  1. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) I have seen almost every Illinois game since Lon Krueger took over, but it'll be difficult for me to watch whenever Jamar Smith is on the floor next season. IMO, that is a bit ridiculous. You're basically saying kids dont deserve a second chance. Before playing at UCONN, Caron Butler spent a few weeks in jail in high school. Now, he has turned himself into an all-star caliber nba player, a model citizen, and has helped his family out immeasureably in the years since. People make mistakes. I'm sure other people have been granted scholarships for non mainstream athletics or academics who had made a mistake in their past too.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) Oh cmon, it was a freakin chest bump. You guys are looking way too far into that. How often do you see opposing players give each other chest bumps during pre-game intros? Never. If anything its a handshake. And by Gordon's reaction he clearly was not expecting it. And, for a chest bump, that was a pretty forceful one.
  3. i'm a UCONN fan so i feel i'm impartial here, but i agree that the pre-game chest bump was out of line. Any statement whatsoever directed at his family was also out of line. As for the chants? It happens in sports. Deal with it. Did he commit to Illinois? Yes. Did he then spurn them to go elsewhere? Yes. Is he a liar? No, but he put himself in a position to be faced with taunts of "Liar" and "Traitor". That is the fans right to chant, to try and get under the skin of the opposing players. The "f*ck you gordon" was out of line however, regardless of his family being there or not (they knew what theyd be walking into, they're adults, they still made the decision). The throwing of cups/beads/ice whatever also crossed a major line (technically that's battery). The crowd did its job in getting in his head with the "clean" taunts, and that kind of stuff happens everywhere (remember Carolinas hatred for JJ Reddick?). They were out of line at times, but it began as simply a hostile environment for the visitor, in which nothing is wrong with that. Frazier made a stupid decision (i wouldnt have been against a technical for it), the fans who threw stuff are imbiciles, and the coach for not shaking his hand is an immature poor example setter for his team who should be getting killed in tghe media for that. However, for the majority of the arena who simply chanted "Liar" and "Traitor"? Thats not a big deal. It happens in rivalries, albeit more often in pro sports. Suck it up and move on. For Indiana fans it should be a done deal now.
  4. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) Nah, it won't be fun because both Gordon and Sampson will be gone. And just out of curiousity, do you think you can EVER forgive? I mean, he served his two weeks in jail, and has 100 hours of community service AND has two years probation. And that's for a first-timer. He's paying his debt to society. Let it go. I dont follow big ten basketball all that closely (big east guy). Who is this recruit you are referring to?
  5. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) You think more, or less? To be honest, I don't see how Owens is NOT the starting CF. If it's anyone else, we are in huge trouble defensively. Unless it's someone like Anderson, which I highly doubt. Barring any signigicant injuries to Swisher/Quentin/Dye/PK/Thome (a PK/Thome injury would probably push Swish to 1B or Dye to DH) i bet Owens gets around 250 AB, and i'm fine with that. Unlike most, i for some reason feel Owens has a shot to be an adequate CF. if he does get those 250 AB, i bet he steals 25-35 bases, at a minimum.
  6. I doubt Owens gets 390AB, but if he did 35 SB is probably a little low. If he had that many ABs, i could seriously see him swiping near 50 bases.
  7. QUOTE(IamPabloOzuna @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 02:01 AM) look at some other teams and you will find that 117 is actually quite average...if not below average examples: Detroit - 110 NYY - 110 AZ, STL - 147 (NL I know but colorado only used 99, washington 98) MIN - 144 KC - 139 TB - 128 BAL - 123 TOR - 129 OAK - 140 TEX - 137 144??? How do you use 144 lineups in one year? They only used a lineup they had previously used 18 times? Thats ridiculous.
  8. I'm 5'11 and graduated college at 240 two summers ago. I got real motivated (plus i had no real job for 5 months so i had the time) and by September was down to 208. Then i got the job i have now. I'm at a desk for the majority of my day and by the time i get home i'm just tired and dont feel like doing anything besides "hanging out". Also, i get up at 5:45 in the morning so i dont really think i can get up earlier to do stuff (i suck in the mornings). Needless to say im back to about 236 right now and would love to get down to the 215 range by June and 200 range by September (vacations planned). I just joined a gym last week with a friend so since im paying for it hopefully ill be motivated enough to actually go. Anyways, at the moment i'm more interested in cardio workouts to lose the fat rather than weight lifting to put on muscle (one step at a time, heh). What would be a good cardio workout that wouldnt become boring/repetitive over time. I live in upstate new york so until april the weather wont really be conducive to doing things outside, so for now its gonna be mostly indoors stuff. Oh, and i rarely eat breakfast in the morning (usually dont have time), is that really a big deal when trying to lose weight? The concept of eating more to lose weight just seems strange.
  9. This isnt Euro soccer, but for those interested Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana and Cameroon have advanced to the semis in the 2008 African Cup of Nations. In the meantime, Samuel Eto'o (CMR) has broken the career goals record for the tournament and Malian forward Kanoute has been named African footballer of the year, beating out Eto'o and Didier Drogba for the honor
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) I think they planned originally on this being a 2-hour season premiere, but because of the writer's strike (and the fact that they only have 8 episodes now), decided to make it just one episode, which hurt it as a "season premier." The first half of it was crap in my opinion. Second half was better, but for a really huge show (and a long layoff), this was not a good season premier. I agree that originally they had probably planned a 2 hour premiere. It wasnt that great of a premiere but tghats because this was more of a "set-up" episode that was needed to lead into the season, IMO.
