QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 05:03 PM) How are the Spanish champ (Real Madrid), the English champ (Man City), the German champ (Borussia Dortmund) and the Dutch champ (Ajax) in the same group. That's criminal. UEFA needs to sort this out better. Yeah that was a joke that Dortmund was in Pot 4. And how Arsenal was placed into Pot 1 ahead of Man City was also absurd -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) Just wondering why he wasn't moved up the ladder in 2012. Who?

Slumpbuster Gamethread: Orioles vs White Sox

Let's just hope Lew ******* Ford isn't playing tonight -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) Wow x2. Looks like they want Thompson and Hawkins to get some post-season action. And Haddow to AA. Lots of multi-level jumps lately. Yeah, it looks like they want them playing more games and those teams are in the playoffs. Totally fine with it. Doesn't hurt getting the playoff experience or the additional at bats. If they don't play exceedingly well, they'll just start back in AA/A- next year. I like the moves.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 11:58 PM) Andy Wilkins keeps the Barons from being no-hit. And CoHawk (??) hit his 4th HR. He is just tearing up Kanny. Please no

Saw Hit and Run this weekend and actually found it pretty funny and enjoyable

QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) De Aza had A total of 164 at-bats with the Marlins. In 2007, he had 144 at-bats, hit .229 with a .574 OPS. In 2009, he had 20 at-bats, had 5 hits... 4 singles and a double. In those two partial seasons combined he had 9 doubles, 2 triples, and no home runs. The Marlins waived him to open up a spot on their 40-man roster. He had approx. 1000 at-bats in the Marlins minor league system. He had approx. 800 in ours. So is De Aza "all Marlins"? I don't think so. He developed in the Marlins system. All the White Sox did was sign him and let him play in AAA longer than he needed to. It's a great signing by Kenny and he deserves tons of credit but our organization did pretty much nothing to "develop" him. He was already there, he just had to recover from his injury. I can't justify ever grouping him in with people we are calling "products of our system".

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) Let me make myself clear. I dont believe the team should lose a roster spot. But, somehow a team should be punished if a situation like this occurs and the team benefits from the play of a juiced player. how this punishment is levied, I do not know Fine the team an equivalent amount to what the player loses due to his suspension?

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) Marlins got him from Rule 5 from the Dodgers. Is he a Dodgers prospect? He was a waiver claim, I'm putting him with the Quintanas and Septimos of the world. Since he had to produce in our MiLB to get a shot to be a major leaguer, I consider him our own find. If he was truly a "prospect" to the Marlins he wouldn't have been given away. Quintana absolutely. I think the difference with De Aza is that he was already a refined player - he won the Marlins starting gig a few seasons earlier. The reason he was available was due to his terrible injury and durability concerns. Also, if Ozzie didn't have such a hard on for Wise there's a good chance he would have been up here sooner. De Aza is all Marlins, not us.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 02:41 AM) That is just a copout answer... sometimes you either have it or dont. He turned 20 less than 2 months ago. It's hardly inconceivable that he'll add some power. Even if he doesn't, that doesn't mean he can't be productive. I read an article yesterday comparing him to Luis Castillo. His minor league SB numbers don't suggest he has that speed but those are not always indicative of that. I know I'd take a Castillo-like player for several years

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 11:01 PM) Thompson hitting so well in AA, great to see...hopefully he'll run out of season before they make an adjustment on him. And then he will also have the AFL to showcase his talents, probably with Mitchell, too. 4 straight games without a strikeout (17 PA) and no strikeouts in 5 of his last 6 games (1 K in 23 PA). Small sample size, but I can't recall the last time he had a string like that. With that being his biggest weakness, it's definitely an encouraging sign. Through 36 AA PA, 7 K and 6 BB so far

