. He should contribute in 2014. He should contribute now if we dump Rios tomorrow. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:10 AM) Garcia going to Charlotte for now. I knew it. We can still screw this up by keeping f***ing Rios. GOT TO TRADE RIOS. Just have to so Garcia can be called up. My god. Get rid of Rios tomorrow, Mr. Hahn, even if you have to eat 3-4 million on the deal. I'd be all for sending Rios to the Yankees if they pay all of Rios' pact. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:06 AM) It is pretty awful. The package the Cubs got was indisputably better for an inferior pitcher and less of a market. Reading through this thread the package we got was lower than the lowest of expectations. That said I'm excited about the money if we put it back into the organization. Certainly the best part Q: Would everybody be happy if Garcia had been hitting .330 in the big leagues? No, we wouldn't have been able to get him probably. He'd be the talk of baseball. But fortuantely Austin Jackson returned and he had to be sent down. What if this guy is a stud for the next 10 years in rf? I'm excited cause he's not a guy the Sox drafted, it's another team's prospect. Maybe he's good. -

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:58 AM) Red Sox report Wendelken, Montas, Rondon to CWS Two very young pitchers and a very young infielder to go with Garcia. The fact they also will pay Peavy's contract means this is a very good trade. I truthfully expected a trade in which we'd get the three young players with nobody like Garcia considering we were demanding teams take on Peavy's contract terms. Hahn now gets an A for this trade. -

Man, we're getting a ton for Peavy if we get this guy who throws 100 mph. Is Hahn a genius?? -

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:50 AM) I'm still baffled how AZ couldn't top this offer?!?!? Must have been the money Towers was demanding due to their weak-ass/fickled attendance... f*** off Towers.... That's got to be it, the $$$.
