any word on what Edgar Davids is doing? Last i heard he was mulling a contract with Dallas but that was a couple months ago. -
I bet Buerhle pushes 250 wins. However, although I do doubt this, 300 is not out of the realm of possibility. Lets say he finished the year at 108 (he's at 105 right now right?). Now, over the next 4 years we wont be this bad every year i'd like to think. So, say he averages 13 wins, which is conservative, thats 52 wins to put him at 160 by the time he is 32. Now he will probably be in "prime years" 4-5 more years. Say he averages 13-15 those seasons as well. That means 52-60 wins over 4 years or 65-73 over 5. That means by the time he is 37 its possible he could have 230 wins. That puts him 70 short, which seems like a lot, but if he could hang around a la Jaime Moyer and pitch till hes 42 averaging 12 wins a year that would put him right on the doorstep. Now, is this probable? Of course not. He will need to play on some good teams, play a long time (which means he'll have to want to play a long time) and will have to avoid the injury bug. The thing about MB that favors him though is his delivery is smooth, he loves the game, has no injury history and has solid mechanics and gets by without prototypical "great stuff" already. If MB can have a Jomie Moyer like end of his career (38-43), he stands a legit shot at 300 in my opinion

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Look at what that good use of a first round pick got us. Ya because he was horrible before his injuries and our scouts should have known he'd get injured. Its one thing to blame scouts for bad picks that flame out, but not for players who show actual promis but get taken down by unforseen injuries (i.e Rauch, Honel, Wing, Stumm). Blaming scouts for Honel being a "bad first round pick" is just dumb

QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) I think that this would preclude us from dealing with the Braves now, but definitely sets the market very high for top line talent. Only if the player is coveted. If Anaheim wasnt interested Atlanta wouldnt have given up as much as they did. and Elvis Andrus is one of the other prospects, so Texas is really getting a nice package here

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Let me add that Warcraft 2 and Duke Nukem 3D are probably the two best PC games ever made. Diablo 2 vehemently disagrees

I too have noticed when Pods plays, this team is better. I just cant convince myself of that. And his BA is one of the higher ones on the team, but ya i know, small sample size

Look for books/writings by Gene Carneyon this subject. He is one of, if not the most, prominent authority on this subject. I did a bunch of research for a senior thesis two years ago in college on this subject and how it tied into the changing times in the U.S. from the 1910's into the 1920's. I used a bunch of stuff written by him and also went to the HoF itself to use its archives to do research in their library (which is very cool, by the way). Although not an innocent figure, i'm not so sure how involved Jackson was in this. There are a lot of holes in many arguments from a bunch of untrustwhrothy sources (including Arnold Rothstein). I cant get into it much now w/o my paper and being at work, but if interested in this subject you definitely have to look at works by Gene Carney.

Wow, that was 05-esque

oh there were definitely some classics: N64 - Goldeneye SNES - Griffey Baseball, Zelda, Mario Kart PS1 - Jet Moto Sega - Goldenaxe but here are a couple no one has mentioned: Marble Madness and Excite Bike for NES! Maybe its just me but those games were great at the time.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) Some people may have had a little hope for Honel, but his last couple of outings out of the pen have pretty much comfirmed he's done as a prospect. Just another fantastic selection from Duane Shaffer. You can't blame him for that one. Honel showed prolonged flashes of dominance in the minors before injuries derailed his career. Shame too, because he looked like he'd be up in Chicago for a while just a few years back

I just heard coming into work this morning on Mike and Mike that Buster Olney has reported that 2 big name first basemen have been creeping into rumors the past couple days. They said that one was Texeira, unsurprisingly, and the other they mentioned as Konerko and said that they Angels might be interested. They then went on to say they wouldnt understand why we would re-sign MB if we were then just going to trade off every other piece that would make sense to keep from the 05 team. Anywyas, just throwing this out there. There wasnt a specific rumor associated with this, just mostly speculation and saying that his name has popped up lately.

