QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 11:58 PM) oh gawd, it's so damn hot. Whens summer gonna be over already? Don't wish for that. You can always cool down with A/C or a drink or your vehicle A/C, but there's nothing worse than those 50 below zero days in the winter or days with freezing rain. Summer rocks, baby!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 11:45 PM) Ozzie was the problem. His job was to find a way to get Rios to play. He did not. He failed. Same with Peavy. Same with Dunn. Robin has been successful at those things. His team is in first place. If Robin takes us to the postseason, I am going to back him in the future just as I back Ozzie. I look at the big picture. Let me ask you all .. let's say our team makes the playoffs this year and Rios returns to being a dog next year and Dunn sucks, etc., and we finish fourth, will you turn on Robin? My guess is some will. I will not. I LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE and Ozzie's body of work as he said in the Trib story today was admirable. Actually spectacular in my mind cause we won the WS.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 12:09 AM) How can you not love Rios? He's rich. Richer than Ozzie and YOU. You guys always pull out one thing I say and fail to explore the reasoning behind my overall stance on Ozzie.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:50 PM) Wherever did I say that? I can admit that last year Rios sucked, and Ozzie was a part of the problem. you can do no such thing, all you can do is repeat "Ozzie is rich. Ozzie won a world series. Cooper stabbed him in the back" I NEVER gave Rios a free pass. But looking at the player we are seeing now compared to what we saw the past few years, it is like seeing a completely different person. Please tell me, what changed between now and then, greg? Good at least you admitted Rios sucked and Ozzie was only part of the problem. As far as what changed between now and then? Maybe Rios decided to earn his money and play to his talent instead of stealing money. And I have said over and over Ozzie's time had probably run its course in Chicago. Robin's will run its course as well. Managers are hired to be fired. If Rios is performing better because big bad Ozzie is gone, fine. Good for Rios. I am not discounting this possibility; no way of proving it either way. But I will never give Rios a pass for his s***tiness before this season and just say it's on Ozzie like some would like to say.
-
To you Ozzie haters, Ozzie said it in the Trib, not me. So I can't get banned for use of Ozzie's words. Oz said: "It's not fair when I see a couple of idiots compare the team playing better because so-and-so isn't here,'' Guillen said. "I left this ballclub with a (.524) winning percentage, two postseasons and a championship. When people say stuff about me overrated and overpaid, that's funny. They don't have the guts to tell me to my face.'' How can you not love this guy? You tell me one other sports manager/coach who talks as candidly as this guy? I'd love to hear his take on Rios' improvement. It would be a doozy I'm sure.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:36 PM) Greg, you're wrong, move on, give it up, and shut up How could I be wrong? Seriously. Last time I looked Rios is the guy with the glove in his hand and bat in his hand. Ozzie Guillen is to blame for his s***tiness prior to this year? Telling me to shut up is not very nice.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:34 PM) Of course you do. I wouldnt expect anything else. So you are giving Rios a free pass for his s***tiness before this season and tossing your wrath to Ozzie instead? Before this is over, Ozzie is going to get blamed for this year's attendance woes.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) Hey, now you are seeing it isnt just these messageboard creatures that are pointing it out now. It is actually people that follow the game for a living. Pretty odd how that works, eh? I think it's ridiculous. I am going to lose a lot of respect for the good baseball minds on this board if they give Rios a free pass for his s*** seasons because he had incompetent ol Ozzie as manager.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) Right greg, at no time ever in the history of working under someone has the way a manager treated someone affected their performance. I'm saying it must be nice to be as gawdawful as Rios had been and be able to have people blame it on the manager. My god. It's ALL on Rios. He's the guy performing. What a convenient excuse for loafing and sucking. That Rios gets a pass on this amuses me. Blame it on Ozzie. Hilarious. Man I wish people could take years off at work in real life like Rios did ... and have those people keep their jobs cause of their bad upper management team. What a joke.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) It's the exact same argument with Ditka. Some people see that he won the only Bears Super Bowl & they like the personality. Others see that he had arguably the greatest defense in NFL history, yet only made one Super Bowl appearance with it. True. I have to admit I have a positive impression when I think of Ditka.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:19 PM) The point is, you can never have enough starting pitching depth. True or false? Nothing is guaranteed to go wrong, that's true. But if you keep pushing pitchers like Ventura has been, you just can't go on and on indefinitely without repercussions. Floyd, Humber and Danks have all been hurt this year, not to mention Crain twice. There's a sound reason that Washington and the White Sox are considering limiting Sale and Strasburg, even in the midst of a pennant race. Can you imagine if the Sox made it all the way to the WS? This Sale stuff would get really interesting if he's shut down for the postseason or something. Modern baseball/concern for arms ... gotta love it.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) It would be very simple to give something back with your parking stub. Like you could use use it for a free Coke and hot dog and/or a discounted beer and hot dog. Something to make you feel you're getting something back of value, like a cover charge with free drink/s attached. Then you don't feel like you're getting ripped off as much psychologically. And you feel better about supporting your team. That's a good simple suggestion that should be implemented. At least give people a free hot dog and small beverage with your parking receipt.

