QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) This seems to be the standard response to mock their potential. And I'm certainly not "afraid" of them. But when have they ever had a system that on the surface appeared to be this loaded? I know there was a lot of hype surrounding Gordon and Hochevar. But they've never had anything like this. You're talking 8-10 consensus top 75ish or so prospects. If just 4 of those guys max out then they're in business. I don't think it was intended to mock, but rather point out a valid fact. The Royals absolutely have a loaded farm system right now but Steve isn't wrong - we have been hearing about them for a while now.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) I, too have this Thursday and Friday off. Today is my final work day of 2010. I, however, do get paid. My final day is tomorrow. I have all of next week off and I get paid as well. I'll probably log in from home a couple of times and work for a few hours next week. Which I have no problem with because I'll get overtime for it.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) Northwestern just took themselves out of tournament consideration. Can't lose to St. John's when your best OOC win is Georgia Tech. The Johnnies are not a bad team this year. They have a good shot at being a tourney team themselves. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) Geico. Because they pass on the costs from their ads to their customers. That animated lizard costs a ton of money. Actually...i switched to Geico a few years ago and have been extremely happy with them. Only had to use them twice and never any hassles. I even have a good friend who works at Liberty Mutual and even with all of the discounts and "deals" he gave me it didn't match my Geico rate.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) Which HBO shows run during December through February? We've only had HBO since Boardwalk Empire started. The Borgias begins in January on Showtime. If you liked The Tudors you'd probably like this.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) Well, you have to put it in context. These guys, while famous in their day, were not making salaries proportionate to what professional athletes today are. They were making salaries that put them above what the average American was making, but it certainly did not put them in the top 1% of American breadwinners, as today's professional athletes are. Not that that takes away from their service to their country, because it does not. But it's just not the same. There was also a fairly large war going on that didn't give some of these guys a choice. Not taking anything away from them, but it just further adds to your point that it really isn't the same.

Wouldn't this be quite the feat

So i'd love to see what this list looks like. Even if it's not in any sort of organized fashion. Just curious what everyone said.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) Milksteak boiled over hard, with a side of jelly beans, raw of course. Winner.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Joba the Hut has been a failure so why do we want him? Because Coop can fix him?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) Why what? Why was trading for Jake Peavy dumb? Because he has a mammoth contract, a long history of injury, and was injured at the time of acquisition. I think we all knew that the percent chance that that deal paid off was quite low (regardless of what we traded, those pieces could have been used to acquire someone else or we just save the huge Peavy contract). That's what I meant. I don't think it was necessarily a dumb move. He was trying to win and acquiring him while hurt I don't think even mattered much. He knew he wouldn't be ready right away. Maybe he thought the price might be the lowest it would be at that moment? What we gave up is looking like it wasn't all that much. Obviously what happens to the team in the next couple seasons while make the trade look much better or worse than you can really judge at the moment.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) It may have been crafty to acquire Peavy, but it certainly wasn't smart. However, in Kenny I Trust. Why?

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 12:30 AM) It just doesnt seem to fit because earlier the show said his future wife was the student's room mate that he was dating. If Zooey was with The Captain I don't think she'd be in a s***ty apartment. Maybe Zoey and the Captain weren't married yet?

Blatter says gay fans should "refrain" at Qatar 2022 LOL. How pathetic that this needs to be said. Further proof of what a joke this World Cup selection was -

UCONN up to #4. Wow. Didn't see that one coming a month ago. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) No, but I have been on the other end of that. I should punch you. jk QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) No, I have been on the other end of that situation. I really want to cut that kid's ponytail off and beat his fat ass. Well let me just say from all accounts the guy was a pretty crappy person. And i dont know if that is the reason but her friend and my friend seem to think it might have been. And I didn't mean to come across as an ass. I'm sure it sucks being on the other side. This wasn't something I was "working on" or anything like that. I was being extremely respectful and aloof to the situation prior to this. We'll see what happens.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) I'm not sure we all know he ain't what he used to be. For the three seasons 2007-2009, MB put up numbers pretty much in line with his career averages, with ERA's in the mid-upper 3's, similar WHIP and other values. 2010 was a bad year, just as 2006 was, but not AS bad as 2006. To me, there is every indication that 2010 was just an aberrant season. Can't say for sure of course, its POSSIBLE that 2010 was the beginning a slide down. But looking at his career and his age, I'd say that's not likely. His contract is no bargain, but as others have pointed out, he has met the value of the contract so far with his performance. So I am not sure how or why people are 100% convinced that his contract is some sort of albatross. I wouldnt even say that. His ERA was around 4.30. In the AL, as a back of the rotation starter that is fine. He is not and never has been an ace. He isnt worth his contract on the open market. But to me he is still a good pitcher and is probably more valuable than what we could hope to get in return from a trade. And a trade as a salar dump would be a PR nightmare

It's hard for me to wish this to happen. I feel it would probably be the best baseball decision and might put us in the best position to win in 2011 if we work it correctly. But, it's hard to imagine this team without Mark and it's impossible for me to wish him to be on any other team. Really tough situation.

Gates or Buffet because as someone else has said, money talks and money gets stuff done and they have a lot of it and donate a lot of it.

So has anyone ever had a girl break up with their boyfriend FOR you? Cuz i'm pretty sure that just happened last night and I'm not quite sure how to handle that. Kinda intimidating and a lot of pressure to be honest.

Happy birthday dude

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) To think Cowley would ever be offered a job by the NY Times is laughable. He's more like Jayson Whitlock in KC, a bomb thrower whose following numbers himself and a handful of others that agree with his guerrila style. I can't stand Whitlock.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) There is no one better than CQ or any other White Sox player Especially Juan Pierre.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 11:20 AM) I'm with you. I don't mind the no power thing, but Pierre is only a decent leadoff hitter if he gets on base at a .365 or higher clip. That means he has to take walks. It's cool that he increases pitch counts by swinging at every single pitch and fouling it off before eventually grounding out to second base, but you can also increase pitch counts by having a good eye, taking balls, and hitting the ball hard when they put it in the strike zone -- and you get on base a LOT more that way. Ugh.
