Cubs are getting a lot of press these days. I kind of wish the Sox had a do-over and named Tito. Robin coulda been 3B coach or bench coach to be groomed. s*** I'd like him to be hitting coach. Robin had a nice swing and approach.

Congrats to Mark, a special player. Do yu guys think any way the Royals will make a bid for him? He's exactly what they need if they wish to do squat next season.

Now this is the way to run a coaching search. According to Joe Strauss, St. Looie to interview Francona (who should be our manager if we were serious about winning anything ever again), Oquendo, Sandberg, Joe McEwing, Chris Maloney and Mike Matheny. They bring in the stud in Francona and see if the interview process makes them fall in love with the other guys. Look for St. Looie to hire Tito IMO. Cause he's got titles already.

I'd like to see our hitters bash line drives to the opposite field once in a while, but I've learned to not expect much of that. Our victory formula seems to be the long ball, so how bout a return of tons of home runs?

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) It won't matter who's coaching, the team will still be bad. There's no one scenario aside from the White Sox retaining Walker that would have led to any sort of reaction from me. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) Let's be positive until they show us there is no reason for any joy Do we feel any better about the manager and coaching staff now that it's settled in? This is the first time in a long time I'm not in any hurry for the season to arrive. I don't see any scenario where we have an excellent team.

From Wikipedia ... Manto's nickname in his playing days was "Mickey Manto" which derives from the baseball legend Mickey Mantle.[2]

Frank Thomas: I could be the White Sox hitting coach.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) His legacy survived the post-2005 firing. Yes but look at Ozzie. To those of us Ozzie lovers it hurts badly to see him get shown the door. I know ... I know ... he resigned. Hiring former players usually ends badly. -

That is true. It is a huge risk to hire a Sox player cause feelings will be bad when he gets fired. It's a huge huge risk to ruin the player's legacy with the fans. -
Are people finally going to admit the NL inferior league stuff is crap? Two years in a row now. The NL isn't weaker than the AL. If it is, then why does the NL keep winning the f***ing WS?
-
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 06:15 AM) It makes me sick to see a team with Nick freaking Punto in its starting lineup one game away from a WS win. Ever team has some bad players on it, though. When we beat Houston, didn't they start Everett at ss?

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread

QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) I was a KW backer over Ozzie for the 2011 offseason and was pumped when Ozzie quit....until this SHAM of a managerial search with KW pulling a guy who had no interest in managing a team so soon to lead the team when better options were (and still are) out there. I want him to follow Ozzie out the door. I made it a point to try and not be so negative and pessimistic before the 2011 season cause I felt like I wasn't enjoying my favorite team/sport, but man did the 2011 season just suck that out of me, and the managerial choice for 2012 just made it soooooo much worse. Nothing short of Kenny signing Pujols (read NOTHING AT ALL) will make me excited for the 2012 season and I HATE it. Let's face it, we all love Robin Ventura and would love nothing better than to win and win big next season, but this managerial choice was a total joke. A farce. Who knows why KW did it? For attendance? Managers can get a team headlines if they say bizarre stuff, but I doubt the mere presence of Robin will draw fans. Maybe it'll prevent almost all the season tix holders from dumping their season tickets, though. It's a nice gesture, but a farce of a transaction. Maybe they did figure almost all season tix holders would at least renew cause of the likeable Robin managing the team. -
Pretty amazing to win the deciding game 1-0 on the road. Truly a great team. It's hard to believe how rotten the franchise has become in six short years.
-
The only way this same cast will win anything of note is for almost every player to shatter his career high in single season home runs. The team has shown no ability to manufacture runs and that won't change IMO just because Robin is aboard. Also the pitching has to be a bit more consistent and less jeckyll-hydeish IMO. It seems like one or more facets of the game implode when the Sox take the field the last couple seasons. Overall I'd say lift and pull balls over the fence with regularity to go with the same kind of pitching we got last year and the team has a chance to finish at the most 15 over .500.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) Tom Verducci tears into TLR's managing last night After Game One, the writers were all singing his praises and proclaiming him god-like. He just got fried last night. People that hate the bunt especially when it takes the bat out of Albert's hands have to despise LaRussa.