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) It was Scott Pioli, I knew that someone from NE had gone to KC and sold them on Cassel. Also, Cassel started all of 2008, so 16 games in the NFL trumps anything done in college. If Flynn started all last season, this wouldnt even be a discussion. You're right. Several members from the NE organization moved on to KC.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) Others are looking at what differently than me? Are you saying Beckham is good offensively without having the balls to say it? Nice job calling me a prick, too. You mean like the 5 or 6 people who responded to the dWAR remark with rationale and examples and the response you gave them was something like "Yeah, i read them but Beckham still sucks"? Yeah, maybe that for one. Also, the hyperbolic Gordon Beckham is the worst player in the league non-sense is ridiculous. NSS in particular has commented on how he has looked in recent weeks and made much more in depth posts about it. Don't think I've ever said he's good offensively but he's better than the black hole you are painting him as. And I didn't call you one, I called how you were acting one. Nice job reading though.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) Oh, just shut up. Beckham sucks. Yes, I'm exaggerating a bit...but not a lot. Stop defending his s***ty offensive play. Nice. I'm sorry that others are looking at things differently than you. Continuing whining and acting like a prick though, it's what everyone wants to hear. Good job!
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) Ok, for 5 at bats he will be out 4 or 5 times. With 6, he will be out 5 or 6. Most players don't keep scaling down like that...he does. Not to mention, he does it almost every night. So the first bolded would mean his batting average would be between .000 and .200 The second bolded would mean his batting average would be between .000 and .167 QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) .230 .283 .361 Actually, they do confirm it. He hits safely less just 23% of the time. What's worse, he gets on base only 28% of the time. He's one of the worst hitters in baseball. Period. But wait, you proved it isn't. Thanks.

8/22 Yankees at White Sox

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) Also, reasons like tonight are why I hate blackouts. A far superior media outlet (in terms of video quality, graphics, etc) is nationally broadcasting our game, and we get the choppiness of WCIU. Also, I like getting the perspective of the Sox from the broadcasters other than Hawkeroo sometimes. I think the Sox have been on Sunday night baseball once this year? Well just be glad you don't have to watch the game on YES -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) I was watching at home and thought it was a routine fly. Then when Swish started doing the twist, i was hoping he would blow the play. Then it went out. Pretty much exactly my reaction

Except that's not true. And your precious stats confirm that.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) So let me get this straight...the accepted defensive statistical calculations are ignorable because you and a few others on Soxtalk say so? Only if by "you and a few others on Soxtalk" equates to "everyone who understands and uses defensive metrics"
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) Isn't Beckham's defensive WAR actually negative right now? Just checked...he has a -0.3 DWAR. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/_/id/3.../gordon-beckham Defensive metric can vary greatly with small sample sizes (less than a year). I know from what I've seen from him this year he has played the position excellently

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:37 AM) When will you go on record? You prospect guys slay me, take a stand. Take a stand on what? He's 21 years old. How many players have definitively defined their careers by then? He's not Mike Trout. There, that's my stand on it. It must be enjoyable screaming negatives constantly from your little mountain top.
-
Nice to see Beckham with another good game. I did not think Youk's HR was gonna go. Off the bat I was glad cuz it was gonna get a run in. Then Swish starting turning and dancing out there and I thought maybe he'd misplay it, then the next thing you know it just carried out. Another great win, and with Sale going tonight we need to get this sweep!
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) So you are willing to go on record and say they got it right with Thompson? At this point? No, that would be as stupid as going on record and saying they didn't. Making a judgement on a 21 year old player in AA who came into the organization out of high school is silly, whatever your opinion on him is.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 09:59 PM) Hammerhead is right in not being excited about Thompson in my opinion because of the incredibly poor track record that organization in developing hitters. Thompson has shown nothing in his development to make me believe he's the guy they got right. You must not be paying attention to him then.
-
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) That's not a counter-argument, son. Dayan Viciedo will never put up a good enough OBP to justify having a starting gig on a major league roster. Because a 23 year old already on pace for 20+HR and 75+ RBI in his first full major league season has zero room for growth. Nice insight champ
