QUOTE(3E8 @ May 22, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) One old cubs fan I had the displeasure of sitting next to was giving me s*** for basically the entire game on Saturday. When we finally went ahead late in the game, I really let him have it. He then had to change seats with someone else in his party because he was trying to resist the urge to fight me.

He's not going anywhere, I expect another long term deal after 2007.

Brandon McCarthy ML debut game thread vs Cubs
aboz56 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I kinda wish we had Jurassic in the lineup today, but oh well. -
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) He'd have to really step up his game big time. If BMac is what we hope he is, he has a better chance at 21. Buehrle had his first full season at 22, McCarthy doesn't have a better chance.

Rooney with Farmer not far behind. I like both of them.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Talking about re-signing Konerko, he says he talked to Konerko in spring and said let's win, and see how the contract situation plays out. KW also said he does not know if they can or will keep the team together financially, if they win it'll be easier. He said they love Konerko but need to see how things go. Sounds like a good approach to me, they're focusing on 2005 right now. Main priority will be a long term deal with Garland IMO. I think they could move Dye to 1B after the season and let Konerko walk with Frank taking DH, Everett/Anderson in RF.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) I've been banned once this year for simply being argumentative in another post. No violation of a rule & nothing any worse than that of any other member posting in that thread. I'm well aware that when it comes to certain moderators of this site I do not share their political or anti-religious views & that is going to stack the deck against me in any & all threads. Though it reaks of injustice it is still better than WSI. Get into a baseball argument with a moderator over there & you will be banned for life. For that I am thankful to SOXTALK because they provide an outlet for WSox fans like myself. You have not convinced me that the WSox needed to trade C Lee to get Pods. I have not convinced you that they could have gotten Pods for less than the value of C Lee. So let's just respectfully disagree on that issue & move on. You wouldn't have so many people coming after you if you didn't act like such a know it all. Personally, I don't have anything against you at all, I think you post some good stuff for discussion. The only real problem I have is that you often pass others opinions off as being ignorant and as YAS said, seem to be on a high horse at times. You're not going to get banned or suspended due to your beliefs, trust me on that. Now, as you were.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Way to change the topic. Why don't you respond to my previous post? He does this constantly. :rolly

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) If you want to believe that KW couldn't not have gotten Pods for anything less than C Lee then that's your problem. But those of us who follow the game & not just the WSox know better. Alright Peter Gammons. You sure are a pleathora of baseball knowledge.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) Contrary, to what you say about Kotsay being on the block, I've read just the opposite. So as far as I'm concerned, it's not "a fact". I never said anything about Everett sucking at 1B. Where did that come from? You have to remember, there are a lot of "know facts" and "known statistics" that popup in arguments that aren't really true.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) Some people can't be pleased with a trade working out well for his team but instead find the need to trash the guy incessently............. He wouldn't have to be trashed if he hadn't treated Marte that way. He deserves to be trashed, just like Ordonez. Get off his sack.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) Well, I wasn't going to spell it out. I thought "traded for a reason" was adequate.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) KENNY IS A MORON. HE WOULDN'T TAKE MY CALLS WHEN I WAS TRYING TO ADVISE HIM ON A GREAT 3-WAY TRADE IDEA! MAN CARLOS LED US TO SO MANY PENNANTS, I CAN'T BELIEVE WE TRADED THE GUY. IT WAS GREAT WHEN HE USED TO MAKE FUN OF MARTE IN THE CLUBHOUSE. WISH HE WOULD'VE DONE THAT MORE TO HELP OUR CHEMISTRY. HE WAS OUR MVP FOR SO LONG AND HE WAS SUCH A SMART BASERUNNER. FIRE KENNY FOR TRADING THE CHOSEN ONE.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) Get real. They traded Lee for a reason. They will not sign him as a free agent. THe reason was that he was an idiot in the clubhouse and a clueless idiot on the basepaths. He'll never sniff US Cellular again unless he is an opponent. Hell we threw at him in Spring Training.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) YOU'RE WRONG! BEANE WOULD HAVE WANTED KONERKO! HE LOVES GUYS WITH A .344 CAREER OBP! MAN I LOVE CARLOS LEE I WISH WE WOULDNT HAVE TRADED HIM. IT WAS GREAT WHEN HAWK USED TO CALL HIM EL CABALLO. I BET WE'LL GET HIM BACK WHEN HE BECOMES A FA AFTER 2007.
-
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) Lee has not received a contract extension yet. That keeps the WSox in the running for getting him back in 2007. Let's see, we have Pods, Rowand, Anderson and Sweeney. Where exactly does El Dumbass fit into our plans?
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) Why is the hell would the A's want Konerko when they already had Scott Hatteberg and Erubiel Durazo? Not to mention the fact that Konerko is not a "Beane-type" player. Some people can't be pleased with 31-12 and have to resort to their other scenarios that could have played out. You are exactly right, they wouldn't want Paul Konerko. Everyone should just be pleased with where we are and quit thinking up bulls*** that didn't happen. Get over it. Lee is gone, he was a dog in the clubhouse based on the Marte stuff that came out and I'm glad we have Pods.

Brandon McCarthy ML debut game thread vs Cubs

Make em EAT s*** for the 3rd straight game. -
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) The weak minded resort to personal attacks when they have nothing of value to say. No, the weak minded resort to using meaningless stats when they can't back up their arguments.

As long as he trusts his stuff, I've always believed Contreras would be one of the 20 best starters in baseball. So far, he is not yet to that point, but he has been outstanding. I expected continued improvement from him throughout the rest of the season.
-
Sign him for a 3 year deal for $12 million or so. The guy is worth it.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) I didn't say SEASON. I said first 3 months. Frank hit .239 and was only on base at a .333 clip in 2002. We don't have a full season for Frank to get healthy. How long would we have for Frank to hit? Personally, I don't want to waste time "waiting for Frank". We are leading the league in wins. I don't want to lose any games waiting for him to get ready or get his rhythm. When he comes from Charlotte, he'd better be ready to produce or he shouldn't play everyday. That's the bottom line.
-
I can see the logic, we are 31-12 and we're not a fluke. On the other hand, this is not the same situation as Nomar. His role on the team is not defined yet, but I don't expect to just throw others aside to accomodate Frank. Of course he should get his chance to play and produce, but not at the expense of others. We've got to find a healthy balance of Everett, Frank and Dye. Each is valuable to our success.

2 dumb threads in two days, you're on a roll.

Just wanted to get someone who lives in the area's take on the best way to get to the game on Sunday. I've heard parking around the Piss Hole is horrendous. Where's the best place to park and then ride the train in. Also, for anyone who may know, what is the traffic situation in the northern part of Indiana. Heard they are doing a lot of construction up that way, and if so, what's the best way to get through that part of the commute as I am driving a long way up there.
