7/10 #3 is insane. #5 and 7 I just didn't think about long enough.

Did Ozzie really fart on the umpire today?

I never imagined I'd come here this morning and see a thread such as this... -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) On the bench right now, we have: Quentin (hurt) Thome (hurt, only useful as DH) Corky Miller ©. If anyone else gets hurt or tossed, what pitcher comes in to play the field? Probably say screw it to the DH and move Betemit to a position and let the pitcher hit.

We may currently have one of the worst outfields of all time right now

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) I swear Getz is faster than Lillibridge and might have beaten the relay there. Esteban Belte, Jr., your ticket is already purchased for Charlotte Friday. Yesterday was the first time all season we beat a pitcher who entered the game with a +6 ERA, and we face three "no names" (Cecil is known to some) at Toronto, where we've won about 1 of our last 10 games against TOR. 08: 1-3 07: 1-3 06: 3-3 5-9 the last 3 years. Didn't realize we struggled so much there.

QUOTE (tommy @ May 12, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) So next thing you know Lillibridge will find his way into this lineup yet again. *pukes* Quite the powerful quartet of Getz, Lilli, Corky and Prancer -

Podsednik is back. I guess his wife had their baby Sunday night, according to Cowley on Twitter -
Good for MLB to not do anything really. Throwing at people will never stop, so you'd think MLB would rather pitchers do what Jenks did if they intend to make a statement. But because Bobby opened his mouth the probably felt like they had to do something.

QUOTE (Baines3 @ May 12, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) He was scheduled to pitch Wednesday but Ozzie decided to pitch Buehrle Wednesday giving him 5 days rest for some reason. Come on Clayton win it for us tonight. Thanks. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Well, technically he was "promoted" from Kannapolis to the AFL and then he didn't go back to Kanny, so I guess that's something of a promotion. Are Danks and Shelby the only two players in our organization that are rated 80+ for speed and power at thebaseballcube.com? You're assigned to the AFL, you don't get promoted there. This was his first promotion

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) But as I said in the other thread, I think they like keeping the band together in AA. Cook is looked at less as part of that band, and at 27 or 28 or whatever he is, he needs to be in AAA. But Gartrell is already 25. It comes down to whether or not they think he would benefit more by staying with "the core" or by getting more experience at AAA. Several of those guys (Beckham, Allen, Flowers, maybe even Viciedo if he picks it up) have outside to pretty good shots at being in Chicago next year. Gartrell is not one of them. IMO, he needs AAA more than the others so you have to weigh what is best for him and the organization. I tend to believe that it would be better to have Gartrell get extra experience at AAA to more accurately gauge what we have in him.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 12, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) So now what with Gordon Beckham on the DL, and Jordan Danks moved to Birmingham? Might David Cook go to AAA? I'd rather Gartrell get some time in AAA since I think he has more a future than Cook.

Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
ChiSox_Sonix replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (The Critic @ May 11, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) f***ing idiots running the NHL decided that Scott Walker throwing a punch at a still-gloved Aaron Ward was not a suckerpunch. No suspension, just a fine. Maybe it's better that way. Walker better have his head on a swivel tomorrow night. That's because it wasn't. I was shocked, but glad, that the NHL only handed him a fine. Nowadays they suspend people ridiculously. Aaron Ward was giving it to Cullen and Walker jumped in to protect his smaller (and non-fighter) teammate. Actually, you could argue that Walker was 3rd man in which equals an auto ejection. But anyways, Walker pressed the issue yes but Ward had his arms down as if he was going to drop his gloves. In a play that evolved that quickly, there was not malicious intent on the part of Walker to deliver a chaep shot(aside from the obvious fact that it was a fight). It was all about getting a quick start against a larger player. Lucic went beserk after it though. Finally shows some balls when it's a much smaller player. He's such a pansy. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) He will, but it doesn't make much sense right now. Unless one of the Konerko/Thome/Betemit/Dye club gets hurt or traded, there is really nowhere for him to play. He'll get his shot soon enough. I love that whole damn B-Ham lineup. I don't see a player in there who isn't high potential to be a major league contributor. I love 6 of them. I don't think David Cook will ever amount to anything and Gartrell maybe only as a 4th OF. I don't know enough about Retherford but he certainly is intriguing.

