Peavy Out
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:29 PM) But who has an injury you can even remotely pin on playing too much last year? Floyd actually pitched fewer innings than any year he was in the White Sox rotation. Beckham broke a bone. Viciedo pulled an oblique. Sanchez and Keppinger weren't even White Sox. Danks injury certainly wasn't a result of Robin running him into the ground. Septimo hardly pitched for the White Sox. Facts. Nice job of supplying facts over myth. Who was fathom talking about then?

Peavy Out
QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) Tell that to Mark Prior. Well, if this is overuse that people are implying with Peavy, that's also on Peavy. He demands to stay in games basically.

Peavy Out
QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) Well pushing a young bullpen and young starters and almost never using the bench hurts and that's kind of on Robin. Cmon. I don't think the manager can be blamed for injuries. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) Ozzie used his bench all the time and people hated it. He also let his starters stay in the learn, take their lumps, and he let his relievers face both sides of the plate and work 2-3 inning stints whether they had the ability to do it or not. People hated that too. Bottom line: bad team = put it on the manager, coaching staff, etc. Personally I think Robin has done just fine. No chicken stew when all you got is chicken poo. How true. People hated those things you mentioned about Ozzie, definitely, the Sunday lineup, etc. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) Sale yes, but it seemed they pushed Peavy pretty hard last year. He was 5th in innings pitched. With that said, hopefully this is just a minor issue (I assume it is), and he'll be able to start again soon. Gavin's injury on the other hand..... Peavy pushed himself hard. He wanted to kill when it appeared he might be taken out of a game. That said, who knows? We do know that unless this is a fluke, back spasms are not good. For him to miss a start, wow, they must be really painful.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ May 2, 2013 -> 03:15 AM) Sox legend with swing-at-everything inflated OBP and little defensive value Sometimes circumstances make legends out of guys that on their own were only solid/OK I'm speechless if the devaluation of AJP's career with the Sox has already begun. Wow.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 2, 2013 -> 03:02 AM) Maybe the great Sox legend wasn't very liked in the clubhouse? Maybe our clubhouse has a bunch of prima donnas if that's the case and they can't handle a prick who likes to win.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2013 -> 03:05 AM) "Sox legend"? AJ was very good with us, he was an integral part of helping us to win the World Series in 2005...but legend is really pushing it. That word is reserved for guys like Shoeless Joe Jackson, Nellie Fox, Aparicio, etc. But wasn't Sean Tracey the one who was ordered to hit someone with the Rangers by Ozzie? Or was that Garland, and he failed to do it...? Can't remember now. You guys slay me. AJP does all that great s*** to help us win the title in 2005 like the great play against the Angels and now that he's wearing another jersey you like seeing the Sox throw at him. There's a good chance when we all die, AJP will be a member of the only Sox team that won it all in our lifetimes.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 2, 2013 -> 03:00 AM) I applaud him for it. Why? Good job, Sale and Reed. We win.
-
GT Sox @ Rangers 5-1-13 7:05 CST
It was probably unintentional, but that would be typical nonsensical Sox baseball if Reed did try to hit him. All the guys our pitchers HAVEN'T hit in the past and plunking a great Sox legend like AJ. That would be dumb.

Abuse case Leo, Br. Rice, St. Lawrence
Folks, Did you read the story in the Trib Monday about 30 people suing the Christian Brothers (who have no money) for sex abuse of students by brothers and teachers basically in the 60s, 70s and 80s? My brother is a lawyer so he sent me the actual names of the alleged perpetrators on the actual open record complaint, and one is a longtime Brother Rice football coach, who was at Rice when I was there. He actually wasn't head coach any more, but I had him as religion teacher. Anyhow, I am sickened that "allegedly" the higher-ups at Brother Rice knew about all the abusers and shipped them to other places including this Courtney guy who went to Seattle and caused all sorts of abuse crimes there! I am so sickened by this, I almost hope the people who are doing the suing (I think eight are suing Brother Rice) bring Rice to its knees and make the current school pay out the wazoo considering the Christian Brothers are bankrupt. My question to you is: How could this happen? How could members of a religious order (brothers) KNOW of these atrocities and let these abusers continue on??? Are you as sickened by me as this? My brother is so upset he demanded to be removed from all Brother Rice records. He does not want it on the record that he is a graduate of the school since he attended the school during the 70s and knew some of the "alleged" abusers. Why? Why did this happen at Chicago's Brother Rice, Leo and St. Laurence???? And to you attorneys on here: Will the people doing the suing be able to get money from the current Brother Rice administration for atrocities committed in the 60s and 70s? Since the Christian Brothers have no money to pay??? If Rice, Leo and Laurence have to pay out settlements will the schools close? And yes, in looking back, there was one incident when a priest at my grade school tried to get me. He didn't succeed and at the time I didn't know what the f*** he was trying to do to me. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/religio...0,7430957.story

QUOTE (Cali @ May 1, 2013 -> 05:00 AM) s***ty April.... No playoffs this year. Just hoping for a sell off midseason. And watching Gillaspie develop... Hope you guys are right about Gillaspie being a future star. Guess it's possible.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2013 -> 04:30 AM) 1st story, 2nd story and 3rd story should be: this team can't hit It's amazing how the last month of the season has basically been replayed so far during the first month. Interesting take. I didn't realize you were totally down on the offense and apparently think the other areas may be passable.

