  1. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 08:06 AM) your point would be valid if BMac ever had good numbers in the minors. The only time he has ever been good is the three week stretch in spring training. He hasn't had good numbers since he last got sent down?
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 07:49 AM) One of the biggest mistakes someone can make is putting too much stock in minor league numbers. Fans of BMac please note.
  3. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) Felix is going to run through this line up of ours ANyone else share this fear? :banghead He's a kid with great potential. Let's see what he does after once or twice around the league and hitters get a chance to study him. In the meantime a good outing by Felix last night. Just not quite good enough.
  4. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Shut your mouth and play ball, Paulie. I cringe everytime this guys talks to the press. I wish that was my post. I don't need any lectures from him about loyalty. Anyone who can't see this team has some serious deficiencies is not being realistic. Anyone who watched them in August and voiced some doubts and worries is not disloyal or a bandwagon jumper. In the watered down state of baseball, other teams have problems too. Even the Cardinals who are stacked are going to miss Scott Rolen. In the current state of baseball the Sox can prevail in October, but that doesn't change the fact that they have weaknesses. Get more hits and do less interviews Paul.
  5. If they keep pitching the way they have been, I don't care how Ozzie stacks his rotation. Hopefully there are no more losing streaks the rest of the way. The hits will start to fall in. After the last couple of weeks I notice the color is starting to return to my face and the knot in my stomach is almost gone. The performance of our starting pitchers kept me almost rational. I look forward to seeing them at the top of their game in October. Every single one of them has come up big as the rest of the team struggled recently.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Pods is a spark. The offense was struggling as he was as well when he went down but the moment he went down the offense just went into an absolutely huge funk. When he's on base things just happen, he can run, pitchers start to worry about him, all the sudden Tad, Carl, and Pauly are getting better pitches to hit. He's not just going to magically make the offense score a ton of runs, but he's going to help.....a lot. I agree. I just hope he's strong enough to resume running full tilt when he comes back. His type of injury can be stubborn. I want the country to see the real Pods doing his thing in October.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) You care to make a bet on that Crede remark? 2002 .285 .311 .515 .826 2003 .261 .308 .433 .741 2004 .239 .299 .418 .717 2005 .232 .285 .408 .693 I want him to make it as much as you do. His D is solid. I just think time is running out. That swing of his just won't cut it much longer.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) But I give the pitching staff an A+ this year on making the adjustments needed to be competetive. I wish the hitters would adjust their game as well at the plate. If that were to happen, this team will knock some heads come playoff time. Great post, the pitchers have worked real hard to adjust and too many of the hitters haven't. Crede is back to that long, slow, loopy swing of his that will make him an ex Major leaguer next year. Too many times guys try to hit one out, instead of just taking what the pitcher gives and using the whole field.
  9. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 05:11 AM) You blamed our losing streak on a website banner? Wow...did I accidently stumble onto a Cubs board?! No, baseball has always been a very superstitious sport.
  10. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) i still believe they will get 100 wins....i think after watching last nights game they are going on a streak I hope you're right.
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:31 AM) October will depend on everything coming together at the same time. Looking a some cosmic biorhythm type event, we could have hitting but no pitching in a month. Then we're screwed.
  12. I came to the conclusion a while back that the Sox will go as far as their starters take them. They have been a stellar bunch.
  13. I will feel so much better if we take the Series with a win tomorrow. Enough of this el foldo routine against the Twins every year. Not this year dammit! I'm also more than happy to see Buerhle to step up in a big game.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) It couldn't have been as offensive as "Timo's been slurping on Ozzie's knob again." f*** it. If I get banned for it, I get banned for it. I said it and I stand by it. The site used to be a lot different. It was a nice refuge from the heavy handed atmosphere at one site and the lunatic trolls at another. I've had such great experiences with Sox fans down through the years. I'm totally depressed at the state of the three main message boards and I wonder about myself at times. I'm old enough to know better but still I hang in there for the occasional old time sports fan fellowship that is not completely dead at this point.
