  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 11:17 PM) You do realize YOU have been saying for months that you believed Ozzie quit, right? And btw JR might have told him to go but it doesn't mean that he didn't quit way before that. I don't care if Ozzie quit or not, but a lot of people on here sure do. So they owe Oz an apology. The Trib has a full story up on it. Ozzie lost the war to Kenny. Jerry wanted him to go and Ozzie left. I couldn't care less if he quit or not, but now it's out he didn't quit. Vindication for Oz.
  2. Ha! The chairman Reinsdorf issues a statement saying Ozzie never quit!! Cowley is tweeting like mad about it. I wish the haters would issue Ozzie a heartfelt apology right now. The chairman told him he HAD to go to Miami by the end of the season. This kills the ammo of some of the haters. Cowley is ripping the haters on Twitter.
  3. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) Hawk actually being realistic and somewhat critical? Weird. He'll be back to the normal, awful, embarrasment of an announcer soon enough I'm sure. Wow. I'm glad he's the Sox announcer. I think he's great.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) So Adam Dunn lost 30 pounds. I suppose it's so it's easier for him to "hit his weight", or at least, hit HALF of his weight. Oh boy. Are the weight articles coming out already? Sentences like: "Dunn is in the best shape of his life. He has lost a whopping 30 pounds. The secret? Just eating better," Dunn said. On and on.
  5. Are you guys saying you are glad Mark is gone? How could anybody take that position?
  6. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:35 AM) How was Kenny supposed to know Dunn was gonna be that bad, that was a great addition at the time and should of had us set for a run as WS contenders. Or biggest need from the previous season was a LH/DH he got that. Our biggest need going into the 2010 season was a lead off hitter, he got that in Juan Pierre..though the Kotsay/Jones DH platoon was a bad move, but wasnt it Ozzie that wanted it? He then got Manny Ramirez who when healthy was raking in LA so just like Dunn this looked to be a great move, he didnt know that he all of a sudden wouldnt produce. They made the playoffs in 08 so it would seem that major changes wouldnt be needed in 09, a year in which he got Dayan Viciedo who everyone loves. They made the playoffs in 08 after a terrible 07 as i said before 07 was terrible but KW did manage to get us Floyd and Danks that year 06 they were just coming off a WS championship and KW added Jim Thome to the mix I wouldnt say hes been great, but i for sure wouldnt say hes ran this team into the ground the last 5 years. He's done a horrible job since the title season IMO. He continued the fine Chicago tradition of not being able to sustain success (with the exception of Sir. Michael's Bulls dynasty!)
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) I don't recall ever hearing about Mark coaching other pitchers. He led by example. The smart ones copied his style of working quickly and ignored the style of Edwin (snail's pace) Jackson. Mark had the balls to take the ball and deliver it quickly. It was always on his terms.
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) It's very telling that he listed Ozzie being funny first, before claiming he was a good manager in his list of reason why he loves Ozzie... I gave reasons for loving his personality. Baseball shouldn't be rocket science, except to those of your who just love and worship everything about Sabes.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:17 PM) In your post, you say that Ozzie is as good a manager as you can find, but earlier you said the manager doesn't matter? I believe you have predicted that Ozzie will win a WS in Florida because he will keep improving as a manager. It made no sense for the Sox to give Mark the same amount of money that Miami did, no one else gave him such a large contract offer. He wasn't really offering a hometown discount like last time, he took the highest contract offered to him. Not really sure how that constitutes "very very sick". Mark deserves every penny. He's like having another coach on the team with his great approach to pitching. I think it is ridiculous the Sox didn't ante up the money. Thanks Kenny for giving the cash to Rios and Dunn and Peavy. Nice moves all.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:42 AM) I dunno, the fact that we're knowingly rebuilding? QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 10:21 AM) So if the manager doesn't matter much, why do you give Ozzie all the credit for 2005? 1.) The way it stands right now, with the roster as is, this team is not rebuilding. Now if more deals are made, maybe u could call it that. You got Konerko (veteran) at first, Lexi (vet) at ss, AJ (vet) at catcher, Rios (vet in center), Dunn (vet) at DH; tons of veteran pitchers. How can you say the team is knowingly rebuilding. With Morel and DeAza and Tank and Sale and a couple young relievers? Humber/Zach is not rebuilding. Those are going to be journeymen type pitchers at best. 2.) I never gave Ozzie all the credit for 05. You guys make up so much stuff about what I allegedly say and feel. People have accused me of backing the 05 players too much. I support Ozzie cause he simply, makes me laugh my ass off in interviews. He is hilarious and is as good a manager as you can find, as well. When he did the hulk gesture to bring in Jenks ... that was hilarious and what sports should be about. Not serious all the time and teams charging 50 bucks for parking and 10 bucks for a beer. And the more I think about it the more pissed I get at the Santos trade and getting rid of Buehrle. Letting Mark go is very very sick and sad.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) They could also get lucky and wind up having Dunn give up and retire if he can't play any more. That would be awesome but very unusual with him getting paid as long as he shows up.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 04:43 AM) In no particular order: KW JR Adam Dunn Barack Obama Sounds good to me. I'm not going to get all over Robin cause a.) I don't think the manager matters much; if we have a bad team his decisions are really going to look back just cause the players failed him. b.) everybody says he's a good baseball man and good person. I really hope several of the Sox overachieve. Last season it looked like it was a chore for those guys to go to the ballpark everyday with some exceptions (Paulie, AJ, Mark, dare I say Pierre, CQ).
