QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) Reed will get more work by not closing. It's probably a good thing. There's no point in having a rookie falling asleep in the bullpen because there aren't any save situations. Are the Sox going to suck that badly? Are we looking at last place???
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 09:09 PM) Yup and they're going to be absolutely f***ed in a couple years and it's going to be hilarious. Why are they going to suck in a couple years? They got some good players and appear to be adding decent players.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) And if he would have said that stuff, all we would have heard was b****ing about it being seasonal fluff. True. I would have seen it as fluff. But I do want the guy to hit 45 bombs this season or more and be great. A repeat of last year would be so bad.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) "OZZIE IS SAFELY OUT OF TOWN" What does this mean? That Oz would be a physical threat to him? No, that his main source of White Sox information and quotes is gone and he'll never need copy from him, interviews from him, etc. It's easy to blast the former manager/coach who you'll never have to see or deal with again. It would take guts to write columns blasting KW, Rios, Dunn, Jerry right now. Maybe he writes those type of columns as well. If so I apologize to him.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 08:29 PM) Pierre was only part of the problem, Thornton was getting hit hard when he was closing, s***ty guys where lining up with his fastballs. Straight fastball with no decent offspeed stuff is what Thornton offers. He's far more valuable as a reliever. I think he doesnt have what it takes to be the closer at least from the mental point of view. Thornton was lousy, but it might be wise to let he or Crain try it in April and let Reed work into it slowly. If Reed gets lit up and blows a couple saves the first week or in the home opener, it could be ugly for his confidence.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 04:58 PM) Even if you agree with Rozner's sentiments, and dislike Cowley heavily, it probably still needs to be said that Rozner's article lacks meat. Not really loads of supporting evidence here for his claims. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 05:14 PM) As much as I love the tone of this article, I kinda agree that it would have been a lot more powerful with more specific examples of Ozzie quitting. This is an example of a columnist (who is this Rozner guy anyway?) blasting big bad Ozzie WHEN OZZIE IS SAFELY OUT OF TOWN. He's writing for an audience that hates Ozzie. An audience getting ready to follow a team with a new manager. Great. Bu what did that column say? Oz is a clown? Where's the mention of Cooper and calling him a clown? Or Rios? Maybe he's written those before or will soon. If so, I apologize. It seems to me that column was damage control for when Ozzie erupts next IN ANOTHER NEWSPAPER. His paper is not getting the next eruption story from Ozzie, so just call him a clown and pretend the next story will not be newsworthy.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 10:58 PM) Because you were one of his only defenders and cheerleaders? Sox Ship Headed Into Headwinds? Some people jumped him, but it wasn't like a mob lynching or anything.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 07:23 PM) He was never a slow starter in a long career before coming to the White Sox. Career .275 hitter in April, but much, much lower than that in his 2 aprils on the South Side. And if he's not that good...well, he shouldn't have been playing and given the most at bats on the team. That's the craziest defense of the player you've ever given. "He's not that good, it's not his fault he had a terrible start, some crazy fool kept putting him in the lineup when he didn't deserve to play at all". Have you ever heard anything unprofessional about Juan ... any implication of any kind he wouldn't get himself ready to play? I mean now I've heard everything. The guy had a s***ty April or half April. Stuff happens. Our team was full of s*** performers. Everything I've heard about Juan is he is a pro.

Do Sox fans generally ride Kenny pretty hard at his Q and A? I would think the customers will be surly in asking him hard questions about this supposed half-rebuild/half try to contend thing he has going. Can somebody ask KW a ? for me? Q-What was the reasoning behind trading Santos after making the brilliant call to shift him from outfielder to reliever? He appeared to gain experience in the closer's role last year and in theory should be a reliable closer for the forseeable future. Why would you trade a proven closer for other pitching prospects when the closer positiion is vital to a team's success?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) Like in 2010 when we were in first place until Bobby Jenks decided to give up the season? He's not the only bullpen fail of late. Pick a reliever any reliever. Even Sergio blew 5-6 saves.
-
Can u imagine if Peavy, Danks, Floyd and Sale were great starters? We'd have a great season unless our always overrated bullpen wrecked it for them every game.

