QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) Nev is the poster child for "high risk, high reward" High bust rate. He never could get the control figured out. He also gave up on throwing the pitch that made him a high pick after his injury

QUOTE (MEANS @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:00 PM) yeah I guess so, I've never read the books. It just needed to be related to the others much much more or just call it something different. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed it, just similar to Prometheus where the tie in, (to a previous franchise) just doesn't seem to pay off. I'm guessing the tie-in drew more people to see it though. And that means more dollars

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 12:40 PM) Kind of a surprise, this late in the season. I figured they'd keep Trayce in A+ for their playoffs. Then again, maybe this is done in part so that Trayce is AA-qualified for a slot in the AFL (I think there are limits as to how many players below AA can be in the AFL). Hawkins was seemingly doing pretty well in Bristol, but it is hard to use stats in that league with such a small sample size to evaluate anything. I assume this means an OF will go from Kanny to W-S as well... probably (hopefully) my AAP Mark Haddow. Good call. I'm sure he'll be back in W-S once their playoffs start

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 11:46 AM) He's a good defender, but he's had a couple shaky moments, so while he's capable of outstanding defense, I think solid is a good way to describe how he's performed. Wise isn't bad in the field. Probably not at Danks' level, but definitely good enough, plus he's used to hitting and playing off the bench. Which I agree with and partly why I'm totally fine with the decision. However, I also think it's way too early to be writing him off as some are as a terrible hitter. He'll be back in a few weeks and I would not be at all surprised if he is our 4th OF for the next few years.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) Dick Allen speaking a lot of truth in this thread. So many on this board let the tide take them way up and way down. The Danks HR took people way up. Everything else he is should be taking you back down soon enough, whenever he gets back. Thanks much for the HR, but it was one at-bat. Personnel decisions aren't based on small sample sizes, and his defense and athleticism are not exceptional they're just solid. But 49 at bats is totally large enough! And his defense is far better than simply solid

QUOTE (MEANS @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:38 AM) I enjoyed it but it leaves you wondering what the whole point of making it was. It really doesn't need to live in the Bourne franchise. Aren't there like 9 or 10 of those Bourne books that drive the movie franchise though?

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Last night Wilfred was a tad odd to me but otherwise, you are correct As opposed to the episodes where Wilfred isn't odd? I've never gotten that show. I have some friends who love it but it's just too weird for me

Jozy netted a brace over the weekend in AZ's league opener against Ajax. And they were nice goals too, not cheap. It'll be interesting to see if he improves upon his good season last year if he starts to attract interest from larger clubs again. Still only 22. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 12, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) Our league bought a machine that does a density check on our bats. If it doesn't pass, you can't use your bat. If it passes, they put a special silver sticker over the top of the bat that you cannot remove. If it is removed they can consider the bat shaved and it can be confiscated. If it is confiscated, it gets sent to the state softball headquarters, if it is found to be altered you could face banning from the league. It all comes down to injury liability in our league. Cheater bats increase the chance of injury in their eyes. The league I'm in outlaws bats that are not ASA approved or that were banned following their initial approvals. Still, occasionally you see a team try and bring one out. Generally we are able to catch this and tell and as someone who sometimes pitches, I can tell you I fully support not allowing the illegal bats. The balls just fly off them so fast. Reacting in time on the mouund just becomes more difficult. -
I'm completely fine with this. At this point in their careers, Wise and Danks are extremely similar players. I feel Danks has a good chance to be in the Chicago as a backup OF for the next few years but at the moment he is mostly up riding the bench and coming in to play defense for a couple innings. Wise is a veteran who has experience in that role. I'm sure Danks will be back up in 3 weeks and I'd prefer he get regular at bats over that time period

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) I see that the Sox sent 25 year old IF'er Tyler Kuhn to the DBacks for money. What's the prospect take on that deal? No real loss

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 12:48 PM) I'm just wondering when Bocanegra is going to get out of Rangers. He's suited up in both of their cup games against low division sides. I heard Klinsman is trying to get him into one of the Bundesliga sides. Frankfurt possibly? -

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 11:48 AM) Celtic drew Helsingborgs, of Sweden, for the next Champions League qualifier. Two of Henrik Larsson's clubs to do battle - hopefully we can emerge victorious. That's gonna be a good matchup. For American fans, Alejandro Bedoya is close to a transfer to HIF so there's that element to it as well -

We were the 3rd seed and lost in the semis last night by 1. Still alive as it is double elim. Had the tying and winning runs on base and our batter swung at a terrible pitch on 2-0 and popped up to right. Ugh. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) Just finishing up summer leagues now. Went undefeated in a co-ed 16in league for the title, lost in the first round in another and 12 in is starting playoffs next week. I had an unassisted triple play a couple of weeks ago at SS, f***ing awesome. Right after I released my throw to 1st I just turned and ran to the bench without looking. How was it unassisted if you threw to first? -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) i doubt the texans get past the first round. Johnson, Foster and Schaub all have to stay healthy(which hasnt been an easy feat), as does JJ Watt who has already hurt his elbow. I actually don't think Foster is as crucial as the other two. Ben Tate is arguably just as good if not better

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) But does that mean we should fear them and expect a loss to them? We're a pretty good team too, we were even before this offseason. We were a good team with Earl Bennett and Knox as our #1 receivers. Well, I'm not a Bears fan, but i'm kind of bearish (no pun intended) on them as well. I see that game as a toss-up

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) What's so great about the Panthers? Are they like the Nets of the NFL this year? The team thats sucked forever and they make a few good moves and suddenly everyone thinks they'll beast? They're still the Panthers. We'll beat the Packers at home, and we'll win one of Cowboys or Panthers. There's your 11 wins. People are expecting Newton to develop and improve, they have a very solid running game (outside of Newton), they have a decent defense and are getting Jon Beason back from missing basically all of 2011. I think Carolina will be a pretty good team this year actually.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 12:02 PM) Wow. Good for Thompson. The K's suck, but he's up there leading the league in Homers and RBI's. I'm not big on prospect lists, but it will be interesting to see if he cracks some Top 100's this offseason. He's been down in the 20-25% the past few weeks. Unsurprisingly, that is about when his average started to soar
-
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) Great to see that Trayce has reached .250 and Walker got his 50th SB of the season. Thompson has really cut down on the K's over the past month or so. That's the most encouraging sign of all to me. If he can keep them at 25%, with his power, he's going to be a legit prospect
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) But then right after that there was a post saying he was reassigned. Let me see if I can find it. Edit: Right here. I'm guessing that was a mistake. He's been in Charlotte for the last 4 games
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) Morel's back in Charlotte? Wasn't he just reassigned? I think they activated from the DL a few days ago and used an option to send him to the minors
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 10:59 PM) I think if the Patriots and Packers have shown us anything, it's that you don't need good defense if you have great offense. Yes, but the key their is great offense
