QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 02:46 AM) You don't think the Sox front office doesn't realize this? This is definitely not an "All In" season. Yeah, I think most of us agree this team is not exactly close to being able to compete with elite teams like Washington -- unless our pitching and defense clicks so amazingly well that we dominate. No signs of the pitching being elite yet. I kind of expect .500 with an upside of 8 over 500. Would be disappointed if we finish 10-15 below.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 02:54 AM) So can we go back to where Peavy walked the guy after the homer, and Ventura left him in? Did Peavy throw a fit when he got yanked? He still got pulled relatively early in the game for a starting hurler.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) Sure wasn't any conversation last year. Yeah, why are they being so nice to each other this year? Is it because it's so early in the season and the grind hasn't set in yet? Or did they hash things out?

Rios is starting to look like a guy the Sox should keep around for the duration. If the Sox trade him it might put him back in that old Rios funk that he shed long ago. For Rios' sake, and our team's sake, I'd keep him around. He looks comfortable at the plate and in the field and like he enjoys the game of baseball. Remember for a couple seasons straight he was a zombie out there looking like he was stealing money while moping around the diamond. Keep Rios.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 03:49 AM) This is such a good idea I might just get myself banned on purpose just to see what it looks like. 30 seconds in filibuster (the worst sub-forum in message board history) and I'm pretty much done I still don't know if I got 60 days for what I said in filibuster or a regular sports thread. I tend to be pretty fired up in filibuster.

DeAza is looking like a good leadoff hitter again. Time to get Tank going. I do realize he hit a game winning homer just 2 days ago, but we really need him to sizzle.

Didn't see the game except for Paulie's homer. Had work to do and only glanced at my puter at that time. Things in the box score that alarm me tonight. Point it out if I am mistaken to be alarmed. Peavy gives up 3 home runs? Only goes 5 1/3? Yikes. Matt gets torched. I'm to the point as a fan I wish he'd just pitch to one lefty hitter per game and that's it. A one-batter lefty maximum. Top of the order got a LOT of hits tonight. Rios, Kepp and DeAza 8 for 14. Of course that didn't alarm me, but pleases me.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 01:55 AM) This is neither here nor there but I was watching the Indians game today and MAAAAN was there some extended silence. One batter got to a 2-2 count before the announcers had said a word. It was weird and awkward. It wasn't petulant silence like Hawk, though. Not sure if that makes it better or worse. Great post. Hawk and Stoney's conversational style make(s) each and every game a pleasure for me to watch.

Did anybody watch the series, "The Bible?" I kind of enjoyed the last 2-3 episodes.

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 11:55 PM) Yeah, if anything I'd be telling... UNLESS I expected financial contributions for the wedding. I think this is important as well. If dad has to fork out big bucks for a wedding, it would be nice to ask/tell him. You mentioned golf. If you both like to golf, I'd do it that way. Ask him early in the round. Might be good bonding story later. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 06:41 AM) This is so awesome That really was an awesome, awesome caveman post.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 04:42 AM) No reason to not like this team. I am tired of the derrick rose team needs to be great on paper to care. If verlander's arm falls off the Sox are the best team in the division. Then what will fans b**** about. If the team keeps this up, it will be a likeable team. Home runs flying out of the park in mighty cold weather. Wait til it heats up. If we keep winning home series like that and play .500 on the road, we'll be in the pennant race all season again.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 06:01 PM) And people were freaking out because Axelrod was scheduled to face Felix. There's really no need to discuss matchups the rest of the year. We won a game in with Axe was matched against Money Man King Felix. So why would anybody worry about individual pitching matchups the rest of the year? It's baseball. Anything can happen. That was exciting Tank put an end to the game with one swing. Man, our Sox hit a lot of home runs on that first homestand. Wow.When the weather heats up, maybe Paulie will start launching some as well.

