3/22 Spring training game vs MIL
Holy shit. I had to look it up.... and you're right. That's ungodly and should be a good thing.

3/22 Spring training game vs MIL
I feel like it's only been in place since the 2020 midsummer "training camp." I remember seeing it last year, but not in 2019... and I feel like it was a thing in 2020.

Re-post.

Kyle Crick stuff
Yeah it seems like Crick was the "victim" here. Crick could have been a total asshole about the situation (and it sounds like there was history), but at least it sounds like he knew better than to throw non-defensive punches.

Soxtalk Keeper Fantasy Baseball
I'm a newbie here but can fill in if there's a spot available. What kind of keeper format is it?

Offensively, the Sox are better in RF than either of the last two years
This thread reminds me of this commercial:

Sox Sign Vince Velasquez
Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I figured that to be the case.

Sox Sign Vince Velasquez
What are the luxury tax implications on contract buyouts / released players like for the hard salary cap in the NHL? Is there anything in the CBA about that? Asking for a friend named "D. Keuchel"... err... "Dallas K."

Sox Sign Vince Velasquez
High upside for $3MM. As long as the Sox don't cry "we can't afford Conforto" or whatever, I'm happy with this move.

Joe Buck Leaves Fox Sports for ESPN
Buck is/was great in Brockmire. Other than that... just shut up.

In Memoriam to Pitchers Batting
Fun idea: Just because there's a DH available, Doesn't mean that you HAVE to have a DH Doesn't meant hat you have to use the DH on the pitcher's spot ...right? So we could theoretically have Cease pitching and batting 9th and use the DH on Mendick (or whoever is manning 2B).

In Memoriam to Pitchers Batting
I'm sure our 2B situation can help remedy that at some point this year.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
If there were a salary floor, trading a contract like Keuchel (short-term / high dollar with a good veteran presence) would be a much easier proposition.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
I'll echo this and add some more specificity to this: this doesn't mean that Collins can be the starting catcher. Please God let us sign a legitimate backup catcher, and keep Yaz healthy.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
...and for the umps, too.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
Do we know the scope of what the Braves define as "Baseball?" From my understanding, professional sports books are incredibly inconsistently reported as far as which parts of the overall operations of the franchise are reported as "baseball" (or other sport) vs. some other business. This is the trick that Bill Wirtz played on everyone for years that the Blackhawks were "losing money." To my knowledge there is no standardized accounting method for sports team owners / operators... thus it is incredibly difficult to believe much of anything other than franchise valuations.

Traditionalist or Radical
Draft order is determined by the number of wins after each team is mathematically eliminated from the postseason. So if your team is eliminated on September 1, you have all of the games from September 2 onward to accumulate wins toward your draft ranking. If the next team is eliminated on September 5, they have games from 4 fewer days (compared to you) to accumulate draft ranking wins.

Basically this is my exact sentiment.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
I'm not saying I want to see them miss games at all. I'm just saying that with the way that things are going, and the level of mistrust (and apparent preparation by the union to hunker down in the long run while providing some form of payment to the players from the Rainy Day fund) is at a point where the players' association isn't afraid to keep going past a deadline that they think isn't real.
-
The MLB lockout is lifted!
I'm not sure I agree with the last statement, but I do share your opinion that we'll blow right past the deadline. The players will call the owners' bluff... only to realize that the owners aren't bluffing.

Traditionalist or Radical
My radical ideas: 1. Force umpires to announce certain calls over the PA (such as after replays). 2. Also encourage umpires to announce over the PA the exact reason (with direct quotes, if needed) why a player / manager / coach / staff member was ejected. Also, in the "crazy marketing gimmick" category, make umpires wear body cams. Along with (2) above, have umpires release body cam footage of each ejection.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
I do not / did not. Still doesn't change my response to your characterization of no player being underpaid.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
The issue that they're after is to protect the guys who get a few cups of coffee, never to get a sniff of the big leagues again. I don't know what the numbers are, but I would venture to guess that the vast majority of players get < 1 year of service time in their lifetimes. I'm sorry, but making foodstamp money playing 5+ years in the minors, then finally "making it" and making a quarter of a million dollars over the course of 3 years until you run out of options and get released.... then get cast out into the "real world" where none of the skills that you've been honing for the past 25 years have any real value? I'll disagree with you and say those guys are underpaid.

NCAA is also much more selective. A 16-seed is still one of the top 15% of teams in the country. I believe the NCAA tournament criteria is set at 1 entrant per 6.5 teams or something similar... so even though the tournament is huge, it's still small compared to the team pool at large.
