  1. I am happy to have been wrong on Crochet. I figured he’d be a 3-innings-then-cough-up-a-big-4th-or-5th-inning-thus-leading-to-a-5.something-ERA-but-with-“upside”-so-we-hold-onto-hope-for-him kind of guy, based on his complete lack of track record as a starter, injury rehab and usage, etc. Glad I have been wrong so far
  2. They’d find a way to have Crochet all warmed up, then call the game, thus burning his turn in the rotation for 3 days or so
  3. Why not both? We aren't going to sign high end players who will command multiple top-100 prospects at the deadline. No such player would want to sign here right now. So why not sign guys who are reclamation projects like Fedde, Grossman, etc., who can bring some lottery tickets in return? The only "significant" trade pieces are basically the ones we've already got/had like Cease and Robert.
  4. I feel like the MLB Umpire's union should have to call the club.
  5. To be fair, I don't think the Sox counted on anyone having to round 3rd base .
  6. I'm convinced Maldonado's main role is for PR purposes. By taking playing time away from Lee, he's making the fanbase fall more in love with Lee. That way, when Lee is finally the starter, he's got the full fanbase behind him. That's all I can think of, anyways.
  7. Yeah, it’ll feel like most of 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, only with increased payroll flexibility.
  8. Yeah Riordan is doing what Riordan is going to do. Schriffen needs to recognize that, while they're both broadcasters, they're not in the same business, and he shouldn't be engaging with the likes of Riordan on this level.
  9. What The Score talk show hosts say or do should be completely irrelevant. The Score is just doing what The Score does and is generally supposed to do. They talk about stuff to get people emotionally invested in the topics their station is talking about. Until guys like Schriffen respond the way he's done, or unless he does something completely egregious, it will be an echo chamber. As soon as Schriffen responds, he drags himself into that world. To paraphrase Mark Twain, they're just going to drag him to their level and beat him with experience.

Yeah honestly, I was just looking for an excuse to post an Office Space gif. I've come to expect that any thread that mentions Getz's tenure as a GM will just morph into what this thread has become.

  12. I'd be extremely surprised if Stone is still working 2-3 years from now.
  13. How is it beneficial to pick a fight with the radio media personalities? Yes, it's important for him to connect with the fans, but I fail to see how picking a fight with radio personalities is beneficial to that end. I 100% agree that, especially in a town like Chicago, and especially with a fanbase like the Sox's, and especially when following two MASSIVELY popular play-by-play personalities, he needs to connect with the fans. That's one of the things that makes the Sox's job unique, or at least one of the few jobs in MLB that requires more than just a bland and invisible PbP voice. I just fail to see how picking a fight with radio personalities is beneficial in any way.
  14. Schriffen has nothing to gain by engaging with the rest of the media, especially sports radio. Just ignore them and move on.
  15. ...and Andrew Vaughn.... ...and Jake Burger....
  16. I feel like a lemonade stand is at least transparent in its cost structure and bookkeeping

Well, we let Martin Maldonado hit like Martin Maldonado, and we don't seem to grasp that he sucks, so yes.

My guess is that Leone gets DFA before Keller's spot's next time up in the rotation, at which point they call up Thorpe or someone else. Leone can give you some innings, regardless of quality, before Keller's spot's next time up.
  19. That won't stop half this board from penciling him in to be the long-term solution at 2B.
  20. Alonso, if he signs with the Sox, will go the way of LaRoche, Edwin, Dunn, et al.
  21. For the record, this thread has been relegated to page 2, while on page 1, there is a thread that starts with a hypothetical scenario that results in Pedro winning manager of the year.
  22. Hot take: Cease blows out his arm in 2026 and can't pitch again. Sox sign him in the spring of 2028 as a 32-year-old hitting prospect who overcomes the odds and becomes our power hitting first baseman. ...because he'd play for the league minimum, and Jerry would value his loyalty. (Jerry lives to be 120 in this version of reality, because we can't have nice things)
  23. Also, holy s%*#. The Sox DFA'd Ortega on his birthday? That's cold. ...or is it generous?
