  1. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) Because of the rumors we've been hearing over the off-season. At one time we were talking about a possibility of the Reds wanting MB for some of their young guys. Also heard of the possibility of PK to LA for Figgins, ect. The MB rumors came from a Cincinnati Reds message board only with no other source IIRC...
  2. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Because, IMO, it is extremely unlikely that they'll trade Javy, and a slim chance that they'll consider trading Fields. We'll be getting rid of Crede by All-Star break or by the end of the year, and the rotation would be nothing in the current season if Javy was traded. And you know KW and JR, they want to win now. Then why have PK and MB there? If they trade MB it means we are re-building. If we re-build Javy is gone and would most likely bring back the best or second best package.
  3. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) The Chicago White Sox received: * Keith Foulke, right handed pitcher - quality closer * Bob Howry, right handed pitcher - good reliever * Lorenzo Barcelo, right handed pitcher - very good til he hurt his arm * Ken Vining, left handed pitcher - meh * Mike Caruso, shortstop - was good for a few years * Brian Manning - meh The San Francisco Giants received: * Wilson Alvarez, left handed pitcher - never did much after the trade * Danny Darwin, right handed pitcher - old * Roberto Hernández, right handed pitcher - Foulke was as successful It's not that bad in hindsight. Not so much bad in terms of results but bad as in what it said and meant. We were only 3.5 games out with ~60 games left. I was 14 so i had just begun following the sox really closely for a few years at that point but it made no sense to me to do that. Nowadays, if a team did that only 3.5 games out, they would be ripped by media constantly. Yes, in hindsight you could argue we "won" that trade, but for what it meant at the time that trade was made will always leave a sour taste in my mouth.
  4. Worst: Todd Ritchie trade/White Flag Trade Best: Garland for Karchner Honorable mention for best though in recent years: Marte for Guerrier/Ruddy Yan and the Freddy Garcia trade...they both played significant roles for our WSC team and for all we gave up only Guerrier has done anything (and thats been as a decent middle reliever)
  5. QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) Re-watched some of the season premiere. Did we ever find out what caused Hugo to storm out of the convenience store and start that high speed chase with the cops? He thought he saw Charlie and freaked out
  6. Ya i dont know how you can put Crede and Uribe on the list and not Fields or Vazquez. Anyways, i voted for other, and by other i mean Javy Vazquez. He's got great stuff, isnt too old, has a few years left on a reasonable contract, i think we could get a lot for him IMO. Vazquez is a bona fide #2 pitcher now.
  7. So during my senior year in college a couple years back i lived on the street where the main strip of bars were located (so convenient). After a night of long drinking a bunch of guys in my fraternity came back to our place for after hours. Several girls we knew in one of the sororities decided to come back with us. Also, this was during the couple month period a few of us got into doing something when we drank so we all had a lot of energy i guess you can say. (that in and of itself should be considered stupid). But anyways, we lived on the 3rd floor, which was the top of the building and just the other day a maintenance guy had come around cuz he had to get to the roof. Apparently, we had the only access. So, i bring it up to my friends that if we removed some ceiling tiles we can get to our roof. My roomate said we were retarded if we did that but the girls were egging us on and well i guess you can say we were trying to "impress" them. So we climb to the top of the roof, 4 of us, and start running around up there when we notice we can see into peoples apartments through the skylights. So a couple of my friends decided to be creepy while myself and the other guy went to the edge of the roof next to another building. This building had one of those clocks on it and we decided to change the time on it. Anyways, when coming back down one of the guys stepped on a piece of ceiling he shouldnt have and his foot went through. So in a rush to get down i went to fast and myself slipped and sliced my hand pretty good on a piece of metal on the way down. I needed stitches and there went the rest of my fall intramural basketball season. It also wasnt fun having to pay someone to fix that ceiling.
  8. QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) keeping that average over 162 games.... 54 hrs (at the time it happened , would have been 6th best single season total of all time) 144 RBis 151 runs 156 Walks (at the time it happened , would have been tied for the 4th best single season total of all time) Not to mention the .350BA .700+ SLG and 1.200+ OPS he was sporting at the time 1994...such a shame
  9. This reminds me of the Will Ferrell line from Anchorman: "I'm not even mad, I'm impressed!"
  10. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 08:17 AM) Reding a blog there was a cool case of why the 6 were choosen. The theory was that in the end Ben allowed them to leave because of sacrificies given up; Juliet gave up Jack Sawyer gave up Kate Jin gave up Sun Claire gave up Aaron Those made sense to me the others are my speculations Sayid gave up his free will Hugo gave up $3.2M to Ben to pay off Miles In the end I do believe Ben is the guy in charge and makes the decisions. Assuming that theory was true (and it certainly works and makes sense) and seeing as how they've said Aaron is not one of the 6, what could be another person getting off with this theory still in place? Locke gives up the island? Could the 6th be Walt, with Michael having given him up?
