Our batters could be just what the doctor ordered for Wade Davis, who has not been special in KC so far.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 5, 2013 -> 02:32 AM) Guthrie is the real deal, let's stop pretending the SOX were dealing with some scrub tonight. Sox are banged up. I expect when Beckham returns that you Kepp gets bench time. I really want Viciedo to return so De Aza gets his b**** ass back in CF. Granted, no runs were scored due to the De Aza tonight but he has kicked the ball around a lot. Sox still take 2 of 3 this series, you heard it here first. Let's do it gentlemen and shut these damn Soxtalk haters up. You were right about the Texas series, hope you are right again. The top of our order doesn't help matters any. DeAza and Kepp are bad this season.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 01:49 AM) 2 hitters in the lineup batting over .257, and 4 under .195 at the moment. I miss steroids in the game of baseball. You should see what's coming up from college baseball. Nobody and I mean nobody hits home runs anymore. I think Texas' leading home run hitter has 3 or 4 homers. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 02:11 AM) It's unbelievable just how worthless Keppinger has been so far. Thing is, without getting to face a lot of LHP in our division, he's going to end up being a seldom-played utility player. Man he is a lousy hitter. Kepp is hitting .186, followed by Dunn's great .143, .192 from Flowers and .188 from Wise. QUOTE (High Mileage @ May 5, 2013 -> 03:16 AM) First career shutout in 216 starts as well. Getz is becoming a problem with his bat. Elliott Johnson has been getting more playing time, but nobody is convinced he's the answer. Semi-prospect Johnny Giavotella is hitting in Triple-A, but he's striking out a ton, his defense sucks, and he's showed very little in KC over three stints. Former top pick Christian Colon isn't hitting well in Triple-A. So yeah, 2nd base is an issue. And of course Francoeur still sucks. He's got a great arm but other than that he's a defensive liability. He's swings at everything, doesn't make a lot if contact, and never walks. Most Royals fans prefer Jarrod Dyson in center with Lorenzo Cain moving to right. Dyson doesn't have any power but makes decent contact, can take a walk, and is one of the fastest players in baseball. He's a defensive upgrade over Cain defensively too. We've still got some nice prospects but the only ones close to the bigs are all pitchers. Guthrie has now pitched 44 innings over 5 starts as a Royal against the White Sox. He's allowed 2 earned runs. He came into the game with a 0.50 ERA against them and managed to lower it to 0.04, wow. Don't laugh, people, but Dyson looks like a guy who deserves to at least platoon with Francouer. Although Francouer's .255 would be one of the top averages in our starting nine.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 12:36 AM) Keppinger likely has the worst WAR in all of baseball after today...might be time to bat him 9th in the order instead of in front of 3/4/5. You got to move him down at least until he gets over .220. He's embarrassing.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2013 -> 12:34 AM) Doubt it. Kept slicing away from him. Caufield are u coming to KC at all this year for Sox-Royals? I was thinking about going Monday possibly. Supposed to be nice here finally.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 12:30 AM) Watching on mlb.com replay, could/should Rios have caught Cain's triple? I personally think he dogged it on that triple, or wasn't ready for it, anyhow, giving him the benefit of the doubt.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 5, 2013 -> 12:17 AM) McEwing held him up as well. Yeah. I think that's a good decision. He would have been out by a mile. I was just lamenting that our team is so slow we can't score a guy with two outs on a nice, deep gapper.

How many season tix did the Sox sell? If Sox are 10 or more out when school lets out, will our crowds consist pretty much only of season tix holders? Maybe 1-2 times a summer families will go? Good thing they lowered ticket prices. Too bad we didnt finish off Detroit last year when we had the chances, many chances.