Fields = a cheaper Crede with no back problems
ChiSox_Sonix replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) You do not trade Crede when his value has bottomed out you pray for a complete recovery and a decent first half and then you deal him when he actually has value again I agree. We should hang on to Crede and plan on him being the Opening Day 2008 starter if he is healthy. Assuming 08 will be a rebuilkding year and we wont compete, best case scenario would be Crede can put up a decent line with no signs of back problems and by late May we try and ship him out. That way he can build his trade value up and teams would have him for 4 months and ~100 games so we could probably pry a decent package away from some team hoping to compete -

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) I have to imagine there'll be a position switch for him sometime. How many major league 2B are left-handed? Pretty much none. Here is what i found on another board concerning this question: If you include all of baseball history, the answer is Hick Carpenter, who played from 1059 of his 1118 career games at 3B despite the handicap of being left handed. It doesn't seem to have hurt him too badly, either; his .853 FP was actually a hair better than the league norm of .849 (!) and his RF of 3.25 was only a bit lower than the league average of 3.30. Carpenter is the only "real" left handed 3B in MLB history. There have been 50 other lefties to play at least one game at 3B, but their career total is only 597 games, so Carpenter played almost twice as many games as a TL 3B as the rest of the lefties in MLB history combined. Of the 51 left handed throwers to play 3B in MLB history, just 9 debuted after the AL was founded: Hal Chase (1 G at 3B), Milo Netzel (6 G), Duffy Lewis (1), George Sisler (2), Charlie Grimm (1), Mike Squires (14), Terry Francona (1), Don Mattingly (3), and Mario Valdez (1). That's just 29 games, and many of those weren't starts, so it's not enough to form a valid opinion about their abilities. You can guess, though, that their managers didn't see any of these guys as everyday solutions at third. I've since learned that there have been six southpaws who played either second, short or third since Mattingly. 1999,CIN,3B,1,1.0,0,0,0,Hal Morris 1997,LAN,2B,1,1.0,0,0,0,Todd Hollandsworth 1997,CHA,3B,1,1.0,0,0,0,Mario Valdez 1995,SEA,SS,1,2.0,0,1,0,Warren Newson 1987,KCA,2B,1,1.0,0,0,0,Thad Bosley 1987,CAL,SS,1,0.0,0,0,0,Mark Ryal _______________________________________ Here, based on the MacMillan Electronic Baseball Encyclopedia, is a list of every left-handed third baseman in major league history. NBA Ref Fixes Games for the Mob

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) I've thought game 6 of LA/Sacto back in, when was it, 01, was fixed since I watched it. Game in Sacto, but the Kings wind up with 3x as many fouls called on them as the Lakers, thus managing to guarantee a game 7. Thats what i was referring to, not Portland but Sacto i forgot who. I just remember seeing replays of Shaq getting "fouled" on plays where he isnt touched and the defender standing straight up. The commentators eventually starting making guarded statements about that as well. Was it really fixed or not right? I dunno, i joked about it but was only half serious, but now you dont know. -

Got both at the same time. 360 really doesn't excite me. In fact, if someone robbed me of it, I wouldn't even realize it until maybe years later. If I got PS3 today, what's one game I would need to get? (Besides Resistance and Ninja Gaiden, I've heard those are both awesome). Also, I'd need to buy the HDTV AV cables right? Lair. Although not out yet, it comes out August 14th i think. Anyways, suppsoedly its getting good reviews. ive seen graphics and a video and they do look impressive, even more so if you have hd as i believe it runs in full 1080pi if you have it. Although it is being made by Factor 5 and they have been known to disappoint so we'll see. I believe MGSIV is ps3 exclusive for 08 and Assassin's Creed comes out in November for PS3 (360 release date yet to be announced). I have a PS3 and i love it. a Couple friends of mine have Wii and i like playing it there but i would never buy one as i dont see a lot of single player value. In addition, if you are an MMORPG fan the PS3 signed an exclusive deal to get something like 4 or 5 games in the next few years that will be developed as ps3 exclusives.

Not saying Jerry owens is an answer to an OF spot for next year, but he's quietly hitting .320 this month. Also, Sweeney has picked it up some and is hitting near .300 in Charlotte now. Also, concerning Sweeney, I think people fail to realize sometimes that he is still only 22. His power numbers still arent great and probably never will be, but considering he's been rushed at almost every level so far, we can not assume that he will nto develop power. I'm still not too worried abotu Sweeney not realizing his potential. To me, he still looks like he can become a quality major leaguer. With that said, he should be up here playing in RF every day as soon as we trade away Jermaine Dye.
