QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 11:50 PM) I've decided to lose 60 pounds Good luck. I've lost about that much over the past 14 months. It's not easy, but try to get yourself into a routine and stick to it and after a few weeks it get's easier as you get used to it.

TSA - Going too Far?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) Someone remind me why we're spending millions of dollars and wasting everyone's time going through extra security steps if s*** like this happens? What's stopping a disgruntled or terrorist sympathizing pilot to be in cahoots with some would be terrorists, passing off guns after the security checks? What's stopping a disgruntled pilot from just crashing the plane and avoiding a third party altogether? I can see a cause for concern, but not for the reason you specify.

Really wish the UConn-Nova game was on later than 3:30. Pretty stupid scheduling really.

Top Sox defensive plays of all-time
Uribe's play should have been on there for sure. What came in #1 overall? Mays' catch?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 11:17 PM) Lol at the people who thought Duke had a shot to make an undefeated run (and they wouldn't have with Irving either IMO). You saw tonight just how hard it is, even in the case of Ohio State and Kansas winning. Duke will struggle with teams as long and athletic as Florida State this year. Problem is, unless you're a Duke fan, there aren't many of those teams in the country this year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) I just meant that I can't see Kemba keeping up his 30 ppg average in the tough Big East. Oh gotcha. It's at 26 now. I bet it finishes around 23 though. There are some teams in the BEast that he matches up real well with. I think he'll get some benefit from not having a #2 guy on hi steam though. Sullinger has a better surrounding cast, Nolan Smith isn't even the best player on his team, and Fredette will be punished for playing for BYU. I get what you're saying though, but if he keeps it up to even a lesser degree he should be in the top 3 contention all year.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) Legendary White Sox outfielder Dewayne Wise has signed with the Marlins. That's not a bad fit for him down there actually as a bench guy. Left handed, some pop off the bench, can pinch run, defensive replacement in a large outfield. With only two OF spots set (LF/RF) I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him as their 4th/5th OF.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) Quite the battle going on for POY in NCAA this season. The four top contenders are Sullinger, Kemba Walker, Jimmer F, and Nolan Smith. Jimmer might be the best offensive player I've seen in a long time, but it's likely he will be on the outside looking in for the POY discussion. With Kemba and UCONN fading in conference, it seems Sullinger has a great chance to be POY even though Nolan Smith is having a fantastic senior season. It was two games, on the road, against top 12 teams. They just beat Texas on the road. Let's see how they play against Nova and L'Ville before saying that they are "fading"

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 10:50 PM) ND got mowed down by Marquette on the road. They seem to struggle away from home. That was a bad loss. Marquette isn't a bad team, but they are down this year. No road game in the Big East is ever easy but to get blown out like that...yikes. Of course to be fair, you're not often going to run into too many teams that hit 12 of their first 15 three pointers either.

Realistic Adam Dunn expectations
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) If they each stay on their typical pace, #400's could be pretty close to each other, either end of 2011 or early 2012. So if Konerko plays a couple years beyond his current contract somewhere and stays relatively healthy he has a legitimate shot at 500 home runs...

2011 HOF is Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven.
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) Probably. He was incredible as a player and especially a lead off hitter. He's arguably the second greatest leadoff hitter ever.

I just read that Pete Rose received 3 write-in votes. Wonder if that was the first time or not? Just found it kind of interesting.

Fantasy Football Keepers
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Ok, got a question for you guys and gals. I'm in a 12 team, ESPN keeper league in fantasy football. The league gives you the option of 7 keepers, but you don't have to use all 7. The 5 I KNOW for sure I'm keeping: Philip Rivers Michael Turner Jamaal Charles Hakeem Nicks Vernon Davis Now, I have some other options too. If I was to keep just those 5, I'd have 2 picks at the beginning of next years draft to pick from the best of the non-keepers. My other keeper options: Jonathan Stewart Deangelo Williams Dez Bryant Tony Romo Josh Freeman Thoughts? Um, first of all, holy s*** on your team. 12 team league? Really? Wow. Anyways, I absolutely keep Bryant. I'd strongly consider Freeman or Stewart as well. Do you need to decide now? If so go Freeman since we don't know what kind of mess Carolina will be or not next year yet.

Do the sox have interest in Andruw Jones?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) Why do we believe that De Aza and the Stealth Elf are poor defensive options? I'll grant that Teahen and Dunn are, but they were my 3rd and 4th options for a reason. Personally, I kinda like De Aza, and I've thought since we got him that if he ever stayed healthy he's somewhere in the neighborhood of an average MLB starter, although I don't know about his glove. I know the Marlins were pretty high on him a few years back. He won the job out of ST and then suffered a pretty significant (ankle?) injury that cost him. He definitely has value and probably has a case for being on a ML team but I don't know about starter. He has the potential but has never demonstrated it for any significant stretch of time.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) I'm hoping to go then as well. I was there once before, but was too young to remember it all. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) I went in 6th grade i think. I dont remember much at all. My wife and i try to do a "state" vacation every year where we pick a state and visit places throughout. I just talked to her and she's ok with NY in 2014. I always take for granted the fact that this is the case with most people. I've been fortunate enough to visit Cooperstown numerous times since I grew up and went to college in upstate NY. I even had the opportunity to present my senior thesis at the annual symposium there a few years back. Regardless, I'm absolutely going to be there in 2014 to see Frank get in. Just a word of advice in advance, book your hotel the day he gets in because those places fill up FAST.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) ND men defeat UConn to run their record to 13-2 on the season. Syracuse is their only tough defeat so far this year. The Kentucky game was close until they went cold in the last 4 minutes of the second half. Walker was terrible. Really liked what I saw from Shabazz though (minus that terrible last second shot). Abromitis and Hansbrough are a nice 1-2 combination. ND needs to get more from the inside as they progress through the Big East season.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Any tips to get a 7 month old puppy to stop nipping? Trying everything. Adult teeth have been in awhile. Frustrating. Some dogs respond to alternates. When he nips or chews something he's not supposed to, direct him to or give him something he's allowed to do that to.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) My question remains the same: when have the Royals recently had a collection (5+) of what were thought to be premium prospects that sparked talk of a big turn around in the near future? Unless my memory is just shady, which is possibly considering I'm an alcoholic, I don't remember. I don't really know about their pitching outside of Hochevar and Cortes, but I mean they've had Hosmer, Kila, Gordon, Butler, Huber, Lubanski and maybe more be considered top 100 prospects and not much has really come from them at all. I'm not discounting them now and really do think they are in the midst of turning that franchise around here, but it's still not necessarily wrong to point out that they've been in re-building mode for a while now.