Frank Thomas: I could be the White Sox hitting coach.

If hitting coaches truly matter and I'm not sure they do, then Frank would be perfect. The man's style of hitting is my favorite of all time. He had great great patience at the plate. He hit home runs but he also hit line drives and smashed it to all fields. I would LOVE for him to be Sox hitting coach. -
Pujols has to be pissed at LaRussa thinking he'd hit into a DP and not just let him concentrate on hitting a game-tying home run. LaRussa getting buried on twitter if anybody cares.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 04:21 AM) TERRBIEL managing by TLR this inning. Wow. Cards' fans have to be furious at both hit and runs tonight.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) I really don't see him going to the Cubs. Besides their budget constraints, I don't believe he'd go to the most hated rival of his team. It sounds cheesy, but I seriously don't think he'd do it. He'll just end up re-signing with the Cardinals after they win the World Series. I know guys go where the most money is almost all of the time, but I agree that would be pretty s***ty of Pujols. I mean how many millions of dollars does he need to be happy? I really don't see how 4-5 million would matter that much to Pujols. I mean what's the difference between 20 and 25 million a year? If he goes to the Cubs ... wow. All those games against St. Looie in St. Louie. Some of their fans would boo him?? It'd be a terrible story in sports. Are there really rumors Cubs might get him?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) Thornton is going to be moved. If you can get a lefty #2ish starter for him and Danks, you don't hesitate to pull the trigger, especially since it is buying you 3 more non-free agent years. Didn't Thornton have a fairly s***ty season by his standards?
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 04:02 AM) Seriously, what would you know about that? Do you think our fans will go out to support a horses*** baseball team? I'm from Chicago. My family lives there. I've been a Sox fan forever. Sox are second class team compared to Cubs. Sox MUST WIN to draw. Am I incorrect in this assertion?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) I can't believe you can constantly slam Kenny, but your solution is to demolish the team. That's why I hate the "rebuilding" people. A lot of them think rebuilding means totally demolishing the team. That won't cut it in Chicago. Sox have to try to compete/win.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 22, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) What a "troller" remembers of any team is pretty irrelevant. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 22, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) The bunt call by LaRussa was definitly the right call but you can tell the whole AB Punto was uncomfortable against Nefti or however you spell his name, horrible hack he took at that last pitch. As much as I disliked Punto when he was with the Twins, I've always liked his fundamentals.Unspectacular but an effective player that does the little things. I wouldn't mind a guy like that on the White Sox roster... 1.) I love the White Sox and don't troll. 2.) Good post. 3.) I love the White Sox. 4.) Wow did Craig hit that ball. 1-0 Cards.
-
I'm glad he said he wants major league ready talent for anybody he trades. The Sox don't need to be in a total rebuild. Those things are awfully ugly.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) invitation to a fight? a war? with you? lmao greg, please. listen, i know my job as an admin here(not a mod), and it is to try and make sure that conversation goes as smoothly as possible, argument or not. if you think that all of us dont see what you are doing and trolling threads like this and constantly questioning other managers decisions in an attempt to somehow justify Ozzies numerous bad decisions, you are wrong. its amazing thatyou can generate so many reactions to that statement and you pick mine as the fighting words. lol QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 11:39 PM) To say the very least. Tony La Russa is one of the greatest baseball minds and managers in the history of the game. If, as you say, Ozzie is a sure-fire Hall of Famer, they should create a Tony La Russa Hall of Fame specificially for himself made entirely of gold and diamonds. 1.) I don't troll threads. I read them and comment like everybody else. I still can't believe after 10 years on here u say I am a troll. I'm a fan. Probably my lowest moment ever was when Jerry Dybber made that horrific blunder on the basepaths costing LaMarr Hoyt a chance to pitch Game Five and win game five. Sad, sad day. Would a troller remember that moment as such a downer?? 2.) Tony's great, but even the great ones can be second guessed. You must admit his decisions in Game Two look bad right now?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 22, 2011 -> 12:48 AM) Except for 2010 and maybe 2005. I wasn't counting DeAza, but you are right, he looks good. I also did love Rowand but I try to not mention him cause people get mad at me when I praise the likes of Rowand/Wise/Garland/Dye.
