0-4 with a high five ERA. Are we still high on Nate Jones on soxtalk?

Mark Buehrle must be feeling snake-bitten...
greg775 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
Do you think Mark may just retire if he keeps getting rocked? He seems like a proud guy to me. Of course some crafty lefties have good years and some bad years. maybe he'll ride out the storm. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 21, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Tornado Survivor Finds Dog During TV Interview Thanks for the link. That was utterly amazing the dog was right there. Breaks your heart to think the little dog was stuck there for so long. Then he gets out and doesn't even look like he needs water right away.

Sox really need to sweep this thing. Team needs to stay hot and get over .500.

I know you guys hate Ozzie for the most part, but he knows what it takes to win and I think he'd be PERFECT for the Royals. People here are growing impatient and think Ned must go. He got rid of a hitting coach that helped turn Alex Gordon around and now all the entire team can do is hit singles. Now the starting pitching is even growing a bit unreliable outside of No. 1. Getz can't hit; Francouer can't hit; Salvy Perez may be one of those guys who gets hurt a lot with that big body at catcher; Hosmer is an average singles hitter right now; Moustakas is a possible bust; Cain looks good but is in a slump and we'll see how long the slump continues. If they fire Ned ... why not Ozzie?? p.s. to the mods: If you don't want the discussion to turn to Ozzie by all means kill my post. I'm not trying to be a dick here.

2012-2013 Official NHL thread
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
What is going on? I thought the Hawks by and far were the most talented team. Suddenly next game is HUGE. A loss and you'd have to think the dream is over. -
Nice win, White Sox. I have one question. Are we (meaning the Sox) getting good again?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2013 -> 03:00 AM) Except that a LOT of that so-called momentum was killed off Saturday and Sunday afternoon. We're just treading water again. Last year, we were able to go on that 13-1/14-2 run at the end of May to get into first place on the 29th. This time, we're probably going to be looking up in the standings at four teams at that same time. A cynic would say the momentum from Robin's team meeting and early infield practice is gone since we didn't even win the series after getting up 2-0 and rapping a measly 5-hits today.

Great win. Credit to where it's deserved. Rios for being on fire; Dunn for the adjustments he's made that have resulted in a ton of bombs lately; Sale for being amazing; Gillaspie for continuing to hit pretty well; Reed for being as good as any closer in baseball. And to Ventura. His little meeting and early fielding practice may or may not have mattered, but it sure looks like it's made the team care. Would be nice to keep winning.

Glad Kepp made the play there.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 17, 2013 -> 05:54 AM) If I was the Angels, I'd really talk to Pujols about losing some weight. He's just too thick for his age. Isn't Tank a little bit heavy as well? Dunn looks good physically tho. Paulie looks kinda skinny to me.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 16, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) I use 4 beers as my limit if I go out and have to drive. This is provided that it is over at least a 2 hour period. I've never really had an issue with not being able to stop at that point. Four beers over a two hour time period is probably still getting close in some states isn't it? Are you willing to take the risk on some broken breathalizer? QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 16, 2013 -> 04:39 PM) It's easy to do to the cars, but it's the legal battle that would be tough. Why should somebody who's never had a drink in their life have to blow into a device everytime they want to start their car? Exactly. That would not be very fair. Kind of brutal for non drinkers. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 16, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) Well, at the very least, you could make anyone who's ever had a dui violation use one for the rest of their life...I believe that is a better solution than making it difficult for them to be a productive citizen by fining them and suspending their license. Bingo. You get a DUI you should have to blow. I can buy that one. Remember my troubled friend in Vegas who was sleeping at a stoplight and it was his third DUI? He pretty much got off scot free. They counted it as his second DUI. I think he lost his license for a year. I said, "Do you still drive?" He said, "Sometimes." I do believe if he gets pulled over in this scenario, there's mandatory jail time.