Guthrie with the sad K of Coner who didn't look very comfortable against the inside off speed stuff from the righty. Damn. That was huge K with first base open.
-
Paulie with the 2B. Serious ? Is Adam Dunn the only guy in baseball (besides Paulie) who couldn't score from first on that Paulie hit?
-
Sox are still in the game, but I'm thinking Guthrie has this thing in total command.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2013 -> 11:53 PM) Hence, all the rebuilding/reconstructing threads. It's telling when Dunn is still our clean-up hitter and Lorenzo Cain, were he on the White Sox, would be 1st or 2nd in RBI's. And Konerko's clearly unlikely to be the same hitter he was 2-3-4 years ago. That was due to happen...but he kept surprising everyone for so long we never believed he would fade. There was the idea if he was 100% healthy that he could go back to being the same level of hitter, but it's not going to happen with "bad" Dunn hitting in front or in back of him. I'm surprised Paulie appears to have less power. That homer he hit against Texas, he really turned on it and looked like the old Paulie. I'm thinking it was against Texas. It was his fourth homer of the year, whomever he hit that off. It was a Paulie bomb.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2013 -> 11:49 PM) Are you sure you don't actually want the Royals to win, lol? At least the Royals can say they have enough depth they don't even need Chen or Hochevar in their rotation anymore. "Wise can fly." No Physioc, he cannot. Maybe ten years ago. No, it's probably going to seem like I root for the Royals this year, since they IMO will be contenders and Sox are really bad, but I prefer the Sox beat KC every time out. Sox defense sucks this year.
-
Also helping KC is they get to play the Sox 18 times, although to be fair the Sox lead the season series, 2-1, entering this weekend's set.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 4, 2013 -> 11:33 PM) Considering he's about our seventh starter. True, I'm just very surprised he's starting for a major league team despite all our injuries. You'd think we'd have somebody else who could take the mound.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 5, 2013 -> 12:27 AM) That reason isn't earth-shattering. You mean that Axe throws about as hard as you do?
-
For some reason, I don't think Axe is gonna be in the rotation the second half of the season. This Royals team, on paper, is so much better than our White Sox team it's ridiculous.
-
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ May 5, 2013 -> 12:21 AM) The first name that popped into my head: Darin Erstad... Not a bad one! I hope he's ultimately better than Erstad. Gawd, he stunk.
-
Butler doesn't look happy he got plunked by Axe.
-
I'm getting to the point where I officially don't like Kepp. I don't know who he reminds me of in the past, but he's pretty lousy at the plate. Guthrie is so confident when he faces the Sox. Until we start hitting him, he's gonna be Hall of Fame worthy against the Sox. Serious question: who's the better hitter. Tony Graffanino when he played, or Kepp?
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2013 -> 06:19 AM) You're only allowed to call White Sox players by their pet nicknames! I didn't wanna write his full name. Too long.
-
Why not skip over Axelrod after the rainout? I personally think the Royals' lefties will light him up. And Sal likes slow tossers, too.

Gavin Floyd to DL - Out 14-19 months for TJ Surgery
greg775 replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2013 -> 02:24 AM) From 2008 to 2012 Floyd ranked 8th amongst all AL pitchers with 948 1/3 IP, 7th in Wins with 62, and 9th with 754 strikeouts. He might not have been the flashiest, but he was a damned important anchor in a rotation that was the basis for any Sox success. I think he's Jon Garland revisited. And a ton of other pitchers like him. 4-5 good years. I'd be stunned if Gavin is anything but a body the rest of his career. Not to take away from his good years, however, he had some. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 3, 2013 -> 01:52 AM) and there were those of us who loved that he would step on Aaron Boone rounding third, or would give Joe Borchard $100 for homering off Brett Tomko, or would steal first base in the ALCS or get into a fight with Michael Barrett. At the time, we ALL loved voting for AJP (or should I say punching). I love that s***. That's baseball man. Baseball has always been full of douchebags and bad guys, and those are some of the guys that make the game fun. I don't want a team full of players with the personality of Paul Konerko. That'd be boring as s***. It's nice to see some fire and passion and it's awesome to have a player who unequivocally wants to win at all costs. you don't have to like it, but AJP is a fixture in white sox lore forever, and absolutely belongs in the same paragraph as Fisk, Buehrle and Konerko. Was he as good as all them? maybe not. but he was an integral part of the team that won the world series, and no other player in baseball would have stolen first base. I know I'm belaboring that point, but without him we have a much, MUCH harder time winning that ALCS, and I also give him a lot of credit in the White Sox having the most quality starts in baseball over the years he was with us. Or is that just coincidence? Thank you for that post. AJ forever!

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 3, 2013 -> 05:50 AM) Booyah, I called that! Where's greg? Good call. I'm glad we won. I'm really surprised. I'll say one thing. Reed is special. I hope we can find a way to lead games cause I'd hate to blow the kind of season he's going to have. Also that Flowers homer was a true bomb. It's all we needed to go with the pitching. That thing was a rocket.