  11. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) I dont disagree with your prediction, but reading the above... i cant help think this is even further a justification to put him on the 08 squad. Pablo's no spring chicken But he's under contract and he does his job well and has proven such. Bourgeois has yet to see a pitch thrown in an MLB game.
  12. Ohio St - UNC Asheville is on at 7 tonight on one o fthe ESPNs. I'll be tuning in to see 7'8" Kenny George play there.
  13. QUOTE(heirdog @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) I know we have a log jam of sorts for reserve players but some how, some way I hope Bourgeioise makes the team. He reminds me of Ozuna in '05. He seems to make good things happen and he is hungry (not in the Jenks/Uribe sense but to prove himself). We could have such a versatile bench with Ozuna, Ramirez and Bourgeioise. Quentin and Richar need to get healthy and AAA is probably their March 31 destination. I hope Ramirez beats out Uribe at 2nd so we can keep Anderson as the back-up/ platoon OF and give him one more shot. Bourgeois wont make the team. He is a Pablo clone with a little more power. I believe Pablo is the in the final year of his contract thoguh, so assuming JB doesnt fall on his face this year he'll probably assume that role in 2009.
  14. Big Bang Theory wasnt as good as I hoped...HIMYM was funny though
  15. It's from a writer on the white sox website. It is not from Ozzie or KW therefore it doesnt yet mean anything.
  16. Did the classic line of "This is a special leprachaun flute, its been passed down from thousands of years ago by my great-great-grandfather who's Irish" strike anyone else as hilarious, especially when seeing the source. "Where the gold at? I want the gold!"
  17. UNC, Kansas, UCLA, Stanford Kansas over UNC UCLA over Stanford Kansas over UCLA i know about Kansas' track record, but i just love the way they play and they have so many future NBA players i just cant force myself to pick against them despite my better judgement
  18. The West does appear to be a bit weak, but UCLA had better not sleep on UCONN if they see them. The Huskies match up real well with them. Love vs Thabeet/Adrien inside will be no easy task for him Stanley Robinson vs. Mbah a Moute is a great battle of athletes Price/Austrie/Dyson vs Collison/Shipp at guard is also a matchup of quick, smart, athletic and talented guards UCLA has an advantage in talent and consistency but IMO UCONN will be UCLA's biggest roadblock to the Final 4, especially if they decide to play for all 40 minutes. (As much as i want to see the Huskies go, i just cant see them winning, but it would be a great game IMO) I could also see Drake giving UCLA a shot if they saw them too. But the bottom half of Arizona, Duke, Xavier wont pose any serious to threat to the Bruins in my opinion
  19. 11-St Joes over 6-Oklahoma 11-K-State over 6-USC 10-Davidson over 7-Gonzaga (is this even an upset?) 10-St Marys over 7-Miami 10-Arizona over 7-WVU and my big upset pick is Arizona over Duke in the second round
  20. That Clemson-UNC game was a good one...Clemson's press had UNC all out of sorts in the first half but in the 2nd the press stopped working and UNC was able to jump out to a lead and hold it
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) Absolutely putrid reffing in the Marquette/Pitt game -- f***ing terrible. f*** you, Tim Higgins. I'm very happy with Marquette's showing in the tourney and proud as hell tonight. I'm fairly certain they've earned themselves a five seed (at worst a six). The reffing in the WVU-UCONN game was awful the other night too...it was a foul to breathe on someone in the second half...the reffing in general in this tournament has left a lot to be desired
  22. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) The grand daddy of confrence tourney's! If my Heels can get to the finals they should have a good chance at a #1 seed, but winning it will lock up the #1 east seed with a trip through the sweet 16 staying completly within the tarheel state. (Greensborough & Charlotte I think) Not to hijack the thread, but for sheer entertainment/fun year in and year out i'd say the Big East tournament is where its at - no stage like Fri/Sat night at the Garden on ESPN in basketball's mecca(NYC)...but just my opinion.
  23. What a shame that it ends like that. Great game. Devan Downey showing he is a big time player, and gotta give props to Chris Lofton for coming up CLUTCH despite a poor game until then. South Carolina is all coming back next year, they could make some noise in the SEC possibly