I'm glad Sale is getting the overwhelming response. It's Sale IMO.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) DKnobler @DKnobler Scouts still raving about Robin Ventura effect on White Sox: "I haven't seen Alex Rios play with this enthusiasm in three years." Alex Rios should not be praised for finally earning his money. Give me a break. It's on him for being a piece of crap last year and the other years he sucked. Kudos to him for this year, though. Must be nice to earn the kind of money Rios earns. Critics can say a new manager brought it out of him. That pisses me off. It's ALL ON THE MILLIONAIRE RIOS, not his f***ing coaches.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) Guillen gets credit for the World Series title, right? Then he also gets credit for the losses and lost seasons. Fair enough. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) I just want to point out you can't bleed White Sox red. White Sox black or white? Different story. I always put red because of the Sunday unis.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:05 AM) So...you've worked for your company for 28 years, you have a new GM for the last 8 or 9, why would your job status have ANYTHING to do with the GM? If you are the star employee but a specialist in your field, why should you quit or take one for the team or fall on your own sword because the GM of your company is having problems with the ownership (in this case, JR and KW)??? You're telling me you would quit to show symbolic support for Ozzie, when Ozzie wasn't even the one who hired you? After that same GM started renegotiating for a new contract without telling anyone what he was doing...and told everyone "let all the coaches sweat." What WOULD YOU DO GREG, in that same situation? Explain to me what Cooper OWED Ozzie there? If anything, he wanted to reconfirm his loyalty and desire to stay to JR and KW, and show he wasn't looking to leave to go anywhere else. Isn't being loyal to JR and the Sox a GOOD thing here? How is it back-stabbing? Ozzie backstabbed Jeff Cox, he just left him hanging out to dry and now he doesn't have a job, does he? Is Mr. Super Rich Ozzie paying for Cox's kids to attend their private school this year with him out of a job? I think not. Why do you think Baines is still coaching there, wasn't he a backstabber, too? No, they're both more loyal to the White Sox UNIFORM than any one single person or manager. Guillen was booed vociferously during an eighth inning pitching change, the loudest Cubs fans got on a sweltering night. He responded by pointing to his ring finger, a reference to his two World Series rings with the Marlins and White Sox www.chicagotribune.com/sports You are better than that. They are not loyal to any uniform. All these baseball guys are out for numero uno. I love Ozzie pointing to his ring finger there. That's one of the reasons I love Oz the personality. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) We could have had way more than just 2005 if Ozzie could STFU every once in a while, and put himself second, instead of first. All Ozzie is, is a realty show whore anymore. At least when he played baseball and first started managing, he seemed to care somewhat about the game. Now he is trying to bully 19 year olds to get a few more seconds on SportsCenter. Not only was it time for Ozzie to leave, the longer he is gone, the more I am convinced he f***ed us out of at least division titles, and maybe more, over his last few years. You can hate on Kenny and Coop, but they are still here, and guess what, the Sox are winning with half of the talent they had last year. Ugh. Now we're blaming Ozzie for not winning more WS titles or divisional titles? Cmon. It's not like the White Sox have any history of dominating baseball. I'll take the one WS in his regime. Hopefully Robin can do the same and he might. I like Robin. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) Will go to my grave saying that we'd have won the division if we'd actually played Anderson in CF as a regular starter rather than as a part time platoon player with Mackowiak's incredibly awful defense killing us out there. Yes, the advanced stats don't say it cost us more than a game or so...every time Mack was out there, he killed us. Brian Anderson is a stiff. A total stiff. Just another guy who couldn't make it in the bigs. QUOTE (soxmaniac! @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) ozzie's stubbornness when it comes to playing certain players is just awful. our CF defense in 2006 still gives me nightmares. honestly, there is no point in arguing about ozzie's baseball managing skills with greg. he cant even defend ozzie's managerial skills. he just loves ozzie the person, so he will defend him to the alter (somewhere greg is crossing his fingers) and all the way to death. Don't go there. Bad joke. I am not gay though as Seinfeld said there's ....

