The team ain't going to fall apart if Shingo gets his walking papers. Shingo's been figured out. Maybe he can get a little extended shelf life in the NL until the teams there figure him out too.

I'm not worried about the Yankees this year. I am worried about another West Coast El Foldo. The Sox are 30-5 in their division (Wow!), 9-4 against the AL East and 12-6 in interleague play. Unfortunately they are only 10-14 against the AL West and have shown a tendency of folding up like an accordion when playing those teams, especially on the road. I'm most concerned about the Angels and the streaking A's. We just don't seem to do so hot against those teams.

Top notch sports journalism in an era of Moronotti and the trendy ESPN crowd. Glad to know he's on our side.

our record against probable 1st round playoff foes

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) It scares me that Oakland is 2 1/2 out of the WC, although my gut says they are not talented enough to make it. My gut says Texas will fade and Oakland will be right there. It would then depend on how AL East stacks up. I don't count Oakland out by any means. -
Konerko often makes comments that are what I call "subtle sabotage". I dislike dealing with people who in engage in this and generally try to say as little as possible to them. They make for an unpleasant work environment. The White Sox have the best chance in my lifetime to have a very special season. Just shut up Paul, and work on that swing.
-
Konerko talks too much, about the wrong things, at the wrong time. He needs to go mute and concentrate on his hitting.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 08:22 AM) He does this every single year. Joe Borchard will never be good, and I don't need a crystal ball to see that. Me either.

Since Reinsdorf and co bought the team the Dodgers, Cardinals, Orioles, Tigers, Royals, Mets, Twins, A's, Reds, Blue Jays, Braves, Yankees, Marlins, Diamondbacks, Angels, and Red Sox have all won at least one World Series. Additionally the Brewers, Phillies, Padres, Giants and Indians have all appeared in at least one World Series. White Sox fans have earned the right to be both cynical and skeptical. The team is doing well because A Ozzie wanted to remake the team and B KW did a hell of a job getting him the players despite the financial constraints he has to work under. Now I will cross my fingers and hold my breath in the second half, hoping this is not just a mirage. Making the playoffs is great, but succeeding in them is like navigating a minefield, and having the best record in the regular season sometimes means diddly squat. This team has the best chance of any White Sox team since 1983 to actually WIN a World Series. I'm having heart palpations just typing this. White Sox fans have been battered and beaten over the years and have stayed loyal without getting all childish and syruppy like fans of that OTHER team on the North Side. Here's hoping for a great second half. 1959 was a long time ago, but it seems like yesterday. 1917 even I don't remember.

This is probably going to be deemed a stupid ?...

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 04:06 PM) This is the second thread in a week you've started bashing Hawk. What the f*** is up with that? You got a problem with him? Ive got a problem with him if he pushed the Wimperoo off. I like Rooney and Farmer better anyway. -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) JR had nothing to do with it. Tom quit because of ignorant comments made by Hawk regarding Tom's sexual abuse as a child. I accept your info as high quality, and believe me I don't feel that way about every internet poster. I always wondered what the "real" reason was. I miss the Wimperoo a lot, and if any of you ever meet him before I do pass it along. He was flippant at times, but in general it was a pleasure to hear the broadcasts when he was on with Hawk. -
QUOTE(quade36 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:11 AM) I don't know if anyone saw it, but it was actually quite good. Yes, a positive piece on the White Sox!!! They first had Carlos Lee talk about the team, then Konerko Talk about Lee, then Pods talk about how he has so much respect for the organization and its fans because he had no idea he'd ever beat out people from New York. Then Mr. Bandwagon jumper himself, Peter Gammons, talked about how little kids should look at the Sox and how they play as a team. They are doing everything right. He also gave credit to what the Sox did after the Lee/Pods trade. He said he talked to Ken Williams right after the trade and Williams said he wasn't done with this yet. And how they got AJ, Iguchi, and Hermanson because they freed up money. My only question is how come this wasn't talked about when it happened???? All the ESPN guys said what a horrible trade it was for the Sox cause Lee was a perenial all-star. Now they are giving Williams props???? I hate to scratch my head with positive publicity, just because we don't get much, but it makes me think that these guys really do know whats going on, but care more about the story at the time then the truth. These assholes will never admit to making a mistake. They're like flighty little middle school girls. Oh my, now they have a crush on the White Sox. :finger to Gammons and co