Stella is not the mother on HIMYM. I'm wondering what running into her has to do with him finding the mother though. I half expected him to bump into someone as he was getting out of her car.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 8, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) Adebayor's basically had 1 good season, and that was last season. Done nothing to back it up. I'd rank em as this; 1 - Messi. Has overtaken Ronaldo this season IMO. Fantastic player. 2 - Ronaldo. Hasn't been as good as he was last season when he scored 42 goals, and I think he still wants to go to Real Madrid. 3 - Kaka. Doesn't do anything fantastically, but he's good at everything, very good. Class player. 4 - Ibrahimovic. And yeah I'll get called out for his lack of scoring at the European Level. But he's been a beast in Italy for many seasons and there aren't any other strikers around with his size and speed besides Adebayor who actually have good finishing ability. 5 - Gerrard. Can play anywhere in midfield and dominate. Was deciding b/w Xavi, Rooney and Fabregas for this spot. For me, Torres has slipped this season, and Vidic got found out against Liverpool, as he's no good against quick forwards. You even mentioned his lack of goal scoring at the European level. To me, Ibrahimovic has been one of the main reasons Sweden has underachieved in the past 5 years. Yeah, he has the talent but his lack of goal scoring at the International level shouldn't allow him anywhere near a Top 5 players in the world ranking, IMO. -
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 11, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) I don't really get threads like this. If I have skepticism regarding the team, how should I vote? If I think they will finish in 4th place or worse based on what I've seen, does that make me an "outie" Am I "realistic" or not a "big enough fan" if I have a pessimistic view of this season? I think this is the worst Sox team I've seen in a long time. You missed the joke

GM Ken Williams criticizes pitchers for not protecting hitters
ChiSox_Sonix replied to Wanne's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 8, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) Actually, fighting was up since years at past, at least at the all-star break. I can't find any numbers to see where it ended up, however. But the "sending a message" is another cliche that needs to go away. Again, send the message by beating them at hockey/baseball whatever. As a competitor, I'd be a lot more pissed about losing a game then some meaningless fight. And just because a majority of people think it's right, doesn't make it so. I just don't see how hitting players or brushing them back directly effects the outcome of a baseball game (i.e. helps you win).Stop saying "because it makes them feel comfortable" because frankly it's unmeasurable and dumb to argue about. Get hitters out and beat them at baseball, that's what drives them nuts. Then stop saying it isnt true. And if you never played professional sports you really aren't in a position to know what affects who and how much it does/does not etc... I'm gonna side with the opinion of players and coaches who advocate such techniques and "sending messages", which have gone on for years, you do what you want. -

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 8, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) But what "stings" or hurts the Canucks more? Stupid ass fighting and "sending a message" or winning that game and evening up that series? More on Hockey below, but why is there less fighting in the playoffs? Don't teams need to "send a message?" No, ofcourse not, teams are not taking stupid ass penalties that hurt their team. Same goes in baseball, or at least it's how I feel. If a player got run someone would definitely step up. Fighting is cut down because of Buttman and the idiotic way he and Cornhole Campbell have been running the league the last few years. Also, brawls are far more likely to occur in a one-sided playoff game than a regular series game. Why? To send a message for the remaining games in the series. If a hitter is more comfortable, then he is more likely to have a good AB. If he has a good AB, he is more likely to achieve a positive result from that AB. Oh, and pitchers would not "be plunking every damn hitter they faced" because that would lead to more men on base. I love how you keep going back to plunking hitters left and right when the majority of people here keep saying that brushbacks send the same message and hitting opposing players is not necessarily what we are advocating them to do. -
