  1. Well if we save the money, at least we can look at a long term deal for Contreras and Garland this offseason. Then you'll also save for the future for a new deal for Buehrle, who has next year plus an option year left.
  2. QUOTE(BMac41 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) Why do we need Brian Giles? Let's see, solid LH bat that would look great in our lineup. Cheaper than PK and will require less years. Shift Dye to 1B, let Giles play RF and then you have Anderson or a platoon at DH. Works for me.
  3. If we can't keep him, we've got to shift our attention to Brian Giles.
  4. If he takes the max deal that a team will offer, he's going to be gone. Some team will be foolish enough IMO to offer the full 7 years he is seeking.
  5. QUOTE(BMac41 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) The Angels have Casey Kotchman and Darin Erstad at 1st. They are going to move Erstad IMO and perhaps Kotchman as well if they can get PK. Kotchman could also be the full-time DH if they get Konerko.
  6. 6 years would be stretching it for me and 7 I wouldn't do.
  7. Holy s*** watch the end of that clip. f***ing hilarious.
  8. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) on the Best Damn Sports show Peroid, he was on there with Torri Hunter and he told him to his face that Rowand deserved the Gold Glove over him.
  9. From last year's week 6 rankings. How'd that work out for you ESPN.
  10. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) LOL Manny - Cubs will sign him. He is not a FA. Perhaps you mean trade for him. I always hated it when people said NYY signed A-rod. They traded for him, not signed him.
  11. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) I understand the criticisism but again the reason why i got the C wasn't my choppy sentences or my bad tense usage(which I appreciate being pointed out since my teacher didn't) It was because she didn't understand how following a tense sox game could be personal She is obviously a prude non-sports fan who needs therapy. Possibly beaten by her football coach father as a child. Or her brother, who played lacross in college, accidentaly knocked her out as a kid. Maybe next time express your love for the "arts" and you'll get an A. I liked it though, sans a few grammar and punctuation problems.
  12. Until I hear a logical reason on why Hermanson has any trade value, we will logically conclude that he has no trade value. You may all return to your normal activities now.
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) How do you trade a 33 year old reliever who may need back surgery and is owed $3 million for 2006? Simple, pay all of the salary and get a fringe prospect.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) Not fair boz. Injured back, pitching for the first time in 25 days. He hung a slider and it got hit. I know Dustin doesn't throw hard or blow people away but if he's healthy I think he'll be just fine but nobody knows so we'll see. I know, I know. It was there for the taking. Kudos to Hermy for a great season. We rode him for all he could give us.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) -this guy doesnt think it would be a waste of money. I think he would make the staff unbeatable, and I also think that we trade 1 of either marte or hermanson as well. Do you advocate spending $8 million per season?
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) There isn't always going to be a defender in the way of those hard hit shots that Hermanson gives up in the future. Those balls will begin to find holes and they started to at the end of the season. See: Game three of the World Series.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) BJ Ryan, bar none. Would strengthen our pitching staff immensely. And according to Peter Gammons, cost around $8 million per season. No thanks. We already got enough Powder River heat with the man child Bobby Jenks.
  18. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) I remember Carlos Lee batting second but never Frank. Did Manuel really do that? Manuel did a lot of things that we should never talk about when sober.
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) Jon Garland - career best in wins, career best in ERA, career best in WHIP, career best in IP. Jose Cotnreras - ditto Garland Dustin Hermanson - career best ERA out of the pen, career best WHIP out of the pen Neal Cotts - career best ERA, career best WHIP, career best damn near everything. I don't view his as much as a career year as much as I do a huge step in the right direction. Cliff Politte - career best ERA and career best WHIP Offensively...no one had a career year. That doesn't mean players didn't have career years Arthur Rhodes, making about $4 mill a year, coming off a horrible year, in his mid to late 30s, was part of a package for one of the more underrated catchers in the game, and was then traded for Roids Lawton, who was one of the best leadoff hitters in the NL for the first 4 months of the season, regardless of steroid use or not. Garland, still young, figured it out this year. Wasn't really hard for him to have a career year as he didn't really have much of a good year ever before, except in IP. Also, as Manuel's whipping boy, never gained confidence and had a hard time improving and working through things with such a short leash. Contreras, figured out his command and how to use the forkball as a devastating weapon. Also escaped NY for his first full season and exceled majorly. Dustin Hermanson, good the first half, helped us get our huge lead. Second half of the year and the playoffs was a non-factor. Will be a non-factor in 2006. Neal Cotts, like you said, a step in the right direction. And he should get better. Cliff Politte, career year, yes, something that can't be repeated? No. When you look at these names, you don't think career year ala Esteban Loaiza in 2003. You think all of them have a good shot at doing similar in 2006, at least IMO. Good point on Rhodes, but I still don't see us using Marte as a centerpiece in a deal.
