QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 12:42 AM) I love Dunn's swing when he is on. I was advocating the White Sox basically just cut him back in early May. But I gotta admit, he's been a joy to watch the past month or so. He's been playing as a borderline all-star as of late

Zapata and other DSL or pre-DSL prospects

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) Sanchez is 20 in AAA. Going into Opening Day this year, he was THE YOUNGEST player in AAA. That isn't some small piece of information, that is huge. He's not a full season into AAA yet, at that age. He's still the best MI prospect in the system outside of Tim Anderson, and I still feel he's got a good shot at being a starter eventually. It just isn't going to be this year, and probably not next. Exactly. I feel like people are completely ignoring this fact. So what if he spends the next TWO years in AAA before he is ready for the major leagues? He'll be just 22/23. He may never develop into anything but he is so young at AAA that some of the recent sentiment about him is really misguided. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) Lawrie could possibly be another option....even though a lot of people around baseball think he's an ass. Brett Lawrie is a 23 year old 3B in another organization, a recent first round pick and the #40 rated prospect in baseball just two years ago and who is still in the pre-arb years of his contract. He has never played an inning at 1B in either the majors or minors. Why was he brought up again?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 07:40 AM) Just noticed that tonight's US game is at 11pm eastern. Why?? I know it's in Portland, but can't you play the game at 6pm local time, or at least 6:30? Cuba-Costa Rica is the first game at the same site. Also remember, this tournament is in the United States but is not being run by the USSF. It is run by CONCACAF. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 09:01 AM) Panama beat Mexico in the first match of the Gold Cup. Is Mexico not playing their "A" team or is this just a huge upset? It's not Mexico's 'A' team. It's also not Panama's full 'A' team (no Blas Perez for example). And it's also Panama. It's also the first time Panama has ever beaten Mexico. It's still a significant upset. Mexico is really in a rut right now. I can't believe Chepo hasn't been canned yet -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 6, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) Actually that may have been a bad move for him. We've seen iit a few times where an American player goes to a bigger named club and just rides the pine. He'll turn 24 this season so there's plenty of time for him to climb up the ranks. I still look back and laugh at the American media, namely ESPN, going crazy when Oneywu signed with AC Milan. That was career suicide and while he's had injuries, he's never been able to recover from that horrible decision. I don't mean a huge club, but a club that could compete for Europe. There were rumors of interest from Fiorentina, Schalke, Fulham and Shakhtar for example. I don't think Sunderland is a bad move and it would be better for him to play consistently over the next year leading up to the World Cup, but I guess I was just hoping for a little better of a club than one whose goal would be to finish in the top half of the table -

It was only a friendly and it was only Guatemala, but Stuart Holden showed some great signs last night. Made a few bad plays but had some phenomenal balls and plays. Going to be very interested how he fares in the next couple of weeks. If he can regain form, that is a major bonus for the USMNT. Also, Jozy is apparently going to Sunderland. Kind of split on the move. On the one hand, it's the EPL and he is almost assuredly going to play a ton as the main striker up top, on the other hand, I was kind of hoping for a more marquee club. We'll see how he fares. Hopefully Sunderland keep Sessegnon on board as he will provide good service for Jozy -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) I'm not saying it was the only reason but most teams do take it into serious consideration to start the arbitration clock later which saves them money. Reasons to bring him up before Super 2 date . 1. Was having a good year. 2. Sox catchers struggling. Reasons not to bring him up before Super 2 1.Sox save money by starting arbitration clock later. 2. Give Flowers more time to improve. 3. Since it's Phegley 1st really good season in the minors give him more time to sustain that success. 4. Wait to see if the Sox could turn around their losing ways. 5 Sox record for what was considered to be a very favorable part of their schedule from 6/14 to end of June , 4-12. The point at which everyone offically knew the Sox had no chance to compete, making call up much more likely. If you honestly believe that anyone was worried about Josh Phegley obtaining Super 2 status and that was the reason he was not called up until a few days ago, well, there's not really much to discuss. Completely differing opinions.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 12:17 AM) Yes. Once his Super 2 arbitration status passed which was I believe in mid June. I'm just surprised no one on the board took note of that date passing. There should've been a count down. That was never a consideration in him and his call-up

