  1. The Sox dump yet another player I like. I'm glad for Carlos he gets to go to an area where he has a lot of history. I like the guy. When he gets hot ... he rakes big-league pitching. I think of CQ I have positive feelings. Another of my faves gone. Amazing. I do truly hate KW.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) As I said, the rebuilders should be thrilled with this trade. Just thrilled. Of course in a couple of years they will be pissed off. One thing is for sure, KW just f***ed Quentin out of at least a few million. Going to SD isn't going to help him cash in on a contract. Great post. The rebuilders IMO pretty much will accept any trade as long as it's dealing a name player who makes a bit of money for no names. I don't know why some people are so interested in saving Jerry money. Pay that parking fee; pay for your 10 dollar beers next season. What does a fan get when the Sox save payroll money? Discounts? Yeah right.
  3. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 11:04 PM) Yeah. I also don't think the drop off will be too significant. Rios and Viciedo are capable of hitting at least 25 HRs. De Aza is an upgrade defensively and offensively over Pierre. I'm not too worried about power coming from our OF. I just want to see Viciedo get better as a hitter playing every day at the MLB level. I should be interesting seeing De Aza every day too. Hell, if Rios hits .250 with 25 HR and 65-75 RBIs that would be a huge upgrade from his terrible performance of last season. IMO the key to our offense is Adam Dunn. Ugh Rios banged 13 home runs last year. His career norms do not suggest him hitting anywhere close to 25 bombs next season. I'd expect about 15 hrs if he has a bounceback year.
  4. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) I don't see this team returning to the playoffs while KW is still GM. He's NOT the GM to rebuild this roster. It's like the Sox are trying to suck. Couldn't KW have gotten more for CQ had he dealt him at the winter meetings? How could anybody buy season tickets for this team? Maybe a 10-game package if they have those. If I lived in Chicago, five games a summer would be more than enough trips to the Cell to watch this s*** develop.
  5. Always good to see Kenny trade a name player for guys nobody has ever heard of. Nice job, Ken. Keep selling those season tix.
  6. Fourth place. Hope I'm wrong. It's time for this team to wake up and show some life.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) Just off ERA alone, Danks has a 3.77 ERA since 2008. Mark's ERA since 2008 is 3.88. Danks has also had more fWAR than Buehrle over that time period, even though Buehrle has thrown more innings during that timespan. Add in the 6 year age difference and it's a no brainer that I'd rather give the $14 million to Danks. I know you like to relish 2005 and Mark has been the face of this franchise for the past decade. But moving forward, Danks is the much better option to give a big contract to. The Marlins are going to be overpaying Buehrle by quite a bit in 2-3 years. I think Mark helps other pitchers as well. His approach is the best in baseball. Perhaps in baseball history. Get it and throw it. Move the ball around. IMO Sox should have paid him.
  8. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 02:46 AM) I am so glad that the quitter is out of town... The quitter that gave me the only WS title of my lifetime and I don't think many of us will see another one. I'd like to know the odds of the White Sox winning another title in the next 40 years. Not flaming. I just want the exact odds assuming baseball payrolls will only go up and up and up.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 05:10 AM) Danks is 26 and he's been a better pitcher than Mark over the past 4 seasons. There's a huge difference. Man. I'll just have to say I violently disagree. Mark has been awesome.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:17 AM) Good stuff. Clearly, there's a difference of opinion on Molina's stuff. We've seen fastball velocities ranging anywhere from 89-96. There have also been some scouts projecting with time/maturity/filling out physically that his "consistent" velocity can pick up into the 92-96 MPH range as he gets older. Not quite as much about the movement, which is equally important. Seems, from his stats, that he's missing quite a few bats, one of the biggest issues for Danks when he's off. At the risk of overreacting from one video or being called a jerk ... did anybody else watch that one video of Molina and it appear that he has no fastball?
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:38 AM) You'd pay him $14 million a year to stay? For 4 years no less? Mark's probably my favorite baseball player and there's no way in hell I'd want him back at those rates. It's all relative. Look at what the Sox are paying Danks. Some might say he is not worth that amount of loot as well.
  12. 2011 was an utter disaster for the Sox. The record was way better than the way most fans felt about that team. Outside of opening day there were precious few highlights. Predictably, it ended badly with Ozzie. Predictably, it ended very sadly with Mark. It's inexcusable to let him leave the team. Here's hoping Dunn wakes up and earns the money this year. You'd think about now he'd start busting his ass. He's had enough time off. Starting Jan. 1, start working out, Mr. Big Contract. Thank you.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 06:18 AM) Greg, what solution do you have to the Dunn/Rios dilemma? Bench both of them for the entire season? They're not building around Dunn and Rios anyway, they're building around the pitching staff (outside of Peavy/Thornton/Floyd) as well as Morel, Beckham, Viciedo, DeAza, Flowers, Lillibridge, etc. Hopefully Mitchell or Walker emerge as a future leadoff hitter (CF/LF). Escobar and Martinez for the middle INF. Marinez (from FLA) hasn't been mentioned often as a bullpen candidate very often, but he figures into that equation well...as he could allow Stewart/Axelrod/Santiago and Molina to get valuable "maturation" experience as a starter in the minors. I'm all for playing Dunn/Rios and seeing if they can turn it around. My point is since we're stuck with them I'm in favor of tinkering, not rebuilding.
