  1. Pearl Jam is doing a "fanclub only" show at The Vic. My neighbor, who is the biggest PJ freak I have ever known, is beside himself with glee. It's sho hard to show excitement about stuff like that.

QUOTE(SnB @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 11:27 PM) I actually really enjoyed Chuck and Larry. I'm a huge fan of kevin james though. He wasn't in it nearly as much as Sandler, and that crippled the flick greatly. Someday people will realize that James can carry a major film all by himself. He was what worked in that film, and he is what made Hitch somewhat less that irritating.
  3. Price Is Right is now destined for the same future as Family Feud. Replacement host after replacement host. Attempting to tweak it time after time to try and find a way to recapture its success. But all along, it was all because of one guy that made it what it was. Ray Combs was a decent replacement for Dawson, but the show was just never the same.
  4. Nah, I just feel a little sorry for you. They're NASCAR fans.
  5. Huh...been talking to my neighbors again, eh?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) Agreed, and I find that to be a shame. I really like Sandler and James (and Biel's um, hot). It's a shame that they couldn't pull something together. I keep trying to convince myself that it'd be worth seeing, but I can't do it. No, there is pretty much nothing to recommend about this. Even Biel's underwear shot and "boob feel-up" isn't all that great. There is a drop the soap joke, that while predictable and an old joke, is actually a decent scene. The look on James face makes it worthwhile, as does the slow motion. The inclusion of Ving Rhames also made it less painful, as he is like James in that he makes everything a little bit better. David Spade is bad in his cameo. Rob Schneider is decent in his cameo. Ackroyd is still slumming it though.

Went to the drive-in and saw two flicks: I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry : I can't stand Adam Sandler, but I do like Kevin James a lot. Funny guy who can pretty much make anything work. While he is on screen, he makes this film tolerable at best. When he is off-screen (which is much of the time), it's a painful, painful, painful movie. I laughed maybe twice. But they were more of a sudden outburst of a laugh, followed quickly by a chuckle. The first laugh was so loud more out of shock than actual humor. I think the follow-up chuckle was more of confusion than anything else. But the movie was just bad...just real bad. Normally my wife and her sisters can find some enjoyment in these types of movies, but not this time. None of us liked it. Transformers: Never bought the toys, never watched the old show. Thought the idea was kind of silly when I was younger. Found it odd that it was being turned into a movie, found it even more odd that people were upset about "liberties" being taken with the original "story". I had no interest in seeing it until friends started telling me how good it was, and my son REALLY wanted to see it. I loved it. Absolutely the movie of the summer (until I finally see Ratatoullie). That Shia guy does really carry the movie until the Autobots show up, but once they get there, the whole thing becomes REALLY cool. Optimus is a really cool character, and the action (though tough to see at times) is really fun. The whole movie was just a perfect night at the drive-in, and I can't wait to see it on a good screen!
  8. Is there any chance that he is playing in the US because he knows that along with his making a TON of money his playing here will also do nothing but make the sport he plays (and possibly loves very much) just that much more popular in the US? I have no interest in the sport, but chances are I will watch a game just to see what the hub-bub is all about.
  9. That must be one hell of a nice guy, offering up such fine tunes.
  10. I've read the Bloodninja one somewhere before. Probably one of my favorite pieces of writing of any sort. When I read that the first time and got to the second "wizard hat" I lost it. But actually, I could swear there was more to it and Blood did that quite a few times. Either way, flat out hysterical!
  11. I would LOVE to be a "Stay At Home Dad". My wife and I have tried to figure out a way to do so, half-heartedly. But if given the chance, I would be gone so fast from this place.
  12. I'm waiting for the Cliff Note versions.
  13. QUOTE(mreye @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) Now, I don't know if I'd go that far. Eh, give him his time in the sun. He doesn't know my real name and I will probably never meet him. Only people that will have to deal with the "I'm cool, Kid Gleason says so" are the people he hangs with. Plus, who's really going to believe him when he tells them that Kid Gleason says so. Kids been dead for YEARS. They'll all think he's "wacky".
  14. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 10:21 AM) WELCOME TIME-TRAVELER!!!
  15. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) That happened on my flight from O'Hare to SFO. There was a young baby on the plane (at most, maybe a year old) and he was upset at being in the air. So, he was crying a lot to the point where he was almost hyperventilating and tiring himself out. But, it was loud. This middle aged guy sitting next to me actually told the parents "You need to shut your kid the f*** up." It was really uncalled for because most of the plane didn't give a s***/was watching the movie fine/nobody was really bothered." So, I turned to the guy and said "We already have one baby complaining on the flight. We don't need another one. I'm sure if he could tell us exactly what it is he's upset at, he would." The guy got all pissy but really shut the f*** up. The kid can't really control his screaming because he lacked the language to say "Feed me!", "Change me!" etc. That middle aged douchebag could control his idiocy. You're cool. You do understand that, right? If not, make a note of it right now.
  16. I used to like John Lovitz. Now I love John Lovitz.
  17. Welcome back Soxtalk! You were seriously missed!
  18. But the Wii will be played by gamers and non-gamers. I'm not a "gamer", but I love my Wii system. I know my in-laws have fun with it also. I think it will survive due to it being more than a "gaming system". It will be the thing that when you have family over they will want to play, unlike an XBox and such. Once upon a time board games were HUGE family entertainment. The Wii is the board game for the new age.
  19. And this is what will make the Wii the single greatest game system to ever exist: http://www.atari.com/godzilla/ I am sooooooo happy I bought a Wii!!!
  20. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 12:08 PM) Full album downloads available and online play mean I'll buy Rock Band and probably a guitar. Hopefully one of my friends is willing to blow $80 on a plastic drum set. Or for the same money you could buy a REAL guitar.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) But, as a parent I am sure you know, you often cannot stop a small child from screaming, much as you want to. And WTF would you do if your kid was saying "bye bye plane"? I mean really, are you going to slap him for talking in a fashion that might be annoying? If my kid is screaming and such, then I take him/her to the bathroom and try to get the kid to calm down. That is if I am on a plane. Other places I take the kid to the lobby or someplace where they will calm down. I once spent an entire movie running length in the lobby with my (at the time about 19 month old) son because he wouldn't sit still and be quiet for the movie. Luckily it was Polar Express and I had 0 interest in seeing that thing. On a plane you might need to be a little more creative. But in this case, if all the kid was saying was "bye bye plane" an in a normal speaking voice...then the lady completely overreacted.
  22. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) Customers are assholes as much as customer service people. There's way too much "customer is always right" and "my kids aren't like that" bulls*** around. If any of you ever worked customer service, you'd agree with me. People will try anything to get "paid". If you really believe there is too much "customer is always right" going on in this world, then you either own a business or never step out of the house anymore. From as much as I can tell the entire business world has suddenly taken a "f*** the customer" state of mind. I know of few places that actually put the customer first. I agree with the "my kid can do no wrong" state of mind. Too many people like that for sure. But at the same time other people spoken to on the plane back the lady and kid, not the waitress. I'm not going to go by how a 19 month old is acting on TV first thing in the morning. Plus, I like how the article says the kid "flung the shuttle". From what I saw the kid tried to grab it, but it rolled away from him as he leaned into it.
  23. That's pretty much exactly what I said when I saw the picture.