Southside Hitmen vs. Emerald City Munchkins
greg775 replied to Quin's topic in 2013 Season in Review
I will agree Rios has become one of the better hitters in the league. He has become very consistent. He looks so comfortable at the plate. Beautiful HR. And to think I despised him at one time. Let's win this game. We're playing a lot of close games again this year. Let's win 3/4s of the one-run games. -

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) How can Hawk be so far off? It was a line drive that landed foul and didn't even get to the warning track. Yeah, I meant Hawk. That ball wasn't even close to tying the game. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 08:39 PM) Hawk has absolutely no clue on deep fly balls How can he be that far off? He thought that was going to be a HR. And it led to the two of them saying how Beckham is going to be a star. I think the "star" ship has sailed on Beckham. He is a fantastic fielder, average at best hitter. -
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 08:11 PM) Whew, Keppinger just in all sorts of a hole to start the season. Seems like he's hitting a lot of weak fly balls. How bout some walks n singles?
-
Nice. Sox got the 4-1 lead to their closer at 4-3. One more inning.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) Way too much messing around with match-ups here. Just let Crain start the inning. Thornton's fastball looks dreadful still. I agree. Robin fell in love with the matchups thing the second half of last season.
-
What is Thornton doing? He knows better than that, that it was not his pop up to catch.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 07:39 PM) That's not necessarily what would worry you. A freddy garcia like pitcher throwing 90 mph can win a lot of ballgames. What worries one is paying this to Freddy Garcia: 2014 28 $22,857,000 2015 29 $24,857,000 2016 30 $25,857,000 2017 31 $26,857,000 2018 32 $26,857,000 2019 33 $27,858,000 I don't understand how teams justify paying that kind of money to one player. No one player is worth being paid 1/3 of the payroll of some entire franchises. I guess if the team has insurance it's OK in some cases. Look at Pujols. One year after signing ... is he worth it?

QUOTE (Andrew @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 07:25 AM) I have style? I've wasted tons of sentences whining about the need to put $ and resources into the draft over the years. Our farm is a perennial joke. I was one of the original Greg Walker haters on this site, before he was FINALLY let go. This team is a long shot - ...this.....this.... is not a good Chicago White Sox team. At all. And it's stupidly expensive. And we have nothing to trade. We have to ride out albatross contracts (Dunn and Rios), it's frustrating to watch them, yet I love them because of their laundry. I really don't like the players on this team. Most of them...not very good baseball players. Don't get me wrong - I'll still root for them to the end...but I won't say stupid ass s*** like you do.... And, unless this is WSI, I should be able grieve that whatever style and "constructive criticism" I have to offer, is exactly NOT what the Sox are interested in implementing. Oops. I know from past experience if you keep this up, you'll probably be getting 30-60 days in internet jail. Little nasty tone to your post. You said, "This is not a good White Sox team at all" and you really don't like the players on this team. The reality is the team is OK. The starting pitching is above average once Danks gets back and the relievers look rejuvenated this year (when they only go one inning). I think the team has pretty darn good defense, with the cold weather the reason our outfielders have made some big time blunders. Tonight was our first lousy loss of the season in four games. After rallying, we blew it by not wrapping it up in the bottom of the ninth and made a mistake letting Jones pitch a second inning. But the team is as good potentially as last year which means this is an above .500 team. It's not a bad team. Not a great one, but one that could contend in this weak division, though we won't be up for the wild card. So calm down in your posts. Don't worry. Be happy.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 04:22 PM) I'm awful with words, but this sums up what I have been trying to say the whole time. I don't understand the disapproval of Hawk. Like tonight's game. I watched most of it and the innings just fly by because he and Stone just talk. They don't "announce" and sound like professional enunciators. They just talk to me the Sox fan. I think he's great. And I think Stone is great too.

Did Lillibridge make a roster this year? Seems like our bench is pretty weak compared to past years and he coulda made this club.
-
Boy Tyler had a rough at bat. Just like that he gawn. I wish he'd have swung at that second pitch. Once it was 0-2 you had the feeling he was done. I hate losing extra inning games at home. Would have been nice to win a home game in which we didn't get a quality start. Oh well. 2-2 record. Would be nice to find a way to win Saturday's game and have a chance to win both series on this homestand.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 04:28 AM) You not a big Kep guy? He might slap a single to right and get on base?