  14. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 12:52 AM) Ozzie has been indisputedy proven a liar. For a long time, I was torn and supported Ozzie. Then his own, accidentally and prematurely released, announcement of his acceptance of the Miami job sealed it. After that, any doubts in my mind about his priorities being, first, money, and, second, using the Sox to make KW look bad were cast aside. Once those doubts were gone, using the retrospectoscope to review the season made Ozzie's line-up decisions easy to comprehend. Ozzie's position on things change day to day. He's a motormouth who says whatever he wants. Some of you IMO think he has some patterned agenda. He's just a talkaholic. I find that refreshing.
  15. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 04:00 AM) That seems impossible. Time needs to slow the eff down! That's amazing that ST is just around the corner. Looks like Kenny is tinkering rather that totally rebuilding. I'd have to say I'm in favor of it. On paper AGAIN we have a good pitching staff and with Dunn and Rios it seems silly to put all young guys around them. Everybody needs to have a career year and get the Sox back in the playoffs.
  16. ND quarterback is transferring to Kansas. What will he do for Kansas next year? Team is coming off a 2-10 and has fairly lousy talent, especially compared to Big 12's better schools.
  17. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Dec 25, 2011 -> 01:04 AM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ws&c_id=cws In other news, Dunn has lost 20lbs and is in the best shape of his life, Rios has been hitting off a tee 12 hrs a day, the check is in the mail, etc LOL. Great line. At least most of us realize these stories are all fluff. I know we all want Beckham to excel but get ready for more on Gordon in all the papers and Dunn and Rios. They all are gonna be rejuvenated.
  18. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 26, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) Well, there is a mountain of evidence that Ozzie is petty and more concerned with his own squabbles than anything else. That much, to me, is not debatable. Given that, I couldn't think of a better explanation of why he was placing Dunn in the situations he did late in the season. Do you really think Ozzie is above playing someone in a suboptimal position to prove a point? I think there are no lengths to which Ozzie WOULDN'T go to prove a point if he felt disrespected. He's made it clear that his "honor" is more important than anything else. That said, I'm not as much of an Ozzie hater as many, and I wish him well in Miami. It might be a situation more suited to his talents (he really wanted to manage an NL team anyway). My position on Dunn/Ozzie is simple. Many disagree with it. Dunn made some astronomical amount of money last year. Ozzie played him a lot and batted him in the meat of the order all year. Dunn failed miserably. How there is some Ozzie/devil thing going on regarding Dunn baffles me. He played the guy a lot and the guy failed. I mean it's unfortunate Dunn was pathetic, but IMO Ozzie supported him pretty well; he played the guy.
  19. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 26, 2011 -> 12:37 AM) I'm used to not really getting too much for Christmas, but I got a new laptop, a ukulele, a new Bunny rabbit to replace our old one that died a year ago almost to the day, Also gifted myself a 27 game Sox plan. Also getting license un-suspended this week. Probably the best Christmas gift-wise in all of my 25 years. I'm giddy like a little child. Why was your license suspended? Be careful with your newfound license freedom. John Law is always out there. Merry Christmas one and all. I'm at Midway Airport right now, terminal B in case anybody wants to come and punch me for my years on Soxtalk. I can even buy you a meal in the foodcourt.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 25, 2011 -> 08:10 AM) I think Ozzie did that intentionally. I think he was putting Dunn in the worst spots possible to screw with him and to set him up for failure because he did not like Dunn nor what he represented to the White Sox and it was his way of getting back at Williams for giving him a team he did not want. Yes, I think Ozzie is that petty and shallow. Ugh. This is all part of the sports cliche. Blame the manager. Too easy to blame the players or uh, the guy who acquired the players. You think Ozzie did that intentionally? wow. Yeah Ozzie is the devil. And this has nothing to do with my opinion of the Dunn family situation. If his child is sick, prayers go to them.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 23, 2011 -> 01:07 AM) With how much certainty can you say we're not going to be competitive this year? Stranger things have happened, like 2000, 2005 and 2008. All of those seasons came out of low or lowered expectations. I'm not going to Vegas and betting on it happening, but you can never completely count the Sox out of the AL Central race any season either. But yeah, Viciedo has to play everyday, period. If Dayan is a franchise type player like many thought he was, and we keep the rotation in tact the rest of the way and Dunn loses 25 pounds and Beckham gets his head out of his ass and Lexi has a bustout year, yes we could contend. There's no reason to totally tear the team apart.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) Then that Sergio trade was foolish, incredibly foolish. Kenny should be fired over the Sergio trade unless Addison is the real deal as closer.
  23. That piece, once again, paints Coop as a creep. Don't kill the messenger. Just the take I got from reading it. s***, Danks is on the record in the story.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) Then they shouldn't make a trade for the sake of making a trade. Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Humber, Sale is a major league rotation that can win if everything goes right. If they have a rotation with Axelrod and Stewart, they're not winning. They worry about attendance so why not at least sell a little hope with a pretty good rotation and see where they are in June/July. Great post. It amazes me how so many want to shred the roster just to tag the team as officially "rebuilding." Shredding the roster will mean more than 10 years of horrible records on the southside. The team will be out of business by then. No good attendance figures at the Cell from this point on unless the team is good. Why do so many people just want young guys who suck on the field? At least with flavum's plan we COULD win. This team supposedly is built on pitching and home runs anyway.
  25. Sounds like Kansas is getting an old guy set in his ways. I guess he will be the offensive coordinator here, so that assures bad running game according to what you all said. I'd suspect KU's best season(s) under Weis would be .500. Is that a correct assumption? Remember, every year Ks has to play Okla. Ok State, Texas, West Virginia, TCU, K-State. I guess there's a chance he could get the program to equal with some of these teams like Iowa State, KState, maybe TCU, Baylor?