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 06:26 PM) By who? A 15 year old rabid Red Sox fan with access to a gamecube and MVP 05? That's all it takes now with Twitter and everything. Easy to plant bad rumors out there. Too many bloggers. Somebody will blog it or bite.
-
Great idea. Great blog. I'd assume you will eventually get a lot of publicity on this if you seek publicity. If I were you and if you want publicity, I'd email some of the TV reporters and writers. Their emails should all be available. They'd probably hit you up later in your adventure.

QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 02:00 PM) A sellout could give Kenny a little extra incentive to make another impressive move.. A sellout should give the Sox more incentive to have more half-price nights. Fans are speaking. The Royals had a huge crowd for dollar hot dog and drinks/fireworks night, bad crowds for all other games. Sox half price night ... sold out? Cmon baseball, make it affordable. I was talking to a huge Sox fan buddy of mine in Chicago. He said he simply won't pay the 24 buck parking or whatever it is. Will only go to games if he can get around that, etc. And he makes a good wage.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:49 AM) Why do you despise our WS winning GM and Pitching Coach? And what are you implying, Cooper sabotaged Ozzie his last season here or something..... I don't hate Ozzie, I will need a few years before I warm up to him but I don't understand why you defend him so much but not the guys that are still with us part of a first place team that probably should be worse than last seasons team given the amount of injuries/rookies. I don't despise them, but they have their faults, too, and like Ozzie were looking out for No. 1. I like all members of our current team, though currently I'm not crazy about Matt (Light me up) Thornton. Cooper went crying to Jerry or KW, I forget which one, wanting his new contract. In answer to your last question, I will defend the guys on our current team as well. I like this team.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 05:59 AM) The twinkle of his eyes and his electric smile have you in a trance Greg. Embrace logic. Let me try this one final time. Why do you folks despise our WS winning manager? Take out the "quitting on the team" and actions of his "kids" and you tell me what he's done so badly that makes you hate him. Don't forget this is a franchise with other villains like unlikeable Kenny Williams and the save-my-own-back-man, Mr. Cooper.
-
Of all the things you people hate that Ozzie has said, why can't you embrace what he said today? “I am a true White Sox,” he said. “Put it this way, 21 years with the same organization. Nobody can say (bleep) about me in the White Sox organization. Nobody. I am a true White Sox. I spent more years with the White Sox than anybody out there. The White Sox will always be in my heart.” How can you guys/gals turn on this man? He bleeds White Sox red.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 05:09 AM) Youkilis came straight from heaven for this team. I'm almost worried that he'll feel vindicated if he keeps doing what he's doing and eases off the pedal after this series. Hopefully Valentine kindly continues to supply material. Maybe call up a gas can loogy from the lowest level of their farm system to be an inning eater when they're getting blown out and have him wear #20. He sure did seem to come from heaven. I love grinders. He seems like he wants it so bad. I loved that game where he kind of got mad, but not really at Lexi, for hogging those pop ups by third base. I think he's one of those players who leads by example. He obviously wants to win. Boston has to be sick about giving him away for those 2 stiffs.
-
QUOTE (soxmaniac! @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 03:40 AM) does that mean he is better than everybody here and the criticism is irrelevant and null because of that? sure as hell seems like that is what greg implies. I think it's my way of pointing out that it matters not what you think of Ozzie or what I think of Ozzie. He's rich and in the large scheme of things it doesn't matter because if they fire him, he'll be fine.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) With that arm, it'd be worth a shot, especially if the Sox can't find another arm cheap enough. He won't be able to pitch for a while if he joins the Sox. He needs fixing and Coop will need some time to fix whatever is wrong with Sanchez. He quite frankly may be the worst player in Royals history and that's saying a lot.
