  1. White Sox Bulls (kind of lost interest in the Hinrich years, however) Bears (frontrunner, however in recent years) White Sox currently are the only team I follow on a daily basis. Sadly I wait until the playoffs to watch every game possible of the Bulls and Blackhawks.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 04:41 AM) A serious question? Where? You haven't asked one yet. In my original post on the matter there were questions.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 03:20 AM) Dunn, Rios, and Peavy are the three main reasons we have no expectations of competing. If that's the case then it is absolutely sick that the Sox are keeping them and not just eating the money. Assuming all three are trash, the Sox are going to keep them around ... for what reason? Reading your post, keeping those 3 bums is a reason the team cannot compete. So why keep them? It would be better then to just eat those millions and millions of dollars. Instead of a Disco Demolition night, have a night where we burn their salaries with fake monopoly money. People get on me for being a troll yet I ask what I feel is a serious question and no responses. This team is FULL of veterans and we are assuming the team will completely suck. I guess that means we are like those old Baltimore teams that had some veterans but were out of it before the AS break every year.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 03:25 PM) Honestly, this is something you worry about if you are planning on competing this year. I kind of hate the fact we all know we're not planning on the Sox competing this year. To me, that's kind of sad when you have veterans like Paulie, AJ, Alexei, Dunn, Rios, who are all veterans on the team. Hell, Beckham is young, but even he has a lot of experience. And our starting rotation has some experience on it as well, led by Mr. Veteran Moneymaker Peavy. And our bullpen has a lot of experience to go with the rookie closer. It seems to me, unless KW makes more trades, this team in terms of raw age and experience should be EXPECTED to compete for a division title in this horses*** division (assuming Detroit doesn't go crazy again and win all those games). I hope I am making my point clear. Don't you agree with me that it's frustrating to have such a veteran team be considered a team that has no chance in hell of competing??
  5. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 16, 2012 -> 03:21 AM) Ventura might read that and reconsider. Ventura might be able to learn and adjust. Ozzie would just say I make the F*%#@ lineups! Then Ozzie would bat him 3rd and pinch hit him against lefties in crucial game situations. If managers had a WAR stat, Ozzie's would be -7. People tell me to get off the Ozzie train. Just thought I'd point out this post. It goes both ways. It grows old reading about Ozzie the current scapegoat. I hope people don't blame Ozzie for what happens on the field this year. As dumb as that sounds, I could see people continuing to blame Ozzie rather than the current cast of characters. It happens a lot in sports. At Kansas, the wacky Jayhawk fans still blame football coach Terry Allen for the current program's problems and he coached about 20 years ago. And they blame a former athletic director two regimes removed, for the current s*** state of the program.
  6. I'd take EJ back in a heartbeat, though he does work awfully slow. He'd be an innings eater, however, and we need one to replace Mark.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 01:12 AM) For f***'s sake, can one of the admins please ban Greg? He seems like a perfectly nice guy, but I simply can't take anymore of his naïveté and ridiculously-biased pro Guillen comments. GREG - KW DIDN'T WIN THE "WAR", OZZIE JUST SURRENDERED LIKE A BIG f***ING p**** Life is not about people agreeing with u all the time. Read the last 4-5 responses. People disagreed with me but gave me some thought-provoking things to consider.
  8. After reading Rogers' article, it seems like the Chicago media is sick of the Sox like many of the fans. My guess is most people believe Kenny has jumped the shark and like me, think the wrong guy won the war between KW and Ozzie. Sox are going to have to prove a lot on the field and in acquiring good players in the next 2-3 years. I would think only the true die-hard fans would buy tickets to see the Dunn/Rios White Sox.
  9. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 02:41 PM) I too think Alex Rios will have a bounce back season next year. There's no way in hell I would trade Rios for Soriano. I don't think Kenny Williams would either. Rios would have to overachieve big time to have more than an average season by good centerfielder standards. And we know he isn't going to overachieve, not in his current $$$comfort$$$ zone. So all we can hope for is .260 at best with about 15 home runs max and about 70 ribbies max. If we could somehow dump the guy, I'd take DeAza out there anyday. He'd put up similar numbers (at worst) for 1/75th the pay. Not that I care about lining Jerry's pockets with more money. Did he raise parking again?
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 02:49 AM) Statistically Rios played one of the worst Cfs in all of baseball last year. I hate watching Rios play the outfield. He is good to flat out drop a handful of fly balls a year, ala Soriano. Man, I hate the fact he is a White Sox. We aren't winning anything as long as he is playing for us. He's just like Jose Guillen the former Royal loafer/team ugh. Hopefully Robin will bench him since everybody on here thinks Ozzie only played him to spite KW. If that's the case truly, hopefully Robin will sit his ass the first time he loafs.
  11. Through this topic, I just learned I still have some hope for Dunn. In thinking of the trade, I actually thought Dunn might turn it around with the Cubs and I can't see Soriano doing anything of note with the Sox except swing that horribly big bat and miss most of the time or pop the ball up. Cmon Dunn. Hit 45 homers this year. We'll prolly win the division if you do.