Cmon Dunn, keep hitting the ball to center and left center and left. It works, big lug. Same with you, Dayan. You guys hit homers the other way today. It is a WISE strategy. There's no reason for Dunn to not continue this sizz. Just keep using this current strategy. It is the BEST ONE for Dunn. Pulling the ball like he does into the shift is just f***ing ridiculous.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 14, 2013 -> 06:42 PM) Dewayne Wise. Who we should have never signed in the first place. You know Wise is blah when I would like to see him replaced. I was against bringing him back. As far as Dunn, man, is that so difficult Adam? You are so fricking big n strong all you have to do is hit the ball in the air. Just make contact. You don't have to pull the ball big guy. Peavy was excellent and Flowers gets a key hit now and then. Maybe this year will be good for him and he'll learn how to hit more consistently. I know he stinks but occasionally he raps a big hit. Viciedo ... what a bomb.

RV-Team Meeting/Strategies for improving defense?
greg775 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Amazing our team is already at this stage, where the manager has to have a team meeting and imply changes will be made. I guess Danks deserves a shot. Bench DeAza will be the first move it sounds like. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 14, 2013 -> 03:26 AM) I can't recall being so indifferent about a Sox team. I rarely even check the box scores anymore. *yawn* The 5-9 record against the Central is interesting. Sox getting owned by its closest neighbors again.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 02:46 AM) As Hawk just said, "right now, we're just not a good team" We should all be thankful Ventura didn't sign an extension and this is PK's final season under contract. This should be remembered when people call Hawk a raging "homer." Not many announcers would say something like that in this day and age of PR, sell tickets, announcing.

No wonder the Sox lost. Dunn played. He can turn any given lineup into a bunch of zombies. He's hitting .133 on the season. I think he'd be more valuable to the team and start earning his money if he was sent to the minors or put on the DL. His appearance in the lineup just kills this team.
-
What do you think it'd take for KC to fire Ned this season? Losing six of seven heading into a road trip is not what the fans wanted. The Yankees sure beat up KC like the Royals were nothing. The Royals never look that bad when they play the Sox.
-
Congratulations to Sale on a great game. Holy s***, what a performance! Glad to see Sox win again with Dunn sitting. I know we've won our last 2 with Dunn on the bench. Glad to see Lexi doing OK in the 2 hole. Hopefully automatic out Kepp continues to drop in the order. You know, if Beckham can get back relatively soon and the defense improves and our starting pitching continues to perform like it has been .... then there's no excuse for these hitless wonders to not contend. My suggestions - make a deal to get one player at the break who can hit the ball (easier said than done, but we did get Youk last year), get Beckham back to improve the defense and bench Dunn or put him on the fake DL. At the very least, NEVER ever let him face a lefty pitcher again. This team is again going to waste something it has going for it - very good starting pitching. Our division is so s***ty Hahn has to find a way to get this team to finish 10 over .500 and contend. I know one game means nothing, but tonight was another reminder the sox have good starting pitching! And the defense should not be as bad as it has been. When is Becks coming back???

The post about the guy having 2 beers in 3 hours and getting a DUI still is scary. Years ago I decided I just would never have a beer if I had to drive. It's just not worth the risk to myself and others. It's scary also that the one poster on here said half his friends have had DUIs. Man. Sorry, Tex. Have they raised enough money to have a funeral? How does something like that work? The body remains somewhere until you tell them if you can pay or not?

Desperate times call for...three bold moves
greg775 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Like Dick Allen and others said, nobody would take Dunn off our hands under any circumstances except the Sox paying every penny of his salary. I bet if a team could get Dunn for free, that team would send him to Triple A for a month and see if they can reinvent his stance, etc. -
It's going to be a while IMO. It's been said over and over but all the Sox have is starting pitching and the ability to hit home runs (sometimes). It's been a long time since we've seen life in the the team or TWTW. The team loses a ton of close games and gets blown out once in a while but rarely blows anybody out. With the current defense below average, offense abysmal, relief pitching lousy except for the closer, I'd say it may take a long long time. It would help if the Tigers returned to the pack and a .500 season could win the lousy Central Division.

Game Thread: LAA (Williams) @ White Sox (Quintana), 6:10pm
greg775 replied to Disco72's topic in 2013 Season in Review
I have a sneaky feeling before it's over we'll get the second or third pick overall. I don't think Rios' heart will be in it all year like it was last year and we're going to really be a bad ballclub the second half. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 12, 2013 -> 02:20 AM) Some people here had me convinced he would be half way competent of a starting catcher. LMFAO, I am dumb. I was hopeful when he homered on Opening Day. I need to stop thinking Opening Day means anything.