  20. Marte post ASG: 5.03 era 1.83 WHIP 19 innings, 16 walks, 20 hits I rest my case. Also, he was giving up a hit an inning before the all-star game as well. That is horrible for a relief pitcher, unless you are a mopup man, ala Jose Paniagua.
  21. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) Huh? He may have been the last resort out of the bullpen but he still pitched fairly well. Marte pitched 1.2 innings in Game 3 and allowed no hits, 2 walks, and struck out 3. He was yanked for Buehrle after Uribe botched an easy grounder which Marte induced that would have ended the game. Marte should have been the one to end Game 3 but Uribe made a bad error on a routine groundball which extended the inning for Buehrle to get one more out. I watched the game. And yes, he pitched good. And yes, he was the last resort. And yes, he walked more people as usual. And yes, Uribe should have made the play. But he didn't. Then our manager, the one who led us to an 11-1 playoff run, felt it was better to take him out and use Mark Buehrle, who had just pitched two days before, to get the final out. Please don't defend Marte. He was completely horrible the last half of the season. And that is being nice.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:21 PM) I agree, but if we can find a guy with a .800 obp then I'm all for it. Same here... THE Barry Bonds can't even do that.
  23. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) I think that you have to upgrade your 3-4 part of the lineup. Someone will have to go that's of moderate value, such as a Rowand or even a Brian Anderson - who's got the talent - plus a good arm. Not B-Mac, but a good prospect... Baj, someone like that plus a Pollite kind of arm - for a OBP guy of .800 consistently. I think Dye and Konerko were good in the 3 and 4 spot. (when that's how they were aligned, which wasn't until the end of the season when we caught fire.) Too bad they weren't there all year. I think Dye will have another great year if he hits in front of Paul. This OBP stuff kills me. Sabermetrics nor stats don't win. Remember, only one stat matters: W
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) I said they caught lightning in a bottle. I'm not saying we make WHOLESALE changes, but I do think that we are going to have to get rid of one or two "important" pieces to upgrade. The "lightning in the bottle" term - do you think that we will get 4 complete games in an ALCS again? That was, to me, lightning in a bottle. No, the team wasn't a fluke. 11-1 in the playoffs was. I think they still would have won, but I don't think that we were THAT much better then all the other teams out there. That's why I used the phrase. Hopefully that clarifies my points a little better. Wasn't referring specifically to you, but since you said it, I'll respond. No we won't get 4 more complete games. No we won't go 11-1 again. But I don't think either of these things were flukes. I don't think you go 11-1 as a fluke. You do it because you execute and play the game the right way. We did that most of the year. When we hit a tough spot, it was because our pitching was inconsistent and we didn't do the little things like moving the guy over, sac bunting, sac flys, good baserunning, catching the ball, etc. Why would you get rid of "important pieces" to "upgrade"? We just won the series. What is there to upgrade? Also, I am not trying to be critical, I'd just like to hear what you would suggest or propose as an upgrade...
  25. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) Hermanson doesn't have much value at all because of his age, bad back, and lack of strikeouts. Marte still has a lot of value though, even with his bad year. He's a lefty and he has had great seasons in the past. Even though his WHIP was terrible this year, he still had a 10.77 K/9. He has great stuff and teams will look past a lot for a quality lefty. He also pitched well in the World Series, his last appearance of the year and what teams will most remember. I believe he only pitched because he was a last resort in the WS and Buehrle had to come in and bail him out due to walks. A common theme with Marte, walking guys and then someone else coming in to mop up his disaster.