I love Hawk and love Rongey which begs the question. Why has Rongey stopped posting on here? It seemed like he enjoyed the discussion.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No way the Sox are getting this guy. Sox have no money to win any bidding wars this offseason (cue rip of KW for Dunn, Peavy, Rios wastes of dough). -
Maybe Fielder will suck ... just like another overpriced slugger who is overweight in the same division. Just saying, you never know.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 02:47 PM) I'll question it. Dude flat out did not come out of spring training ready to play baseball in either 2010 or 2011. However long he spent in the weight room, it did not prepare him to play baseball. How do you know he wasn't 'ready' to play? Maybe he's just not that good. Or he's a slow starter like Lexi?

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) I think he's one of the worst parts of the White Sox organization. A rambling, idiotic, bellowing, cliched, unprofessional fool. I long for the day he's put out to pasture. It's a shame I have to miss out on Steve Stone because of how unbearable his partner is. Until then, I make use of MLB Gameday Audio and listen to opposing announcers who at least have more of a clue than Hawk. Let's take your points. Hawk is ... • rambling: They have to fill the airtime. I don't think he rambles that much. • Idiotic: Why would you say that? He's played baseball, seen a lot of ball. Idiotic? I say no to that. • Bellowing: I like his home run call. • Cliched: Maybe, but aren't all announcers more cliched than Hawk? How can you say Hawk has no clue. He also actually criticizes the team some which NO OTHER team does except maybe the Cubs announcers too.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 06:12 AM) I don't post here enough to really know the personalities. Is greg775 a parody poster? I'm disliked because I back Ozzie big time and back some of the players who are (were) hated. Like Jenks, Jermaine, Wise, Pods, Juan Pierre, CQ, etc. And I don't like Kenny and blast Rios and Dunn a lot. I also praise Rongey and Hawk and Cowley and am disliked for that as well.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 12:50 AM) I guess I'm not sold on that premise. Many guys woefully underachieved last year. Who's to say. That said...I'm not expecting the world like last year...just saying it wouldn't surprise me if they came out and played well given the underdog status they are. Still a lot of solid pieces here IMO... Exactly. The way the current team stands, this is not rebuilding. No way.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 11:41 PM) And once again proves that Ozzie wasn't 100% focused with on the field stuff, which is ironic because Cowley ripped on Cooper for being worried about his future as well. I'm just happy one of the two between Ozzie and KW is gone, and now it's time for KW to step up to the plate and improve the team the next few years. If not, you better believe he'll be gone in a few years. If the Sox suck this year, I hope KW is canned after the season. I mean he made a couple offseason deals, big deal. If this team makes no more moves, it on paper again is a contender. If the team sucks, it's on KW. Fire him if this team sucks. Now if he makes 3-4 more trades, I will change this post. Then he can't be judged on this season's crap product.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 11:38 PM) I don't think any of them are traded. What's left to do this offseason involves Adam Dunn dropping another 10 lbs, Alex Rios working hard, 15,000 more swings for Gordon Beckham, and a lot of writing articles about how motivated Rios is for the year. There will be some ST fights fro those backup roles and for the last bullpen slot. I hope u are right. At least this current team has a shot to win the division in theory if everything went right. I want to win. I hate rebuilding.
-
You know it's a crummy offseason for the Sox, BTW, when the only headlines STILL involve Ozzie.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 11:25 PM) Rocky Wirtz? Every Chicago team other than the Cubs has won a title in the last 26 years. My bad on the Blackhawks finally winning one. Kudos to Rocky. I watched it and loved it.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 11:23 PM) De Luca seems to agree: ChrisDeLuca Chris De Luca Looks like a preemptive strike by Reinsdorf to end potential nastiness with Ozzie. Looks like Jerry follows Oz on Twitter. #whitesox 5 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Cowley will still get Oz to respond to Peavy's stuff. Oz in that piece surely will praise Jerry, though for setting the record straight finally on Ozzie.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 11:21 PM) If the Chairman had come out and ripped Ozzie for quitting, you wouldn't believe a word he was saying. I would have had to believe him. He's the owner of the team and has really done nothing to irritate me as a fan, except get snowed by Kenny. He is the only owner to bring titles to Chicago in my lifetime except the one title by the Bears. Kenny IMO brownnosed better than Ozzie and won that war. But I trust the chairman not to flat out lie. Oops the Blackhawks won one as well to go with chairmans' bulls/sox crowns.

I'm betting he deals Floyd and Thornton in minor transactions before ST. He'll get 4-5 minor leaguers for the two of them combined. Hopefully some minor leaguers who make the bigs at some point.