GT Sox @ Rangers 4-30 7:05PM CST
I love Hawk. He said, "We played terrible and we'll be back." Not many teams have announcers who can get away with saying that their team played "terrible." Well, Sox, your month of April pretty much sucked. Not many highlights. Main story of month: Injuries. Second story: s***ty defense and bad offense aside from good amount of homers. Third story: Great great closer. Rest of the relievers unreliable. Do you all agree with my storylines?
-
GT Sox @ Rangers 4-30 7:05PM CST
Hawk mentions TWTW. I hope he doesn't imply our team has that. It may exist in Hawk's mind, but there's been no solid evidence of it on our team ... at least, yet.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 1, 2013 -> 04:01 AM) This team needs Gillaspie in the lineup. I'd prefer a Robin Ventura in his prime in place of Gillaspie. Oh for the good ol days.

GT Sox @ Rangers 4-30 7:05PM CST
Last inning with the score 10-4 Hawk said 'the best thing is we have another one tomorrow.' It's amazing how it's understood Sox could never pull off a miracle rally even with nine outs remaining. Hawk basically wrote off this game. If we led 10-4 with 9 outs left, I don't think the game would be over.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 1, 2013 -> 03:55 AM) Sorry, just had to blow off some steam. Unfortunately, going from the high that was Wise's homer to the low that was the entire half inning that followed was too much for me to endure without sounding off. I will say this though, Robin needs to rip this team to shreds in the post game. He can't just be passive Robin tonight, he's got to give this team some tough love. Maybe a little spanking will make them come more focused tomorrow. Even Ozzie didn't do that. I think it's seen as a desperation move, so managers don't do that.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2013 -> 03:30 AM) The next 2 weeks is definitely danger time. If the Sox keep playing poorly, they can easily put themselves into a hole that statistically is very difficult to overcome. With that said, a lot of this has to fall on the pitching, as the offense scored a decent amount of runs against 3 of the 4 best pitchers in the AL. It's scary. I agree statistically things could be pretty bad after the KC series this weekend. QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 1, 2013 -> 03:40 AM) Remember when some wanted to make Jones the closer? Has he taken a step back or what? Geez. The Rangers announcers were just ripping the way he throws. I despise his motion the way he slings his arm. He was embarrassingly bad tonight.

TWTW shirts?
This TWTW stuff isn't catching on at all, is it? I haven't heard much about it except on here. I personally liked my The Will To Whiff but nobody else paid it any mind.

Would things be any different under Walker?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 06:55 PM) Things would have been pretty much the same most likely. The big difference on this board is while the Sox srtill aren't scoring runs, its not blamed on the hitting coach anymore. If you really want a better offense, you need better players. If hitting coaches made the difference in every hitter some believe they do, they would be making $25 million a year. They would be far more valuable than any player. Great post. I liked yours too, Caufield. But I believe Dick has it right. The Sox have the same hitting philosophy basically and similarly streaky results. The difference as Dick points out, is Manto is not getting any blame. Walker was despised.

This team is a catastrophe right now
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 01:14 AM) I never had high expectations for this team in 13. I have the luxury of living out of the Chicago viewing area. There seems to be no immediate future with this organization. I would like to see the ownership sell. If not I think we are in for the same poor scouting, poor developing, bad luck in the FA market, we've seen for quite some time. It not unusual for this team to have a bad April. 7-7 at home and 3-7 on road entering a real long road swing. Already five back in the loss column. I don't know why I'm ripped for saying it might be time to start turning this baby around. People blast me, but I think it's time to have a killer month of May if the Sox are going to do anything except be a team that somehow steals a s***ty division. I realize because of injuries it's unpopular to blast the team right now. Sox have a lot of parts missing.

QUOTE (MAX @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 05:08 AM) Dunn has hit 6/21 with 3 HR and 5 RBI in the last 6 games. Two hits tonight and a walk. I would like people to cut the guy some slack . . . for now. I'll gladly take those stats. Didn't realize he was hot. GO DUNN!

TWTW shirts?
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 05:04 AM) Except for the fact that it's from Hawk's stupid rant. Yeah, it has everything to do with the rant and doesn't describe this team, so I'd leave it be. Next year if they go totally young and there's truly a will to win, maybe? Even DeAza can be questioned now with all his Ks. TWTW could be called The Will to Whack (homers) or The Will to Whiff (while trying to hit homers).
