QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 09:37 AM) Overall, Martin may kill off characters but he brings in a lot of new, interesting ones.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 09:10 AM) The Revolution season finale was... interesting. I actually enjoyed it. I understand the show isn't winning any awards and some of the actors are bad, but I think it's a fun show. I'll watch it next season.

In addition to being suspended, I hope Braun gets sued by the guy who's career he basically f***ed over to get out of getting caught a couple years ago

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) LOTS of time left to fall in love with other characters. My personal favorite hasnt even really started his/her journey yet.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) Except Santos was locked up cheap and long term, and Reed isn't. So maybe only a little more. Reed is under our control for the next 3-4 years. And considering years 5 and 6 of Santos' deal were in the $8-9M per year range, I don't think that makes much of a difference, if any.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) The only difference to me is that because of age we should get a bit more. Lot more.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 10:01 AM) I'd say it might depend on what the org thinks of Daniel Webb. They've got a kid sitting at AA throwing triple digits. If they felt willing to be aggressive with him, they might well move Reed this year to give him a shot. For precedent on this setup, see: Sergio Santos being traded. Well, we traded Santos when he was 28. Reed is 4 years younger. So I don't think we can exactly compare the two.
-
To be clear, I'm not against trading Reed. Relievers are more easily replaced than any other position. But given how young he is and how cheap he currently is, I'd demand a ransom for him from a team in contention right now. And I don't think any team will be willing to meet that price. If Baltimore comes to us in July and needs a closer and is willing to give up someone like Schoop then you pull the trigger. Otherwise you keep him around as part of the core of your rebuilding team.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) It's not highly likely. But to say no one will, that's hard to believe, either. It's hard for me to believe that a team in contention at the deadline would be willing to overpay enough for a young closer with zero playoff experience that the White Sox would deem him and his contract expendable. Other than maybe the Orioles, I can't think of a team that might be in contention and also be in need of an upgrade at closer.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:15 PM) Gotta bring up Phegley by D-Day. Send Flowers down. We have to get some legitimate hitting prospects, major league ready players, and trading value will be a lot higher in June-July than in off season (Peavy, Reed). If Hahn does not do something by end of July, I'll be surprised and disappointed. There is absolutely no reason to trade Addison Reed right now unless some team way overpays for him (and no one will). That's silly.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 12:36 AM) He's got crazy power potential. Reminds me a lot of Chris Young actually, I just hope he can hit for better average. Honestly, I'd be fine with .250. With his power potential being 30+ HR and from what scouts say about his defense (it being very good), I'd be fine with him at that average provided he kept his strikeouts at 25% or lower

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 11:48 AM) When does DFA become a real option? I'd seriously consider it at the end of this month at this point

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:40 AM) LOL, i bet he is unstoppable. I remember back in the 90s I read a story about Cory Snyder joining a 12 inch team when he retired, and hit something like 78 homeruns in a 15-20 game schedule. There is a tournament team in our park called the Shockers, and they have an "A" team that shows up for playoffs, and it is full of ex college players. It just isnt fair playing against those guys. My team went 9-1 in the season and lost to their "B" team by 10 runs in the season, and we played their "A" team in the playoffs and lost 40-2, called in the 2nd inning. And after they got 20 runs they stopped taking extra bases. shellACKED I actually asked how he was and he said he was flawless at SS and "he just hits lasers off the wall every time". I guess there is a 2 HR per game limit in the league (300 foot fences) -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) You do know he had a 1/21 streak in the last week, don't you? You do know he had an OPS north of .900 along with 6 HRs and 15 RBI in the time frame I specified, don't you?

I was all over Dunn a few weeks ago and even advocated flat out releasing him he was so bad. But the timing of this thread is pretty silly considering he's actually been a very beneficial player to this club over the past couple weeks.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2013 -> 02:09 AM) Service time would be a pretty surprising reason for holding Phegley back, since he wasn't close to being considered the catcher of the future until these first 2 months of 2013... I don't think anyone in the organization was projecting him as a potential starting catcher at the major league level based on his health and what we'd seen so far. That said, Flowers seems to be really struggling with the daily grind, and that's hard to understand at his age and with an entire off-season to prepare for the starting role, knowing AJ wasn't coming back. It's also disappointing he's been suffering some aches and pains...like back spasms in the last week...without really playing at anywhere near the level of innings/pitches caught AJ averaged in his sleep even in his mid 30's. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 28, 2013 -> 07:21 AM) Yes they are they do not want to make him a super 2 arbitration status. Yeah, I can pretty much guarantee they aren't worried about service time and starting Phegley's arb clock

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 27, 2013 -> 10:40 PM) I really wish headlines like this would stop: Griner dunks twice but Mercury fall to Sky. Really? That is your lead? It's not like the first time that's ever happened. I have zero interest in the WNBA, but headlines like that only do damage to the sport in many people's perspective IMO.

Slow pitch softball thread

Random but kind of cool story. A buddy of mine from HS who used to play softball with us moved to North Carolina last year. Saw him at a wedding on Saturday and was talking about softball and he said he's currently playing in a league down there and Ray Durham is on one of the other teams. Pretty neat. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) Hawkins now resuming baseball activities, not sure of return date. BHam now has an OF of Walker, Mitchell, Thompson and Earley. Someone is going to Charlotte soon I'd bet, and my guess is its Thompson. I hope not. He's been playing much better in May and has gotten his K% down to a very respectable 21-22% but I'd like to see him continue the progress and try to expand on the power numbers for another couple months before pushing him forward. He's still just 22 so no need to rush him. I'd rather them send Earley to try and see whether he might have any sort of big league future (in any capacity) or not.

And now ESPN is looking to hire lots of people. Presumably, these will be young and cheap replacements for the older, higher salaried personnel they recently laid off http://deadspin.com/espn-is-now-hiring-you...dium=socialflow

Deadspin's been covering the ESPN layoffs. Sounds like ESPN is taking the directive from Disney, who themselves just had their stock recently reach an all time high.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 22, 2013 -> 09:03 PM) Does Adderall not have the ability to enhance a player's performance? Debatable.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 22, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) If a baseball team had the PED issues Seattle does, everyone would jump all over them as cheaters. But in the NFL, people only talk about replacing players during suspensions, they don't criticize the organization. "PED's" in the NFL also often means something like Adderall.
