  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 01:43 AM) I don't know who Angel Sanchez is and didn't even realize he was on the MLB roster. Same here. Who is Tyler Green? Young? Old? Good prospect?
  2. Jake and Paulie save the day. Nice. I hope Jake is confident enough in his third season to be team leader this year and kick some ass in the clubhouse if he thinks the team needs such a butt kicking. Three runs isn't a ton. He saved us today as did Paul.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) It's so obvious what Viciedo is doing wrong at the plate. I haven't seen that many games of late. Let me guess. Pitcher gets ahead in the count with high fastballs out of the zone, then finishes him off with a breaking ball way off the plate. All 3 pitches or at least 2 of the 3 are balls. Hey, a victory! Maybe this breaks the road doldrums. Two under .500. Got to find a way to beat Toronto. Mark has stunk this year so far, so we all know what that means unfortunately ... Chen-music from Mark. GO SOX!
  4. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 07:34 PM) Best post. I wasn't too giddy about this season anyway since the changes made were from subtraction. I think this season is to find out if some players will have a future on this team. I'm a little alarmed at our lousy pitching. I always make assumptions after Opening Day and the first series. Sale just rolled the Royals and I thought we'd have great pitching and D all year. This road trip has been embarrassing so far. I hate when the Sox start dropping games left and right and the L's start to pile up.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) #2 was bad. Alexei just isn't good at bunting for a sacrifice. This is the guy who sacrificed into a triple play. When you ask alexei to sacrifice, there's a 50/50 chance he's going to pop it up. It's just not a good move, and it's just one of those things a manager needs to know about h is players. I used to defend Ozzie for bunting in obvious bunt situations as well. Even when our guys feebly failed the bunt try. I'd say, 'Is it his fault a big leaguer can't bunt a guy over??' I'd say every manager in the world would bunt in obvious bunt situations. But even I am getting tired of seeing guys like Alexei and Beckham (before he got hurt) look like fools trying to bunt. I'm amazed that guys like Ramirez haven't learned how to bunt. I mean there are a lot of situations during a season in which they are called upon to bunt. You'd think during the winter or sometime they'd go to a warm weather climate and work on their weaknesses. I'm sure Alexei doesn't want to look like a fool and fail miserably when asked to bunt. So why doesn't he do something about it??
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 11:13 PM) Someone asked earlier what type of leash Flowers would have this year, and they better give him the whole season to prove he's MLB caliber. If not, then you move on from him next year. They committed to Flowers and Viciedo during the offseason, so you might as well see if you have anything there outside of a platoon player. Somebody the other day said Viciedo is out of shape. If that is true, that pisses me off. Is it true? He's not even an average big leaguer yet. If he is carrying 20 extra pounds I'd DL him and get him in shape. I'm just going by what somebody wrote on here the other day. If he's out of shape that's just unacceptable. Is he out of shape or not? If he is overweight, it's going to be even harder for him to bend over and poke some of those offspeed pitches for base hit to right field. Might as well put a severe shift on for his at bats.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 04:07 AM) Cleveland had something like 11,400 today for a Saturday day game. Yikes. Can't wait to see the totals for the next White Sox weeknight/weekday games. Intradivisional opponents aren't going to draw any fans, and few Sox fans care very much about beating the Twins anymore when the Tigers are the barometer for the rest of the AL Central. Thing is, the totals will not be accurate will they? When the Sox have embarrassing crowds, isn't the total of tickets sold still listed about 18,000? I'd say there will be 14,000 max in the ballpark for any of the games during the week until late May. Right? Probably actual attendance of about 10,000 to 12,000?
  8. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 04:36 AM) This team has the personality of a gym shoe. There are no interesting/exciting players on this team. They have no characters, no spark plugs on the team. In 2005 they had guys like Carl, AJ, Mark, Aaron, etc. Now that they are all gone this is just a dull boring team. The losses don't seem to even bother me much anymore. I'm mostly bored watching them and I'm losing interest. I hope it's just the weather that's making me feel this way, but I think it's more the personality of the team, the makeup of the roster. It is a dull offense, but I still maintain if we could get excellent starting pitching and combine it with top notch defense, we could have something here. I think we are going to be supporting one of the worst offensive teams in Sox history, or one of the worst offensive teams in road games in team history.People could support a team strong on defense and exceptional on the mound, though.
