  1. As much as I'd like to get Rios' contract off the books, I hope Hahn doesn't let him go for nothing. Something about him trying to obtain an exorbitant package for him in return a week ago only to be followed up with him essentially "giving up" and letting him go for nothing, makes me worry about how he may be perceived by other GMs in the future and if it could negatively affect him in trying to make deals in the future.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:53 AM) I'd think that does make it easier to move him around, yes. Plus he understands English, which some DSL players probably don't. But I think his skill level and play will still be what dictates where he starts next year, mostly. Right. I just meant that potential hurdles regarding residency and the like won't have to ironed out as they are with most kids from Latin America. So if they want to have him spend the winter in Arizona at their development camp they can just go ahead and do it.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) This year he is in development camp. Next spring, he could be in DSL, or state-side, depending on where they think he is development-wise. There is no definite answer, it depends on the player. And with Zapata being an American citizen, it could also change things as well
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) Hawkins with 2 hits, including a homer. Seems to be making much better contact the last few games. Two straight games without a strikeout. Can't remember the last time he did that
  5. NFL Cracking Down On Celebrations Again Obviously because football is too fun. "As first noted by Pro Football Talk, reports out of multiple camps have officials warning players that they intend to more strictly enforce the unsportsmanlike conduct penalties already on the books. That includes: sack dances; home run swing; incredible hulk; spiking the ball; spinning the ball; throwing or shoving the ball; pointing; pointing the ball; verbal taunting; military salute; standing over an opponent (prolonged and with provocation); or dancing."
  6. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 07:20 PM) I'd like to see him go back to Everton because they liked him so much there and he was so good with them. By that time, I'm not 100% sure they will get the same player they got then though. Everton's quite solid in the front six right now though. Fellaini, Oviedo, Pienaar, Deulofeu, Jelavic, Koné, Anichebe...Playing time won't be super easy for him there.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 08:36 AM) Semien being on the 40 man isn't going to hurt anything, and is Wilkins rule 5 eligible? I doubt he's a great candidate, but they may want to add him anyways. Wilkins was drafted in 2010 so he is eligible this year.
  8. Is this the first time without a white sox winner thread when they actually won?
  9. Olney tweeted this morning that Dunn would be the perfect fit for Texas. No rumor, just his thought. It'd be great if Dunn passed through waivers and we could get something for him while also shedding his contract.
  10. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 04:58 PM) Interesting. I remember in the Futures game he tweeted he thought Rienzo ultimately ended up in the pen but his slider/cutter was a serious out pitch. From futurues game: keithlaw ‏@keithlaw Filthy cutter from Rienzo. Might end up a reliever but that's a big league pitch. #tudobem Julu 30th: James Fox ‏@JamesFox917 @keithlaw Why do yourself and others think Rienzo ends up in bullpen? No 3rd pitch? Just curious as to your thought process keithlaw‏@keithlaw @JamesFox917 I don't think that's a certainty. I'd at least give him a chance to start as he has 3 pitches. To me it seems he's not sure where he ends up rather than him suggesting his future is in the pen. He genuinely seems to feel he has a big league arm in some capacity though.
  11. In an ironic twist, given what Dempsey just did, rumors are circulating that Landon Donovan is going to Europe after his contract with LA is up in December. Apparently has received interest from multiple clubs in multiple countries
  12. I also don't like the Dempsey move at all, especially being in a World Cup year, but hopefully he can secure a loan back to the EPL (Everton or Sunderland perhaps?) after the MLS season for a little while
  13. So trying to get a nice, colored stone in an unusual cut is kind of a pain in the ass
  14. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 08:37 AM) I still don't see why you guys have Hawkins rated so high. Not even close to top 10 IMO. Fast forward to one year from now.....If he has similar numbers then, will you still rank him in Top Ten? Not me. Not sure how that can be a serious statement
  15. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) Article on Bleacher Report grading all the deadline trades was just posted, and the final grades for the Peavy trade is in according to them.... Boston Red Sox: A Detroit Tigers: A+ Chicago White Sox: C
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) I don't disagree with this. So far, I'd give Hahn a C+. Rios, Ramirez, De Aza, Reed, and Dunn need to go today. People need to stop saying Reed needs to go anywhere. He makes peanuts. He only goes if we're blown away with an offer.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) What happened to the Micah Johnson Bandwagon? Haven't seen his name mentioned as much recently... Lions in Puig jerseys ate him
  18. Still one game to go, but Semien's month of July (26 games) .372/.524/.745/1.269 8 HR, 9 2B, 1 3B 29 BB, 12 SO 6 SB, 1 CS 20 RBI, 28 R Did anyone is MiLB have a better month of July than he did?
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) The good news with a possible Rios trade is we should be able to sign a free agent outfielder to replace him. I think Choo would fill a ton of needs for us and would be a huge upgrade over Rios. We should have the money, I'm just not sure if Hahn would want to commit a long-term contract to him. Why would we sign Choo when Grady Sizemore is available?
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) https://twitter.com/Sawchik_Trib/status/362228827042217985 Figures the Sox would be interested in an Indiana University player. Laumann probably watched him play a million times. I'd be interested in something like Dickerson, Garcia and an A-ball pitcher
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) I'm sure 29 other teams covet Sale. 28 of those can't pay for him. The other has him. Yeah, not to be a dick, but this is a silly thread. Of course they covet Sale. Every team in the majors covets Sale. If the Orioles were serious, it would take Machado to get him. Otherwise, they'd need to offer Bundy, Gausman, Schoop, Rodriguez and Marin for me even to consider it. None of it will happen.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 11:08 PM) He can speak for himself. But just got back from five days without internet camping in the Serengheti. Seeing a pride of lions on the hunt, even more amazing than puig's season so far. Still not as amazing as seeing a pride of Puigs on the hunt though
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) Good plan if he wants a chance at playing in the World Cup. Surprisingly, Iceland actually still has a shot in their group. Overall, the Icelandic national team has gotten a lot better and they have some really good young talent right now. And surprisingly enough, he might actually have less competition for playing time with the US at the moment. Good move for him in the long term though for sure if his goal is to play in a WC
  24. Aaron Berry tore his ACL in Jets practice and is also gone for the year. 4 pretty good players gone in the first week of camp
  25. Aron Johannsson is filing a one time switch to play for the United States