  13. I just hope the Ozzie haters don't find a way to blame the upcoming season on him. Seriously I don't know what some people are going to do if/when the team heads south this season. Who are the Oz haters going to blame?
  14. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 05:27 PM) Ozzie quit with 164 games left on his contract. What proof do you have of that? The team was horses*** last year. I blame the players.
  15. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) It's kind of funny even Ozzie likes JR but yet Greg constantly is bashing ownership and calling KW the winner. Having the type of season we had last year and being forced to trade players for payroll reasons is hardly winning, also offering to resign from your job is hardly winning..... It's at the point a person becomes so irrational that you know they can't be serious, hell why would someone post on a message board when 95% of the members considers you an idiot/troll. Cause all I really disagree about are certain players everybody else hates and Ozzie.
  16. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 05:50 AM) Can you follow Ozzie to a Marlins board? Every single post by you is about how great Ozzie is. My goodness you are annoying. Another lie. This thread is about Ozzie so naturally I'd comment about it. Why wouldn't I? Look at the title of the thread. What are you talking about??
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 03:15 AM) That mostly sounds like you're a fan of particular players. And being a fan of individual Sox players makes me ... guess what? A SOX FAN.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 01:13 AM) There is no way you are a Sox fan. Are you crazy? South Side Hit Men. Richie Zisk, Eric Soderholm, Jim Spencer, Chet Lemon, et. all. LaMarr Hoyt should have been pitching Game Five and we beat the Orioles. But noooooo ... Jerry Dybber makes the dumbest baserunning mistake of all time. Chet Lemon making the greatest catch I've ever seen. Steve Trout. Frank Thomas, Ozzie Guillen, Robin Ventura, Wilbur Wood, Mark Buehrle, Bobby Jenks, Harry Caray, season tickets sitting in the fifth row right behind the plate, my dad's business partner being one of the huge group of owners of the team back in the day. No, I'm not a Sox fan. And of course the title season. Best postseason run in history. Also, Ralph Garr, Jim Essian, Wayne Nordhagen, J.C. Martin, taking part in a watermelon eating contest on the Fourth of July when they had contests on the field between games of a DH; Ken Brett. But I'm not a Sox fan.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 12:33 AM) Why can't you...like Ozzie, let it go? Just move on. Ozzie is one of the most immature sports professionals I've ever witnessed. If he's not being petty and vindictive himself, he'll use one of his sons to do the dirty work. Absolutely pathetic and unprofessional. He'll be talking smack about Kenny and the Sox until the day he dies because he's a 14 year old boy in a man's body. Peavy started this one. More later on the other questions.
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) A BIG PART OF THE REASON THEY PLAYED LIKE s*** WAS BECAUSE OF OZZIE. HE WAS A VIRUS THAT HAD TO LEAVE. Clear enough!?!?!? Clear. But why do the Ozzie haters continue to bash him for "quitting?" You agree apparently one of the two had to leave. It was Ozzie. Who cares if it was with a few days left in the crap season? If I'm to like Kenny again, I want to see him actually make a trade that doesn't make me feel ill.
  21. And as an Ozzie lover I took no offense to what Peavy said. He has the right to say Ozzie quit. But I'm just saying it was obvious only 1 of the 2 would be back this season, Oz or Ken. Ken was the choice of Jerry. The semantics of leaving a few days early? Who gives a f***? It was time to take the Marlins job and let Mr. Controversy, Coop, take over and see what he could do.
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 11:25 PM) You clearly don't care about an organization with class, or winning. How come nobody outside of Chicago thinks Ozzie has no class? They see him as a WS winning manager, who is funny (cue all his postseason TV gigs).
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 11:20 PM) I don't know why I continue to respond to you but you support a guy who you believe quit on your favorite team...get a f***in clue. Hey the way the Sox were playing, I truly do not care Ozzie left with a couple games left in the season. The organization made it clear they'd chosen KW over him. The 2 could not coexist. I don't care what was said publicly. I can't wait for the next Cowley story when perhaps we learn what really happened at the end. I'm crediting the Kenny lovers. I said KW should be proud. He won. He defeated Ozzie. One had to go and KW won. Good for him. Ozzie is just fine where he is now. My favorite team? Embarking on some dark years I'm afraid, not the fault of Ozzie.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 11:18 PM) If I could punch Ozzie and Oney in the face my life would be so much better. You must be good with your fists, because I'd take Ozzie in a fight with a lot of people. I can picture Ozzie kicking some major ass ... unless you are a boxer/MMA/true southside bruiser type of guy. Ozzie I have a feeling has been in some fights in his life and would not back down. I just don't understand the Ozzie hatred.
  25. I'm glad Ozzie is going to speak some more. I hope he makes Jerry and the front office look so bad. I mean grown people are acting like Ozzie was welcome back one more year, the final year of his contract, etc., cause that was the company line and they say Ozzie "quit" with two games left with the Sox 29 games out of first place. I've maintained all along KW won this war. So what if Ozzie technically "quit" with 1-2 days to go, to take a much better job w/job security? Please. The 2 hated each other. Kenny won. Case closed. Speak, Ozzie. I want to hear more about this. p.s. The difference between the Ozzie lovers and haters IMO is we lovers don't give a f*** what Ozzie says publicly. The haters tend to look at all his sentences (of which there are a zillion) and study them religiously. I took Ozzie's statements as great theatre, great fun. Many of you took them and got mad.