  9. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 04:10 AM) I just don't think they're that good. I think they're ~.500 team. And that's being positive. I know, SSS but Keppinger has K'd a lot more so far than I thought he would. They will struggle to get on base and catch the ball all year. That's not a good combination. This is not meant to inflame anybody. I was studying Kepp's stats from the past. Is this guy really a starter at the big league level? Seems like a super sub type guy to me.
  10. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 01:23 AM) this offense is so fundamentally flawed it makes you wonder what we teach guys in the minor leagues, just awful and people don't want to see an all or nothing baseball team I was telling a guy tonight that we should bunt all the time in spring training just in case it might spill over in a game that might actually count. The vision of Lexi trying to bunt there will haunt me the next 24 hours. My god. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 01:31 AM) So what exactly is the plan going to be this season when the Sox have to face tough righties like Verlander, Scherzer, Masterson, etc? Ventura going to continue to trot out Viciedo in LF, Flowers/Gimenez at C and Keppinger at 2nd or 3rd? What a poorly constructed roster/lineup. Fathom is on fire in this thread with some great posts. Is there any way this team can step it up defensively and our pitching can dominate and we win with pitching and defense? I can't see this team scoring more than 3-4 runs on the road very often.
  11. It would be nice to beat this lousy team, 1-0, in 10 innings. Sox look like a different team on the road. When you are built to hit home runs, though, this s*** will happen on the road a lot. We're going to have to eventually start whacking singles and doubles or we are going to lose a s*** ton of road games this year. Agreed? The long ball at home should help us win four of every six in the Cell, though, if we keep whacking homers at the rate of last homestand.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 01:03 AM) Nobody on this team deserves to have any fan support tonight other than Rios, Gillaspie and Quintana. God, this is awful baseball and managing. Just pathetic. The marketing department has to be cringing and hoping nobody's paying attention. By the way, Masterson has beaten the reigning Cy Young winners in back-to-back starts. Although RA Dickey's not your typical winner and might...will more likely regress to his career norms. We are paying attention and will all year.
  13. Good line by Hawk: "We can't execute and we can't score." How many years is it in a row now, no matter who is the manager, we can't bunt?? Sox might as well not even try to bunt. No reason to try.

    2013 TV Thread

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) No, I wasn't a fan of the book. What a great line. Perfect timing and cadence.
  15. Time to trade Thornton to the Royals for Johnny Giavotella (sp). That's the trade we want. Throw in some money if we need to.
  16. This is a great thread. It's actually why I like this message board. You get a true feeling of somebody's personality in a thread like this.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:35 AM) Thoughts? Um, the Nationals are significantly better in every aspect. I think the days of the Sox getting fat off the nl (not sure what their interleague record the last two years is, but prior to '11 they feasted) are over. The nl has caught up big time. I don't feel crazy when I say the top 5 teams in baseball could all be in the NL. At no point did I feel like we were gonna beat the Nats the last three nights. Our starting pitching needs to pick it up big time.
  18. Robin IMO was great at the start of last season. He started to overmanage or micromanage the last 2 months. He needs to sit back and relax and let the boys play. Chill pill time for stoic Robin.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) Honestly, I'll bet this is because you're an out-of-towner. It actually makes sense, because Hawkeroo is like the Sox fan you DON'T get to hang out with all the time. I could actually see out-of-town Sox fans being much bigger fans of Hawk. Could be.
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 02:33 AM) Too early to say Washington is all that, IMO. I realize they're good, but Cinn handled them pretty well and they swept the AAAA Marlins. Oh, and the white sox. Getting swept sucks. We need to turn it around and fast. Got to win one game in a three game series even if the other team is way better than the Sox.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 02:11 AM) And outmanaged. Every single decision Ventura made backfired, seemingly. Don't you hate when, on paper, it figures we'd lose every game to a team, and we do? Woulda been nice to win one of these three.
  22. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 12:54 AM) 104 pitches to record 11 outs. Production, defined. That might be the stat of the century. Wow.
  23. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Beckham will have a built in excuse now if he comes back and struggles... Maybe that will loosen him up and he'll go to the plate like he has nothing to lose. I'd think it'd be difficult to hit with that type of injury.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) Are you on drugs? No. I like listening to Hawk n Stone a lot.
  25. Is our bench as weak as it has been in Sox history? Lot of no names.