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) Not a chance. Listening to KW talk earlier this year, it was pretty evident to me that he had given up on Borch. I wouldn't be surprised if he was included in a deadline deal. I for one would not object. The White Sox gave Joe Borchard plenty of chances. One 504 foot home run does not make a career. Anyone remember Dave Nicholson?
-
I'm very happy to listen to Rooney and Farmer on my badly outdated computer. Hawk's OK if you take him for what it's worth, but he is not one of my all time favorite announcers. I'm still a little ticked about Wimpy, did you really run him off Hawk?

If Rowand is or was on steroids then I hope they have a money back guarantee.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) You could also use this logic for McGwire and Sosa. McGwire had a great swing and I have no proof he was on steroids. I don't either. I never saw him take them. In fact I've never seen anyone take steroids, but I bet you lunch a bunch of MLB players did, and Mark McGwire was one of them.

I'll say it again. It's the worst Supreme Court decision in my lifetime. We all know that I'm old, sorry Carl there really used to be dinosaurs. Seriously though, this is going to be horribly abused and will lead to some violent confrontations unless there is a remedy.

The Sox don't have to dominate like they did in the first half. A little over .500 after the All Star break will do fine. That and having everyone healthy for the playoffs.

What would you do if the Sox won the World Series?

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) I would be most elated if the White Sox were able to win. I would not stop talking about it for the rest of my life. That's the best response. I think that's what I'd do, too. I remember when the Bears finally won it that year the feeling of contentment as they blew out the Patriots. I savored every play of the final half as the rest of the country outside of Chicago grimaced. It would be pure contentment, the opposite of the feeling I got the year Baltimore beat us in the playoffs when we should have reached the Series. Lamarr Hoyt would have won the deciding game on Sunday had Britt Burns' masterpiece on Saturday gone to waste in a 10 inning loss on a homer by some Oriole asshole. I believe his name is Tito Landrum. -

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) There are 3 teams I followThe sox, the bears, the illini. None of those have ever won a championship while I was alive. I have absolutely no clue what I'd do or how it feels. The illini left my heart broken this year. Don't feel bad about the Illini, they had a great year. They were the second best team, only falling one rally short. -
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) I agree that Pods is bad on jumps/reads, those who said as much when the trade went down weren't believed by me but they were right. Luckily his speed can cover those mistakes in left, but he just seems awkward in center. The same thing a lot of fans criticized Lee for. No I'm not criticizing the trade in any way, just making an observation.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Just cause someone is the frontrunner for manager of the year, it doesn't mean they're immune from criticism when they make AWFUL decisions during a game. I don't know how anyone could defend Ozzie's managerial decisions today. This A's series matched the Angels series at the Cell earlier this year in terms of terrible managing by Guillen. I can just imagine the heat Jerry Manuel would have received if he pulled some of the stunts that Guillen did this wknd. At this point I would have to say that I give Ozzie credit for changing the team's philosophy and helping to create a high degree of camraderie. As far as X's and O's and game day strategy he is definitely not one of the better managers in MLB. In fact he's one of the worst.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 06:54 AM) Big loss. As much as I like Crede's defense, he's just a rally killer and a black hole in the lineup. I'd trade him. After watching Ozuna try to play third I'm not in such a hurry to trade Joe.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) I'm not so sure there is, and therein lies the problem. A pretty big one if you ask me. The cupboard appears to be a little bare down on the farm.

Jeremy Roenick sounds off about fans
Yossarian replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I've been to many NHL games dating back to the 1970s. I remember when the Black Hawks were by far the hottest ticket in town. I even remember when they won the Stanley Cup! At this point with all the clutching and grabbing, teams hopelessly watered down by expansion, and a clueless commissioner I could care less if they ever come back. If they do, and I suddenly get the urge to watch again, I'll just remember what Jeremy Roenick said. He doesn't need me so let him and his sport live without my help.