  15. How many will we win this year? I don't know, except to say a hell of a lot less than most thought we'd win at the beginning of the month.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) I'm gonna drop my 2 cents in here. This Timo blowing Ozzie s*** is something I'd expect out of some 13 year old kids. It's offensive. It's insulting to the intelligence of Soxtalk posters and it's been going on for entirely too long. Why the hell don't some of you people grow up or, at the very least, challenge yourself to see if you can possibly come up with something new and halfway intelligent. And, for the record, I am not the only one who feels this way about pre-teen caliber s*** you are slinging around here. I made a similar post a while back and it got axed. I was almost afraid to continue posting thinking maybe I'd get banned.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) Don't use the budget as an excuse for KW. He has the highest budget in the division, and if he could develop minor leaguers who could actually contribute, he would have more money to spend on impact players. Its his 5th year as GM. Who has he developed? Compared to other organizations, the farm system has been poor. You're right the farm system is poor. That's because there is not a top to bottom committment to excellence, but rather a top down edict geared toward the short term bottom line. That's not KW's fault. It's not his fault that JR will not recognize that Chicago is not podunk but rather a major world class metropolitan area. No one was harder on KW than me. At this point I refuse to lay it all on him. What if he was axed? You think JR is going to hire someone that wants to build a franchise that's built to last for the long term? That costs money and may mean working in the red for a couple of years. With JR and his group it's short term bottom line all the way. KW at least convinced me he wants to win, and it's obvious he's aggressive in the market place. I know some people don't believe that because we didn't land Junior, but KW's history shows he's not shy. KW is no longer my scapegoat of choice and he shouldn't be yours either.
  18. I don't want KW fired. Even if we don't win another game this year. He gave his all in the off season and he did it on the Major League version of a budget. Whether I'm liked or respected or not, I'm tired of hearing about that great and all good Cy Young winner Johann Santana. You want to win a World Series? You've got to beat the Johann Santana's of the baseball world. It's not just losing here. It's losing to the Twins year after year after year after year ...... The Twins and their fans have to be laughing at us. If we get swept in this series I give us less than a 50/50 chance of making the playoffs. Ah, the playoffs. Don't you think there will have to be a quantum leap of improvement over the last 40 games for the Sox to be taken seriously in the post season? I'm sorry about what happened to the Sox this August. I'm especially sorry because I've been around as a fan since Eisenhower was in the White House. Losing is one thing. Losing like this is quite another. All you can say about recent events is thank God for the Royals. Tonight Mark Buerhle has a chance to show that he really is a big game pitcher. To show that if you want to win a World Series you have to beat the Mark Buerhle's of the baseball world.
  19. I hope we turn it around and start winning again. Everyone will be happier about everthing, including each other's posts.
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:26 AM) Well review video of his swing from last year to this year. Which is where I base this from. The stance is the same, the hand positioning is not. He has them more tucked into his body. His swing is not short and compact like last year. We see this a few times this year, where he uses a compact swing and gets a good hit on the ball. The dreaded long and loopy swing. It's going to make Joe Crede an ex- Major Leaguer. On another note. Some folks are versatile. Even some without big jobs. Ive met more than a few baseball fans who are very observant about various facets and nuances of the game. Maybe they don't deserve a job in baseball, but neither do they deserve to be bashed or criticized either. All this losing is making people mean.
  21. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 06:29 AM) . I feel really let down. I hope they turn this around, but I'm prepared for the worst. And we have a 7 game lead...unreal how I feel. On another message board mods are savagely bashing posters who express concern about the slumping Sox. Over and over it's repeated about that seven game lead. Well wasn't it 15 just a short time ago? I'd rather be 7 behind and streaking. The standings are just a snapshot. Baseball, especially the modern game is all about momentum. The White Sox are tanking as bad as any team I've ever seen. Isn't it galling the way the Twins hand us our head every August and September? Especially this weakened version of the Twins. Look at all that good young talent on the Indians too. I'll bet they can't wait to get some revenge in the last couple weeks of the season. Make no mistake about this, the Sox are in a tailspin and their opponents smell blood. Winning the next two games in that hideous dome is mandatory. The season is about to be won or lost and time is very short.
  22. QUOTE(RX Bandits @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) 7 game lead? Are you kidding me? I can't even imagine you dolts with a 2 or 3 game lead. RELAX! The pitching has been awesome and that is was wins playoff games. You would think us Sox fans would be used to a little bump in the road after all the bad years since 2000 but jesus were as uptight as ever. We'll start the ass kissing when we clinch This isn't just a little bump in the road.
  23. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) If you look back, I am in 100% agreement with you there. Ozzie Guillen might be the worst manager in baseball. He may be a good pal and a good motivator, but a game day manager he is not.
  24. QUOTE(WhiteSox311 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) Didnt joe giradi invent popcorn? I thought Al Gore did.
  25. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) Your alternative is to have Jon Adkins start that game. :puke McCarthy has located his change up since being sent down. He has also added a 2 seam fastball. He's a different pitcher. When he was called up before, he was getting shelled down in AAA, giving up 2 HR's per 9 IP with an ERA above 5. There was no surprise that he got lit up. He wasn't ready, but the alternative was Jon Adkins, Arnie Munoz, and Felix Diaz. If you're going to let the 5 starts in the majors sully your view of him go ahead, you're missing out. :banghead What can I say? I hope he does well, I don't think he's ready for prime time yet. I don't want to rush or force feed him. Some guys need time. Jon Garland for example.
