Leave McCarthy right where he is. Enough of this already. I'll chime in..... -

Been a Sox fan since I can remember, the first time I really remember watching games is the early 90's: My favorites: 1) Buehrle, bar none. 2) Ray Durham, as Ray went, so went the Sox. 3) Frank Thomas, as much as I've ripped him for his contract stuff, he was a main reason I loved the Sox when I was 8 years old. 4) Lance Johnson

Hope you had a great one!

QUOTE(JimH @ May 16, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) I'd like to see Cotts get more regular work so they can make a determination of what he can contribute in 2005. Right now, he's not contributing as much as we'd like, or himself either. Sox brass probably doesn't know if that's due to rust and if he maybe needs to just get in a groove. If the only role they have for him right now is sporadic, then maybe he's best served in AAA for the time being. If he gets it together, great. He can come back later and contribute. He's never been known as a control pitcher but intermittent use doesn't seem to help his ability to throw strikes. Either way, they need to figure out if they can depend on him ... or not. Great analysis as usual. I think he needs to be at AAA, hence all of my ripping on him. You don't try to figure out what you have with someone at the major league level in my opinion. We need reliable pitchers in the pen who can throw strikes and get people out, which Cotts has shown he can do neither over his 90 innings in his career.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 16, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Munoz's stats down in Charlotte FWIW; 1-3, 5.04 ERA, 8 BB's, 24 K's. And everyone, I'll just say to calm down a bit. This thread has had some real good discussion so far, and I don't want it to get to the stage where it has to be locked. No one is getting attacked at all. In fact it's been pretty good debate and hopefully it'll stay that way.

This is a classic thread. Thank you Nuke.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) It was a joke. Defend MY boy...? Give me a f***ing break. Show me where I've made ONE SUPPORTING COMMENT of Neal's performance ON THE FIELD.. EVER??? Don't bother.. because you won't fine one. :dips***. If it was a joke, shoulda put it in green. Point taken.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) I'm gonna bet that Aboz doesn't get any good interviews while visiting the minors this year.. I'll get plenty of interviews, don't worry about me. Already got one lined up with Baj and I'll get B-Mac and Anderson as well. By the way, saying stuff like that doesn't help to get me to stop posting the truth. Sometimes it hurts. Don't try to threaten me getting no interviews in an effort to DEFEND your boy. If Neal Cotts can't take a little ripping on a message board, he's got a tough road ahead.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 16, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) Hey at least the Smallball Theory is working right!!!???
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 16, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) He gave up way too many homers for a reliever last season. At least that's one aspect of his pitching thus far that has improved. He's switched the homers into singles and doubles. BTW, his career numbers are a 5.78 ERA in 90 innings with 54 walks.
-
He was hard to defend last year when he had a 5.65 ERA over the ENTIRE season. Defend that!
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 16, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) He didn't debut in NY. My bad, it was against Anaheim where he walked 6 guys in 2.1 innings. We knew we had a stud in the making.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 16, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) LOL, I'm just asking. He's been getting crucified around here though, and it seems that those who have been sitting on the fence with him, have jumped overboard. But I guess one question I'm going to ask, is if you're going to criticize Neal so much, why not Luis? Why not Shingo? Those guys haven't exaclty set the world on fire either, it's not like Cotts is the only person in our pen who's been sucking it up. Type up some threads on them and I'll jump in on those two. I was the one saying to get Shingo out of the closer's role after the 3rd game of the year and put in Hermanson and everyone was saying I was jumping to conclusions. It sure played out the correct way though. As far as Vizcaino goes, it's been a month and I can't really make a complete judgement on the guy. I've had to watch Cotts botch games since 2003 and I've seen enough. If Viz continues down his current path all season long, he'll be crushed too.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 16, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Anyone got a stat on how many of Neal's pitches have been balls, and how many of them have been strikes? Andrew, don't you realize that there are no stats that can cover up Kotts's shortcomings. I'm just glad you are sensible enough to not defend this slug.
-
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 16, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Is it safe to assume that control will never just magically appear in Neal's repertoire? He's never had control. You knew we were getting another fringe major leaguer when we traded with Billy Beane. His control might be worse than Botch's. And at least William Koch admitted that he sucked.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 16, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) Oh, well now I'm convinced. Lol, what exactly does he bring to the team besides pissing down his leg in any clutch situation? He's been horrible since the minute he got here in the NY debut. He can't get out lefties. He can't strand runners. He sure as hell can't make a spot start if needed. I remember when he tried that last year, same result as usual when he starts. Most of the times he can't throw strikes. His control is questionable at best. His "sneaky" fastball isn't sneaking up on anyone. He sure looked good the past two games. Now come on, as Tony Kornheiser would say, DEFEND YOUR BOY.
-
Quit making excuses for Cotts, he can't get the job done, BOTTOM LINE. Get him OUT of here. We've all seen enough.
-
We may only use him when we have the lead since he's pretty much our main set up guy now besides Marte.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 16, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) that work? It asks for a PW