  12. Marlins are trying to win; Sox are .... Bring back the good ol days, baby.
  13. Why do the Sox only talk deals with the Blue Jays? Spread it around, Kenny.
  14. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 05:11 AM) Lol your perception of reality is just terrible. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 05:13 AM) I know it's only January 3rd. But I nominate this for worst post of 2012. I don't even need to wait the remaining 362 days to see if somebody tops this one. I'm just telling you guys what they are saying in Kansas City, uh, another fan base of a team in our division. Don't shoot the messenger.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 12:59 AM) I surveyed 100 people in Kansas City, & 95 of them thought JD was a great guy and should still be on the White Sox. Royals fans I talk to are amazed at the Quentin trade. They see it as a real player dealt for 2 lousy prospects. I don't know why you guys don't care to know the perception of the White Sox in Kansas City. The Sox are currently seen as a joke. The Quentin trade is the latest head-scratcher. I had several people ask me if Sox fans were furious. I said, "Not the ones I know. They love the trade. They hate Quentin and love whenever we get guys with no track record. Our fans love the unknown." They are AMAZED we gave Quentin away for nothing. They asked me if I was upset at the trade. I said of course I was.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 05:55 AM) So one scout doesn't like him? One liked him; one didn't. Writer only talked to 2.
  17. I was catching up on my post-holidays Chicago newspaper reading and spotted a Phil Rogers column on Dayan Viciedo. Rogers wrote ... "A National League scout called him 'a poor man's Pablo Sandoval,' and he didn't mean that as a compliment. "Not big on him,'' he said. "He's no outfielder, that's for sure. Has arm strength. Poor at judging fly balls. … Could start for a second-division team.'' That's exactly what he's likely to do." Now earlier in the Rogers column, it was written "One International League manager compared him to Vladimir Guerrero, saying he's a proven 'bad-ball hitter.' Another said 'the ball just jumps off his bat,' which was what seemed to be the case in 2010 when Ozzie Guillen nicknamed him "The Tank.'' And yet another called him the best pure hitter in the International League. 'Hits for power, hits for average,' he said, citing his aggressiveness as a double-edged sword. 'You have to make sure he gets himself out, set him up. He's a bad-pitch hitter.' So do you guys think Tank is a star in making, or a stiff in making? I always liked the guy during his limited at bats. I hope he's a hard worker. Some of these guys I would hope are starting to pick up a bat and do some running leading up to spring training.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 05:22 AM) Exactly. Wtf do the Padres need CQ for? He'll negate any offensive value by playing league-worst defense in one of the biggest outfields in the nation. He'll hit fewer homeruns (maybe 20, unless he plays a full season for the first time in his career) and they'll have to pay him $8m to do all of it for a third or fourth place team. And they gave up two pitching prospects for that right. I'm no CQ hater, but the Padres are probably one of the worst fits in the MLB for him. It appears to be the worst possible fit. It'd be nice to see him in another HR hitter's park.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 03:53 AM) He's only under control for one more year, what is so hard to understand here? That KW has no vision. If this is all we could get for CQ, we could have traded him last season IMO.
  20. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 04:37 AM) Yes there is, because players aren't hitting home runs at the rate they previously were. Carlos isn't exactly the slowest player in the world and he was at least average with the glove this past season. His injury problems really are what killed the Sox and his trade value I'd have to believe. I just can't understand the defense of Kenny on here. The Quentin trade sucked IMO. It's a no brainer to say it sucked. I guess nobody on the Sox we ever trade is worth a s***. To get two hack pitchers for CQ seems pretty lousy to me. Carlos arguably was the second best hitter on the White Sox last year. I guess our organization is THAT BAD if our second best hitter can't get us a haul of anything but two players who in the words of our own Dick Allen are "garbage."
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 02:32 AM) Adam Dunn can do that too. I sure as hell hope so. Last year he drove about 13 balls over the fence if I remember correctly, meaning Lillibridge would have been a much better DH than Dunn. I'm just disappointed in the dissing of Carlos Quentin on this site. You'd think the guy's production was that of Adam Dunn or Alex Rios for gosh sakes. I mean if you are going to get two scrubs like the ones the Sox got for CQ, why didn't they just deal him last year when a contender may have needed some pop in its lineup and actually given us a player or two who might be useful?
  22. The value is that he's one of the few guys in our order who can, uh, drive the baseball and maybe scare a pitcher just a little bit.
  23. BTW, I think I'd shut up on this argument, if the future lovers would just admit what Dick Allen alleged: This was a salary dump and in Dick Allen's words we received "garbage" in return. Admit that, and I'd prolly be willing to move on, though it does piss me off when Sox fans mock an all-star and a gamer like Quentin. At least the man gave all out effort and got on incredible hot streaks, unlike the loafer, Rios, and Mr. Whiff (so far), Adam Dunn.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 01:08 AM) It isn't 2008 Greg, Carlos Quentin is literally a mediocre hitting DH (his hitting stats are equivalent to that of an average DH) that can play the outfield (poorly I might add). What kind of value does that really bring to teams, especially NL teams? You can't tell me CQ at 29 doesn't have great bat speed and isn't still a great prospect. I just read an article saying SD wants to lock him up with a multi year deal. So now we go with DeAza, Rios and Tank? With Lilly as the 4th outfielder? I am hoping for the best. I think the loss of CQ is HUGE to our lineup though. HUGE.
  25. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 02:01 AM) whahahahahhaaaaaaaattt!? using STATISTICS? I thought you agreed with "statistics be damned!" you also used your statistics badly. you proved the antithesis of your point... since you showed that Quentin never played a full season in his career. He's missed some games because of injury, yes he has. We're allegedly pretty deep in the outfield (til dealing CQ and til Rios decided to loaf again) so no biggie. I'm not saying he's Cal Ripken in terms of durability. I am saying he is an all-star, a "name" baseball player who could have gotten us some good players had we dealt him last season or had a good GM who could have gotten us some value, not two fringe prospects NOBODY in baseball is excited about. That's all. Nice trade, Kenny.