What's the most recent update on Crain?
ChiSox_Sonix replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 04:39 PM) At the height of his scoreless appearances streak (he's been scored on twice since then, although the first one was attributable to shoddy defense by Alexei)...and now there's no way he's going to be named to the AL All-Star team. And? No team would have deemed him less valuable due to allowing an unearned run in an inning with 2 errors and because he allowed 1 earned run a week later for the first time since April. Also, his value to other teams is completely irrelevant to whether or not he makes the AS team. -
Konerko/Crain to DL - Purcey/Morel called up
ChiSox_Sonix replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 04:33 PM) Of course, we have no idea what's wrong with Crain and thus can't say if he will be healthy at the end of his 15 days. They're saying it's a "better safe than sorry" situation. If they can be taken at their word, it is only a precaution and not a big deal. If he can come back on the 19th and make 3 or 4 appearances with no issues, we should still be able to get something for him. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) If that's true, we've managed to blow (even if it's terrible luck) 80-85% of what could have gotten in return this season for Floyd, Peavy and Crain if they were all healthy. "If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all." Honestly, where do you come up with these random numbers? -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) And the hits just keep on coming.... Some of this will be blamed on Ventura for overusing Crain, some on Hahn for not trading him at his peak value a week or so ago. LOL. Ok. He did lose any value one week ago to today before the injury. And if he wasn't hurt he would not have lost any more value at the end of July. -
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 11:07 PM) I hope Danks shows us this year that we will be seeing the old John Danks next year. I really don't doubt that "old" John Danks will be back. Great to see the velo up and change was something else today. Beckham and Gillaspie were great. Dunn did his thing. Great considering all three are more likely to be back for next year. I hope Danks goes on a tear the next few weeks and some team gets foolish and nervous and offers Hahn a nice package of prospects for him.

White Sox sign Micker Zapata for $1.6 million
ChiSox_Sonix replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 07:26 AM) I know it's a small thing, but English being Micker's first language should really help his transition to the states. Being able to communicate clearly and easily with the majority of the coaching staff, players, and everyday people will make his life so much easier and aid in his development. Well, it sounds like the kid grew up in the USVI and only moved to DR three years ago to avoid the draft. If that's the case, without knowing anything at all about the family, he should have much less problems acclimating. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 01:24 AM) A rare 0-7 night, this time for Trayce. He has drastic home/road splits this year. On the plus side, no strikeouts, which have always been the main concern with him.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) I dont care if we have the worst system out there. A 16 year old doesn't belong in the top 25. He'll be 17 in two months. No one would blink an eye about a 17 year old high school senior getting picked in the first couple rounds of the draft and being included on a list. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 11:37 AM) Different market - the money is an indicator, but it isn't an absolute match-up. These are 16 year-olds, they are even more lottery tickets than the amateur draft guys. That said, I think a case can be made for Zapata to crack the Sox T25. Look at the 15-25 in our system. It's mixed with fringy guys, players that have low ceilings but a good chance of reaching them, potential future relievers, etc...There's not a doubt in my mind that the upside for this kid alone, despite him being young and having the odds against him, that he is deserving of a spot in our top 25. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 05:50 PM) How is but more surprised that Wells was getting ready to throw and not just delivering a message to the bullpen that not showing that it was his idea to pitch, that he volunteered rather than being asked. Maybe begged would be pushing it, but with how our team has sucked raw eggs, it's nice to think that someone wants to contribute and help out. Not sure that how translates to him asking. Seems pretty clear that all it meant was Thigpen being unaware that a position player was being sent to warm up. You're making quite a leap in your assumptions with really nothing there to back it up. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) Yeah, I've been around here for all the David Cooks and CJ Retherfords. If it's not Wilkins, it's Dan Black, or Earley, or some random guy who puts up pretty good stats. Using statistical analysis is ONE tool, but not the be all, end all, when discussing minor league prospects and their projectability at the major league level. If nobody in the organization believes he'll develop that power, it doesn't matter what statistic you throw out there. Why do you think they gave up so quickly on Ryan Sweeney, for example? And yes, I think .270 is a pretty good number to use as a barometer for Trayce Thompson's batting average. Obviously, .268 vs. .270 doesn't matter, or 14 vs. 15, but if you really believe Ravelo's going to hit more than 5 homers this year, more power to you. Do you want to make a bet? It's one out of about 10 other indicators you could look at, however. 9th Round pick out of college UDFA out of college 5th Round out of college 14th Round out of college 29th Round out of college Ravelo: 6th Round out of High School One of these things is not like the other. Not sure why you're bringing in players that are completely irrelevant to Ravelo into this conversation. Ravelo was a high(ish) draft pick out of high school and missed half a season last year to deal with an unspecified personal/family issue. He is not comparable at all to anyone you just brought up. Ravelo is young and has time to develop some power. He's absolutely a prospect in this system and he's absolutely worth keeping an eye on. He does need to develop more power over time if he is to succeed at the position they have him at currently, but whether he does or not remains to be seen. Writing him off because of the failures of players that have nothing to do with him is absurd.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) I'll say it again. My favorite all-time player is Roberto Clemente...and Puig's the closest I've seen in my lifetime, although he's quite a bit bigger and will hit more homers than triples. Same position. Nobody has Clemente's arm, but he's got a gun. In my lifetime, Sammy Sosa, in his first 2-3 years in the big leagues, before the steroids when he was THE PANTHER, and Vladimir Guerrero (never had the Clemente speed/dynamic athleticism) are the two most reminiscent. Eric Davis, a little bit, when he first came up with Reds in 1984-85. Puig is the one that comes closest. What?
