Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
ChiSox_Sonix replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (The Critic @ May 6, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) I'd love to see the Whale return! Something weird's going on with the NHL and the Whalers, though - it's really hard to find any official licensed Whalers retro gear. Maybe you find a cap or a hooded sweatshirt, but no jerseys. I don't trust the stuff on eBay, and I'd love to have one of the dark blue Whalers road jerseys from back then (when teams wore dark uni's on the road, that is). The city of Hartford owns the rights to everything Hartford Whalers. The colors, the records, the logo, the name, even the goal song ("Brass Bonanza"). That is why you dont see stuff hardly ever. As for the Whale, there is still a fan club. http://www.whalerwatch.com/ I really think the Whalers will once again be back in the NHL. It may be 10 years down the road, but the dominoes are beginning to fall. Buttman met with the mayor, Hartford is going to build a new arena, the NYR are going to pull their AHL team out, petitions are growing in numbers and size, Hartford is the largest market without a professional franchise etc... It was a sad day when The Whale left, I hope they are back again. -
Ozzie with his usual empty threats after loss like this

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 6, 2009 -> 05:44 AM) I read the title of this thread as "Caulfield with his usual post game 'the world is ending' threads after loss like this" wierd ^^^ This and this vvvvv QUOTE (lostfan @ May 6, 2009 -> 06:17 AM) Nobody wants that, but seriously, there is a line between being a realist, and tying a rope around your neck every night. It really gets old, and it gets hard to scroll past what I don't want to read because everybody is panicking at once. -

Looks like the Coyotes filed for bankruptcy. NHL will take the team over. BlackBerry CEO offers to buy team and move it to Hamilton, Ontario but NHL owners undoubtedly will not allow that. It'd be great, but won't happen, if someone bought the team and moved them to Hartford -
QUOTE (juddling @ May 5, 2009 -> 04:24 AM) I just caught the end of How I Met Your Mother last night and I swear i hear the Bob Saget voiceover say soemthing to the effect of '..and that's how i met your mom' and then it showed If anyone else saw it...did I interpret that right....are they saying that she is the 'mother' in question??? i wish i recorded it. i didn't realize it was a new one last night. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ May 4, 2009 -> 08:44 AM) I like our chances tonight. Because.... -we have seen Greinke before -He's not a no-name pitcher -He's not making his major league debut -His ERA is not over 7 -He is due for a loss. The chances are in our favor. I laugh b/c that is unfortunately so true.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 4, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) I'd find a way to put a tariff on imported goods made by companies that leave the US. Find a way to lock them in. I'm probably in the minority that I believe in "America First". We should be a self sustaining country and not have to rely on goods brought in from over seas. Or at lease as self-sustaining as possible. I completely agree, but it's not really realistic.

I was watching the Caps-Pens game saturday and have come to the conclusion that Eddie Olczyck is the John Madden of the NHL. I came to the conclusion after Eddie O made this statement after Ovie scored a 5-3 PP goal (I'm paraphrasing): "The Penguins don't want to be down 5 on 3 to this team. They really want to be down 5 on 4 at worst, but really they want to play 5 on 5." He's being paid for that revelation. -

QUOTE (knightni @ May 1, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) Mark Titus - of Club Trillion blog fame - is told by the NBA to withdraw his name from the draft because they believe that he will make a "mockery" of the process. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/bl...rn=ncaab,160332 Yet they allow the officials to make a mockery of what is and is not allowed game in and game out? -
Survivorman is on his own. He doesnt have people set him up with a dead goat ahead of time (the Scottish highlands episode) or a camera crew following him around. Survivorman >>>>>> Man vs Wild

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ May 1, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) Renaldo Sidney makes it official and backs out of his verbal with USC, and signs a letter of intent with Mississippi St.. That's a smart move -
Used to be Ray Durham and Frank Thomas but now that they are without teams I don't currently actively track anyone. If i happen to be looking at the KC box score or SF, for example, i'll check out Olivo/Uribe/Rowand etc but I don't seek them out.

I love MB and a couple years ago thought he could make a run at 250-300 ala becoming Jamie Moyer-esque in his late 30's and early 40's but I doubt he pitches after 35. And he will never be a HoF'er. He should absolutely have his number retired as a White Sox player as soon as he does retire though.

What sucks is the only players in AAA who have any shot of not sucking up here (Phillips, Nix) can't play CF. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) The funny thing is that Owens made an out and it counted on BA's stats...right? No i think that only affects strikeouts when you enter with 2 strikes or walks when you enter with 3. I could be wrong. That's one of those obscure rules. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) This. And if he hits the way he can, he may never go back down. I hope they do this instead of someone gay like PODS. I'd worry about them bringing up Pods to play CF if BA is hurt for any period of time before I'd worry about them bringing Pods up to replace Thome

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) I never suggested that Jim start bunting for singles, but I do want to see him cut down on the Ks and the GiDP. He set a new career high in GiDP last season and he's got a good chance to be the all-time leader in Ks when his career ends. Jim is a terrific hitter and I think he's got the talent to be a more productive player. I will always believe that it's each player's job to help the team win more than anything else. I don't know how you got: "Jim Thome should bunt for singles" from that statement, DA. So what makes you think, at 37/38, Thome is going to do anything where he will cut down on his K's? -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) so AJ can throw guys out I also like that people jump on Anderson for one bad at bat. I'm slightly worried about him hitting with runners on, but blame should be placed equally, because JD has not been good this game either. I know, but that will not change until he hits .400 for consecutive seasons
