  1. It said he had an unexpected death in the family. So give him a break.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) Either you seriously don't understand player value and the economics of baseball, or you are baiting the hook. Or perhaps both. I'm just trying to say he still has value to a contender. It's not like he's so old he's playing like Carlton Fisk did in his final days.
  3. I wonder what would happen if every team had half the lineup bunt toward the injured Cabrera. I guess it's against baseball's unwritten code now to take advantage of a guy who is hurt. Every time Cabrera is deep shouldn't all teams besides the Sox (who can't bunt) bunt?
  4. He had another good scoop tonight. I'd be surprised if he went unclaimed. How could a contender turn down a veteran like Paul who knows all about winning? Like you said he can still attack lefties and his pride/adrenaline just might get 20 more feet on those fly balls that might start clearing the fence again..
  5. Lexi needs a day off after tonight. Geez, what horrific fielding.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 05:17 AM) why wouldn't you bunt it to Cabrera? Astounding. Cause the Sox cannot bunt.
  7. Yay! Impressive single by DeAza. That first pitch was scary close to his chin and he still strokes a game-winning hit. Nice to beat Detroit again. Poor Royals blew a big chance tonight by losing to the sucky Marlins. Coulda picked up another game, not that anybody cares about KC on a Sox board. Good job, DeAza.
  8. That also proved fortunate. Danks gets em over. Flowers? Yuk. Hope he can make contact and loft a deep enough fly ball.
  9. If the Sox play this bad fundamentally next season, you'll see Robin get the boot which will be awkward since he is a Chicago legend. Sad how badly his troops are performing fundamentally. People have said it before, but the bunt should never ever be called for on this team cause our guys cannot execute a bunt. They just can't do it.
  10. So Alexei with a big error. We can't sacrifice the runner over. Another game we've given away barring some miracle.
  11. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 04:34 AM) Seriously tho....Avisail hit a 100 mph rocket that short hopped Infante & he doesnt get a knock? That could be the kind of hit that gets changed. I'd bet the Sox will appeal the call. To be devil's advocate, though, the second baseman only had to move one step.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 04:27 AM) That was one of the longest balls Keppinger has hit this year Great line! I despise the addition of Keppinger. He's been as bad as Teahen was.
  13. Keppinger should be able to bunt. My god. WE SUCK.
  14. I wonder if Lexi can turn it around defensively next year or if he should play second base for somebody the rest of his career. He has to be one of the worst defensive shortstops in baseball right now.
  15. Lexi just basically gave the Tigers the game. Why does he stink so badly this year?
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 01:26 AM) According to KW the Sox are determining right now who "deserves" to get asked back next season. If they haven't determined that yet, I really wonder why? If it were up to me, I'd not invite back Kepp, Axe, Dunn, Flowers, Lindstrom for starters and make Paulie a coach. I'd trade Tank. Sure I"m forgetting some I'd love to dump as well.
  17. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 10:25 AM) Its hilarious. He thinks a 33 year old Dunn with an .800+ OPS is worthless and should just retire, but a 37 year old Konerko with his .650 OPS is going to get a 2 year deal all because Konerko's batting agerage is 10 points higher. Talk about clueless. A lot of the things I say on here come true. But only Dick Allen has pointed that out on occasion for me. As far as Dunn and Rios. Yes they are my whipping boys for this pathetic baseball team. And yes, Paulie's dropoff has hurt the team just as much. I guess I give Paulie more wiggle room because he had 4-5 really good years in a row. Dunn pretty much was the worst player in the history of mankind for a long long time in Sox uniform. What's the lowest he got that one year, .145, .150?
  18. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 07:52 AM) Nobody wants him at $15M a year. But I bet he could get 2 yrs/$20M from someone. The Sox schizophrenia (sp?) has killed the value of some of its players. Nobody's gonna take Dunn for 10 mill a year because when he's been bad, he's been laughably bad. A GM would be trusting Adam to show up in good shape and not be the bad Dunn. Are you confident Dunn will hit over .100 next April/May again? If you were a GM would you risk that for 10 mill a year?? Ditto Rios. He had no value in trade because when he decided he didn't want to play, his loafing was unacceptable. Crazy team we have in Chicago. If Dunn was valued at all, some big money contender would have claimed him.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 03:08 AM) I wouldn't hate the idea of resigning Dunn to a lower value contract after next year, given that I don't know what that team will look like. I bet somebody overpays, though. Jake, nobody's going to overpay on Adam Dunn. Nobody claimed him on waivers for gosh sakes. He's unwanted.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 12:54 AM) There is no way this guy is getting 6/90. Cespedes just got 4/36 two years ago and was basically the same age but is a 5 tool outfielder. Abreu may be a more accomplished hitter in Cuba, but he's also a 1B and an average athlete at best. A lot of teams are going to he turned off by his lack of athletism and others simply won't have a need for a 1B/DH type. The market for him will much smaller than those for Cespedes & Puig. I think he ultimately gets more than Puig since he is major league ready, but 6/60 is the max I see him getting unless the Marlins do something stupid to try and win fans back. Cespedes has been nothing special, ala Tank. This guy should not get more than Cespedes got. I know he will cause everybody loves the unknown, but he shouldn't.
  21. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 04:33 AM) .240 would be ok if he was still hitting 35 homers, but when you only have a .650 OPS its completely unacceptable. Any GM that would give Konerko a 2 year deal after this year should be fired on the spot. Fired on the spot? For a 2-year deal to Paul? I disagree. No matter what, he can field. He's ace on digging balls in the dirt, great to his left. OK, he can't handle a bullet to his right. No big deal. Hitting? Like I said, he still hits the ball. He doesn't whiff all the time like Dunn. I could see contracts like Thome was getting at the end of the line. I think he'll be back.