  11. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) This was in Keith Law's chat on ESPN in reference to his list of top 100 prospects. haha ouch
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Exactly, he was my favorite player, basically because we share the same first name and initials. Needless to say it was a very sad day on February 8th, 2000 when he passed away. I think this year might be his best shot to get in. I remember i was coming home from basketball practice as a junior in high school when i heard this and i almost cried. It was almost a surreal feeling. Anyways, after doing a bit of research i found the following about DT: -9 pro bowls (all straight and to open his career, andi wonder if that has ever been matched? - the to start a career part) -11th all time in sacks; only 14 sacks away from top 5 so that is likely where he would have ended up. -3 career safeties (only 2 people with more, many with 3 however) -NFL single game record of 7 sacks; also had a game with 6 - one of only 2 people to have 6 - 3 Time All-Pro -1989 Defensive RoY -1990's NFL All-Decade Team -45 career forced fumbles (NFL Record) -19 opponents FR (record is 29) (fun side fact: warren moon has record of fumbles recovered with 56) Those look like HoF credentials to me
  13. Derrick Thomas needs to get in. Hopefully it is this year. I dont know exactly where bu he ranks pretty high up there in career sacks. he also made a bunch of pro bowls and holds a ton of KC records (plus NFL single game record). He was one of, if not the most, feared linebacker in the league for a good 6-7 seasons. He's one of my favorite players of all time but bias aside, i think he deserves to be in the HoF. If you were asked to name some of the best defensive players of the 90s how would his name not enter your mind?
  14. FWIW - Oakland Top 10 prospects Gio #2 DLS #4 Cunningham #9 Carter #10 Best FB - DLS Best Slider -DLS Best CB - Gio 2011 Lineup: Gio #1 starter, DLS #3
  15. UCONN with four straight impressive victories Marquette @ Cincy @ Indiana (w.o. Dyson/Wiggins) Lousiville (w.o. Dyson/Wiggins) With a win over Pitt we'll definitely be back in the top 25 finally.
  16. Best: 2005 WS Game 4 2004 UCONN-Duke Final Four game 97 WS Edgar Renterias walk-off hit Worst: FSU-Miami Wide Right II game...for some reason this one really crushed me. It was the second time they lost by missing a kick and it killed their titel hopes. I can still remember watching it go wide and feeling sick to my stomach 2006 UCONN loss to George Mason was tough too...especially since i was still in college and i was the only UCONN fan (upstate ny most ppl were Syracuse fans). We were drinking and i got so much s*** when they lost that game KC-Indy playoff game a few years back. KC was 13-3 and it was in arrowhead. Always disappointing in the playoffs they loved up to it again. KC never had to punt (only 1 turnover) yet still lost the game. That defense made me want to vomit. What a waste of a supremely talented offense/special teams.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) No amount of defense can make up for having his kind of horrible bat. When there were no viable free agents and no one on the farm who could be counted on to be a SS and not much on the trade market, signing a guy who can be counted on (aka you know you're gonna get .220/18/65 with upper echelon defense) for one year at 4.5M is not that bad. I hate it when people ask that question. What else we were going to do? We didnt have OCab yet and there werent any rumors he was coming here. Would you rather have paid Eckstein 8M for 3 years? Or would you rather we moved Richar to SS? Ozuna? Sign Vizquel? Again, we had very few options at the time and we made the safe move. It may not have been a great idea to sign him, but given the other options, there could have been many far worse decisions made.
  18. I have a question about your service time field. If i'm reading it right, you say Richar, Fields and Owens have .085, .136 and .147 service time, respectively. Now, the way i interpret those numbers would be they have 8.5%, 13.6% and 14.7% of a season under their belt. Over the course of a season that means 14, 22 and 23 games. Am i just being retarded? Or do those calculations not make sense? I'm just wondering. I think this is a great spreadsheet, not trying to critique, just trying to find out information.
  19. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 04:25 PM) More trash TV. Why can't they ever come up with anything decent? Why does it have to be crappy reality shows or game shows? Not all reality shows recently have been crappy. A lot mainstream ones have but the discovery channel has had some good ones. Last Man Standing, at least for me, was extremely interesting and they have a similar one now that i cant remember the name of thats pretty good. They also have Man vs Wild and Survivorman which are kinda fun to watch. The problem is that the main channels (Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS) market to the masses, and as a result they come up with what they feel will get the attention of the most people. On a side note, i thought Moment of Truth was gonna be interesting and i was planning on watching it but i ended up out of town. Yes the concept was kind of trashy, but it seemed entertaining...sounds like it ended up being kind of blah.
  20. when i wash my hands after going to the bathroom i turn the faucet off with a washcloth that way i dont have to grip and turn off the knob that i previously had just touched with my pre-washed hand. i also use a paper towel/my shirt to open a bathroom door in a public place. i'm not really a germaphobe at all, these are just 2 isoldated things that for whatever reason i have to do
  21. Keep Utley as the guy you have to keep and Ramirez as your choice, that way it only costs you a 5th rounder. Pitching i'd take Wang
  22. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 09:25 AM) Have you ever been so wasted that you took permanent marker into the shower of your dorm and drew a giant mural of marge simpson having sex with bart simpson? My roommate and I also played wet bandits and flooded the other side of the dorm area. What assholes! haha well some girls in my hall once flooded the hall (on accident) and then decided to use it as a slip and slide...needless to say the ra's were not pleased but my suite and the other guys down the hall didnt seem to mind
  23. but have you ever thrown up all over the bathroom floor while taking a s*** only to pass out in the meantime and have your RA find you like that on the crapper hours later?
  24. QUOTE(Balance @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) God, I'm such a fifth-grader..... Did anyone else chuckle at the headline, "ozzie looking at colon" and have the mental picture of Ozzie bending over in an uncomfortable manner? looks like i wasnt alone haha
